GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN
SEPTEMBER 14, 2012
We go to the announce table, where we see Dave Prazak, Raven, and Mick Foley sitting in, and everybody is excited about this show. From the World Heavyweight title match in the main event, being contested by two wrestlers who are very familiar with one another, to the shocking attack from Spanky at the last show that lead to his match with the American Dragon tonight, all the way down to the major debuts we have coming tonight, this show is top to bottom sure to be a great and memorable one. Without further ado, let's get on with it!
MATCH ONE
Cherry Bomb & Portia Perez vs. Jenny Rose & Jennifer Blake
Rose and Blake were playing the faces here, and were able to keep the energy level up against Cherry and Perez, who tried to slowly grind into their opponents and cut off the ring. Rose would change the complexion of the contest with a blind tag to Blake, followed by a springboard front dropkick to Bomb to send her out of the ring. From there, Blake would dive through ropes out onto her, followed by Rose ducking a clothesline from Perez and rolling her up with a backslide, driving her feet into the mat hard to hang on and get the shocking three count!
Perez couldn't believe it, and was very vocally upset with the referee. Here in Great Lakes, a match can end in a split second, so keep your blinking to a minimum!
MATCH TWO
"The American Wolf" Davey Richards vs. "Classic" Colt Cabana
Davey Richards was a massive acquisition for Great Lakes, having accolades from around the world on his resume, but he drew a very stiff card for his debut, taking on the very popular and talented Colt Cabana! Cabana is always fun to watch, as he loves to interact with the crowd and embarass his opponents with his technical savvy, and it was much the same in this contest. Richards is a great technical wrestler, and an even more deadly striker, but Cabana was able to utilize a sound strategy of chain wrestling and working over his knee in order to slow down "The American Wolf" and try to neutralize his kicks, or at least minimize their devastating effects. Richards would like wise work over the leg of Cabana, trying to beat him at his own game and earn the submission, but Cabana would end the match in flashy fashion, utilizing a flying leg scissors takedown to Davey's leg, trapping his ankle and executing a torturous looking Heel Hook. Davey is very tough and very proud, but he got caught in a wicked way here and had to admit defeat.
Davey extended his hand to Cabana after the match, and Cabana accepted, showing some great sportsmanship after a match that showcased both men's expert mat wrestling skills.
MATCH THREE
Swagger Hounds: Amazing Red & Sonjay Dutt vs. The Strong & The Black: Roderick Strong & Tyler Black
Red and Dutt always get the crowd going with their big entrance, Dutt doing his smooth dancing foot work, while Red shows off some breakdancing skills in the middle of the ring, letting everyone know it's about to get entertaining. You weren't going to see a single bit of that style or flare from Strong and Black, who came into the ring looking to make a big debut and punish the high flying duo who have been a force in Great Lakes for some time now. Roderick and Tyler were definitely impressive, as they used hard hits and a tactical approach to really bring the pain to their lucha libre inspired opponents, but Dutt and Red have no shortage of heart or fan support, and were able to rally and use some quick tag team combos, delivering a very devastating Double Belly-to-Back into a Double Bulldog, before hitting a Backflip Legdrop/Red Star Press combo on Black to earn the pinfall!
Dutt gets on the mic, and says that he and Red don't care who comes into Great Lakes and what they think they've done, the reason people watch the shows are standing right in the middle of the ring, and they've been tearing shit up for a minute now. No matter who it is, from anywhere in the NWA, the Swagger Hounds are turning all the heads, and are ready to come for the World Tag Team titles! The so-called "Rockstars of Wrestling" wish they had half the swagger of Dutt and Red, according to Sonjay, and after the two teams face off, they are going to wish they still had their titles!
MATCH FOUR
"The Perfect Weapon" Delirious vs. "The Contract Killer" Rocky Romero[/b]
Both of these men have suffered some tough losses lately, but exude such skills that no matter what, you just know they aren't going to stay down. Delirious is a serious fan favorite, but Romero is always doing something in the ring to turn heads and has great charisma, so the fans got a real treat watching these two ply their craft. They worked really well, feeding off of each other, as Romero played well into Delirious' offbeat antics, only to push things into serious territory and give the fans some awesome chain wrestling exchanges at super high velocity. Romero, in typical "Contract Killer" fashion, went after the arm and frequently attempted to submit Delirious, while Delirious dug into his deep arsenal and tried just about everything he could think of to pick up the win. Romero would do what few have ever done, and kick out of the Chemical Imbalance II, but he could not kick out of the second of two Shadows Over Hell that were executed throughout the duration of the match, allowing Delirious to get his hand raised in satisfying fashion!
