So there's a lot of what I'd call enhancement and showcase matches on this show in addition to lots of talking, but this is just how things worked out from a storyline perspective so I hope that this will benefit the product once we get to Maximum Force in 2 weeks time.
NWA Maximum: Maximum Impact 22/05/2015
Out to begin our show are Money Inc, Alberto Del Rio and the renamed Robert Roode.
Money Inc (Alberto Del Rio and Robert Roode) vs Pinkie Sanchez and Corvis Fear
Sanchez has history in New Jersey with a spell in Hybrid Pro, and actually teamed with Fear in the Newgen faction many years ago. They however were little match for Money Inc on the night, as this was largely a showcase for the newly formed team. Roode would take Fear down with a Northern Lariat as Del Rio locked Sanchez in the Cross Armbreaker to make him tap out.
Winners- Money Inc
Del Rio takes the mic post match .
Del Rio: “My name is Alberto Del Rio, but you already know that. And this is Robert Roode, my tag partner, financial advisor and second in command, a man who will help me to achieve the goal of Tag Team Title success. My friend has some things he would like to say. “
Roode: “Ted Dibiase, you and I might have been tag team partners once in California, perhaps even friends, but when you and I came here to New Jersey and you got cut off, I decided to go where the money was. Trust me though Ted, I didn’t sell out, I bought in. Its going to be a pleasure proving why working class scum like you deserve to be at the bottom, while the rich like me and Alberto prove we are the cream of the crop!”
Money Inc leave to boos from the fans. We will be hearing from Ted Dibiase later on tonight.
The Rhodes Scholars are out, with another open challenge for any team in the NWA. This time however they might have bitten off more than they can chew as their challenge is answered by Matt Taven and Mike Bennett, The Pistols! Taven takes the mic pre-match.
Taven: “I can’t believe that you two chumps are the tag champions of this company. We redefined tag team wrestling in New Jersey and represented this state with honour in the NWA, there’s nothing honourable about you. Tonight we will beat you, earn a title shot and then make our way back to the top of the NWA ladder.
Non-Title Match
The Rhodes Scholars (Cody Rhodes and Damien Sandow) vs The Pistols (Mike Bennett and Matt Taven)
Good, competitive match here, a tough challenge for The Rhodes Scholars against the former NWA World Tag Team Champions who looked as sharp as ever, demonstrating the chemistry and workrate that brought them gold in the NWA. The Rhodes Scholars however are also a strong team and cunning in their approach, they managed to reign in The Pistols, initially by isolating Bennett from his corner and working him over with quick tags and double teams, then when Bennett made the hot tag they had Taven all to themselves. Taven put up a good fight and got a near fall on Sandow with the Climax, only broken up by a fortunate rope break. Taven went for a Frog Splash, but Rhodes came in and crotched Taven on the ropes, dragging him down and hitting the Diamond Dust which got him the 3 count.
Winners- The Rhodes Scholars
Sandow takes the mic post match.
Sandow: “And these two chumps just defeated you. You’re welcome.”
The Rhodes Scholars leave as I guess they feel they’ve proven they are worthy champions with a win over the former World Tag Team Champions, but I don’t feel like this is the last we’ve seen of Taven and Bennett in New Jersey.
We cut to a different bar from the one we saw last week. We see Sheamus sitting at one of the tables, downing a Guinness.
Sheamus: “Hey there fellas, once again I’m enjoying a Guinness at one of the locals. There’s nothing better in he world after kicking some arse. The only thing that can make this better is a pack o’ peanuts, think I’ll grab some from the bar.
Sheamus gets up, Guinness in hand to go to the bar, but bumps into a big man and drops his glass to the floor. The big man sits at the bar as Sheamus looks far from pleased. Sheamus goes up to him and he turns around to reveal its DAN MAFF!
Maff: “You want a piece of me punk?”
Sheamus turns to the camera.
Sheamus: “He doesn’t know me very well does he fellas?”
Sheamus responds by smacking Maff with a bar stool as the two start brawling, fighting away back and forth against each other. Two bouncers walk in to try and break this up and throw them out, but Sheamus and Maff respond by beating the hell out of the bouncers and then continuing their brawl. We see people diving to get out of the way and I think we should come back to this later.
