Location: Donald L. Tucker Center, Tallahassee, Florida
The show opens with former NWA South Beach General Manager John "Bradshaw" Layfield hitting the ring to the sound of cheers, just out of the sheer surprise of seeing him. JBL goes on to take a microphone and announce that he has proudly accepted an offer from the Administrative Committee in NWA Florida to be the new Spokesman of the Committee! That means he is now the voice of the highest authority here in NWA Florida, and will be working with the rest of the Committee to ensure that what happens here in NWA Florida is both best for fans and best for business. This all gets a mixed reaction, as nobody really cares all that much, but it's a nice "fyi" sort of spiel to let everyone know just what the heck he is doing here.
JBL goes on to announce that the Committee has decided that NWA Florida needs an overseer... a General Manager, if you will. And after careful consideration, the majority voted and they decided that the fan he is about to introduce should be the one in charge of the day to day operations of the locker room. So, without further ado, JBL introduces MVP! Montel Vontavious Porter makes his way out, and the fans really seem to approve of this. The Miami, Florida, native is here in Tallahassee with a big grin on his face, happy to be back where it all began for him, as he was once one of the brightest stars of the Florida wrestling circuit under the name Antonio Banks.
JBL defers the microphone, and MVP looks happy to have it. He plays up the crowd for a minute, and then gets down to business. He says tonight, he has some big stuff coming for all of the good people of Tallahassee. He says firstly, he has the Rockstars of Wrestling heading into action in a match a little more suiting of a team hoping to recapture the World Tag Team titles. He says tonight, they will be facing the team of Tyson Kidd and Justin Gabriel, a couple of world traveled guys who have been teaming on and off for years and are looking for that big win to get them into title contention! This gets a moderate reaction from those familiar with Kidd and Gabriel, but that's not what is really up MVP's sleeve.
MVP says tonight, he's signed a huge match. He says tonight, he brings the fans the man who claims to be the "Greatest of All Time", "The Phenomenal One", AJ STYLES! The fans really go nuts for this, not expecting it, but he says tonight, it'll be no easy task as Styles heads into "Fall Brawl" looking to add yet another World Jr. Heavyweight championship to his resume. He says tonight, he faces a man who has trained with and fought Daniel Bryan many times, and has had many wars with Styles himself... a man who happens to have quite a lot of bad blood with Styles at this very moment after some recent altercations... tonight, AJ Styles takes on PAUL LONDON in the main event of the evening! He says tonight he proves that wrestling matters here in NWA Florida, and that's why they are going to be bring the best action anywhere!
The fans go nuts for this as MVP leaves on that high note, and he's going to let the action do the talking for him the rest of the evening. Jeremy Borash hits the ring now and he's ready to introduce our first combatants of the evening.
"Mr. Handle That" Mike Facen vs. Angel Santos
Mike Facen was robbed last week in his bid to become North American champion, as the referee missed his foot on the ropes as Jindrak got the deciding pinfall. This week, he left nothing up to chance. Santos has a strong physique and brought a fight to Facen, but Facen was able to drill Santos with a Jackhammer in the center of the ring and end his night with a three count.
Next out to the ring is Paul London, who gets a decently positive reaction, as the fans are just excited to see a big star here in the former World Tag Team champion. London gets on the microphone and says tonight he's supposed to be playing "second banana" to the almighty AJ Styles. The name of Styles gets a pop, but London just smirks sarcastically and moves forward. London says a guy as smug as Styles doesn't deserve the adoration of the fans, and yet, listen to everyone here. He says he doesn't deserve anything, and yet it's all just been given to him. Shot after shot, chance after chance, and now he wants to claim to be the "Greatest of All Time"? On what grounds? Being a douchebag with a cardboard personality? He takes the cake on that one, but as far as being the greatest wrestler? London just laughs as if he's disappointed.
London says he's sad that a true great of the sport, the man who trained him, Shawn Michaels, has had to sit back and listen to such a mockery of his legacy, and the legacy of so many other true greats, as this blowhard goes around acting like everyone has to thank him for making the sport what it is today. London says thanks to Styles, and those like him, they're now working this armpit in Tallahassee instead of headlining 20,000 seat arenas in cities deserving to see a star like Paul London!