Romero was visibly very upset at the end, the frustration really seeming to mount in him, as he knows he is one of the best in the world, but is having a lot of trouble sealing the deal the last few shows.
MATCH FIVE
"That Young Knockout Kid" Chris Hero vs. "The Technical Messiah" Alex Shelley
Chris Hero got a huge ovation from the crowd, but nobody is more popular in Michigan than Alex Shelley, and these fans were solidly behind "The Technical Messiah." Talk about entertainment value, as these guys built this match great, really playing into the fans and working the psychology, as Hero and Shelley are very well rounded, but Hero prefers to use his striking arsenal to get the job done these days, while Shelley, despite his plethora of skills, is constantly looking to get that submisson victory. Hero and Shelley both have forgotten more moves than most wrestlers know, so it's needless to say they were trying to pull out a number of techniques to try and put the other away, but for every move they know, they might know even more counters. Hero would use his lethal elbow strikes to earn near fall after near fall, but Shelley's relentless working of the legs and neck would ultimately win out this match for him. Hero would escape two Border City Stretches, and even survived the Stretch Plum, but he was unable to battle the Regal Stretch successfully, and that was that. Alex Shelley continues his winning ways, while Hero has a lot to think about going forward.
They say failure is the only way to learn and improve, and I have a feeling Hero is going to take this experience and do just that.

Backstage, we see Jeremy Borash standing in with Christopher Daniels. Borash asks Daniels, a man who has held every major World championship, what his goals are now for his future in the business?
Christopher Daniels:
You know, Jeremy, when you've been around the world and done everything there is to do, people just kind of assume you're going to lose your drive... lose your will to compete, and kind of fall by the wayside, so all of the more "deserving" and "hungry" young competitors can cme up and take your spot. I never got that, though, I mean... here I am, standing here, a man who's been in this business for 20 years, and truth be told, I've worked harder than anyone else in this business to get where I'm at; I've trained hard and fought even harder, and the concept of just... stepping to the side, "knowing my place," and letting others just waltz on in and have a taste of what I have... no. No, Jeremy, I don't think so. I don't think that's what "The Fallen Angel" plans to do at all. No, I think what Christopher Daniels does now is continue to be the best wrestler to ever live, until I physically cannot go any longer. I think I'm going to keep going out there and do what I do better than anyone else, and I think, perhaps, I once again set my sights for the sun... aim right for the heart of it, and capture once again the highest prize in the industry: The World Heavyweight Title.
Right now, that title is being held by a man in attendance tonight. That being the case, I'll be sure to make an example out of my opponent tonight, a very tough individual I've faced many times by the name of Low Ki. Low Ki and I, we've traded victories back and forth for years, but tonight? Tonight, I think I feel inspired. I think tonight, I throw my name into the hat once again, and I show CM Punk and the World that Christopher Daniels hasn't gone anywhere, and like anything great in this world, whether it be a fine wine or, more aptly, a classic hot rod, I've only gotten better and more impressive with age. I'm in the best shape of my life, and I know more now than I ever have.
It's game set match for the entire industry, because I've decided to make my move once again. I've decided it is time that I reign supreme... time to take my spot back atop the throne. And that... is the Gospel... according to the Fallen Angel.
With that, we head back to the ring for the next match.
MATCH SIX
"The Warrior" Low Ki vs. "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels
Low Ki obviously was not very impressed with what Daniels had to say before the match, because he stormed across the ring and tore into him with a wide array of strikes, causing Daniels to block and then go for a takedown, desperate to slow the pace and get things more into his realm of expertise, which is wrestling, not brawling. Daniels and Ki would trade holds, before Daniels executed a dropkick to send Ki to the outside. The two would heatedly battle on the outside after a dive from Daniels, before Ki would turn the tables with a big Gamenjiri, followed by a Double Stomp from the guardrail. Daniels would turn the tides with a low blow, turning the fans on him. Daniels would hook Ki's arms like the Angel's Wings, dumping him stomach first onto the the guardrail, before running and delivering a very painful looking knee to the side of his head, sending him down to the floor in a bad way! Back in the ring, these guys would throw everything they had at each other, whether it was the Tidal Crush or Springboard Gamejiri from Low Ki, or Daniels locking on the Koji Clutch, it seemed like the momentum just kept shifting, and nobody knew who'd really come out on top here. Ki would get caught on top the first time he went for the Warrior's Way, getting hit with a Palm Strike, followed by the Fall From Grace, but managed to kick out. The second time he attempted it, Daniels would move, but he'd lock on the Dragon Clutch after ducking a clothesline and hitting a Dragon Suplex, but Daniels would manage to fight his way out and turn it into the Last Rites! Daniels was unable to capitalize on that in time, though, and Ki would kick out of the subsequential pin attempt. Finally, Ki would attempt the Ki Krusher for the last time, never able to successfully execute the move during the contest, but Daniels managed to escape it, delivering a big kick and the Angel's Wings! Daniels was not done, however, stumbling over to the buckles after repositioning Ki, then hitting his Best Moonsault Ever to the delight of the crowd, and getting the three count!
