Pyro goes off inside a jam packed O'Connell Center in Gainsville, Florida in the form of a bird.......it looks like.....a PHOENIX! What the hell does this mean? Matt Striker and NWA South Beach Owner Howard Schilling welcome everyone to the first day of Rising from the Ashes. Before the commentary team can run down the card Jimmy Jacobs of TOXIC comes down with a belt bag draped over his shoulder.
Jacobs: You know it's amazing what you find just laying around the streets of a cesspool like Gainsville. *Jacobs opens the bag* You see management has been ignoring me for FAR too long, so I'm doing something about it. TOXIC is taking over the NWA, and in order for that to happen we need to have a little gold around our waists. Therefore I am declaring MYSELF NWA South Beach's first ever Gulf Coast Champion!
*NO YOU DON'T!* The South Beach GM JBL comes down to the ring looking very flustered.
JBL: No wait here you spiky haired little freak; in case you haven't noticed, this is MY show and I decide if a new title will be given away or not, and as of right now you are NOT South Beach's Gulf Coast champion. You will have to EARN this belt. Starting tonight we are holding a tournament for this title AND a tournament to decide the number one contenders to the South Beach Tag Team Championship. Also tonight we will have a gauntlet match to determine who will face NWA South Beach Women's Champion Jessicka Havok tomorrow night. Finally, since the board of directors decided to pull our match from the super show, that match will be the main event TOMORROW NIGHT! Now get out of my ring you little undead idiot, your match won't take place until later.
Match Number 1: TJ Perkins vs. "The Intellectual Savior of the Unwashed Masses" Damien Sandow. (1st round match in the South Beach GC title tournament)
Perkins comes down first as Striker and Schilling replay what was supposed to be the first match in South Beach for both participants and what followed. Perkins gets in the ring and "Gangam Style" starts playing. The crowd starts joining in as Howard shakes his head in disgust at the announce table.
*ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?* Damien Sandow comes down to the ring as Howard stands and applauds.
Sandow: This has to be the most egregious display of offensive gyration that my eyes have ever witnessed. I came here to wrestle not listen to a Korean who once wrote song lyrics proclaiming that he would kill Americans. While you all listen to your Gangam Styles that will rot your brain, I will instead listen to classical styles by great composers like Johan Sebastian Bach, Ludwig Van Beethoven and Amadeus Mozart! Even though nothing would please me more than to dispose of you Mr. Perkins, until you prove that you are worthy of facing me I will NOT grace you with my presence. *Waggles eyebrow* YOU'RE WELCOME!
Perkins turns his back on Sandow to ask the referee whether he will count Sandow out or whether someone else will be coming out. The momentary lapse in concentration from Perkins is all Sandow needs to sweep into the ring, wrap Perkins up in the Chains of Ignorance and hit the Path to Enlightenment! Sandow makes the referee call for the bell, covers and wins this as the crowd boos.
Winner: Damien Sandow
Post match Sandow does a cartwheel in the center of the ring and bows with a flourish.
Backstage Joseph Park has an unexpected guest, JAY LETHAL
Park: Well good evening Jason it is amazing to see you here in Gainsville *crowd pop*. If I may ask, why are you here?
Jay: Thanks Joe, and by the way; the name is Jay not Jason. Loosen up a bit buddy. Now as for why I am here. Christopher Daniels.....even though it begins with you I find it hard to actually start. It was TWO L-O-N-G months ago that you attacked me because a skeleton from your closet came out to play and it frightened you. You went after me thinking that I was the masked man that attacked you at Year of the Snake, the man that haunts your very soul to such a disturbing degree that you have quite possibly lost whatever shred of sanity you had left. I'm coming for you Chris; but before I do, I'm going to prove that I deserve a shot at your title. I'm entering the Gulf Coast title tournament tonight. I WILL win it tomorrow....and then *laughs softly* oh and then, I will take what means the most to you: Your NWA South Beach Championship. Now THAT...is gospel.
Match Number 2: The No Remorse Corps (Davey Richards and Rocky Romero) vs International Airborne (PAC and Amazing Red) (Tag title Number 1 contender tournament)
This match was really fast paced as all four men have a proven track record of being able to "GO" in the ring. Romero would hit a low blow on Red while the ref was occupied with Davey and PAC on the outside followed by a Black Tiger Bomb. The NRC will move on to the next round.
Winners: The No Remorse Corps
Match Number 3: Jay Lethal vs Luke Gallows (GC Title Quarterfinal)
Gallows started off the match by trying to toy with the younger Lethal who would have none of it. This was a good match with Gallows able to come close to matching Lethal's speed. Gallows would come close to advancing after scoring with a huge choke slam, but only got a near fall. After surprising the bigger man by escaping the Gallow's Pole, Lethal would hit a Lethal Injection to pick up the victory and advance.
Winner: Jay Lethal
Post match Jay would look straight at the camera and say "I'm coming for you Daniels" before miming a gun to his head. Striker and Schilling wonder if Lethal's taunt had anything to do with him being Suicide.
Before the next match NWA South Beach Women's champion Jessicka Havok would come down to join Striker and Schilling on commentary with the title gleaming around her waist.
