reDRagon (c) defeat The Motor City Machine Guns in a fantastic opener that saw a lot of false finishes. These two teams have met before, and reDRagon was able to get the better of that, so the Heroes of Detroit really were looking to dethrone them and redeem themselves, but they couldn't do it. Sabin would accidentally knock Shelley off of the apron near the end, and you could see Shelley wasn't happy about it as he left Sabin in the ring to get pinned by Bobby Fish after running high knee, and that was that. Is the future of the Motor City Machine Guns in question here? I guess so, since I'm asking that question.
Seth Rollins defeats Bobby Roode in a competitive match. Roode had the fans behind him here, as he played to them and really took it to the heel Rollins, who would mock the fans and Roode alike when he had control of the contest. Rollins managed survive a late onslaught from Roode, which Roode looked to finish with his Roode Bomb, but Rollins reversed it, kicking Roode and then delivering God's Last Gift to seal the win, and looking relieved to do it, as he was close to a loss there.
Jay Lethal (c) defeats Roderick Strong in an X Division title defense. Strong has been on a roll as of late, and this was a good match for Lethal to show he can beat a guy with a style not dissimilar to Daniel Bryan. Lethal showed that he wasn't all flash, and instead worked a great psychological match, slowing down the pace many times, which the fans didn't like at all, and attacked the leg of Strong, repeatedly locking on Half Crabs, Kneebars, Knee Wrenches, and Figure Four Leglocks. Strong would even come off to the top rope and drop his Flying Elbow on Strong's knee, really inflicting damage. Lethal would go on to lock on a final Figure Four, and this time Strong was just too worn to fight it, tapping and giving Lethal a big defense going into his World title shot.
Dark Angel (c) defends her Women's title successfully against Candice LeRae in a very good, but short contest. LeRae recently picked up a tag team win, in which she pinned the champ's tag team partner, and tonight she came in like a house fire, ready to dethrone the queen of Impact. Dark Angel would manage to roll her up tight, though, and held the tights in desperation to get the win, and the fans were not happy about that and neither was LeRae! These two will meet again.
AJ Styles (c) defeats Low Ki in a defense of his Impact Wrestling title to get some momentum going into his match with Joe at StarrCade. Ki and Styles had a hard hitting contest, as expected, but Styles just seemed to have an answer for anything Ki tried to throw at him, having scouted him very well and having faced him many times before. Ki would also have Styles well scouted and managed to reverse the Styles Clash a number of times, but eventually fell victim to the Calf Slicer to lose by submission.
Samoa Joe defeats Davey Richards in a non-title match to show his toughness going into StarrCade. Richards has had some singles success of late, and he has a similar style to AJ Styles, Joe's opponent at StarrCade, so this was a solid tune up for the champion. Richards didn't seem to get the memo that this was just supposed to be a tune up, however, as he really went on the attack and viciously assaulted Joe's legs, trying to get a huge career making win here over the current World champion. Joe would manage reverse a Kimura attempt, and after some ground and pound, managed to latch on with the Coquina clutch! Richards would fight for his life, but his eyes would roll into the back of his head and he had to tap!