Bad News Barrett vs Rhett Titus
Much like last week, this was a showcase for Barrett who is looking to get a run of wins together to put him back in title contention. Titus has had runs in other NWA promotions, most notably NWA South Beach, and he was a good opponent for Barrett, getting a few near falls before Barrett put him away with the Bad News Hammer.
Winner- Bad News Barrett
Barrett takes the mic post match.
Barrett: “Win number two on the winning streak, soon my streak will be bigger than even Goldberg’s. I’m afraid that I have BAD NEWS for the entire NWA, and some might call it old news. Well The Barrett Barrage is back, I am the lone star in a promotion of parasites, and my fists are my weapons of choice. When I rise to the top, there is only going to be BAD NEWS for all the other stars of the NWA!”
We cut to a trailer park and more specifically to Ted Dibiase’s trailer, where we see Dibiase looking a bit depressed, drinking a beer in front of the TV. There’s a knock at the door and Dibiase goes to answer. At the door is James Storm.
Storm: “Hey Ted. Can I come in?”
Dibiase: “Sure, grab a beer.”
Storm walks in, takes a beer and sits on the couch as Dibiase goes back to his chair.
Storm: “Listen man, about Bobby Roode, it sucks that he turned his back on you and I can relate to that. He did the same to me, we were former 2 time World Tag champs together before he went to CPW to team with you. And something needs to be done.”
Dibiase: “Yeah, but what can I do about it? They’ve got money and power, and I’m only trailer park trash now at the end of it”
Storm: “Let me put it this way: what can WE do about it? I’m here for a reason Ted, I want to help you fight Money Inc and get some revenge on those two smug assholes. They need to be cut down to size, for the good of the everyday working man that we both represent night in and night out.”
Dibiase: “I’m not going to turn down a helping hand, you’ve got yourself a deal brother. I don’t have a lot of friends in this business anymore since I lost my money, but maybe that’s a good thing, now I know who my real friends are. What about a team name? “
Storm: “How about Priceless? Because unlike Bobby Roode, neither you or I can be bought by money!”
Dibiase: “I’ll drink to that!”
The two down their beers and go back to watching the show, a new team having been formed to counteract Money Inc. We will see them in action next week
Non-Title Match
“Machine Gun” Karl Anderson vs Luke Hawx
NWA TV Champion Randy Orton came out prior to the match and joined the commentary team. Hawx has made appearances in various NWA territories in the past, and this was another chance for him to make a name for himself against the current NWA Maximum Heavyweight Champion. He put up a solid effort and got some offence in on the champ, but it was largely just a chance for Anderson to showcase the skills that won him the belt in the first place. Anderson would hit the Gun Stun after Hawx missed a Halo, giving him the 3 count.
Winner- Karl Anderson
Post match Orton gets up from the announce table and sarcastically applauds Anderson before taking the mic
Orton: Congratulations Karl, great job. I mean I’d have beaten that chump in under a minute but just like your title reign, I’ll give you a 5/10 for effort. I…
Before Orton can say anything more, Dean Ambrose charges out of the crowd AND NAILS ORTON WITH THE RING BELL! Ambrose takes the mic.
Ambrose: “And I’ll give you $10 to shut the fuck up! Well how do you like that, he stopped talking after I rung his bell. Be warned, if one of you chumps don’t give me a title shot, then I might just have to get violent!”
Ambrose leaves through the crowd as Anderson doesn’t exactly know what to make of what just happened, but he chooses to celebrate his win before leaving, as Orton nurses his head and tries to get his wits about him after the attack.
We cut back to the bar as Sheamus and Dan Maff are still beating away on each other, but with a lot less force now as they are both exhausted.
Sheamus: “Wow, you’re one tough fella, most would be down and out by this point. What do ya say we settle this in the ring with a match?
Maff: “Your damn right I’m up for a match. I’ll kick your ass later!”
Both Maff and Sheamus walk off with kegs of beer, Sheamus probably with Guinness again as we look around the bar and see the carnage of the brawl: people lying on the ground in pain, most of the bar and its contents destroyed and the barman cowering behind the counter. He gets up from behind there and say the final words of the scene.
