Well, this is it, this may be the last special that I ever write. I do think i will be able to stay and write a show every week for a while, but I won't be able to write to the depth I have here again I expect. This took me almost a week of weekday evenings plus most of this morning to plan and write, so I hope that its appreciated and given some kind of feedback, as I have tried to make this a special event.
NWA Hybrid Pro TV Special: Octoberfest 13/10/2012
Hello and welcome to Octoberfest, NWA Hybrid Pro's latest TV special. With lots of outside involvement on tonight's show, this is sure to be one hell of an event.
Before we can even get started, here comes Kyle Matthews, and he does not look a happy man. He grabs the microphone out of the ring announcer hand and shoves him to the canvas.
Matthews: Yet again Gargano, yet again you get the preferential treatment. For those of you who saw the provisional card for this show, I was scheduled to be in the main event tonight, defending my belt against Chris Hero of Great Lakes. But what happens? Johnny Gargano wins himself another little title belt, and suddenly my match is going on second last to stroke Gargano's ego some more. Well I'm sick of it, and I'm not going to stand for this anymore. I'm going to sit in this ring, and not let this show get started until John Laurinaitis gets out here and puts me back where I belong, in the main event!
John Laurinaitis comes out as Matthews sits in the ring in a chair.
Laurinaitis: Now Kyle, as much as I'd love to stick you back in the main event, I can't take that risk with your recent behaviour. In addition, Johnny Gargano and Rockstar Spud have both held the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Title, a match between them for that belt as well as the NWA East Coast X Title is a big match. I therefore request that you get out of the ring and let the show progress, before I have you thrown out.
Matthews: You'd like that, wouldn't you Laurinaitis, you'd like me thrown out of the building so I can't run your little TV special. Well you know what Laurinaitis, throw me out. Because if you do, I'm taking this belt with me and never coming back. Lets see you try and make people watch this bullshit without me, the most hybrid wrestler in the NWA, and the best god dam wrestler on this planet!
The fans boo and start chanting "asshole" at Matthews.
Matthews: Oh so you agree with Laurinaitis do you? You people make me sick, I come out here and bust my ass every night to entertain you, and you throw it back in my face by cheering for a suit. Well I'm sick of you all, you people should be ashamed of yourself. Goodbye Hybrid Pro, I'm leaving and taking this belt with....
Before he can do anything, CHRIS HERO ATTACKS FROM BEHIND! He must have come out of the crowd. Laurinaitis calls for the bell, the title match is under way right now!
NWA Hybrid Pro Heavyweight Title Match
"The Only Truly Hybrid Athlete in the NWA" Kyle Matthews vs Chris Hero
Hero is going straight for the kill, HERO'S WELCOME! 1-2-MATTHEWS GETS HIS FEET ON THE ROPES! Hero came so close, and he is going all out here, he utterly takes the fight to Matthews who is completely off his game, doing anything he can to get away from Hero and regain his composure. Hero misses a charge into the corner however and smacks his shoulder into the turnbuckle, allowing Matthews an opening, as he works on that arm of Hero with real aggression, taking out his frustration on the arm. Hero's arm takes a lot of punishment as Matthews is looking to snap it, but Hero gets a massive Forearm out of nowhere that busts Matthews wide open. hero fight back by going after that cut, and LOCKS IN THE HANGMANS CLUTCH! Matthews can't escape, and his only way out was to grab the referee and toss him into Hero. The referee refuses to disqualify Matthews, as Hero goes for a Discus Boot. He misses and MATTHEWS LOCK IN THE HIDAKA LOCK! Hero goes to the canvas and can't escape, his arm is hurting too much. HE TAPS!
Winner- Kyle Matthews
Matthews isn't letting go, he's trying to break Chris Hero's arm! That is until Johnny Gargano run out and chases him off, before security grab Matthews and throw him out of the building! Looks like we won't be seeing anymore of him tonight.
Hybrid Pro vs Great Lakes Single Match
Alex Shelley (Great Lakes) vs James Storm (Hybrid Pro)
This was a great back and forth opener, as these two have great chemistry together and put on a great show of technical wrestling. Shelley was definitely the more proficient on the mat of the two, he wowed the fans with his wide variety of submissions, while Storm countered this through pure brawling, throwing big rights, and also using his size and power advantage to toss Shelley around. Shelley went for Sliced Bread #2, but Storm caught him, and managed to turn that into the Eye of the Storm, which kept Shelley down for a 3 count.
