NWA Hybrid Pro Sunrise Cup III
Hybrid Pro Commissioner John Laurinaitis is in the ring to make an announcement to start the show.
Laurinaitis: Ladies and gentlemen, as you know this is the third ever Sunrise Cup, and with some of the finest young athletes in professional wrestling today taking part, its sure to be an exciting tournament. Thats why I've decided to up the stakes a bit. The winner of this tournament doesn't just have the option of competing for the Hybrid Pro Heavyweight Title, they have the option to compete for the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Title as well!
The crowd love that, we may very well see a top new contender for the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Title crowned tonight.
Kyle Matthews makes his way out with a massive frown on his face, looking far from pleased at what was just announced. He takes the microphone from Laurinaitis.
Matthews: Are you kidding me? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? You can't be serious about this John, I thought you of all people would have a bit more respect for me than this. From day one you said I was going to be your top guy, and now that I am the top guy, your treating me as second fiddle compared to your new favourite, all because he holds the World Junior Heavyweight Title. I'm sick of playing second fiddle, I'm the Heavyweight Champion of this company, and the only truly Hybrid athelete in the NWA. And you'd better start showing me some respect!
The fans are really laying into Matthews.
Matthews: You people are going to disrespect me now, after all I've done. After every great match I've put on for you, after I killed Cibernetico's digital dreams and saved this company, after every sacrifice I've made for you all. You people make me sick!
The fans boo even more and start chanting "Revolution" which only angers Matthews. MATTHEWS THEN KNOCKS OUT LAURINAITIS WITH A RIGHT HAND! He puts him in the Hidaka Lock, and Matthews has completely lost it. Officials run out to stop him as he has to be restrained by security. Laurinaitis is then helped out on a stretcher as Matthews leaves via the crowd.
Sunrise Cup Qualifier
Kenny Omega vs Prince Devitt
These two are battling for the final spot in the first round, and they put on quite a show here, with this match having a bit of everything: comedy early on from Omega, plus some crisp matwork, then lots of high risk moves and silky fast paced holds and counter holds. The match however was fairly short, with both men going all out to get a win quick to exert the minimum amount of energy they could so they are still fresh for the second round. Omega ended up picking up the win following the Aoi Shoudou.
Winner- Kenny Omega
The first round will be as follows-
Damien Sandow makes his way out to the ring, accompanying Bray Wyatt.
Sandow: Unenlightened sheep of New Jersey, allow me to introduce you to the future of this industry, the man who will dominate the opposition in the Sunrise Cup tonight, and one of the finest minds in our industry. Morons, here is Bray Wyatt. Your welcome!
Sunrise Cup First Round Match
Bray Wyatt w/Damien Sandow vs Rich Swann
Wyatt's alliance with Sandow hasn't exactly proved fruitful for him so far, if only due to the actions of Randy Orton towards Sandow. Still Sandow's interference helped Wyatt dominate Swann for the most part in this match, with Swann only getting brief moment of offence in. Things turned a bit when as Sandow was holding back Swann from the apron, Randy Orton made his way out. He pulls Sandow off the apron and nails the RKO! The distraction allows Swann to hit a Hurricanrana and the Standing 450, and score a massive upset!
Winner- Rich Swann
Orton isn't done yet. He goes into the ring as Swann leaves and sizes up Wyatt. PUNT KICK! Wyatt could be on the sidelines for quite some time after that. Sandow leaves vowing to get his revenge or Orton soon, as Orton once again pounds the mat and begs for Sandow to face him.
Sunrise Cup First Round Match
AR Fox vs Chuck Taylor
A great little match here, it didn't last for very long at a little over 7 minutes in length, but both men packed in a ton of exciting offence, with Fox in particular wowing the fans with his high flying skill. Taylor however had the more experience of the two, and was more seasoned on the mat, so was able to reign in Fox's high flying and get him down onto the canvas. One Awful Waffle later and Taylor advanced.
