NWA Hybrid Pro TV Results 06/10/2012
Out come The Revolution to start the show, lead by the now double champion Johnny Gargano, who holds the NWA World Junior Heavyweight and NWA East Coast X titles. Chuck Taylor also has a mass of bandages covering his shoulder and upper arm following the re-aggravation of his injury last week.
Gargano: The Revolution continues to prove why it is the most dominant faction in wrestling today. We added another title to our list of achievements when I beat Paul London for the NWA East Coast X Division Title, a belt that I will defend with the same level of consistency as the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Title. And we have our sights set on more gold. But before we can get to the gold, we have another problem to take care of, that problem being a thing called The Antichrists. Thats why tonight, we are gong to try and solve this problem once and for all. We challenge The Antichrists to a 10 man tag team match right here, in the main event, tonight!
The fans explode for that, they really want to see the match. But before anything can be confirmed, out comes Kyle Matthews, the NWA Hybrid Pro Heavyweight Champion.
Matthews: Yet again Johnny, your trying to steal my spotlight. Last week, while you were away lounging in Japan, I was busting my ass in the main event, defending this belt. And now you think you can just walk back in here and take all the glory for yourself again. I'm the champ Gargano, and now that I've been in the main event, I'm not going back to the undercard so you can run the show again!
Gargano: Kyle, why don't you just go away and stop your whining. In case you didn't realise it, last week I was defending my NWA World Junior Heavyweight Title with the honour and respect it deserves, because I respect the tradition of the NWA and want to make this belt the most valuable in all of wrestling. But those aren't qualities you have nor value Kyle. No, all you have is jealousy, your jealous of me Kyle, that I hold one of the biggest and best titles in professional wrestling today, while all you have is a belt that Cibernetico kept in a trash can, that will never have the value of a World title. You know I deserve to be on top Kyle, and that eats you up inside, and thats why you've become the most annoying asshole in all of wrestling!
Matthews is fuming as the fans chant "asshole" at him. Cibernetico and The Antichrists come out next.
Cibernetico: This is all well and good, but isn't solving any problems, mainly the problem of your existence Gargano. We, The Antichrists accept your challenge, and tonight when we win we will kill off The Revolution once and for all time. Then nothing will stop the Digital Era from becoming a reality!
It looks like despite Matthews's protests, the main event tonight will be The Revolution vs The Antichrists in a ten man tag team match!
Here are the brackets for the 4 Open Rules Title tournament first round matches tonight-
Open Rules Title Tournament First Round Match
Paul Burchill vs ACH
ACH got an unlucky draw here, facing a man on a mission on Burchill who took things into his own hands last week, destroying Takashi Sugiura in RSR, and he showed that same level on destruction in this match. ACH did manage to hit a few high risk moves, which was impressive considering how focused Burchill is right now, but Burchill largely dominated, winning with the C4.
Winner- Paul Burchill
Open Rules Title Tournament First Round Match
Wade Barrett vs Rich Swann
Swann faired a bit better than his tag partner did in this match, going a bit more toe to toe with Barrett thanks to his high risk style. However Barrett displayed a new focus here that we haven't seen out of him in the past, not to mention a more fist based style, he threw a lot of big right hands that really dazed Swann. Barrett then debuted a move he calls the Souvenir, a single arm Straight Jacket followed with a massive knockout Elbow to the head, that lead to Swann being knocked out. The Barrett Barrage is under way!
Winner- Wade Barrett
We see footage of John Morrison viewing some of Japan's most famous landmarks, and training in the Rising Sun dojo. Morrison has decided to temporarily move over to Japan to receive additional training, as well as compete in RSR, to help his completely refocus and find his place in the NWA. Expect Morrison to be back competing in Hybrid Pro in the near future.
Open Rules Title Tournament First Round Match
James Storm vs Drew McIntyre
Definitely the most intriguing of the first round matches, these two are two early favourites for the tournament, and one of them was going to end up heart broken at the end of this match Storm has had somewhat of a career revival in recent weeks, and has a win over his two potential semi final opponents, but McIntyre was looking focused as well, as this ended up being a mixture of mat wrestling and out and out brawling from both. Storm then got McIntyre up for the Eye of the Storm, but McIntyre flipped out, grabbed Storm and nailed the Future Shock, and scored what some would call an upset victory!
