NWA Entertainment Smackdown 26/12/2012
Welcome to the first episode of NWA Entertainment Smackdown. After an exciting episode of Raw, Smackdown looks to do just the same and entertain all the NWA fans with some quality wrestling action.
Here are the first round matches in the Smackdown Heavyweight Title Tournament first round-
Also on tonight's show, Alex Shelley takes on Michael Shane, Bray Wyatt and Luke Gallows look to "save" someone, Johnny Gargano defends the World Junior Heavyweight Title against Xavier Woods, and Xema Ion faces Trent Barreta. Lets get straight into the action with our opening contest.
Smackdown Heavyweight Title Tournament 1st Round
Tyler Black vs "The Human Highlight Reel" Rey Mysterio
An excellent opening contest between these two talented high flyers, one just getting started in his career while the other is closing in on the end of his. Mysterio still shows all the class in the ring he always has, wowing the fans with his use of the ropes and various springboards and hurricanranas, while Black took a more mat based approach, busting out high flying moves occasionally. Black managed to pull off what some may call an upset by hitting God's Last Gift to pin Mysterio.
Winner- Tyler Black
Post match Mysterio and Black shook hands, then Mysterio left shaking his head.
"The Future of Fashion" Xema Ion vs Trent Barreta
A very fun match between two young stars, albeit this was quite on the short side compared to some of the other matches on the show at a little over 5 minutes. Ion seemed a bit pre-occupied with his hair a lot of the time, and Barreta kept taking advantage of this and fighting back. Ion then used said hairspray, spraying it in the eyes of Barreta, then dropped him with a Gory Bomb to get the 3 count.
Winner- Xema Ion
Out to the ring comes the leader of The Family, Bray Wyatt, alongside his follower, Luke Gallows.
Wyatt: For those unfamiliar, my name is Bray Wyatt, and I am here to save you all. Since my daddy burned in his boat many years ago, I've repented all my sins, so that I don't burn like he did. And unlike all the trash in this audience I know I'm going to heaven. But I'm not heartless, I'm not a cruel man, I'm a kind man, and I want to save you from yourselves, just like I saved Luke Gallows. So thats why tonight I'm going to offer any one of you in this audience the chance to be saved. Step forward, repent your sin, embrace the light and you will be free. Who wants to be saved tonight?
The crowd seem reluctant to get in the ring with Wyatt, and rightfully so. Gallows goes and picks someone out of the audience, a young man.
Wyatt: Whats your name son?
Man: Michael.
Wyatt: Well, "Michael", today is your lucky day, as you are about to be saved. Now I want you to get down on your hands and knees, and shout out "I repent my sin" three times. Only when you do will I let you look up and embrace the light of our saviour.
Michael kneels down before Wyatt and shout out that he repents his sin, then Wyatt signals for him to look up and embrace the light. He does, AND GALLOWS KICKS HIM IN THE HEAD! What the hell, thats an innocent fan! Wyatt laughs and says that he sadly couldn't be saved. Gallows and Wyatt leave as medical staff attend to the downed fan.
Smackdown Heavyweight Title Tournament 1st Round
"The Chosen One" Drew McIntyre vs "The All American American" Jack Swagger
These are two men who in recent times have definitely broken out from the pack, with both being on the end of wins at Fall Brawl and having challenged the World Heavyweight Champion. McIntyre was by far and away the biggest fan favourite in this one, and he went toe to toe with Swagger on the mat, even if Swagger had a definite advantage in that department. McIntyre could brawl to though, and that is what kept him in this contest against the powerful, technical display by Swagger. Kyle Matthews ran out with a chair to help Swagger, and leapt up on the apron as Swagger locked in the Anklelock on McIntyre. McIntyre then reversed and kicked Swagger into Matthews, causing him to hit the chair and knock Matthews down. McIntyre instantly transitioned this into the Future Shock, and stole the victory.
Winner- Drew McIntyre
Matthews and Swagger tried to lay a beating on McIntyre post match, only for Johnny Gargano to run in and make the save. With the Junior Heavyweight Champion able to wrestle on both shows, Matthews and Gargano's rivalry is definitely not over, not by a long shot.
