"PTSD Awareness Month Charity Event"
National Guard Armory - Cleveland, OH
06/29/2012
OPENING SEGMENT
We head to the ring, where we see Jeremy Borash standing with Gabe Sapolsky, Shane Douglas, Dave Prazak, Raven, Mick Foley, Sabu, Finlay, and Jake "The Snake" Roberts. The fans are going crazy for all of these guys, as they are some of the biggest legends in professional wrestling, and they are all standing to greet the soldiers and fans who are in attendance tonight.
Borash goes on to talk about PTSD and the evening ahead, and how the thoughts and prayers of each and every member of the Great Lakes staff and roster are with the troops, and the entire locker room felt it was important to give something back and show their gratitude. Borash went on to say that at intermission, there will be an autograph signing session, and at the end of the show, there will be further chance for a meet and greet with the stars and staff of NWA Great Lakes.
Borash goes on to say that he and the rest of the staff feel that they have put together a show here that each and every match could have been the main event... the match ups are just that good, from top to bottom. So, without any further delay, let the action begin!
MATCH ONE
Jay Lethal vs. "The Man That Gravity Forgot" PAC
When you're opening a show with a match between two stars the caliber of Lethal and PAC, you know you have a stacked roster, and Great Lakes is certainly blessed with that. PAC has really worked in the last couple of years to become a very complete wrestler, while Lethal has always possessed an impressive array of all around skills. Lethal is certainly more of a ring general, commanding a lot of crowd reaction with his interactive skills, and he is very good athletically himself; however, PAC is just a pure specimen, and demands reaction by the amazing things he can do in the ring. With a roster like Great Lakes has, though, being athletic is not going to set you apart. Heart and determination are the factors that really play in, and PAC just seemed a lot more desperate for the win here, tonight. PAC would deliver his Flaming Star Press (Imploding 450 Splash) on Lethal after a frantic finishing sequence to pick up the pinfall after a hot and fast paced opener.
MATCH TWO
Anthony Nese vs. AR Fox
This was a very even match, and one that many insiders really wanted to see, as these two wrestlers are being touted as two of the real blue chip prospects of the future of professional wrestling. When stacke side by side, both of these guys have comparable skills, but what sets each apart is one, Nese has a slight power advantage, while Fox is slightly taller, with perhaps a slight agility advantage. Fox may also be the more precise high flier, as he definitely has a certain grace about him with his dives, while Nese can be a bit more rugged, typically leading to a more brutal execution, ultimately. Such was the case when he hit a suicide dive through the ropes, and instead of it being like a smooth missile, it was more of a primal shoulder tackle straight to Fox's face, which ended up mashing him hard into the guardrail. Fox would show his heart, kicking out of a 450 Splash and also getting up from a Dead Lift German Suplex, which saw him bounce off of the top of his head and end up on his feet, wobbling and yelling out in a battle cry. Fox would miss an attempted Yakuza Kick, but come off of the middle buckle and backwards with his Fox Cutter, only earning a two count. Nese would come back with a flurry of strikes, taking Fox down and then heading up top. Fox would get to his feet and leap, bouncing into the ropes and crotching Nese up top. This would lead to Fox running and hitting his wildly impressive Lo Mein Pain (Leaping Sit-Out Springboard Spanish Fly) to get the hard earned victory going into his title match on the 6th!
SEGMENT
"Goodbye Horses" hits the speakers, and out walks Jimmy Jacobs, title to his back and looking more maniacal than ever, with his shaggy beard and now sporting some red dye in his hair. Jacobs gets in the ring, grabbing the microphone.
Jimmy Jacobs:
Listen, listen... shut up!
The fans are booing loudly now.
Jimmy Jacobs:
I am constantly being disrespected; constantly being looked down on, and being called dimunitive names! I'm the champion, damn it! Ha...
You know what? I don't even care, because it's just more fuel for my fire, creating more steam to power the engines that drive my cause. Tonight, I'm going to get the unique and distinct pleasure... the pleasure of beating down and humiliating a smug, cancerous sore on the face of professional wrestling, a one... Teddy Hart.
Mixed reaction from the fans here.
Jimmy Jacobs:
This guy thinks he's God's gift to women and wrestling, but what he fails to realize is that everybody hates him, and he is a loser. Teddy, I'm going to make you bleed and give these fans what they really want... and that is an end to your career, once and for all.
Just as Jimmy makes his point, "All Eyez On Me" hits the speakers and out walks his challenger, Teddy Hart, wearing sunglasses and holding a microphone.