Winner- Chuck Taylor
Sunrise Cup First Round Match
Katsuhiko Nakajima vs Kenny Omega
Just an utterly awesome match from start to finish between two of the absolute best young athletes in professional wrestling today, representing Rising Sun Resuringu and Great Lakes respectively. For the most part it was a hard hitting, mat based contest, with the two exchanging hold and kicks, but there was also a fair bit of high flying from these junior heavyweights to, especially from Omega who took a lot of risk to try and get himself the win. However a 450 Splash was maybe one step too far, as he missed and that proved to be Omega's downfall. A German Suplex followed by the Death Roll and Nakajima went through to the next round.
Winner- Katsuhiko Nakajima
Sunrise Cup First Round Match
Derrick Bateman vs Trent Barreta
A fine little match here, but these two didn't really click from a wrestling standpoint, Bateman's more powerful style didn't mesh with the faster paced style of Barreta. They did however have some fun mat based exchanges, which kept the crowd into the match, and it worked out into a pretty entertaining bout in the end. Barreta advanced after hitting the Dudebuster DDT.
Winner- Trent Barreta
The semi finals are as follows-
Sunrise Cup Semi Final Match
Rich Swann vs Chuck Taylor
Taylor looked the fresher of the two in this match, as Swann had been on the receiving end of a beating for the majority of his match with Bray Wyatt, while Taylor had kept his match short and paced himself well. As a result, Swann was only able to match Taylor for the opening minutes of the match, going all out with his high flying moves, before Taylor reigned him in as he did AR Fox and keep him on the canvas. Swann went all out at the end and missed a Standing 450, allowing Taylor to nail the Awful Waffle and advance to the final!
Winner- Chuck Taylor
Sunrise Cup Semi Final Match
Katsuhiko Nakajima vs Trent Barreta
Another really great match here, not quite on the level of the amazing Nakajima/Omega match, but that was a difficult one to follow. Nakajima looked genuinely quite worn out after all he had given, and Barreta took full advantage of this by nailing some big high flying moves and keeping Nakajima on the canvas. Nakajima however had those hard hitting strikes that Barreta found difficult to contend with, and dropped Barreta with some big Suplexes that knocked him silly. Nakajima went for a big German, but Barreta rolled through into a pinning combination, and was able to steal the win and advance to the final!
Winner- Trent Barreta
The final is up next, and will be between Chuck Taylor and Trent Barreta.
We get a 5-10 minute rest period for Barreta, during which we see highlights of the tournament so far.
Sunrise Cup Final
Chuck Taylor vs Trent Barreta
Again Taylor looked to have conditioned himself perfectly, coming into this fresher than Barreta, but Barreta had a lot of tricks up his sleeve, and was a way tougher opponent for Taylor than in his two previous matches. These two battled away for well over 15 minutes, going back and forth on the mat and in their, proving to be more than an even match for each other. Its a shame that this match was to end in controversial circumstances.
Barreta missed a Dropkick on Taylor, accidentally clipping the ref who was knocked down. Out from the crowd came Kyle Matthews, and he looked to setup someone for the Slurpee Kick. He then nails.....BARRETA! Why would he help a member of The Revolution? Taylor casts a huge scowl at Matthews as he puts his hands up and leaves, and Taylor covers Barreta. 1-2-3!
Winner- New Sunrise Cup Holder, Chuck Taylor
Taylor briefly celebrates, but not for long AS MATTHEWS ATTACKS FROM BEHIND! Matthews locks in the Hidaka Lock and has Taylor wincing on the ground before the referee manages to get him off Taylor. Matthews then gets the microphone
Matthews: Taylor, what I did to you tonight is nothing compared to what I'll do to you next week if you don't challenge for my belt. And next week, when I completely cripple you with the Hidaka Lock and retain my title, Johnny Gargano and everyone else in this company will realise that I'm the ace, I'm the best in the entire world and the only truly hybrid athelete in the NWA!
Matthews raises his arms with belt in hand as the fans boo, and Taylor lies on the mat in agony, his win completely tainted by Matthews' actions