Winner- James Storm
Grudge Match
Paul Burchill vs Kazuchika Okada
Okada interfered against Burchill during his Open Rules Title Tournament semi final match against Wade Barrett, leading to him losing that match, which in turn was retribution for the C4 that Burchill gave him in Japan during his brutal assault on Takashi Sugiura. And Burchill was not in any kind of mood to let Okada get any more retribution, he utterly demolished Okada here, hitting move after move, beating and bloodying him as to send a message to Takashi Sugiura. In fact such was the level of brutality, after 3 C4's in a row, the referee stepped in to try and stop him. Burchill replied by C4'ing the referee, and that lead to an instant DQ for Burchill, who didn't care.
Winner- Kazuchika Okada by DQ
Burchill continued the assault, grabbing a chair and smacking Okada with it several times on the ground, then placed the chair under him and delivered a Standing Shooting Star. Burchill then pulled Okada's head up and said "Sugiura, what I did to Okada tonight is nothing compared to what I'll do to you for costing me a shot at contendership to the Grand Championship. Get ready for pain like you've never experienced before, because The Ripper is going to rip you apart limb from limb!"
Damien Sandow vs Randy Orton
Sandow has been avoiding a match with Orton for weeks, ever since The Group ended pretty much, and now finally had to face Orton one on one in the ring. Orton has been utterly relentless in his pursuit of Sandow, to the extent Sandow had to take out a restraining order that failed when Orton tore it up and attacked his bodyguards. Sandow wanted no part of Orton, running away and doing anything he could to escape Orton, but there was no escape this time around. Orton gave Sandow the beating he's been trying to give him all this time, and even Sandow's begs for mercy didn't stop Orton. Finally Sandow tried to run away and take a countout loss, but Sheamus appeared on the ramp, grabbed Sandow and threw him back in the ring. Sheamus then got in the ring, AND NAILED THE BROGUE KICK ON ORTON! I guess thats retribution for last week's RKO, Sandow covers, 1-2-3, I cannot believe that Sandow has won this.
Winner- Damien Sandow
Sandow celebrates with a cartwheel, and mocks Orton by copying his setup pose for the RKO, looking to hit the Terminus. Orton was playing possum however, RKO! Orton gets some revenge, but not the win he seeked, now he will want a piece of Sheamus. And this isn't even touching on the doubts on Sheamus and his motives that have been talked about recently, this will have only added fuel to the fire that he's in league with Cibernetico.
Contention on the Line
Hirooki Goto vs Chuck Taylor
Taylor has his arm heavily bandaged, even more so that last week, after Goto nearly broke it with the Shoryu Kekkai, as Goto has targeted Taylor for being the supposed weak link in The Antichrists. And early on, it seemed like Goto was maybe correct, he controlled this match with ease by targeting that arm injury, and really bending the rules: he ripped off the bandages and choked Taylor with them, threw Taylor arm first into the ringpost and the guardrail, and even used he timekeepers hammer on it at one point behind the referee's back. But Taylor utterly refused to quick, fighting back every now and then with quick bursts of offence, before Goto nailed the arm again to keep him down. And it looked to be all over, as Goto locked in the Shoryu Kekkai, the move that damn near broke Taylor's arm last week. The crowd were to play a part though in an utterly remarkable fightback however, as with Taylor nearly passing out from the pain they rallied behind the young star, begging for him to get up. At the last second, Taylor lifted his arm before it dropped the third time, managed to get up and drop Goto with an Awful Waffle out of nowhere. Taylor fought back with emotion and fire like we've never seen out of him, and no shots to the arm could stop him! Goto begged for mercy, but Taylor wasn't giving him any, firing away with right hand after right hand and screaming at the top of his voice as he did it! He grabs Goto and nails another Awful Waffle! 1-2-NO, Goto kicks out somehow. CROSS CRAB! Goto yells and yells with pain, and GOTO TAPS, TAYLOR WINS!!!
Winner- Chuck Taylor
What an utterly amazing win for Taylor, a massive upset as Chuck Taylor has cost Hirooki Goto his contendership to the Grand Championship. Taylor celebrates before getting out of there, making sure Goto cant' go after that arm again.