Teddy Hart:
Hey there, Jimmy, no need to come out here and cry and be butt-hurt because you don't got the looks, the talent, or the pedigree of Ted Hart, my friend. You see, I understand your jealousy, and your envy, and the fact that you're scared. Scared of something more powerful than you, scared of something you don't understand. You could never understand a man like me, Jimmy. We're in two different stations in life, my friend.
Look at me. I've been groomed for greatness since my birth, and I carry on the greatest legacy in professional wrestling. You, you've been somewhere I've never been... you've been a jabronie for years, and you're just finally tasting a little success and you like it. I mean, look at you, you look like a God damn homeless person; it's like giving bread to the Auschwitz prisoners, you give a little and they want more and more, until they eat themselves to death because they've been starving. You've been starving for success, and you got a little, and now it's going to be the death of you. Ted Hart, the "King of Controversy," is going to be the death of you.
Unlike you, Jim, I've been here before. You call me smug, but I act like I've been here before. I know I'm good, I know I'm the best, and I can back that up. You can't live up to your own hype, you're nothing but a phony with that belt, and I'm gonna expose you for the paper champion you are.
I'm Teddy Hart, and I've come to Great Lakes with a mission... that's to shock and amaze, and I'm going to rape this sport into submission. I'm going to take that belt hostage, use it for everything it's worth, and then I'm going to take over the NWA... and you can bet your ass on that!
Teddy drops the mic, and we have a stare down, as Jacobs clutches his belt in the ring and yells profanities at him from the ring before Teddy turns and heads back to the back.
MATCH THREE
"The Anarchist" Arik Cannon vs. "Infamous" Bobby Fish
Pretty short match here, that was definitely more of a fight than a wrestling match. The match started out with a feeling out process, as both men traded holds and tried to find a weakness. Eventually, Fish would open up with a massive roundhouse kick to Cannon, telling him to "bring it on!" Cannon and Fish would then decide to wage war, and start striking back and forth, brawling around ringside. Fish is a powerful guy, and obviously had more technique than Cannon, but Cannon is just a tough son of a bitch, who wouldn't stop coming and wouldn't give up. In the end, Cannon would duck a Buzzsaw Kick from Fish, and deliver a massive German Suplex, and then nail his Glimmering Warlock to get the pinfall in a blistering win!
MATCH FOUR
"The Suburban Terrorist" Michael Facade vs. "The Warrior" Gran Akuma
This match was also relatively short, clocking in around 7 minutes, but these two made it count. Gran Akuma has been called "the white Low Ki," and his technique does deserve those kinds of accolades. He came out of the gate and hard and fast, trying to squash Facade, but Facade showed his agility and speed, avoiding Akuma's onslaught and then sending him to the outside with a Headscissors Takeover, followed by a Front Flip Suicida! Facade would get hardcore on the outside, using a chair to smash Akuma with, before hitting some Sabu inspired offense. Akuma would turn the tides with the chair, and bust Facade open with it, before taking things back to the ring. Facade would manage to reverse the Tenchi Crash, hitting a Chest Compactor, followed by his Cross Legged Northern Lights Bomb to get the pinfall!
SEGMENT
Out walks Silas Young to the ring, holding a mic.
Silas Young:
Alright, everybody just shut up, I've got somethin' to say!
The fans are booing Young now, and he smiles a bit.
Silas Young:
Jeer me, boo me, I couldn't care less. What I've got to say is short and sweet. You see, my name is Silas Young, and I've been in this business for a lot of years. I'm a damn fine wrestler, and a Hell of a prospect, and I can wrestle circles around just about anyone in the sport today. In fact, I'll go as far as to say I'm the last real man left in this sport. Tonight, I'm facing a clown, a guy who doesn't deserve to work with the ring crew, let lone wrestle someone of my superior skills, and that man is Colt Cabana. Cabana, you're trying to reinvent yourself and make people care, but you're a joke. I'm the man around here, and I'm the guy who should be kickin' CM Punk's teeth down his throat, which you're never going to be able to do.
Screw the trial series, I'm gonna put an end to ya' right now and save everyone the trouble.
"Bring the Noise" hits the speakers, and out walks Cabana, who has a smile on his face and is talking crap about Young on the way down, mocking his speech. Cabana slides in and ducks a clothesline, before nailing Young with some big right hands as the bell sounds.