Daniels could be heard yelling that "THE FALLEN ANGEL IS ASCENDING ONCE AGAIN!" and few could question that after this display.

Jeremy Borash is backstage with Spanky now, and asks him the burning question: "Why did you attack The American Dragon at the last show seemingly unprovoked?"
Spanky:
Listen, Jeremy, I attacked Bryan to make a statement, and to get him to take a match he's been dodging ever since he's become an "international sensation," getting his back slapped and all of the praise over in East Coast; a company I went to, and they deemed me "not good enough" to cut it, despite Bryan and I having nearly identical training and skills, and with me having WAY MORE personality and charisma in one of my fingers than he has in his entire body!
You see, it doesn't seem like that long ago to me that the tables were turned, and everybody was singing my praises. He and I, we'd face off all around the country, and we'd have amazing matches that turned everyone's heads, and yet, somewhere along the line, the tables got turned, and guys like me and London were discarded as mid-card or novelty acts... I mean, look at the stupid shit they've got Paul doing over there. He's holding the X Division title, trying to stay on TV with some stupid gimmick, while Bryan just phones in the same bullshit he's always done, and everybody thinks he's so great and deserves World title matches.
NEWS FLASH! IT SHOULD BE ME!
It should be me, Spanky, Brian Kendrick, getting shots at CM Punk, but instead, it's boring ass Bryan Danielson. Well tonight, I WRESTLE some respect into that goatfaced punk, and remind him of who he really is! I'm going to stretch him and humble him, and I'm going to show everybody who the true superstar is!
And, with that, it's on with the action... back to the ring!
MATCH SEVEN
Spanky vs. The American Dragon (East Coast)
The American Dragon and Spanky have had countless matches with one another, and have traded many victories, but tonight, it seemed both men were especially heated, and put on a wrestling clinic for the fans. Spanky came off as very brash and cocky to start, flipping off the fans as they rained down on him with chants of "YOU'RE GONNA GET YOUR FUCKIN' HEAD KICKED IN!" He stated off playing some mind games, but this eventually went to the mat, where both men wanted it. From there, they would trade holds and counters, neither man seemingly having an edge, but they would just masterfully contort one another for the pleasure of the crowd. These two would banter back and forth like two vindictive brothers, with Spanky actually taking the match into striking territory, throwing a hard flurry of strikes, before coming off the ropes with a Spinning Wheel Kick! Dragon would fire back with hard elbows and chops, followed by a series of European Uppercuts in the corner, finishing up with a wicked spinning backchop to the neck and a crushing Regal-Plex, which earned him a two count! Spanky would shock Dragon by back flipping and landing on his feet as he was attempting a Super Belly-to-Back Suplex, going on to deliver a neck-breaking Reverse Frakensteiner from the top! The fans could not even believe that! Spanky would go on to lock on a Camel Clutch, bashing Dragon across the face with multiple crossface punches, wrenching his neck, but Dragon refused to tap. This lead Spanky to lock on a body scissors, latching himself onto Dragon with a Cobra Clutch, and that was it. Dragon was just too devastated, and passed out from the lack of blood flow to the brain.
Spanky, in what has to be seen as a massive upset, was able to best the American Dragon tonight, continuing his impressive winning ways! He didn't celebrate, however, just walking away like it was no big deal... business as usual. He obviously was never counting himself out in that match, unlike most in attendance.
MATCH EIGHT
#1 Contendership Trophy
Jimmy Jacobs vs. BJ Whitmer
The feud between these two has spilled over into the Orient, as Jacobs and Whitmer had an altercation over in Rising Sun recently. Gabe Sapolsky and Shane Douglas discussed what to do, and decided the best thing to do was harnass this hatred and put a prize on the line to draw the most from this situation, dangling yet another title shot in front of the two very talented competitors. The theory seemed to work, as both men came into this match ready to fight, colliding with a collar and elbow tie up that saw both men fall out of the ring and grapple into the crowd, before commencing with the brawl we all knew was brewing! If it wasn't nailed down, it was considered fair game, and both men were bleeding by the end of this. Jacobs would show the heart that has won him over with the crowd and helped make him a very worthy inaugural first champion for the promotion, surviving all of the hard hits and even getting to the ropes whilst in the dreaded clutches of the Peruvian Necktie, finally forcing Whitmer to succumb to his third attempted Guillotine Choke, really cinching it in and earning the Number One Contendership Trophy!