Cibernetico and Shinsuke Nakamura then makes their way out, ignoring Taylor as they walked past. He gets into the ring and grabs Goto by the throat. GARRA CIBERNETCIA! He shouts that Goto is useless to him now that he doesn't have the contendership and is gone. Nakamura however protests, saying that he won't stand by and let Cibernetico disrespect a fellow countyman and friend. GARRA CIBERNETICA TO NAKAMURA! Cibernetico says he is gone to, and tells them to go back to Japan and fail like the weaklings that they are!
Jon Moxley then comes out and points the finger gun at Cibernetico, saying that if Nakamura goes, he goes! Cibernetico shouts at Moxley that they don't need Nakamura holding them back, they can be stronger without him. Moxley look at Cibernetico and then look at Nakamura, and put away the finger gun, AND SPITS ON NAKAMURA! The arena goes dark and Cibernetico and Moxley pose in the green spotlight.
Hybrid Pro vs Great Lakes Tag Team Match
The Stampede Bulldogs (Harry Smith and Tyson Kidd) vs The Strong and the Black (Tyler Black and Roderick Strong)
Two teams here with a lot of talent, this was a fantastic tag team match. It was a great combination of hard hitting and technical, with both teams masters of matwork, while Strong and Smith had some hard hitting exchanges, and Kidd and Black had a bit of an aerial display in there to. When it came to pure team work, The Bulldogs definitely had the advantage due to the many years they have been teaming, The Strong and the Black couldn't compete in that regard. However when it came to being one on one in the ring, both Strong and Black were more accomplished due to primarily being singles stars, and thats when they looked at their best. And when the match broke down, that is what became decisive, as it ended up being Strong and Kidd left in the ring. Strong took Kidd down to the canvas with a Choke Breaker, and then locked in the Strong Hold to make Kidd tap.
Winners- The Strong and the Black
Both teams shook hands post match, indicating that they have a lot of respect for one another after this very hard fought matchup.
The Antichrists (Cibernetico and Jon Moxley) vs The Revolution (Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly)
The Antichrists still didn't look like an entirely cohesive unit here, Moxley was obviously still a bit annoyed about what happened despite his apparent betrayal of Nakamura. And in many ways this was a good thing for The Revolution, while they are former World Tag Team Champions and a fantastic team, Cibernetico and Moxley were very dangerous opposition, and that lack of cohesion was needed for The Revolution to take control. However when Cibernetico got in there, his power was simply scary, and Cole and O'Reilly couldn't keep up, and Moxley's head games and mat skills were difficult to deal with as Cole got isolated. O'Reilly managed to get a hot tag and did his best in there, but Cibernetico took him down with a massive boot the face. Cibernetico held back O'Reilly for a Boma Ye from Moxley, but O'Reilly moved and Moxley hat Cibernetico, sending him out of the ring to the floor. O'Reilly then locked in the Anklelock on Moxley, AND HE TAPS!
Winners- The Revolution
The Revolution, much like Chuck Taylor earlier on, got out of there fast before Cibernetico could get back in the ring, a look of massive frustration on his face. Moxley gets back to his feet, only for CIBERENTICO TO GRAB HIM BY THE THROAT! GARRA CIBERNETICA! Cibernetico then says Moxley is gone, and The Antichrists are going to rebuild itself from the ground up, with he and Brock Lesnar recruiting the very best. He promises next week that The Antichrists will become a force unlike anyone has seen in professional wrestling before, and that the Digital Era will truly begin.
Street Fight
Sheamus "Fella vs John Cena
Despite the attack on Randy Orton earlier in the show, the fans were still cheering Sheamus, such is their dislike for the current cold, ruthless incarnation of John Cena. And this one was one hell of a brawl, at times extremely violent in its nature which is maybe something you would expect of Sheamus, but not so much of Cena who displayed a vicious side in this one. Both men threw some massive chair shots, including Cena utterly caving in the skull of Sheamus multiple times, bloodying the Irishman, and at one point Cena grabbed the ring bell and hat Sheamus with a charging shot that knocked him loopy. Sheamus is as tough as nails however and fought back, smashing a bottle of Guinness over Cena's head and destroying him with a chairshot, then grabbed a table from outside and set it up. Before he could anything though, RANDY ORTON APPEARS FROM THE CROWD! RKO! Orton gets his own back as Cena struggles to his feet. Cena slowly lifts the limp Sheamus up off the canvas and prepares for the Attitude Adjustment through the table. But Sheamus somehow slips out. BROGUE KICK KNOCKS CENA THROUGH THE TABLE! Sheamus covers, 1-2-3!