"The Technical Messiah" Alex Shelley vs "The New Franchise" Michael Shane
A showcase of two exciting talents, both of whom have quite a few years experience under their belts now yet still class as young wrestlers to an extent. Shelley had the advantage in many departments here, he was better on the mat, and was also able to take to the air, but Shane was sneaky and was able to bend the rules, in addition to being a better brawler. Shane also had an ego, and posed to the fans when he should have been finishing off Shelley. As a result, Shelley was able to fight back, and nail the Shell Shock to pick up the win.
Winner- Alex Shelley
Post match Shelley said that he wanted Johnny Gargano one on one for the Junior Heavyweight Title next week, and that it was finally his time to break out as a singles wrestler.
We are backstage with Kyle Matthews.
Matthews: Tonight, the most Hybrid Athelete in the entire NWA is all set to beat down and end the career of Harry Smith. Smith, you can never live up to the legacy of your father, your talentless and weak, everything he wasn't. But at least you have the balls to face me. Alberto Del Rio, you didn't answer my challenge. You know why you didn't answer it? Because your a coward, and you don't deserve to call yourself the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. I'm giving you one last chance to answer me, before I come over there to California and personally show how the real way to break someone's arm. So answer me Del Rio, prove your a man, or you will face the full consequences.
Smackdown Heavyweight Title Tournament 1st Round
"The Canadian Bulldog" Harry Smith vs "The Most Hybrid Athelete in the NWA" Kyle Matthews
What a matchup this was, here you had two of the finest young technical wrestlers in the world today, with Smith proving to be more than a match for Matthews on the canvas. And with a power game to throw in their to, Smith dominated a fair portion of this match against Matthews. Matthews however is a smart man and had a lot of tricks up his sleeve, plus had a gameplan, that being to work on the arm of Smith. That plan began to work, with Smith struggling to lift Matthews or put him in holds. Finally things came to a head when Smith went for a Running Powerslam, only for Matthews to slip out into the Hidaka Lock, which forced Smith to tap.
Winner- Kyle Matthews
Matthews refused to let go of the hold, until Smith stood up and threw Matthews off. Mathews ran away at this point, but Smith has proven he won't be bullied like a lot of Matthews's other victims have been.
Lenny Leonard is backstage alongside Sean Waltman.
Leonard: I am here with Sean Waltman. Sean, a lot of people say that your a bit out of place in NWA Entertainment, and that your time has passed. How do you address those critics?
Waltman: I can see why people would say, because Lenny at 40 years old I'm not getting any younger. I've wasted so much of my career on drugs and alcohol, I could have been something but I threw it all away. NWA Entertainment have given me one last chance, one last shot at glory, and I'm not going to waste it. If my career is winding down, I'm going out with a bang, and that starts tonight with Mike Bennett getting a little taste of the X-Factor.
Smackdown Heavyweight Title Tournament 1st Round
"The Prodigy" Mike Bennett vs Sean Waltman
These two couldn't be any more polar opposites of each other. On the one hand Waltman is nearing middle age, and many say he has had his day, while Bennett is seen as the future of the industry by some. And indeed in style they were different to, with Waltman playing to the crowd and taking to the air, while Bennett endured their ire due to his constant posing and bending of the rules. Bennett went for the Box Office Smash, but Waltman got a rollup out of nowhere, 1-2-3, WALTMAN WINS!!!
Winner- Sean Waltman
Nobody would have expected Bennett to lose out here, what a big win for Sean Waltman in his crusade to make a comeback. As a result, he will go on to face Kyle Matthews next week on Smackdown, while Tyler Black battles Drew McIntyre.
NWA World Junior Heavyweight Title Match
"The Whole Shebang" Johnny Gargano vs Xavier Woods
Woods was certainly a different type of challenge for Gargano, with his flashiness and aerial skill proving to be difficult for Gargano to keep up with at times. For the most part however this was a fairly routine matchup for Gargano, who looked good and managed to mostly keep Woods in check on the mat. He then finished him off with the Hurts Donut to retain his title.
Winner- Johnny Gargano
Post match as Gargano celebrated, Alex Shelley came out onto the ramp. He made belt motions around his waist, and promised to take that belt away from Gargano next week on Smackdown.
