IMPACT WRESTLING
Ep. 9
Taped 02/12/15
Aired 02/19/15
Out to the ring to start the show is that group of men calling themselves the Beat Down Clan! MVP leads out the group comprised of Samoa Joe, Low Ki, Homicide, Tyrus, and now another man named Michael Tarver is with them now. MVP says last week, AJ Styles felt the wrath of the BDC, and Austin Aries felt the strength of the Clan, but now a man named Lashley wants to step up and be hard! He wants to prove he's a big man! Well, MVP says if he wants to fight, they brought in a guy who loves to fight in Michael Tarver!
This leads to a surprise, as out to the ring comes AJ Styles, lead by none other than ROB VAN DAM!
The fans go crazy for RVD, chanting his name and shaking the rafters!
RVD then takes the microphone and waits for the crowd to silence. He says everyone's probably wondering why he's here, and it's simple. He sees great talents, guys that he helped pave the way for, and he sees a bunch of punks called the BDC trying to take them out, use their numbers, and it's got to come to an end! RVD tells the rest of the group to come out, and out walks Austin Aries, Kazarian, and the Young Bucks! The fans are loving this, as the BDC seemed interested now. Note that there is no Bobby Lashley here, so he's obviously not a part of this group, he's just a lone wolf who's got his own agenda.
RVD goes on to say that this group is The Foundation, a group of great competitors that this sport is built on today, and the BDC wish they had the skills and the class of the group standing on this stage! MVP retorts, saying if they all want to get hurt, that's all good, because they'll be happy to take the Young Bucks' belts too!
Styles has his World championship slung over his shoulder and snatches the microphone as the Young Bucks mockingly wiggle their fingers in fear at the threats of MVP, then Matt Jackson takes the mic and tells them to get in line, before handing it back to Styles. Styles goes on to say that Tyrus wanted to try to squash him last week, but tonight, Styles says he will DESTROY Tyrus! The BDC laugh at this, but Tyrus says he's ON!
From there, the segment comes to an end and we are ready to get to our first match of the night!
Trent Barreta vs. Ethan Carter III w/ Damien Sandow
Barreta suffered a tough loss last week to Curt Hawkins thanks to interference from Tyler Reks, and now this week he had to deal with Damien Sandow's meddling as the rich and entitled Ethan Carter tried to pick up a win here. Barreta would manage to catch Carter getting too full of himself, skimming the cat after an attempted back drop. Sandow would try to warn Carter, yelling to look behind him, but when he did, Barreta caught him with a Running High Knee, and that was enough to get the win!
Carter was absolutely livid after this, and seemed to take it out verbally on Sandow!
Off set, we are at a gym, where we see Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish standing before a number of wrestlers, mostly male, with one female, and the faces look pretty familiar. Fish says a new era in professional wrestling is being ushered in, and the rules are changing! O'Reilly says the Young Bucks think they are the cutting edge and deserving champions, and they might have some kind of group forming, but they are living in the past, and the future is reDRagon and the Dragon's Den! Fish says you can look at the great talents standing next to them, from Chris Hero, to Jimmy Jacobs, to Roderick Strong, and even the best female wrestling today, "The AK-47" Allysin Kay, you can see that the Dragon's Den is stacked from top to bottom, front to back! They train together, they fight together, they stick together! The other wrestlers nod and make proclamations of agreement. O'Reilly goes on to say that the old days and the old lines are fading, and tonight, along with Strong, reDRagon will take on the Young Bucks and a partner to be selected by the booking committee, and it doesn't matter who it is, they are going down and the Dragon's Den will rise to the top!
Back in the arena, Taz says he loves what he's seeing with the Dragon's Den, but Christy Hemme is backstage with another group of guys who are calling themselves the Heatseekers. Backstage, Christy is standing in with Curt Hawkins, Tyler Reks, John Morrison, Zack Ryder, and Santana Garrett. Hawkins takes the lead here, saying it's clear that the battle lines have been drawn, and people are taking sides! It's not left or right, north or south, but all over, factions are being formed, and while some choose to stand on their own, the Heatseekers are together till the end! John Morrison then actually takes the lead here, saying he's been in some great groups, been a part of many championship teams, but he feels the talent around him right now can stand with the best of them, and tonight, he's excited to watch his team mate, the big man, Tyler Reks, go out there and show everyone what the Heatseekers can do!