Winner- Drew McIntyre
Post match Storm shook McIntyre's hand, and left saying to himself "I got complacent, I need to do better" as McIntyre celebrated.
Open Rules Title Tournament First Round Match
"The Man Beast" Rhino vs Samuray Del Sol
Del Sol held him own with Rhino in the 3 way match last week, and again he managed to hold his own, faring the best of the 3 more inexperience hopefuls in this tournament with his high risk style. Rhino however had masses of intensity and power, and at times made domination of this match look too easy. This almost came back to haunt him though as Del Sol got a few rollups out of nowhere that nearly pinned "The Man Beast", only for Rhino to nail another GORE!!!! that almost killed Del Sol, and got the 3 count easily. He could have been out for a 100 count.
Winner- Rhino
The semi finals will be as follows-
The Worlds Greatest Tag Team (Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin) vs The Stampede Bulldogs (Harry Smith and Tyson Kidd)
Both these teams have had mixed fortunes in Hybrid Pro so far, both having had as many losses as they have had victories. Yet this didn't affect their wrestling skill, they looked just as sharp and as focused as ever here, putting on one hell of a tag match even if it was quite short at under 10 minutes. And The Bulldogs ended up pulling out a huge win, forcing TWGTT to continue their losing ways, with Harry pinning Haas after the Hart Attack.
Winner- The Stampede Bulldogs
Jeff Hardy w/Rob Van Dam vs Joey Matthews w/Michael Shane
Not just a battle of two tag team specialists here, but a battle of two former OMEGA talents, these two definitely have history against each other. And it was quite a good match, since while Hardy got high with his high flying moves (and on weed before the match), Matthews took a more ground based approach and tried to slow down the pace a bit. Matthews's plan worked to some extent, but there is only so long that you can keep Hardy down, and he was soon flying off the top again with more high risk moves. Shane then tried to get involved in the match, but RVD took him down off the apron with a kick and the two started brawling. Hardy then nailed the Twist of Weed followed by the Weed Bomb to secure a big win ahead of their title shot next week.
Winner- Jeff Hardy
Open Rules Title Tournament Semi Final Match
Paul Burchill vs Wade Barrett
A nasty, hard hitting matchup here, with Burchill's power once again being utterly overwhelming, impressively so considering Barrett is actually taller than Burchill. Barrett however had those massive, dangerous right hands that knocked Burchill loopy, and certainly was able to match if not better Burchill in an out and out fist fight thanks to that bare knuckle boxing background. Things were to take surprise twist however when as Burchill was taking control and getting ready for that C4, Kazuchika Okada ran out to the ring. He nails Burchill with a German Suplex as the referee was distracted checking on Barrett. Barrett looked confused but covered Burchill, 1-2-3!
Winner- Wade Barrett
Okada was obviously getting revenge here for Burchill laying him out with a C4 during his attack on Takashi Sugiura at last week's RSR show. And it has just been announced that next week at Octoberfest, Paul Burchill will go one on one with Okada!
Open Rules Title Tournament Semi Final Match
Drew McIntyre vs "The Man Beast" Rhino
McIntyre was looking for what some may call another upset if he advanced in this match, especially considering he had a very hard fought first round match with James Storm while Rhino had things a bit easier with Samuray Del Sol. And Rhino was a bit more in control in this one it had to be said, again using that raw power and intensity to control things, while McIntyre looked to take Rhino to the mat and keep him grounded. Rhino despite his control of the match ended up making a mistake, going for the GORE!!! but seeing McIntyre move out of the way, causing him to Spear the ringpost. McIntyre quickly nailed the Future Shock and that saw McIntyre advance again against another difficult opponent.
Winner- Drew McIntyre
So next week at Octoberfest, Drew McIntyre and Wade Barrett will go one on one to decide who becomes the first NWA Hybrid Pro Open Rules Champion!
Scott Hudson is backstage with Sheamus "Fella"
Hudson: Sheamus, this is going to be a difficult question to ask, but it is one I have to ask as an impartial broadcaster. Last week you cost John Cena his match with Cibernetico, and this has lead some people to accuse you of being in legion with Cibernetico and The Antichrists. What were your reasons for what yo did last week?
