Off site promo with AJ Styles, who is looking fairly unhinged as he looks down at his World Heavyweight championship in his hands most of the promo. Styles says that being the World Heavyweight champion isn't about being loved or hated, and it isn't about making friends, it's about getting the job done night in and night out. He says Austin Aries made a bold move turning on him last week, and his actions were answered with a greater reaction. Styles says he expected to be turned on at some point, he knows the target is on his back, but as the best wrestler in the world today, as the top superstar in this sport, and the greatest of all time, he's had a target on his back for years and he's very comfortable with it. He says like it or not, he knows what he has to do to survive and keep his title, and he's willing to do anything to do it. He choked out Samoa Joe, he's beaten every one who's stepped in front of them, dominated them, bested them at their own game, and some can hate him, some can dislike him, some can say they are tired of him or they want to see him be "humanized", but the fact is, AJ Styles isn't just any "human", he's more than that, he's "The Phenomenal One" and he cannot be stopped. Tonight, he goes out to the ring with two other men who know what it's like to be the best at what they do, the best tag team today, the Young Bucks, and they will head into Bound for Glory victorious... as always.
We cut to backstage, where Kurt Angle brings together Drew Galloway, Trent Barreta, Tyler Reks and Curt Hawkins in a tense meeting, as Galloway and Barreta have been having trouble with the Heatseekers for some time now. He has brought these parties together to say that the winner of their matches will go on to Bound for Glory to face John Cena in a three way dance. He says if anyone outside interferes in the matches, they will be fired!
Xavier Woods vs. Eric Young
Xavier Woods defeats Eric Young with a Diving DDT from the second turnbuckle to earn the pinfall. Quick opener here, with Young playing the heel and showing Woods no respect here, trying to ground him with chinlocks and armlocks, but Woods would fight back valiantly, however, using some quick reversals to turn the tide and eventually deliver the massive DDT variation to get the pinfall.
3lite, the team comprised of Jay Lethal, Alex Shelley, and Ricochet, are backstage, and looking confident as always. Lethal says that he's received messages and critiques from all over saying he's a madman, a FOOL, for putting up his title shot at Daniel Bryan voluntarily tonight against a man like Low Ki, but Lethal says he's said it before and he'll say it again: he's a FIGHTING champion, the uncrowned champion of the WORLD, and tonight, it doesn't matter what Low Ki does, he will be beat, just like everyone else, and the history books will be set straight at Bound for Glory as Jay Lethal takes his rightful spot amongst the greats in the sport's history! WHOO!
"The AK-47" Allysin Kay vs. "The Wrestling Goddess" Athena
Allysin Kay taps out Athena with a Modified Gogoplata.
The Heatseekers are backstage, and Curt Hawkins is prepping up Tyler Reks here, who is looking pretty pumped. Hawkins says tonight, they run over their opposition, and then at Bound for Glory, it doesn't matter which one does it, but one of them is going to beat John Cena, GUARANTEED, and walk out the North American champion!
Drew Galloway vs. Tyler Reks
Drew Galloway defeats Tyler Reks after delivering a single leg dropkick to a chair, then delivering a Double Arm DDT. Reks would send Galloway into the ref at one point in the match, avoiding the Double Arm DDT and then headed to the outside to grab a chair to try and finish off Galloway. Galloway managed to avoid chair contact and delivered a kick to the chair, and it was clear the move backfired, and now Galloway is the first announced to face John Cena at BFG!
Backstage, we see Chris Sabin standing in with Christy Hemme. Hemme asks about Sabin's mentality, having been turned on twice recently and now facing a big challenge tonight in Gunner. Sabin says tonight, he's going to show why you can't keep Chris Sabin down, and he will get a measure of revenge on Gunner and Storm! He says that at Bound for Glory, though, that's where he gets his true measure of vindication. He says he's been watching Alex Shelley prancing around with his 3lite buddies, and the fans may like them, the internet may love them, and they may love themselves, but at Bound for Glory, one-on-one, he's going to show why he was always the greatest Machine Gun!
Chris Sabin vs. Gunner w/ James Storm
Chris Sabin defeats Gunner after reversing the Hangar 12 with a DDT, followed by a La Magistral cradle for the pinfall win! Gunner looked strong here and put a hurting Sabin, but Sabin would use quick strikes and some dare devil tactics throughout the match to stay competitive. Storm would interfere at different points in the match to swing the momentum when Sabin started to get on a roll, but it wasn't enough, as Sabin would use a key reversal at the right time to clean Gunner's clock, and wrapped him up tight to get the win!
Madison Rayne is backstage with Ivelisse before Ivelisse's match tonight. She says she'll have her back tonight, and tells her to kick Velvet Sky's ass, and Ivelisse says it's going to be her pleasure!
Ivelisse w/ Madison Rayne vs. Velvet Sky w/ Angelina Love
Ivelisse would win by disqualification, after Love would bolt into the ring and assault her as she was attempting to pin Sky following a Wheelbarrow DDT.
Rayne comes in to make the save, but eventually gets caught with a Botox Injection from Love, and the Beautiful People leave with their heads held high, much to the disdain of the crowd.
MVP, Low Ki, and Michael Tarver are backstage and MVP is getting his group hyped up. MVP says tonight, they are going to show Jay Lethal he's made the biggest mistake of his life, and he's walking out of here without a belt! Michael Tarver goes on to say at Bound for Glory, Low Ki's going to walk out with the World title, and Tarver says he's walking out with Bobby Lashley's blood on his hands!
