This is just a quick show to get something written, its nothing special, but with it being the first show for the new direction I'm taking, I would appreciate any feedback that is given.
Also wanted to state that to add some real unpredictability to my tournament, barring NWA World title matches, every single match and decision in my promotion is made via random generator.
NWA NEXT: A Hybrid Beginning
NEXT owner Magnus D comes out to start the show. He announces that NEXT isn't a promotion about champions or money, its a promotion about showcasing the newest, most exciting young talent in professional wrestling today. And to start things right the promotion is to have a Hybrid tournament. It will begin with a 24 man battle royal, but with a twist: if you eliminate someone from the battle royal, you advance in the tournament and leave the ring along with the eliminated wrestler. The 12 remaining talents then face off in singles matches, with the final being a 3 way dance.
Magnus also announces that Johnny Gargano will not be in the tournament, as he will be defending his NWA World Junior Heavyweight Title against Kota Ibushi tonight!
Battle Royal participants: ACH, Adam Cole, Alex Shelley, AR Fox, Bo Dallas, Bray Wyatt, Chris Sabin, Chuck Taylor, Curt Hawkins, Damien Sandow, Drew McIntyre, Harry Smith, Jack Swagger, Katsuhiko Nakajima, Kyle Matthews, Kyle O'Reilly, La Sombra, Luke Gallows, Rich Swann, Richie Steamboat, Samuray Del Sol, Trent Barreta, Tyler Black, Zack Sabre Jr
Eliminations in the battle royal went as follows
Adam Cole by Tyler Black (Black dropkicked Cole over the rope)
Chuck Taylor by Jack Swagger (Swagger accidentally Clotheslined his Revolution team mate when aiming for Kyle Matthews. Swagger and Taylor had words afterwards)
Damien Sandow by Kyle Matthews (Matthews pushed Sandow over the top after he crotched himself on the top rope)
La Sombra by Zack Sabre Jr (Sombra missed a charge and Sabre tossed him over)
Luke Gallows by Harry Smith (Smith body pressed Gallows out in impressive fashion)
Bo Dallas by Richie Steamboat (Dallas got knocked out by a charging Steamboat chop)
ACH by Drew McIntyre (McIntyre shoved ACH off the top to the floor)
Bray Wyatt by Alex Shelley (Shelley dumped Wyatt out when he missed a Splash Mountain in the corner)
Curt Hawkins by Kyle O'Reilly (Hawkins fell out after some forceful kicks by O'Reilly)
Katsuhiko Nakajima by Chris Sabin (Sabin Clotheslined Nakajima over)
Trent Barreta by AR Fox (Fox threw himself at Barreta and both were eliminated, but Barreta hit the floor first. Potential controversy as Barreta looks as if he may have landed second from another camera angle)
Rich Swann by Samuray Del Sol (Del Sol nailed a Hurricanrana to take Swann over the top)
The draw for the next round is as follows-
Jack Swagger def Kyle O'Reilly in quite a heated matchup between Revolution team mates, as O'Reilly was annoyed with Swagger for eliminating Chuck Taylor earlier on. O'Reilly nearly made Swagger tap to the Anklelock, but Swagger reversed it into his own Anklelock that made O'Reilly tap out.
Zack Sabre Jr def Samuray Del Sol in a very solid match via submission to a Cross Armbreaker. Both men shook hands afterwards.
Kyle Matthews cut a promo saying that after he win this Hybrid tournament, he will once and for all prove that he truly is the most Hybrid athlete in the entire NWA and the best wrestler on this planet.
In an upset, Richie Steamboat pinned Kyle Matthews to advance. Matthews dominated the majority of the match, but got cocky after a Slurpee Kick and took too long to lock in the Hidaka Lock. Steamboat then out of nowhere nailed the Sling Blade and advanced.
Matthews was not pleased post match, as he grabbed Steamboat and put him in the Hidaka Lock, refusing to let go. Officials ran out and got Matthews off of Steamboat, but the damage may have already been done.
In what must be considered another upset, AR Fox def Harry Smith. Smith using his power and wrestling skill was pretty dominant, but Fox refused to stay down, getting up time and time again and hitting no end of high flying moves. As Smith went for a Running Powerslam, Fox rolled out the back and rolled up Smith to get the 3 count.
Smith looked like he was going to attack Fox post match, but thought better of it and shook his hand instead.
Tyler Black def Chris Sabin in the match of the night so far, this was an excellent, fast paced battle of high flying and technical skill, with both men very even. Black however got the win in the end following God's Last Gift.
Drew McIntyre def Alex Shelley in the final match of the 2nd round, pinning Shelley after a good back and forth battle with the Future Shock.
The semi final are as follows-
Richie Steamboat continued his fairytale run by defeating Tyler Black in another upset, in what was another very good match in this tournament. Steamboat held his own with Black despite his injury, as the two were even on the mat and in the air, with the match coming down to who wanted it more. In the end it was Steamboat, as he hat a big Cross Body off the top to pin Black and head to the final.
Drew McIntyre def Zack Sabre Jr following the Future Shock, in what was one of the weaker matches of the night: these two simply didn't click but the match was still reasonably entertaining.
AR Fox scored arguably the upset of the night, defeating Jack Swagger to advance to the final. Swagger looked a bit flustered by what had happened with his Revolution team mates earlier in the night, and Fox was able to take advance of this, hitting a Backward Frog Splash to pin Swagger clean in the middle of the ring.
So the final in the Hybrid tournament will be Richie Steamboat vs Drew McIntyre vs AR Fox. Not only that, but the tournament final will be an elimination match!
Johnny Gargano def Kota Ibushi in a fantastic match to retain the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Title. Ibushi was a very tough challenger for Gargano, his aerial skill was so difficult to keep up with and Gargano was in trouble on quite a few occasions here. Gargano managed to reel in Ibushi eventually with mat wrestling, keeping his high flying opponent grounded, and managed to nail the Hurts Donut to retain his title.
Drew McIntyre def AR Fox and Richie Steamboat to win the Hybrid Tournament. Steamboat was the first to be eliminated, he looked very tired following the assault earlier in the night by Kyle Matthews, and simply had no gas left in the tank to keep up after pulling out the win over Tyler Black earlier. Fox pinned him after a Springboard Codebreaker. Fox performed admirably, keeping up well with McIntyre, but in the end McIntyre was able to sneak a Future Shock and that was enough to win the match and the tournament.
As a result of this victory, Drew McIntyre will challenge the NWA World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio at our next show. And for finishing runner up, AR Fox will face Johnny Gargano for the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Title!
Join us for our next show: The Scramble Tag Cup! Teams will be randomly drawn and will face off in tag matches, with the final team then wrestling in a singles match to decide the winner. See you next week!