Sheamus: While I understand why ya had to ask that fella, I'm not dignifying the accusation with a response, other than I've always done things my way fella and would never play second fiddle to Cibernetico and his minions. My attack on John Cena last week was purely to send a message after he smashed a bottle of Guinness over my head, he had to know that I won't stand back and let him get away with something like that. Plus he cost me some good Guinness, nobody does that and gets away with it fella.
Hudson: OK, I can accept that Sheamus and I won't pursue that line of questioning further. What I will ask is that tonight you team with Randy Orton, a man who is very difficult to trust for obvious reasons. Whats your view on teaming with The Viper?
Sheamus: I have no problems with Orton fella, he's a great wrestler on a mission. We both have common enemies tonight, and once we win and kick the arses of Damien Sandow and John Cena, we can have a beer bash. Then at Octoberfest, he can kick Sandow's arse and I'll do the same to Cena, and we will share some Guinness's after the show fella.
Hudson: Thanks for your time Sheamus, lets head to the ring for your match.
John Cena and Damien Sandow vs Randy Orton and Sheamus "Fella"
Two very different teams here to say the least, as this was a preview match for two very intriguing single matches next week at Octoberfest, those being Damien Sandow vs Randy Orton and John Cena vs Sheamus. Both teams worked pretty well together surprisingly, with Orton and Sheamus showing good team work, and Sandow was able to get Cena to do his bidding, Cena being cold and ruthless with the way he went after Sheamus and indeed Orton. Sandow picked his spots when Orton was down, but got out of there anytime Orton looked like he was recovering. Orton made the tag to Sheamus, who cleaned how in typical "Fella" fashion, and then setup for the Brogue Kick on Sandow. Sandow however pulled Orton in the way and Sheamus nailed him with the Brogue Kick by accident! Cena then tackled Sheamus and Sandow cartwheeled into a one footed cover, 1-2-3, Damien Sandow just pinned Randy Orton!
Winners- John Cena and Damien Sandow
Afterwards Sheamus and Orton argued, with Sheamus assuring Orton it was unintentional while Sandow got out of there and celebrated, and Cena showed a look of utter distain and coldness to Sheamus before leaving. ORTON RKO'S SHEAMUS! Orton then leaves and you have to feel sorry for Sheamus a bit at the moment, nobody seems to believe he isn't in cahoots with Cibernetico in some way. Then again, you can never trust a viper!
The Revolution (Johnny Gargano, Adam Cole, Kyle O'Reilly, Jack Swagger and Chuck Taylor) vs The Antichrists (Cibernetico, "The Baddest Man on the Planet" Brock Lesnar, Jon Moxley, Shinsuke Nakamura and Hirooki Goto)
About as chaotic a match as you would expect out of these two factions, this was wild and intense, yet the wrestling was of top quality as well, it was a compelling spectacle. The big theme of this match ended up being Chuck Taylor vs Hirooki Goto, as the second Taylor got tagged in, The Antichrists ruthlessly targeted that injured arm, with Goto utterly picking it apart with submissions and strikes, and the rest ripping the bandages off the arm, choking Taylor with them, and even taking a chair to his arm at one point. Taylor refused to quit though and the fans rallied behind him, as he somehow escaped the clutches of Brock Lesnar of all people to make the tag to all of his Revolution team mates, who cleaned house. The brawl started to get out of control as the referee tried to restore order, and when this was going on, Kyle Matthews ran out to the ring with a chair. He smashes Taylor in his bad arm with it! Taylor writhes on the canvas in agony as Matthews runs off, and Goto gets in the ring. He locks in the Shoryu Kekkai! Taylor has utterly no choice but to tap out, with that arm likely broken!
Winners- The Antichrists
Goto refuses to let go of the hold as Taylor is helpless, his arm being snapped like a twig, and the rest of The Revolution can do nothing as The Antichrists demolish them at ringside. Lesnar gets Swagger up, AND PUTS HIM THROUGH THE ANNOUNCERS TABLE WITH AN F5! Cibernetico grabs Cole and O'Reilly and drops them with a double Garra Cibernetica! And Moxley and Nakamura both deliver Bona Ye's to Gargano, bloodying the champion. Goto still hasn't let go of Taylor, who has passed out from the pain, and the show ends with The Antichrists posing as Goto is still ripping that arm apart!
