NWA Hybrid Pro Presents: Retribution 13/10/2013
Hello and welcome to a massive iPPV event for Hybrid Pro, and indeed for the NWA as we present Retribution. In our main event The Prophecy and The Group face off in an elimination match, which could be the final meeting of the two factions if Christopher Daniels wins at Fall Brawl 1 week from tonight! That plus much more action on its way.
Sami Zayn makes his way out first to a loud ovation, as he awaits a match with Adam Pearce's mystery opponent. Adam Pearce then comes out onto the ramp.
Pearce: Sami, I thought long and hard about who I'd like to face you, and I found somebody. This man just like me is an old-school battler, a man who has worked his way up from humble beginnings to be considered one of the top stars in the NWA. That man is none other than BOBBY ROODE!
Bobby Roode comes out and heads for the ring. This is definitely going to be a big challenge for Zayn.
If Zayn Wins, He Faces Adam Pearce in a Steel Cage at Fall Brawl
Sami Zayn vs Bobby Roode w/Adam Pearce
We had very contrasting styles here as Roode's style was a lot more ground based than that of Zayn, who used aerial moves to counter both the fists and the mat skills of Roode. However Roode also had the added advantage of Adam Pearce in his corner, who constantly got involved to try and stop Zayn from earning a match with him at Fall Brawl. It backfired towards the end, as Pearce held Zayn for a running Forearm smash, but Zayn moved and Roode hat Pearce! Zayn then nailed his patented Springboard Tornado DDT to get 3 and earn his match against Pearce at Fall Brawl!
Winner- Sami Zayn
Zayn takes the microphone.
Zayn: There you go Adam Pearce, I beat your mystery opponent, now give me my match at Fall Brawl!
Pearce: OK Sami, you did it so you do indeed get your match. But it will come at a price. You see, I don't want to beat you in this final matchup between us Sami, I want to take something away that will permanently show why I am better than you could ever hope to be: your hair! What do you say Sami, are you still up to the challenge?
Zayn: You bet I am, but as we can all see your bald, so what do I get when I beat you inside of that cage?
Pearce: As much as it will pain me to say it, I will admit that your style of wrestling has a place in this business.
Zayn seems satisfied with that, after all the feud has been built around the fact that Pearce despises wrestler who wrestle as he refers to them like "gymnasts", so to admit such a thing would be very painful for Pearce. I can't wait to see this match at Fall Brawl.
Lenny Leonard is backstage with "The Caged Animal" Brian Cage
Leonard: Brian, as we all saw last week on Hybrid Pro TV, Matt Taven pinned you 1-2-3 in a tag team match. How can you now deny that your undefeated streak is over?
Cage: Because Lenny as you can clearly see if you watch that match, my tag team partner decided to up and leave, kicking me in the head on the way out. I am therefore still undefeated, because I have not taken a clean pinfall loss in Hybrid Pro. Tonight Taven, I'm not just going to defeat you, I'm going to hurt you for what you've done to my reputation as a breakout performer in the NWA.
Grudge Match
"The Caged Animal" Brian Cage vs Matt Taven
Cage has wanted a match with Matt Taven for weeks, ever since Taven forced him to leave The Pistols, and that tension has only grown after Taven forced Cage to work his way through the rest of The Pistols to get to him. Cage now has what he wants, and took the fight to Taven, nailing lots of his signature power moves and dominating the match. Yet he couldn't seem to find a means to get Taven down for the 3 count, he had a million tricks up his sleeve and had counters worked out for Cage's signature Weapon X. Cage finally got frustrated, as he brought a chair into the ring, looking to cave in Taven's skull with it. But he missed and Taven dropkicked the chair in Cage's face! Taven then grabbed Cage, TAVEN EFFECT! 1-2-3, Matt Taven has pinned Brian Cage 1-2-3 and now there's no denying that the undefeated streak of Brian Cage is over.
Winner- Matt Taven
Taven celebrates, but not for long as Cage grabs Taven and nails him with Weapon X. Cage isn't done, he picks up Taven again. WEAPON X ON THE CHAIR! Taven is out as the rest of The Pistols run in for the save, but a bit too late to save Taven. Taven has to be helped to the back by his team mates, some big damage has definitely been done to him here.
NWA Hybrid Pro TV Title Match
Austin Aries vs Bo Dallas
Before the show, Bo Dallas promised that if he won, he'd give us that duet with Brooke Hogan that we've been clamouring for, so please let Austin Aries win. Thankfully we didn't have too much risk of a Dallas win, Aries was in control for much of this, though Dallas showed glimpses of promise: if he could just get over himself he could become a really good wrestler. But this wasn't his night, Aries would wrap up another successful title defence with the Brainbuster.
Winner- Austin Aries
Dallas takes the mic post match, who let him have that?
Dallas: Thank you all my Bolievers, maybe we didn't win the match or the title, but you won my heart with all of your cheers. And you know what, that makes me so happy that I'm going to give you what you want: a duet with Brooke Hogan. Unfortunately Brooke couldn't be with us this evening, so here's the next best thing.