AJ Lee vs. Mercedes Martinez vs. Velvet Sky vs. Sassy Stephanie vs. Allysin Kay (Five woman gauntlet match to determine the #1 contender to the Women's title)
AJ Lee and Sassy Stephanie would start off and while Stephanie would come close to winning on several occasions Lee would pick up what some would call an upset after hitting a shiranui.
Eliminated: Sassy Stephanie
Velvet Sky came out next and Lee came close to completing her second upset of the night, but it was not to be as Velvet would kick out of another shiranui and hit the In Yo' Face to eliminate AJ.
Eliminated: AJ Lee
Mercedes Martinez comes out next and the commentary team seem to act a little more interested with all three members convinced that Martinez would win. The two women put on an awesome display of chain wrestling but Mercedes ends up taking a slight advantage. Mercedes would signal for a Bull Run but Velvet would block and hit a Beauty-T to pick up the victory and eliminate Martinez!
Eliminated: Mercedes Martinez
Velvet looks exhausted after going to war with two very athletic competitors in AJ and Mercedes which is why Allysin Kay would almost sprint to the ring and mercilessly attack Sky as Havok voiced her delight from the announce table. Kay would try for a Cut-Throat but Velvet would find the strength to block and hit a Beauty Mark to win and become the number one contender!
Winner: Velvet Sky
The crowd starts chanting for Velvet as Havok leaves the announce table and gets in the ring. Velvet and Jessicka stand face to face in the middle of the ring and Havok raises the title up saying "You're going to have to kill me to get this tomorrow."
Backstage Jay Lethal walks up to Super Dragon who's preparing for his match against Frankie Kazarian and mentions that he knows Dragon doesn't have a partner for tonight's tag team match and offers to take Steen's place "for one, MAYBE two nights only". Dragon contemplates Lethal for a moment, nods, and heads to the ring for the next match.
Match Number 4: Super Dragon vs. Frankie Kazarian (GC Title Quarterfinal)
This was a rematch of sorts from almost a month ago and Dragon looked like he blamed Kaz for Steen's injury. This was a war plain and simple as both men laid everything on the line in this match. Dragon would miss with a Badunkadunk which allowed Kaz to hit Back to the Future for a near fall. After fifteen minutes of back and forth action Kaz wiffs on a clothesline which allows Dragon to put him in a torture rack.....PSYCHO DRIVER! Dragon with the cover, the three count, and the win to move on to the semi finals.
Winner: Super Dragon
After the match Dragon goes to shake Kaz's hand but is turned down and is instead spit at. Dragon looks incensed as Kaz walks away with his head down.
Match Number 5: Roderick Strong and Michael Elgin vs. Bully Ray and Devon (Tag Title Number 1 contender Tournament)
The Dudleys came into this match taking their competitors a bit too lightly and looked legitimately surprised that they couldn't pick up a quick victory. Late in the match Strong had Devon in the Stronghold when Davey Richards came out of the crowd and distracted the ref. Devon is tapping out when Rocky Romero slips into the ring behind Roderick and lays him out with a lead pipe! Elgin bull rushes Romero and both men spill out of the ring. Devon tags Bully in and they hit the 3D on Strong. A three count later and the Dudleys pick up a cheap victory.
Winner: The Dudleys
After the match Strong comes to and starts attacking Davey until security comes and breaks the two teams up. These two teams have been after each other for going on four months....will this feud ever definitively end?
Match Number 6: Jimmy Jacobs vs. Richie Steamboat (GC Title Quarterfinal)
Poor Richie Steamboat. Richie tried as hard has he could to mount offense against the reinvigorated Zombie Princess. Jacobs locked in End Time and this one was over in short order.
Winner: Jimmy Jacobs
Main Event: Super Dragon and Jay Lethal vs. Matt Sydal and James Storm (Tag Title Number 1 contender tournament)
Both Super Dragon and Jay Lethal were gassed from their earlier matches but still managed to put up a good fight against the more experienced team of Flying While Intoxicated. Eventually though, the earlier matches caught up with Dragon and Lethal, with a Last Call to Dragon followed by a Shooting Star Press providing the finish.
Winners: Flying While Intoxicated
After the match Sydal and Storm pick up Dragon and Lethal, shake hands and embrace as the crowd cheers. JBL's music hits and out comes the South Beach General Manager.
JBL: My my my. This ring smells like smoke because everyone in it has been put through fire tonight. How did you all like this show tonight? *Crowd cheers* Well the best part is is that tomorrow night things will be even better! Tomorrow night at the second night of Rising From the Ashes, we will have Damien Sandow vs. Jay Lethal and Super Dragon vs. Jimmy Jacobs in the semifinals of the Gulf Coast title tournament. The winners of those matches will face later that night to decide who will become the FIRST EVER Gulf Coast Champion! Also, in addition to Christopher Daniels vs. Kevin Steen in a Fight Without Honor for the South Beach Title and Jessicka Havok vs. Velvet Sky in a lumber jill match for the South Beach Women's Championship, my demons of destruction The Dudleys will face off with James Storm and Matt Sydal along with the No Remorse Corps in and elimination match to determine who will face the All Night Express later in the night for the South Beach Tag Team Titles. Now good night everybody!
The first day of From Ashes goes off the air with the crowd cheering. Join us tomorrow for Rising From the Ashes: Day 2. GOOD NIGHT EVERYBODY!