"The New Phenom" Drew Galloway vs. Tyler Reks w/ Santana Garrett
Both of these guys have good size, and this was basically a test of fundamentals and power. Reks would try to keep Galloway grounded and tried to punish him on the mat with heavy blows, but Galloway showed heart and resilience to fight his way back up. Garrett would play a role here, distracting Galloway, but it back fired, as Galloway side stepped and Reks almost knocked Garrett off the ropes, leading Galloway to roll up Reks and get the surprise three count! Galloway makes his way through the crowd in a smart move, as the Heatseekers were quick to rush from the back to try to get a swift revenge that was not to be.
Reks is left with his dread locks in hand, not sure where it all went wrong!
Backstage, Rob Van Dam is with the Foundation and says he just got word from Kurt Angle that tonight Kazarian and Aries are taking on Homicide and Low Ki! He says they've got to get jacked, as tonight is a big moment, and Aries and Kazarian seem ready for the fight!
Backstage, in a darkened corner of the arena, James Storm is standing in with his group, The Revolution! Storm says he has taken in the disregarded and the mistreated, and united them! Those who have been betrayed, given them new hope! He says tonight, two new foot soldiers in the march towards the new age will become one with the Revolution in Eric Young and Chris Sabin as they take on the oppressors who look to hold them down!
The Dragon's Den (Kyle O'Reilly, Bobby Fish, and Roderick Strong) vs. The Young Bucks (Nick Jackson & Matt Jackson) and Matt Sydal
The Dragon's Den came out strong tonight, showing the difference training together as opposed to being mashed up can do for your strategy. The Young Bucks, as always, were in sync with one another, but the Dragons had them scouted, and while Sydal was exciting and had some great exchanges, it was clear O'Reilly, Fish, and Strong were a step ahead. Fish would end up winning the match for his team, catching Matt Jackson with a Jumping Roundhouse Kick after Strong ducked a Superkick, knocking him out for the pinfall! This gives reDRagon a six man tag team victory over the World Tag Team champions, whom they will face at Bound for Glory!
Back in the parking lot, we see a limousine with a license plate reading "3LITE", and out of it steps Jay Lethal, Ricochet, and Alex Shelley, along with Brooke Tessmacher, and they seem to be enjoying themselves, living it up! Christy Hemme is on the scene, trying to get a word with them, asking them if they are taking their match tonight with the Revolution seriously, arriving so late in the night! Lethal cuts her short, saying 3lite go where they want, when they want, and the show doesn't start till 3lite are in the building! Hemme says that last week, Lethal made some bold claims, and then she turns to Shelley, saying he turned on his long time partner Chris Sabin over seemingly a miscommunication! Shelley says this is a business, and the best wrestlers is the best paid wrestler, and 3lite is money, pure and simple! Ricochet says everybody's trying to catch up, but nobody can touch them! Lethal says Chris Sabin drank the Kool-Aid and joined some little hippie group, and Daniel Bryan probably subscribes to their fan letter... it doesn't matter! They got big guys and they got big dreams, but big trees fall hard and big dreams equal big disappointment in the real world! Lethal says 3lite as realists, and in the real world, they are real good looking, real rich, and real successful, and after tonight, the Revolution are going to be REAL SORRY they ever crossed paths with 3LITE!
Bobby Roode then hits the scene, confronting 3lite about being late. He gives them the old "nice of you guys to show up!" and Shelley says they don't care what Roode thinks, he'd just better fall in line and stay out of their way! Roode gives him a nod like "oh, I see" and it's clear this six man tag team match later is going to be interesting.
"The Destroyer" Bobby Lashley vs. Michael Tarver w/ MVP
This was just a vicious brawl, and the fans loved it! MVP yelled at Tarver, trying to coach him, and even though he had a little weight on Lashley, Lashley is just a beast. These two would eventually fight to a double count out, but, as Taz said and the fans seemed to agree, this only made everyone want to see more!
Women's Title:
Dark Angel (c) vs. Madison Rayne
The Dark Angel and Madison Rayne would put on a good, yet short, competitive match here, but it was ruined by the Beauitful People! Velvet Sky and Angelina Love would make their way out here unprovoked and interrupted the match as the Dark Angel was trying to end things on the top. Angel would end up flying off the top and hit a Crossbody onto Sky and Love, getting a pop from the crowd! Back inside, Rayne would manage to hit a Spear as Angel was trying to gain her composure, taking her down long enough for the three and winning the title!