Dallas looks under the ring and produces a cardboard cut out of Brooke with a tape recorder sellotaped to it. I could make a joke about how the cut-out has more charisma than the real thing but that would be cliché.
Dallas: Now my Bolievers, get ready for the duet of a lifetime.
Dallas begins singing Don't Stop Bolieving, and the tape appears to just be Dallas singing in a higher pitched voice, then again that could just be what Brooke sounds like. Dear god, make it stop! He's going on and on, and the show is being held up, somebody get security out here now. Da Baldies make their way out followed by The Young Bucks for their No DQ Tag Team Title match.
NWA Hybrid Pro Tag Team Title No DQ Match
Da Baldies (Luke Gallows and Giant Bernard) vs The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson)
Bo Dallas is still singing in the middle of the ring, so Luke Gallows CANES THE HELL OUT OF HIM, YES YES YES! Bernard grabs the cut-out of Brooke and RIPS IT IN HALF! I officially love Da Baldies. Then the match properly began as Dallas left on a stretcher, and it was a war, Da Baldies delivered an expected vicious beating to The Young Bucks, but the Bucks showed something special in this match, they refused to die, and didn't just take beating but returned the favour. Indeed they came up with some very innovative uses for chairs and tables to counteract the all out assault by Gallows and Bernard with everything they could find. Bernard ended up taking a massive fall through a table on the floor following a Double Dropkick off the apron. Then following a vicious Con-Chair-To on Gallows, they nailed dual 450 Splashes and scored the pinfall victory, what win for The Young Bucks who are our new tag team champions!
Winners- NEW NWA Hybrid Pro Tag Team Champions, The Young Bucks
Post match The Young Bucks celebrate with the belts, but out come the rest of Da Baldies as they look to gang up on The Bucks. But instead of attacking, they all point their canes at them and leave, almost as a mark of respect for the new champs. I think Da Baldies know that they lost to the better team on the night, and its great to see this show of respect to end this rivalry on a high note. The Young Bucks are now 2 time Hybrid Pro Tag Team Champions!
NWA Hybrid Pro Heavyweight Title Match
Sami Callihan vs Kyle O'Reilly
This was the first real time that we've gotten to see Callihan actually wrestle rather than go for an all out fight, and he more than held his own with one of the finest young technicians in the sport in O'Reilly, these two had a fantastic matchup. O'Reilly definitely had the advantage from a wrestling standpoint, there's no denying that, but when the match broke down Callihan had the advantage when the fists were flying. This was wrestled largely clean however and went back and forth, with both men exchanging near falls. At one point O'Reilly even managed to lock in the Anklelock, coming close to making the champ tap out. Callihan made the ropes and managed to fight back, eventually locking in the Stretch Plum which O'Reilly couldn't escape from, he tapped and Callihan retains his title.
Winner- Sami Callihan
NWA North American Tag Team Title Match
The Pistols (Mike Bennett and Tommaso Ciampa) vs Da Baldies (Karl Anderson and Antonio Cesaro)
This was a genuinely intriguing match, a preview of what we will see 1 week from now at Fall Brawl when Da Baldies and The Pistols meet to decide who the better team truly is, the losing team having to split up forever! While we did get some wrestling here early on, things broke down pretty quickly into the fight that I think we all expected. Indeed Da Baldies didn't seem to care that much about potentially winning the North American Tag Team Titles and instead just wanted to inflict another beating on The Pistols, who were more than happy to do the same to Da Baldies. Eventually the referee lost control completely, and when Da Baldies started attacking The Pistols with their singapore canes, he had no choice but to call it a DQ win for The Pistols.
Winners- The Pistols by DQ
The fight continued post match, with the rest of The Pistols and Da Baldies running down to engage in an all out war around ringside. Officials ran down to break this thing up as best they could. 1 week from tonight at Fall Brawl, they won't be able to stop these two faction killing each other.
Before the big 2/3 falls match between Daniel Bryan and Paul London could start, "The Antichrist of Professional Wrestling" Kyle Matthews made his way to the ring and grabbed a mic.
Matthews: Ladies and gentlemen, maybe you never thought you'd see the day, but just 1 week before Fall Brawl "The Fallen Angel" has made the biggest decision he will make in his 100 million year old life. He has joined The Prophecy! Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome "The Fallen Angel".
A figure comes out dressed in Christopher Daniel's old robes circa 2003, walking with a zimmer frame, and I'm sure its obvious that this isn't Christopher Daniels. In fact I think we can all guess who it is. The figure slowly gets into the ring, and takes off his hood to reveal Paul London, complete with bald cap and gear that pretty much matches Daniels.
London: (talking really slowly) Well sonny boy, I finally saw the light in my old age and I decided that I should join the only cause worth fighting for, the death of the NWA. And tonight, with victory over Daniel Bryan, "The Angel Who Fell From Heaven" will be the new and oldest NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion in history at 1,245,346 years old.
Daniel Bryan made his way out, not looking pleased at the mocking of Christopher Daniels nor the mocking of this match by London.