Will Jacobs manage to take back what he believes is rightfully his, the Great Lakes title? He'll now be able to decide the time and the place to give it a shot. He takes the microphone, holding the trophy and looking down at it as blood drips from his face.
Jimmy Jacobs:
Next month... October 5th... Bobby Fish, I'm going home and I'm going to dress my wounds, clear my mind, on October 5th, I'm going to take back what should still be mine, and that's the Great Lakes championship!
Jacobs leaves the ring after that big announcement, which should be a pretty sound strategy.
MATCH NINE
#1 Contendership to World Jr. Heavyweight Title
"The Russian Hooligan" Alex Koslov vs. Matt Sydal vs. "The Master of the Dark Hadou" Kenny Omega vs. Ricochet
This was not a very long match, and there were some missed spots that sort of took away from it, but overall, it was a decent showcase of some of the best Great Lakes has to offer. Omega and Sydal seemed to form an alliance in this match, targetting the former World champion and the ever hated Koslov, but this was a singles match, and that alliance had to break down at some point, Sydal actually shocking Omega with a quick school boy for a two count. Koslov looked like he might be poised to take this thing, delivering a well timed Springboard Splash on Sydal in the middle of the ring, but Ricochet soared through the air with a Springboard Phoenix Splash, dropping every jaw with how graceful and high impact that move was, and it was all over. Ricochet pinned Koslov to get the win, and he'll be getting a shot at Gargano to try and take back the title he held earlier this month!
SEGMENT
Jeremy Borash is backstage with Rob Van Dam, where he has a question burning in his brain: "Why is RVD here in Great Lakes, trying to take the championship?"
Rob Van Dam:
First of all, Jeremy, Rob Van Dam is in demand everywhere, all of the time, and the only way a small time promotion like this could possibly get me to arrive is by letting their chump of a champion get in the ring with me. In this case, that's Bobby Fish, a man who's obviously a fan of "Mr. Every Night," but I'll get back to him in a minute. Secondly, it's damn fine to be back home here in Michigan. I got to see some family and old friends, and a lot of them are out there tonight, ready to cheer me on with the rest of my legion of fans, in what is sure to be the highest grossing event this promotion has ever experienced.
As for Bobby Fish, isn't it obvious? Isn't it obvious that he just wants to be me, immitating my style and moves, Hell, stealing from many of the true greats in this business, and I, for one, am sick of it. And unlike Kurt Angle, I'm a superstar who can actually back up what he says these days. I've been all over, I've faced the best, and I've rocked the crowd every time. Bobby Fish doesn't realize it, or maybe he does, but tonight is the biggest night of his life. He gets to face his idol, he gets to lose gracefully against a much greater opponent, and he can tell his grandchildren that he once... just once... got close to greatness. But I am just that, greatness, Jeremy, and whether he likes it or not, he's going to find out why ROB-VAN-DAM is the WHOLE-FUCKING-SHOW!
RVD does his signature thumb pumping pose, before we head back to the ring.
MATCH TEN
NWA Great Lakes Title
"The Round Eye Samurai" Bobby Fish (c) vs. "The Whole F'N Show" Rob Van Dam
"RE...SPECT... WALK!"
Rob Van Dam always gets a huge reaction when he comes out to the ring, and his native Michigan fans love him. As much as they love him, though, everybody respects Bobby Fish, and RVD found out why tonight. Van Dam tried to push things, using his striking arsenal and coming off very cocky in this contest, but Fish is also a martial artist, and a talented one at that, and RVD seemed to be thinking twice after eating some kicks and knees from Fish, about pursuing that line of attack in the future. RVD would pick up a few near falls throughout, but seemed to get a little gassed and went to the rest holds for a bit, causing the fans to get behind Fish as he rallied back. Fish would manage to duck a Van Daminator attempt, tossing the chair at RVD and nailing his finishing Jumping Spinkick into it! Fish would then crouch in the corner, goading RVD to get back up, before rushing and jumping through the air, smashing him in the face with a Flying Knee Attack, and it was all over. Fish has once again overcome a former World champion in his quest for greatness, as the fans chant his name!