Winner- Sheamus
I'm not sure how Sheamus managed to win this one, but he did and you have to give full credit to him for that. His motives may be in question, but you can't deny that "Fella" knows how to get it done in the ring.
"The Baddest Man on the Planet" Brock Lesnar vs Jack Swagger
A battle of the two powerhouses in their respective factions, Lesnar has targeted Swagger ever since his return to Hybrid Pro. But this one wasn't just a match of power, it was a match of wrestling to, with both of these men having a background in amateur wrestling it was always going to have some matwork in there to which it most certainly did. Lesnar's power was overwhelming, but he certainly didn't dominate this match in the slightest, it was as even a contest as Lesnar has had in the NWA, and Swagger pushed him to his limits. Indeed Swagger almost won this following a Doctor Bomb out of nowhere, but Lesnar managed to somehow kick out. Lesnar then lifted Swagger up for the F5, but Swagger kicked out of the move! Lesnar was stunned by that, but it also only served to piss him off more. He pick up Swagger, and POWERBOMBS HIM THROUGH THE RING, HOLY SHIT!!! The crowd chant along those lines as Lesnar admires his handiwork and pulls what is left of Jack Swagger out from the hole in the canvas, the 3 count is academic.
Winner- Brock Lesnar
If this is any indication of what Brock Lesnar will do to win a match, the entire NWA could very well be on notice, and with The Antichrists set to make itself stronger next week, they could truly become the most unstoppable force the NWA has ever seen.
We have a 10-15 minute intermission as the ring crew quickly repair the canvas ahead of the rest of the show.
NWA Hybrid Pro Open Rules Title Tournament Final
Drew McIntyre vs Wade Barrett
Drew McIntyre won hard fought matches against James Storm and Rhino to reach the final, while Barrett overcome Rich Swann and Paul Burchill (albeit with help from Kazuchika Okada) to get here. This was a battle of two men who still consider themselves allies, despite The United Nations team they formed taking a backseat. But despite the fact this match was wrestled with a great deal of respect, there was certainly no loveloss here, both men gave their utter all and at times it was a wild brawl between two men who know how to fight as well as wrestle. Barrett threw those big right hands that have served him so well through this tournament so far, while McIntyre threw some punches and forearms of his own, but took a more grounded approach and tried to keep Barrett on the canvas. Following nearfalls with the Wasteland from Barrett and the Future Shock from McIntyre, Barrett threw a massive punch that knocked McIntyre loopy, and followed it with the Souvenir, and that finally got Barrett the pinfall and the title.
Winner- Wade Barrett
Barrett celebrates as Lenny Leonard gets into the ring to present the title to Barrett as well as find out the stipulation for his title matches.
Leonard: Wade, congratulations on your victory here tonight, and your first singles title win in Hybrid Pro. As you know, the Open Rules title must be defended with a set stipulation that you choose. What stipulation do you choose for your matches defending this title.
Barrett: Well as you know Lenny, I am a fighter, I always have been and always will be. In my younger days I fought in bare knuckle boxing, where you had to fight to survive and avoid that knockout blow at all costs. And that is something I want to bring to professional wrestling, the art of not just winning a match or pinning an opponent, but knocking them out. Because you know when you see your opponent lying on the canvas, lights out on the canvas, that you were most definitely the better man, and that you didn't just get lucky. That's why I will be defending my belt in matches with only one stipulation to them: you can only win the match by knockout!
Quite a stipulation, and considering how tough Wade Barrett is, he could very well be holding onto that belt for a long time to come.
Scott Hudson is backstage with Rob Van Dam and Jeff Hardy, Team Weed!
Hudson: Team Weed, tonight you take on The Showstealers as you look to be crowned the new Hybrid Pro Tag Team Champions. What are your thoughts on this big match tonight?
Hardy (to RVD): Dude, is this guy like talking to me and stuff?
RVD: Your so wasted dude, I'll do the talking. So we are like totally ready for the match and stuff tonight.