Co-Main Event, NWA World Junior Heavyweight Title 2/3 Falls Match
Daniel Bryan vs "The Angel Who Fell From Heaven" Paul London w/Kyle Matthews
Our first fall was almost a lesson in stupidity by Paul London, who proceeded to wrestle exactly like Christopher Daniels if he wrestled in slow motion, mocking the challenger to Kyle Matthews 1 week from tonight any way he could. Against a normal opponent this would be pretty dumb, but against a man as talented as Daniel Bryan who was already pissed off this was the worst thing he could have done. Bryan pretty much destroyed London in this fall, making him tap to the Yes Lock in a little under 5 minutes.
At this point, any sane wrestler would probably get serious and do their best to get back into the match, but London is of course completely criminally insane, so did the opposite and wrestled even more like a lunatic. He did at least speed up, but did every move in a completely unorthodox manner and threw in some of Daniels' moves for no reason other than he could. Bryan on the other hand had no time for this, he wanted to get out of there as fast as he could and 2 straight falls would do that. That was until Kyle Matthews leapt onto the apron and distracted the referee. London grabbed a chair and smashed Bryan over the head with it! He then climbed up top with the chair. CHAIR ASSISTED LONDONS CALLING! London covers for the 3 count and somehow evens the score.
London grabs the belt and starts celebrating, until Matthews and the referee tell him he still has to win 1 more fall. Even Matthews is being tested by London's insanity at this point it seems. Christopher Daniels then run out to ringside and chases Matthews all the way backstage. This distracts London long enough for Bryan to nail a German Suplex, which he transitions into the Yes Lock! London holds on for as long as he can, but has no choice but to tap out, Bryan wins a very strange match and retains his title.
Winner- Daniel Bryan
Co-Main Event, 5 on 5 No DQ Elimination Match
The Prophecy ("The Antichrist of Professional Wrestling" Kyle Matthews, Jack Swagger, Dan Maff, "The Pope" D'Angelo Dinero and Azrieal) vs The Group (Christopher Daniels, Johnny Gargano, Samoa Joe, Kenny King and Rhett Titus)
Our co-main event begins backstage as Daniels is being attacked by The Prophecy, only for The Group to run over to make the save as a brawl breaks out. This brawl spreads from the backstage area into the crowd, and finally into the ring as the match officially gets underway.
There was no possible way to keep track of the action early on, this was a wild, bloodbath of a match, with wrestlers falling left, right and centre. Rhett Titus was first to fall when Azrieal dove off the top of a huge ladder and put him through a table to get the 3 count.
Azrieal would end up being the next wrestler to fall not too long after this, as Gargano planted him with a Hurts Donut off the same ladder and pinned him.
With a man down on both sides, the match calmed down a bit and worked into a proper tag scenario, with only 1 man in at any one time. The match didn't stay even for long however, as Maff got smashed over the head with a steel chair shot from Joe, who got 3 on him to eliminate him.
The Prophecy fought back despite the odds not being in their favour at all, they used every weapon and cheap trick they could, knowing everything was legal in this match. But when Kenny King got a shock 3 count over D'Angelo Dinero, it was only Matthews and Swagger left!
Instantly, Matthews flew into the ring and locked the Hidaka Lock on King, who tapped out before anyone could get in to break up the hold. Matthews got out of dodge as soon as he could to avoid an attack by Daniels.
Daniels pretty much begged Matthews to get in there with him, but he refused, having Swagger do the dirty work in this 3 on 2 handicap scenario. Swagger is a machine and he and Matthews are a capable team, but against two former World Champions and a former World Junior Heavyweight Champion it was never going to be easy. And when Joe nailed a big Muscle Buster on Swagger to get 3, Matthews had nowhere to hide.
Matthews tried to grab his belt and leave, but Joe blocked one side of the ring and Gargano blocked the other, while Hybrid Pro owner Magnus D kept hold of the belt at ringside, ensuring Matthews couldn't run into the crowd. Matthews had no choice but to get into the ring with Daniels, only for Joe and Gargano to run in there to and proceed to give Matthews a thoroughly earned 3 on 1 beatdown! This is payback for the months of beat-downs, months of threats and all the wrestler who Matthews and his Prophecy have wronged. Gargano takes great pleasure in dropping Matthews with a Hurts Donut, which Joe follows with a Muscle Buster. Daniels then nails the BME, and to top things off, locks the limp Matthews in the Hidaka Lock! Matthews is completely unconscious, he can't tap out, so the referee declares Daniels the winner by knockout, DANIELS HAS BEATEN THE CHAMPION!
Winners- The Group
Bray Wyatt (who had chosen to watch the match from backstage), Kenny King and Rhett Titus join The Group in the ring, who proceeded to celebrate this monumental win, while Kyle Matthews is helped to the back by the rest of The Prophecy. The Group has almost fulfilled its mission, the only thing left to do now is for Daniels to do what must have seemed impossible several months ago, that being to dethrone Kyle Matthews and become the new NWA World Heavyweight Champion. The question is, will Daniels do it, or will Matthews somehow find a way to retain and kill the NWA in the process? Doomsday is upon us, but somehow I don't think the NWA has anything to worry about as the fans end the show chanting "next World champ". See you at Fall Brawl!