The fans really boo up a storm now, and AJ Styles has heard enough, making his way out to the stage to a huge ovation and holding a mic in hand. Styles has his hood on and is sporting a black leather jacket, his long bangs barely revealing the intense glare in his eyes. Styles says he calls himself the "Greatest of All Time" as a challenge, and tonight, it sounds like Paul London has accepted his challenge. If he wants to try and prove him wrong, he's got his shot tonight, and tonight, Styles says he looks forward to giving the people of Tallahassee what they want as he sends Paul London down to the mat hard and pins him for the three count! After that, he says he's going up to Philly, and he's taking his spot back and ending Daniel Bryan's over one year reign as World Jr. Champion!
The crowd is chanting for Styles now, who does his signature pose, and he heads back behind the curtain, going to prepare for his match with London, who leaves the ring with no hint of the smile that was on his face previously.
"Showtime" JB Cool vs. "The King of the Night" Kenny King
Kenny King had attacked JB Cool on the last show, and it became clear from the banter he laid on him in the ring, it's because King believes he deserved a spot on that show, not Cool. Cool would have the fans solidly behind him, and would rock the mouthy King a number of times, getting a few near falls for his efforts. King would manage to escape a Side Effect attempt from "Showtime", rolling him up with a School Boy and a handful of tights, as well as a hand on the middle rope for good measure, to get the three count! The fans boo King as he walks off, very proud of himself and feeling vindicated. Cool kicks the ropes and argues with the refs, appealing to him about the injustice that just happened, but the referee claims he never saw anything and can't reverse his decision now.
The next segment sees DJ Z make his way out to the ring. DJ Z tries to get the crowd behind him as he says he's been working on some "tight beats, bro" and goes on to his Macbook to try to cue them up on the speakers, only to have the sounds of the University of Minnesota's fighting song, "Minnesota Rouser", and DJ Z seems both confused and appalled. The songs brings out a man wearing a pair of short trunks that are maroon and gold, and when he takes the mic, he introduces himself as Shelton Benjamin, who is known to a few fans as a former World Tag Team champion in World Championship Wrestling with his former partner Charlie Haas in the "World's Greatest Tag Team".
DJ Z says he doesn't care what Benjamin's name is, channeling the Rock here, as he wants to know what the Hell the big idea is interrupting his beats!? Benjamin says he's tired of guys like DJ Z coming out here, distracting these fans with their stupid acts and phony gimmicks, and says he doesn't want to hear any crappy beats some B-rate DJ made, tonight, he wants to see what kind of wrestler he is! DJ Z motions for Benjamin to bring it on, obviously incensed, and Benjamin heads down to the ring ready to get this match underway.
Shelton Benjamin vs. DJ Z
This match really doesn't take long. Benjamin gets in and Z storms him, only to get caught with a Fireman's Carry. Z pops up and tries to shoot for Benjamin's leg, but Benjamin takes him over with a Gutwrench Suplex. Z is hurting here, stumbling and looking pretty pathetic as he holds his back. Benjamin looks like a tiger, his brow furrowed and ready to destroy. Benjamin grabs Z, who looks absolutely panicked, and takes him over with his T-Bone Suplex! Benjamin gets up, yelling out and signals for the finish, and then locks on an Ankle Lock! Z tries to escape, scratching and clawing towards the ropes in a daze, but Benjamin latches on with a grapevine and it's all over. Z begins tapping like a wildman and Benjamin gets the highly impressive victory as the fans applaud. The South Carolina native, who was a two-time All American wrestler at the University of Minnesota, looked like a wrestling machine here tonight and might be a force to be reckoned with in NWA Florida.
Jay Lethal vs. ACH
ACH would make his debut here, and he and Lethal would do a good job drawing the crowd in for what was one of the best contests of the night. Lethal would play the heel in many ways, as he kept cutting off ACH as he tried to get the pace going early on, mocking him and grounding him with rest holds, antagonizing the crowd as they cheered on the Texas native. ACH would eventually get some offense going, but Lethal showed he was plenty capable of keeping up, for the most part. After a high energy exchange that had these fans on the edge of their seats, Lethal would catch ACH with his Lethal Combination to stop him dead in his tracks. Lethal would stalk ACH, who slowly made his way up after kicking out of a pin attempt, and would rush and handspring, coming off the ropes with a bounce and nailing the Lethal Injection, getting a big pop from the crowd for his athleticism and getting a three count for his tremendous efforts.