MATCH FIVE
"Classic" Colt Cabana vs. Silas Young
This was definitely more of a wrestling match than we had really see so far, as these guys would use a lot of wrestling holds and psychology throughout. Young played an exemplary heel, using a lot of dirty tactics and interacting with the crowd, while Cabana was able to keep the crowd behind him and entertain them with a lot of little nuances throughout, all while showing his superb technical acumen. The ref would get bumped at one point, leading to Young low blowing Cabana and then grabbing a chair, trying to assault Cabana with it, but Cabana would dodge it, leading to Young hitting the top rope and the chair coming back into his face hard. Cabana would then hit a Tornado Snap Suplex on the chair for good measure, following up by locking on his Chicago Crab, which would cause Young to tap out as the ref was coming to. Strong, smartly worked match here, and a good victory for Cabana. Young really proved himself to be an asset to the company as well with his heel tenacity.
MATCH SIX
Ricochet vs. "The Contract Killer" Rocky Romero
Romero knows that he is fast, but Ricochet may very well be faster. Ricochet is three inches taller, but Romero outweighs him by 12 pounds, so Romero decided to do what any smart person would do, and attempted to ground the high flying sensation. Ricochet has been working on his mat wrestling skills as of late, and that really showed in this exchange, but "The Contract Killer" is just a dominating force when it comes to grappling. Ricochet would get to the ropes, forcing Romero to back off a bit.
Romero would come in and attack with some punishing kicks and knees, followed by a vicious onslaught of open hand strikes. He would whip Ricochet, which ended up being a mistake, as Ricochet would springboard off of the middle rope and catch Romero with a twisting armdrag, followed by a Spinning Wheel Kick to send Rocky out of the ring. Ricochet would go on to nail a very impressive No Hand Corkscrew Moonsault Plancha to get the fans on their feet here in Cleveland! Ricochet would lay into Romero with some chops and hard thrust kicks, before sending him back into the ring. Ricochet leaps up to the apron, and after taunting the crowd, goes for a springboard, only to have Romero catch him with a Leaping Shin Kick to the chest in mid-air!
Romero goes on to attempt a Monkey Flip on Ricochet, but Ricochet lands on his feet, turning, only to see Romero roll backwards and catch him with his ankles around his neck and attempt to pull him forward, but Ricochet does a cartwheel to evade that as well. Romero rolls back up to his feet and Ricochet attempts to strike with hands and kicks, but Romero blocks all of his advances before delivering a jaw shattering leaping knee strike, followed by a spinning back chop and then a running, flying Shin Kick... oh, Ricochet evades that, falling on his back and kipping up! Ricochet attempts a spinning Roundhouse Kick, but Romero ducks it and catches him in the Diablo Armbar! Ricochet scurries, getting his foot on the rope for the break.
Romero keeps on the attack, striking and going for an Exploder Suplex, but Ricocet elbows his way out and gabs Romero into a Cobra Clutch backbreaker, followed by a twisting slam! Ricochet attempts the cover, but only a two count! Ricochet applies pleasure with an armlock, driving his elbow into Romero's neck, but Romero escapes with a leg sweep, and mounts Ricochet, slapping him multiple times, before locking on the Cross Armbar again, but Ricochet manages to roll it over, causing Romero to turn the move into a Triangle Choke! Ricochet is in trouble, but reaches out his long leg to get the rope break.
Ricochet feels the desperation setting in now, and blocks some on coming strikes from Romero, ducking a Roundhouse Kick aimed for his head and grabbing Romero's arms from behind, executing a HARD Backslide Driver! It takes Ricochet, a second to recover, but he eventually pulls Romero into position, heading up top and nailing a perfect Shooting Star Press, but it only earns a two count! Ricochet picks Romero and lays into him with kicks, before trying a whip, but Romero rolls, catching Ricochet's leg in the process and locking on a tight Ankle Lock! Ricochet is in a lot of pain, but rolls and sends Romero into the corner. Ricochet hobbles up and nails a Corner Backflip Kick that sends Romero onto his ass, leaning against the buckles. From there, Ricochet runs and delivers a massive Cannonball Senton attack, smashing Romero into the corner! Ricochet pulls him out, attempting to win the match, but only a two count! Ricochet is frustrated now, and heads up top, looking for a Phoenix Splash now, but Romero rolls out of the way and Ricochet is forced to roll through and ends up back on his feet quickly.