Before anything else can be asked in this enthralling interview, The Token Black Team interrupt.
ACH: Now I know that you two won that number one contendership fair and square, but it clear that your in no condition to compete tonight!
Swann: Thats why you should hand over the contention to a real tag team, a team of excellence and talent!
ACH: Not just the greatest tag team in the world today, but the best tag team in wrestling history!
Swann: ACH!
ACH: Rich Swann!
Swann + ACH: The Token Black Team!
Swann and ACH both pose in an over the top ridiculous fashion as Team Weed and Scott Hudson look confused.
RVD: Dude, didn't we like beat these guys and stuff. And now they claim to be the greatest team ever.
Hardy: I think they're higher than us man.
RVD: They must be dude, lets go win some belts then use the money to buy some meth.
Team Weed leave as The Token Black Team are still frozen in position, who knows how long they will stand there for.
NWA Hybrid Pro Tag Team Title Match
The Showstealers (Joey Matthews and Michael Shane) vs Team Weed (Jeff Hardy and Rob Van Dam)
Team Weed may like to get high on weed before their matches, but that didn't make them any lesser an opposition for The Showstealers to deal with, as they got high in a whole different way with their aerial manoeuvres. The Showstealers while usually a more flashy, aerial team took to the mat in this instance, trying to ground the high flying duo and slowen the pace. Their strategy definitely did pay off in the long run, as while Team Weed had much of the early going in the match, The Showstealers came more and more into it as the match went on. Team Weed fought back near the end however and got some big near falls, including Shane breaking up a pinfall from Hardy on Matthews following the Weed Bomb, and Matthews getting his foot on the ropes after the 5 Star Weed Splash by RVD. The Showstealers managed to hit their Showstealing Double Elbow on RVD and pinned him to retain their titles.
Winners- The Showstealers
CPW Heavyweight Title Match
Alberto Del Rio vs "The Man Beast" Rhino
This is a rematch from the joint NWA East Coast/California Pro iPPV a few months ago, with Rhino having earned a shot at the title by defeating Del Rio in that match. Del Rio is still fuming about that loss, and was aggressive here, going after the arm of Rhino with efficiency and slowly but surely picking it apart. Rhino however was as intense as he always is, and definitely seemed to have Del Rio's number, getting a lot of near falls here. Indeed, had it not been for the ropes, Del Rio would have fallen to the GORE!!!! Out of nowhere Del Rio got the Enziguri as Rhino was setting up another charge, then he locked in the Cross Armbreaker that forced Rhino to tap out, evening things up with Rhino.
Winner- Alberto Del Rio
Del Rio went up the ramp celebrating with his title, as Rhino got up and then challenged Del Rio to one more match to once and for all decide who the better man is, anytime and anyplace he wants it. Del Rio didn't answer and just left. Will we see the rubber match between these two?
NWA World Junior Heavyweight and NWA East Coast X Division Title Match
Johnny Gargano vs Rockstar Spud
This is a huge opportunity for Spud, not only is this the rematch that he never had for the World Junior Heavyweight Title, but it also gives him a chance to make an impact in NWA East Coast and win their X belt. Spud proved to be an even match for Gargano, as while Gargano had a size advantage that allowed him to toss Spud around, and indeed had an advantage on the mat, Spud was the faster of the two and was willing to take just about any chance that was necessary to get him that belt back. Spud got possibly the closest near fall anyone's gotten on Gargano yet, coming off the top with the 5 Stone Spud Splash, with Gargano kicking out at the last possible second. Spud took one chance too many though when he went for another, and Gargano moved. Gargano then managed to hit the Hurts Donut, and pin Spud to retain his title.
Winner- Johnny Gargano
As Gargano celebrated, KYLE MATTHEWS COMES OUT OF THE CROWD! Gargano sees him however and the two brawl back and forth as the crowd come to their feet, the two finally battling in the ring. Gargano misses a charging Forearm, and MATTHEWS LOCKS IN THE HIDAKA LOCK! Gargano escapes though, AND NAILS THE HURTS DONUT! Matthews is finally given a taste of his own medicine as he lies on the canvas! Gargano grabs his titles, then grabs Matthews's Hybrid Pro Heavyweight Title, and mouths to the camera "Triple Champion", indicating that he might want to try and take that belt away from Matthews. The show ends with Gargano celebrating with his two titles.