Jay Lethal grabs a mic and says he's tired of this Frankie what's-his-name going around, actin' like a big shot! This is how a big shot acts! He pulls his boot straps up after defeat, and he comes back stronger than ever! He says that this Frankie whoeverk, he may have one upped Jay Lethal one time, but he sure couldn't do it again, not to save his life! He gets in the ring with Jay Lethal again, and he's the one going down for the count, and that goes for anybody, jack! You mess with Jay Lethal, and you face the consequences!
INTERMISSION: AJ Styles is the star of this intermission, as he signs autographs and takes pictures with the fans. The rest of the faces do a meet and greet as well with those not standing in the line of the "Phenomenal One".
Lince Dorado & Manik vs. Trent Baretta & "Bad Influence" Frankie Kazarian
Dorado and Barreta have traded victories the last couple of weeks, and now they squared off in tag team action. Dorado teams up with fellow luchadore Manik, who recently faced and lost to Kazarian, who's been on a roll, as of late. The former World Jr. Heavyweight champion, Kazarian, would continue his roll, catching Dorado up top as he looked like he might dive to the outside onto Barreta, and slammed him off the top with his Flux Capacitor, knocking the wind out of the Puerto Rican star and keeping him down for the three count.
JD Maverick vs. James Alexander
The former tag team partners here have been battling back and forth after Maverick not only turned on Alexander, but went on to attack his hero, Shane Helms, after a match he had with Daniel Bryan. Helms has been absent these past few shows, and Maverick, along with his partner in crime Jonny Vandal, have been trying to draw him back out. Last week, they left Alexander in a pool of blood after Maverick came down on Alexander from the top turnbuckle with the ring bell. This week, Maverick would manage to secure a victory over Alexander, delivering a Flying Elbowdrop and earning a clean enough win.
Maverick goes on to grab a microphone and say he's tired of the games, he wants a shot at Shane Helms one-on-one! He says next week, Helms needs to show or he'll expose to everyone just how much of a coward he truly is in his old age! My intuition tells me "The Hurricane" will be more than ready to accept this challenge.
The Rockstars of Wrestling (Jimmy Rave & John Morrison) w/ Lena Yada vs. Justin Gabriel & Tyson Kidd
The Rockstars would have a much tougher time this week with Gabriel and Kidd as opposed to The NOW, whom they made short work of last week. Gabriel and Kidd were very sound and were able to cut off Jimmy Rave from his partner for a good portion of the match, showing just how sound they are as tacticians. Rave would manage to catch Gabriel with a Spear as he came off the top rope with a Dive, and made a hot tag to turn the tides. After a skirmish, Yada would low bridge Kidd as he tried to run off the ropes, and while this would be a heel move, the fans didn't seem to mind this from her. Morrison and Rave would end up grabbing Gabriel by both of his arms and lifting him up, hitting a Double Crucifix Bomb, and then Rave pulled Gabriel over to take the Starship Pain from Morrison, which got a huge reaction. The Rockstars get the win, but that's not the story here.
After the match out rush The Juicy Product, lead by Kimber Lee, who attack the Rockstars with steel chairs! They don't grab a microphone and explain, as really, do they need to explain why, as a young team, they'd want to attack a team like the Rockstars? I'm sure they will next week, but for now, they seem content to just celebrate over their fallen bodies as Lena tries to get help for her boys from the back.
"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles vs. Paul London
London would bring a lot of fight here, as this seemed to be very personal, but Styles just proved to be too much for the former World Tag Team champion to take. London would manage to pick up some near falls, hitting a Standing Shooting Star Press and a Tiger Suplex that had the fans thinking things might be over, but Styles would persevere. Styles would look absolutely solid near the end, and would actually dust off a move we haven't really seen from him, a Shooting Styles Press to the outside, to get a huge reaction and show London that he's not the only one who can perform that move and do it beautifully. London would try to manage a comeback, catching Styles coming in the corner and trying to bring him off the top with a Huracanrana, but Styles would manage to catch him mid-move and hang on, switching the position slightly and hitting a HUGE Super Styles Clash, and that was all she wrote. Styles makes his debut here in NWA Florida with a magnificent victory over a major rival, and he looks primed and ready for "Fall Brawl"!