Rayne can't believe it, as she celebrates, and the Beautiful People try to join her in the celebration! Sky gets on the mic and says they were backstage watching and thought she had what it took to be one of them, MAYBE, but Rayne was quick to decline, leading Love to jump the new champ from behind and put the boots to her until out to the ring ran Dark Angel, followed by Mickie James and Ivelisse, who fell victim to them last week! Sky and Love manage to escape unscathed, but it's clear they aren't making any friends in the Knockouts division.
We get a glimpse backstage, as MVP is telling his group to shake it off, because Homicide and Low Ki have to gain them some ground here, or they are going to fall behind! They set something off here in Impact Wrestling, and they are being threatened, so they must strike hardest to make it known who the dominant force is here!
The Foundation (Austin Aries & Kazarian) w/ Rob Van Dam vs. The Beat Down Clan (Homicide & Low Ki) w/ MVP
Both teams looked pretty good at points in the contest, as the BDC ruled the roost early by cutting off Aries in the ring and punishing him, but Kazarian and Aries were able to turn up the heat later after a hot tag, earning a few near falls. MVP had seen enough as Aries and Kazarian were setting up Homicide up top for a big move, heading into the ring with a chair! RVD was quick to slide in and MVP took a swing at him, missing! Before much else can happen, though, as Van Dam pulls back, thinking Van Daminator, out comes Samoa Joe and Michael Tarver to pull their men out of the match, and the referee throws this out!
The BDC retreat here, and it's clear they are trying to play mind games while trying to save their own tails in the process.
3lite (Alex Shelley and Ricochet) and Bobby Roode w/ Jay Lethal & Brooke vs. The Revolution (Abyss, Chris Sabin, and Eric Young) w/ James Storm
Sabin is aggressive out of the box and wants a piece of Shelley, who is coy and calm, and makes his way into the ring. Shelley tries to play games with Sabin, getting in the ropes and playing mind games with Sabin, opening up Sabin to an eye poke, and that changed the course. From there, Ricochet and Shelley tag in and out a few times, laying into Sabin before Sabin makes a hot tag to Eric Young! Young takes down Ricochet hard with some big hip tosses, and Ricochet tags in the man who Young cheated to beat last week, Bobby Roode! Roode is fiery and ready to get his hands on Young, but Young back tracks and tags in Abyss! Abyss comes in and Roode is able to hold his own for a moment until getting caught with a big Black Hole Slam, which gets Abyss a two as James Storm cheers on the destruction of his former long time tag team partner. Roode goes to his corner, looking for help, but Lethal grabs Brooke and motions to 3lite, and they leave Roode hanging, high tailing it to the back! It seems like they think their night is over, and Abyss picks up Roode and drops him with a Chokeslam! Sabin rushes and is up the ramp, taking the fight to 3lite as they try to escape and so follows James Storm to join in the fun, as we have an entryway brawl! Abyss tags in Young in the ring, and Young ascends, coming off top and delivering a Flying Elbowdrop to the fallen Roode, and it's over! The Revolution get the win!
Taz and Mathews note that the landscape in Impact is very grey and muddy, as this match had so much dynamic but it's really up to the individual fans who they want to support, as this sure ain't the good old days of black and white good guys and bad guys! Everybody's got a motive and an attitude here in Impact!
Non-Title:
"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles w/ Rob Van Dam vs. Tyrus w/ MVP
This is a major mismatch in size, as the World Heavyweight champion stares down a true super heavyweight in Tyrus. Styles, though, came in with a plan and worked it diligently, much to the dismay of MVP. Styles would shoot kick Tyrus leg mercilessly throughout this match, severely hobbling the big man by the end of it. Tyrus would manage to grab hold of Styles a couple of times during the match and made him hurt, throwing him, slamming him, and applying a Bearhug at one point, but Styles would manage to overcome as the fans and RVD cheered him on. Styles would manage to catch Tyrus with a Pele Kick, followed by a Springboard Clothesline to actually take the big man down, and that brought out Homicide, Low Ki, and Michael Tarver! Styles was ready, though, and was able to low bridge an on coming Tarver and then dropkicked Low Ki and Homicide simultaneously, sending them flying under the ropes! Samoa Joe would come out, looking like he might try to enter, but out came the rest of the Foundation, and the BDC retreated as Tyrus was left in the ring! Tyrus would make it to a knee, and Styles would blast him with a roundhouse kick to the temple, sending him back down. Styles then headed up top and came back off with the Spiral Tap, and it was all over!
Styles gets the win and he and The Foundation stand tall in the center of the ring as the show comes to an end!