RVD raises Bobby Fish's hand, looking to be hurting after that physically demanding contest. Fish and RVD leave the ring, and RVD heads to ringside, slapping fans and signing some autographs, when out of the crowd jumps LANCE STORM! Storm has tackled RVD and is laying into him with punches, ripping off his hoodie and telling RVD to get up... only to level him with a BEAUTIFUL Superkick! Storm stands over RVD, posing, the fans cheering out of sheer shock, and we have to wonder... WHAT THE FUCK!?
SEGMENT
We go backstage, where CM Punk is standing with his championship over his shoulder.
CM Punk:
So, it's no surprise, everybody wants a piece of me. Even without this belt, I'd still be the guy with the target on his back, because EVERYBODY KNOWS who I am... and that is the best wrestler alive today. There isn't even anyone in close second, and that's just a fact.
So, Great Lakes... Gabe, Shane, whoever else makes the calls around here, you guys bring me in and the best you can do... the best guy you could dig out of your ass to put in front of me is Homicide??? When I heard this, I thought, "Surely, they are joking," but no, no, you guys were serious. And that's fine. I'll beat him like I've beaten him a hundred times before, and I'll go about my life being the best in the business... maybe ever. But still, I hear more and more talk from a lot of guys who can't back it up. Whether it's Daniels or Spanky or Jimmy Jacobs... Hell, Colt Cabana, who I proved beyond a shadow of a doubt I'm better than about a month ago... no matter who it is, you can put them in front of me, because I'm hungry. I'm famished for a challenge, and I will eat them alive.
I will devour each and every one of them until they realize that challenging me is futile. Even the wrestlers here, despite their lack of talents and brains, have their limit. Even wrestlers as low as these can have their spirits broken, and I'll thoroughly enjoy the process.
Punk lays on a shit-eating-grin, and it's off to the main event.
MATCH ELEVEN
NWA World Heavyweight Title
"The Best in the World" CM Punk (c) vs. "The Notorious 187" Homicide
Punk and Homicide tied up, and the fans were ready for a war here. Punk played the crowd like the champion he is, leaving them hanging on his every move, while Homicide did a good job of being fired up and giving them someone to get behind, as he was just relentless in his attack. Homicide wanted this to be a brawl, and these two would battle around the outside, jockeying for position and trying to lay on the punishment. Homicide, at one point, would take someone's belt from their pants and begin whipping Punk, calling him a little bitch as he did it! Punk would catch Homicide with a low blow, before grabbing a woman's high heeled shoe and digging it into his forehead, before bashing him with it! Homicide was bleeding after this, and they took it back inside. Punk would attempt to end things with the Anaconda Vice, but Homicide would get to the ropes and break it up. Punk would try for the Go 2 Sleep, but Homicide actually blocked it and delivered a STIFF West Brooklyn Lariat for a close two count! Punk would skillfully avoid the Cop Killa, and would pull out the move he dusted off in his last Great Lakes appearance, the infamous Pepsi Plunge, which he used to a mixed reaction from the crowd, and has said that he likes to use it because he knows it pisses people off, but he doesn't care. He claims psychology goes out the window when you crash onto your face from the top turnbuckle, and it's hard to argue with that, considering it earned him a three count here tonight.
Punk successfully defends, and he kneels down, choking Homicide with a mic in his hand.
CM Punk:
What did I tell you, 'Cide? Huh? You can't beat me! Nobody can! Just a bunch of stupid, moronic losers, both in that locker room, and the idiots who actually cheer you pathetic fools on! I don't even know how this dump is still running!
That's when, from the announcer's table, explodes RAVEN! Raven and Punk have had a number of matches back and forth over the years, and have more recently had some harsh words back and forth at the announcer's table, but it looks like he's HAD IT! The fans explode with approval, as Raven comes in, wielding a chair, and SMASHES PUNK OVER THE HEAD WITH IT! Punk rolls out of the ring, stumbling, and Raven THROWS HIS TITLE BELT OUT AFTER HIM!
Raven:
You know what, Punk? I'm tired of you walking around, showing absolutely no respect, when it's these fans that made YOU who you are, and pay your bills, and it's guys like me who paved the way for you, gave you a hand, and yet you are constantly shitting on me, my friends, and everybody else. Well I'VE HAD IT! I don't want your belt, I don't even care if I beat you... I just want to kick your fucking teeth in!
QUOTH THE RAVEN...
Raven lowers the mic as the fans finish his catchphrase...
"NEVERMORE!"
Raven stares a hole through Punk, as Punk backs away, holding his head and sneering at one of his true arch rivals from the ramp as the show comes to an end.