Curt Hawkins vs. Trent Barreta
Curt Hawkins defeats Trent Barreta after reversing a Swinging DDT a Northern Lights Suplex, which Hawkins rolls through and turns into a Jacknife Pin with his feet on the ropes to steal the pinfall! Barreta and Hawkins would have a compelling match, knowing each other very well, with Hawkins getting himself over a heel even further by slowing down the match a number of times and using underhanded tactics to both hurt and mock Barreta. Barreta would manage to reverse a Taste of Pain attempt from Hawkins with a backslide, getting a near fall, and turned the tides, hitting some big shots before trying for his Swinging DDT, only to have it reversed and have Hawkins use a final underhanded move to steal the win, and now it's Hawkins and Galloway headed to Bound for Glory to face John Cena for the North American title!
We are at an offsite location, where we see an ailing Austin Aries, who seems to be in a lot of pain and very stiff around the neck area. Aries says he may be hurting now, and he may not be able to be in the Impact Zone tonight, but he says at Bound for Glory, he's going to seize his destiny and put AJ Styles in his place! He says Styles thinks he's unbeatable, but Austin Aries has made a career on doing the impossible, achieving the improbable, and at Bound for Glory, he will defeat the seemingly unstoppable AJ Styles to become the new World Heavyweight champion!
AJ Styles, Matt Jackson, and Nick Jackson vs. Matt Sydal, Kyle O'Reilly, and Bobby Fish
Kyle O'Reilly makes AJ Styles submit to a Flying Cross Armbar after Austin Aries came down to the ring, distracting Styles as he was looking to hit the Styles Clash and leaving Styles open to get caught in the center of the ring. This was obviously a huge victory for Kyle O'Reilly, in any event, as Aries left looking vindicated and reDRagon head into Bound for Glory with a lot of momentum to try to take the Tag Team titles from the Young Bucks. Styles and the Young Bucks were showing some heel attitude in this match, and the fans really seemed to be split on them, though they still got a big reaction. Styles seemed very confident near the end after hitting a devastating striking combination on O'Reilly, outstretching his arms and slowly looking to each side as he called for the Styles Clash, but Aries, who nobody seemed to know was in the building, came out looking to be doing just fine, contrary to what his promo previous to this match seemed to indicate, and Styles looked like he'd seen a ghost. Aries would get on the apron and taunt Styles, and Styles tossed O'Reilly to the side, looking to mix it up with A-Double, but Aries coyly backed off as Sydal, Fish, and the Bucks all continued to brawl on the outside of the ring. Sydal would head up top and hit an amazing Shooting Star Plancha off the buckles, taking out everyone, which is a move ironically made famous by Styles. Styles would turn, hearing the pop and commotion, and would see O'Reilly up and running at him. Styles would put his arm up to try to defend himself, only to get taken down with the last of many arm submissions he'd been put through by O'Reilly and his partners through the course of the contest, and O'Reilly just had it sank in too well. Styles would tap for the second time in three weeks here in Impact, and the cracks are beginning to really show in the World Heavyweight champion's armor here as O'Reilly and company celebrate this huge what has to be considered an upset victory here tonight!
Before the main event, we head backstage where chaos ensues and we see that Bobby Lashley has gone in like a bull and went right after Michael Tarver, causing security to hit the scene and break them up, but it's clear some damage has been done, as MVP and Low Ki try to pull him from harms way. Will this shake up affect Low Ki at all going into this match?
X DIVISION TITLE:
Low Ki w/ MVP vs. Jay Lethal (c) w/ Alex Shelley & Ricochet
Low Ki would shock the world as managed to use the chaos of MVP interfering and 3lite trying to counteract it to his advantage, catching Lethal on the top as he was distracted by MVP with the Tidal Crush to crotch him, followed by a Super Ki Krusher, leading him to win the title! Low Ki and MVP looked a little off early after that sneak attack from Lashley, but MVP would get it together, grabbing at Lethal in the ring a few times and goading Shelley and Ricochet into coming after him, causing distractions left and right in this match. The final coup would come when MVP would get up on the apron as Lethal had Ki staggered. That split second allowed Ki to get oriented and then tumble over to Lethal's position on the top turnbuckle, leaping and kicking him, knocking him senseless! From there, Ki hooked him in and drove him down, and it's all over! Nobody kicks out of that, and these fans are stunned!
After match, the fans are outraged, booing and chanting "BULLSHIT!", as they feel like they are being robbed from their rematch between Lethal and Daniel Bryan at Bound for Glory. Kurt Angle comes out and the mood changes, as everyone can pretty much surmise one of two things is going to happen. Angle takes a mic and congratulates Low Ki and MVP, they came out with a game plan and cheated their way into Bound for Glory, and he says Low Ki has earned a shot at Daniel Bryan's World Junior Heavyweight title, getting boos from the crowd as Ki looks very pleased. Angle says that he can hear the fans, and knows 3lite will say that the dirty tactics of Ki and MVP should cause the decision to be reversed, but he says he will not reverse the decision, getting more boos and chants. Angle goes on to say though that at Bound for Glory, the World Junior Heavyweight title match will be a three way match, and that gets huge cheers as Jay Lethal, Alex Shelley, and Ricochet stand in the center of the ring looking somewhat vindicated, flashing their hand signal and the fans chant "JAY LETHAL!" and as Ki and MVP try to protest, the show coming to a close.