Romero advances with strikes, trying for a Fujiwara Armbar, before going back after the ankle, but Ricochet rolls out of that and ends up kicking Romeo right in the face, sending him backwards. Ricochet kips up and runs Romero, wanting to catch him with a High Kick, but Romero dodges it, causing Ricochet catch his leg on the top rope. Romero capitalizes, grabbing him into a brutal Capture Suplex, which earns him a two count! Romero once again tries to cinch in the Cross Armbar, bt Ricochet continues to roll and try to escape, leading Romero take the waistlock and pick him up, and hitting a Bridging German Suplex this time, but still getting a two count! Romero, though, transitions and is now going back after the Ankle Lock!
This guy is completely relentless! Ricochet wraps his arm around the bottom rope, and Romero hangs on for a four count before relinquishing. Romero mocks Ricochet, telling him to get up, as these fans are on the edge of their seat, wondering who's will is going to break first. Romero comes in with another striking flurry, but Ricochet catches him with a spinning back elbow, followed by a Springboard Moonsault, sending Romero down to his back and into a pinning predicamet, but only a two count! Ricochet kicks Romero to the back and ribs now, before lifting him up and going for a whip. Romero twists and tries to reverse, going for a running elbow strike, but Ricochet ducks and turns, leaping up and grabbing Romero's head from behind and taking him down hard with a Reverse Bulldog! Ricochet, looking embattled, climbs up the turnbuckles to the top rope. Looking away from Romero, he flies, rotating twice in the air before coming down with his Double Rotation Moonsault!
Ricochet hits hard, as he didn't catch Romero very flush with it, and has to roll away for a minute in pain, as the fans jump and cheer with approval! Ricochet finally rolls over to Romero, draping his arm over him, thinking he has it won, but NO! Romero kicks out! Ricochet's spirit looks to be truly fractured now! Ricochet gets up, picking up Romero, and signals to the air with a whirling finger, mascarading his dismay. Ricochet then attempts a Swinging DDT off of the ropes, but Romero reverses it into a Northern Lights Suplex! The referee counts to two before he flips himself over and turns it into another Cross Armbar! Ricochet is hurting, and maybe it's over, but NO! Ricochet gets to the ropes again to break it!
Romero lets go and smells blood in the water. He kicks Ricochet is the arm, before sending straight punches into his bicep. He tries to do an armbar takedown, but Ricochet rolls through and catches him with a shin kick to the face. Ricochet then gets to his feet and ducks a slap attempt, nailing Romero with a Uranage Slam! Romero just hit rock bottom! Ricochet gets up, looking dazed, and spins his hands around themselves, signaling to the buckles. Ricochet ascends, probably looking for the 630 Senton now. Romero, however, is stirring slowly on the mat on his back, before sending his legs into the air and twisting them almost Three Amigos style, reaching his feet with a crazed look in his eye. He sees Ricochet on top and rushes, jumping and screaming out, slapping the taste out of his mouth with a leaping Palm Strike! Ricochet is dazed up top, and now Romero rushes, bolting upward and grabbing him up, slamming him off the top with a Flying Armbar Takedown!
The air has been knocked out of Ricochet, as Romero latches on with his Diablo Armbar! Exhausted and thoroughly beaten today, Ricochet has to tap! These fans give these guys a standing ovation for what must surely be considered the Match of the Night!
NWA GREAT LAKES CHAMPIONSHIP
MATCH SEVEN
Jimmy Jacobs (c) vs. Teddy Hart
Well, it was going to be hard to top Ricochet and Romero, and these guys really didn't even try. Instead, they stuck to a good psychology based match, which saw a good deal of brawling and hardcore spots, with both men bleeding in the contest. These two fought throughout the crowd, getting up close and personal with the fans, before heading back into the ring. Teddy Hart would show off some of his more fancy offense throughout, hitting the Shooting Star Elbowdrop and his version of the Spiral Tap throughout. The spot of the match came when ladders go involved, and Hart actually nailed his Hart Destroyer (Double Underhook Canadian Destroyer) onto a ladder bridging the rail and the apron. Despite all of the punishment, Jimmy Jacobs would show his heart once again, and his pain threshold, surviving whatever Hart threw at him and then making him regret it, hitting Hart with a lot of hard thoughts throughout. Hart also showed his determination, kicking out of what looked like sure death when Jacobs nailed him with a Curb Stomp right onto a ladder. In the end, Jacobs would deliver a BRUTAL Senton Backsplash off of nearly the top of a 15 foot ladder, and that was enough to retain his belt tonight. It was a good and memorable way to end the show for a very satisfied audience.
