So this isn't my best show, but its been a really exhausting week so I haven't been able to put all I like into this, plus realising that The Great American Bash is close I've had to speed up my plans for that show somewhat. Still this should hopefully tide things over until next week's show, where I hope to put something with a bit more substance together.
NWA New York TV 11/07/2014
Jimmy Yang vs Spanky
A solid opener here as we began the series of matches between The Texus and James Gibson, Yang and Justin Gabriel. While we had a lot of fast paced action in this one, they also had some good exchanges on the mat, so it wasn't just flashy moves. Spanky would pin Yang following a Sliced Bread after Yang missed the Yang Time.
Winner- Spanky
We cut to a vignette featuring "Mr Average" Joe Hennig training with "Above Average" Mike Sanders. In a mirror of his debut vignette, Hennig is shown just making par on a round of golf, then after following the advice of Sanders, he is able to improve his score to get a -3 overall, a significant improvement. We then again see him play some basketball, making about 50% of the shots he takes. Sanders gives him some further advice, and before we know it he's making 60% of the shot, another big improvement. Again the advice of Sanders is working it appears.
Kyle O'Reilly vs Santino
O'Reilly got a big ovation from the fans, the former two time NWA World Tag Team Champion feels he has something to prove after a great run in the now defunct NWA New Orleans, and took the fight to Santino in this one. Santino on the other hand seems to be enjoying his losing streak a tad too much, carrying a sign with him to the ring with 0-4 on it. In a pretty one sided affair Santino was able to extend the streak to 0-5, with O'Reilly making Santino tap to the Anklelock.
Winner- Kyle O'Reilly
John Cena vs Dean Ambrose w/Solomon Crowe
Cena was looking for some revenge after the Switchblade Conspiracy attacked him two on one following Cena's victory over Crowe last week. Ambrose controlled much of this match, looking to get into the head of Cena, constantly telling him how often he's failed, that nobody gives a damn about him anymore and that he can't be a star, all while keeping him on the mat. Cena snapped when Ambrose grabbed him by the hair and said that he would never be a World Champion, mounting a tremendous fightback against one of the top stars in the NWA, and took Crowe down with an Attitude Adjustment when he tries to get involved. Ambrose took advantage of this with an attack from behind, following it with the Dirt Deeds. He went for the cover, but Cena not only kicked out at the last second, he reversed to the STF! Ambrose tried to make it to the ropes but couldn't do it, and with Crowe taken out on the outside, he had no choice but to tap out, a massive win for Cena!
Winner- John Cena
NWA New York Junior Heavyweight Title Match
James Gibson vs Michael Shane
Shane may be part of the group that call themselves the super heavyweights of NWA New York, but he didn't turn down the chance to go for the NWA New York Junior Heavyweight Title. Shane put up a good fight in a match that was mainly wrestled on the mat, he took a few shortcuts for sure, but matched Gibson hold for hold for the most part. Gibson would retain his title when he hat the Gibson Driver for the 3 count.
Winner- James Gibson
Brodus Clay head for the ring, carrying his NWA New York Heavyweight Title with a purpose. However he has something to say tonight, which is unusual for a man who has let his fists do the talking for the most part
Clay: For those of you unaware of it, I defeated 14 other men to become the 2014 King of the Ring! That means that "King" Brodus will be ready for a match with you anytime Samoa Joe. I already more than proved I can take you down, now its time for you to prove that your man enough to face me one on one. You name the time and place, and I will beat you anytime paper champion. Look at all I've done, no man alive can stop me, and neither will you Joe, nor anybody else in this sport!
Before Brodus can say anything else, the lights go out, and the unmistakable voice of one man can be heard: The Undertaker!
"Brodus Clay, you say that no man alive can defeat you? Well how about a man who's already dead! Mark my words Brodus, I will avenge what you did to my brother, and then you will rest in peace!"
The lights come back on with Brodus looking a little shaken up and no sign of The Undertaker, BUT THE ROCK AND MICHAEL ELGIN ARE IN THE RING! Brodus sees them and charges, but they duck underneath and attack with duelling punches, followed by a double spit punch to take Brodus down. BUT BRODUS GETS RIGHT BACK UP! Brodus goes for a Fall of Humanity on Elgin, but he ducks and The Rock catches Brodus, ROCK BOTTOM! Elgin and Rock remove their elbow pads and the fans are loving this! They both charge the ropes, DOUBLE PEOPLE'S ELBOW! Clay is out and Rock and Elgin stand tall, posing on the turnbuckle for the fans.
It is then officially announced that at The Great American Bash, The Rock and Michael Elgin will team up to take on "King" Brodus Clay and a tag partner of his choosing, that is if he chooses to have a tag partner. With Elgin and Rock looking a lot more fresh after 2 weeks of training, you have to think that Brodus may reconsider his decision to go it alone, but who would want to team with Brodus after all he's done in NWA New York's short history?
Number One Contenders Match For the NWA New York Tag Team Titles
America's Most Wanted (Chris Harris and James Storm) vs The Second City Saints (CM Punk and Colt Cabana)
The first match back for two of the top tag team in the entire NWA in a match that fans have been wanting to see for many years, this one perhaps didn't quite live up to its billing. These two teams haven't teamed for so long that they were always going to be a bit rough around the edges, so the teamwork wasn't quite as sharp as expected, but the wrestling was solid for the most part and there was a lot of intensity here between the rival teams. The Saints looked to have this won when Punk setup Harris for the Go 2 Sleep, but before he could hit it Mattitude ran out and attacked him for the DQ.
Winners- The Second City Saints by DQ
America's Most Wanted were furious about this, Mattitude cost them a title shot in exchange for getting some quick revenge on The Second City Saints for last week. And as you would expect, America's Most Wanted and Mattitude started brawling, with The Second City Saints joining in for another three team brawl. Officials ran in to break this thing up yet again as things are getting out of control. Will we see a similar situation next week when The Second City Saints challenge Mattitude for the Tag Team Titles?
Our main event is about to begin, as Paul London takes on his former partner Justin Gabriel in a grudge match. However London has something to say before the match begins.
London: Hey James Gibson. Two NWA new York shows now I'm scheduled to face you one on one and finally end this pretence that a lightweight like you can compete with a super heavyweight like me. But why don't we up the stakes a bit. How about we settle this thing at The Great American Bash?
The fans like this idea very much, but something seems fishy about this.
London: Now there are two reason I'm being so bold. First James, I want to prove once and for all that a lightweight like you can't cut it on the big stage, that any chance of you being somebody in the NWA is long gone. But there's also another reason, and that reason is Daniel Bryan. Daniel, I want to make you an offer. You and me are buddies, and you belong in The Texus with me, Michael and Brian. At The Great American Bash you can make the greatest decision of all and finally join the ranks of the super heavyweights. All you have to do is be there for the match, and if any of James Gibson's buddies get involved then take them out. I'll let you decide what its going to be buddy."
Grudge Match
Paul London vs Justin Gabriel
Gabriel was not please with London's pre match comments, seemingly brushing over what is a very big grudge match for him after London turned his back on him to reform The Texus. Gabriel gave London a fight here for sure, pushing the so called super heavyweight to his limits and definitely getting some vengeance for what London did. Indeed it looked like Gabriel was going to pull off a massive victory, climbing to the top for the 450 Splash. But London in an act of desperation shoved the referee into the ropes, causing Gabriel to get crotched on the turnbuckle and fall off. London then hat a Legsweep DDT, followed by the Londons Calling to pin Gabriel and take the win.
Winner- Paul London