Barman: “Last orders please”
We get a quick video package, hyping the matchup between Brock Lesnar and Samoa Joe. We see clips of Lesnar from his rivalry versus Brodus Clay, in addition to some of his other exploits in the NWA, intercepted with clips of Samoa Joe from his reign as NWA World Champion and his time in OVW. Samoa Joe will make his in-ring debut next week on Maximum Impact, as he prepares for one of his greatest challenges to date.
We are ready for our main event as Matt Hardy and Shane Helms are set to team up despite their recent problems versus The Fallen of Personal Demons and The Reject. The Fallen come out followed by Hardy who is alone, Helms is nowhere to be seen. He’s ready to start the match as it looks like he is going this alone.
Main Event, Handicap Match
Matt Hardy vs The Fallen (Personal Demons and The Reject)
While a handicap match on paper, Personal Demons really wanted little part of Matt Hardy, so this largely ended up being a one on one contest between Hardy and The Reject. Indeed Demons only actually got involved when Hardy was down on the canvas, picking his shots wisely and getting out of there when Hardy showed any remote signs of recovery. Hardy mounted a fightback against the initial assault from The Fallen, firing away on The Reject and taking him down with a Side Effect, then trying to grab his brother. Demons wanted no part of this again and Hardy ended up chasing him around the ringside area ONLY FOR THE REJECT TO CATCH HIM WITH A SUICIDE DIVE! The Reject drags Hardy into the ring and goes for a Halo, but Hardy moves and The Reject hits the canvas. Hardy then goes for the Twist of Fate and hits it, covers The Reject and gets the 3 count to overcome the odds and win the handicap match, albeit it wasn’t much of a handicap when Demons wouldn’t even go in the ring for most of the match.
Winner- Matt Hardy
Post match before Hardy can even catch his breath, Demons rushes back in with a chair and tries to level Hardy with it, but he ducks underneath and finally gets his hands on his brother, unloading with some rights and lefts. That is until The Reject with the last of his energy sneaks a Low Blow, allowing Demons to grab Hardy. TWIST OF FATE ON THE CHAIR! Demons grabs The Reject and leaves, as The Fallen may have lost the battle, but once again they have the last word and still look the favourites to win the war.
We cut to the very back of the crowd, as we see Shane Helms watching from the shadows, he has been here the entire time but clearly wanted no part of teaming with Matt Hardy nor this match. What is he thinking right now? Who’s side is he on, Personal Demons or Matt Hardy? I expect we will find out the answer soon.
To end our show we cut to “The Commissioner of Asskicking” Steve Blackman in his office.
Blackman: “Hello wrestling fans, I hope you’ve enjoyed tonight’s action. So after much deliberation, I have decided on the man who will face AJ Styles for the World Heavyweight Title at Maximum Force. It was a very tough decision and I had a lot to consider. Before I confirm the man who will get the shot, I need to confirm one man who will not. That man is Daniel Bryan. “
The fans boo this decision as we cut to Daniel Bryan in the locker room, looking disappointed by the news as he watches on the monitor.
Blackman: “This is nothing against him or his great achievements as NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion, the like of which I expect won’t be replicated in this alliance for many, many years. But Daniel Bryan hasn’t even made his in-ring debut in NWA Maximum yet, so therefore I cannot pass over that fact and give him the title match, or I would be denying men who have worked hard in that locker room their chance to step up.
So after much deliberation, I have decided to give the title match to a man who despite his star power in the NWA has never had a match for the NWA World Heavyweight Title, a man who is a former World Junior Heavyweight Champion and has been a key part of many of the top factions in the NWA in recent years. The icing on the cake to secure his shot was his win over a former NWA World Heavyweight Champion several weeks ago in this very arena. The man who will face AJ Styles for the NWA World Heavyweight Title at Maximum Force will be…..JOHNNY GARGANO!”
The fans are mixed on this decision, some cheering as it will be an epic matchup for sure, and others booing as they wanted Daniel Bryan to get that shot. We cut to Johnny Gargano and Kyle Matthews in the locker room as Gargano doesn’t look sure how to react to the news, as Matthews gives his a death glare and walks away. Could this be the thing that causes the tentative alliance between Gargano and Matthews to completely collapse? The show ends with a shot of Bray Wyatt alongside Paul London, laughing away about this development, he has to be loving this decision as it only aids him in his fight versus The Unholy Alliance. See you next week folks!
