NWA Entertainment Smackdown 02/01/13[/u]
Welcome to the very first NWA Entertainment show of 2013, Smackdown. Tonight we have our semi finals in the Smackdown Heavyweight title tournament, plus Johnny Gargano defends both the NWA World Junior and East Coast X Division titles against Alex Shelley and much more.
Out to start the show comes "The Prodigy" Mike Bennett to boos from the fans, looking smug despite his defeat in the 1st round of the Heavyweight Title Tournament last week. Bennett has something to say.
Bennett: While the biggest box office draw in wrestling today may have lost last week, everyone here knows that I am a winner, and winners always rise to the top. Thats why tonight I'm issuing an open challenge to anyone who thinks they can take me down. I don't care who you are, what you are, how big or small you are or whether your a man, woman, child, animal or anything, I just want to prove that I'm the greatest of all time baby. Who's going to answer the call.
The call of Mike Bennett is answered, but its answered by someone that Bennett maybe didn't expect: BROCK LESNAR!!! Bennett looks scared for his life as "The War Machine" walks down to the ring, and Bennett may have bitten off more than he can chew in this one.
Open Challenge
"The Prodigy" Mike Bennett vs "The War Machine" Brock Lesnar
To be fair on Bennett, he put up a better fight than some have against Lesnar, in that he actually got some offense on him. Unfortunately said offense had utterly zero effect on Lesnar, who proceeded to destroy "The Prodigy" the only way he knew how, was unmatchable raw power. One F5 later and Bennett was out for the count.
Winner- Brock Lesnar
3 Way X Showcase
"The Master of the Dark Hadou" Kenny Omega vs Trent Barreta vs "The Future of Fashion" Xema Ion
A quick 5 minute match here, but a very good one as these 3 packed in a lot of high flying action. There was very little in the way of actual mat wrestling here, as instead everyone took to the air and hat moves at speed. And it was Omega who won this little battle, hitting Barreta with the Aoi Shoudou to pin him for the 3 count.
Winner- Kenny Omega
A video plays, showing a speech of Martin Luther King. At the end, the words "the truth shall set you free" are shown, followed by "The truth is revealed next week". What will we see next week?
The Family come out for a tag team match, as they have a line of followers in the front row. Wyatt tells them to "spread the word and relieve them of their sin, so that they to can be saved". Said people head into the audience to do just that as the match begins.
Tag Team Warfare
The Family (Bray Wyatt and Luke Gallows) vs "The Canadian Bulldog" Harry Smith and "The Human Highlight Reel" Rey Mysterio
A quick, yet fun tag team match, as Smith renewed his rivalry with The Family by taking the fight to Gallows and Wyatt. Mysterio also brought his usual speed into the equation, but his small size made him easy pickings for The Family, who isolated him from Smith by tossing him around, with Wyatt near squashing him with a Splash Mountain. Mysterio managed to make the hot tag, with Smith mounting a fightback against the two, including nailing a big Running Powerslam on Gallows. Wyatt took him out of the ring as Mysterio setup for the 619. One of the followers then came out of the crowd and distracted Mysterio, allowing Gallows to recover and hit the Twelth Step on Mysterio to pin him and steal the victory.
Winners- The Family
The Family celebrate, as Wyatt proclaims the follower to "well and truly be saved" and that he will "sit alongside god and himself in the highest steps of heaven". Mysterio on the other hand looks dejected, and leaves on his own, shaking his head as he did last week.
Smackdown Heavyweight Title Tournament Semi Final
"The Chosen One" Drew McIntyre vs Tyler Black
This isn't the first time these two have wrestled, as they stepped foot in the ring together in NEXT, McIntyre winning on that occasion. And Black seemed to have learned from that matchup, not making some of the same mistakes he made last time, as he took McIntyre to the mat more and took less chances, faring better as a result. McIntyre however looked damn good in there, his matwork is as fluid as its ever been, and he can throw punches with the best of them, he's a match for anyone in the NWA right now. And while Black put up a better fight, it wasn't enough as he would fall to the Future Shock once again.
Winner- Drew McIntyre
We cut backstage where Lenny Leonard has caught up with Bray Wyatt.
Leonard: Bray Wyatt, you requested this time. I assume you want to explain why you ran in and attacked Appetite for Destruction at Broken Resolutions.
Wyatt: Lenny, explain is a very big word, and a very powerful one in the right hands. But here's the thing, I don't owe you nor any of the sinners in this audience an explanation of any kind. The business of The Family stays in The Family, but I will say this. The Unholy Trinity share a common vision of how professional wrestling and indeed how the world should be, and because of that they share a common enemy. Anyone who is an enemy of them is an enemy of us!
Leonard: Well thank you for your time Wy.....
Wyatt: I'M NOT DONE YET LEONARD! You see, I have another announcement to make. You see, Smackdown is too full of sinners, and I simply no longer have the time to save all of you. Thats why I have asked for a transfer to Raw, where I can do some truly good work, and save you all from yourselves!
Before our title match begins, we see Austin Aries of NWA East Coast sitting in the audience watching. He is clearly hear to scout Johnny Gargano ahead of their upcoming X-Division Title match at Breaking Point.
NWA World Junior Heavyweight and East Coast X-Division Title Match
"The Whole Shebang" Johnny Gargano vs "The Technical Messiah" Alex Shelley
This was an awesome match, as Shelley proved to arguably be the most difficult opponent Gargano had defended his belt against yet, with Shelley being someone who many feel could challenge for the Heavyweight belt, let alone the Junior one. Indeed in a rare feat, Gargano was actually outmatched on the mat, Shelley was that good that he had a hold and counter hold for everything that Gargano could throw at him. Gargano had to be patient, and made use of the ropes both to throw Shelley into and to springboard from to take him down, as well as using the ringside area and even bending the rules somewhat when required. Shelley came damn close to winning this, getting a 2.999 with the Shellshock, and having Gargano on the brink of tapping to the Border City Stretch, but Gargano escaped that. Austin Aries then decided to get involved, charging the ring as Shelley held Gargano. Aries went for a charging Forearm, only to accidentally hit Shelley instead. Gargano threw Aries out of the ring and quickly hat the Hurts Donut to get 3 and retain his titles.
Winner- Johnny Gargano
Aries comes back in, and he and Gargano have a staredown. Both these men have shown that they can sit on either side of the fence, bending the rules to their own advantage and not really caring whether the fans cheer or boo their actions, and as a result, they are a good match for one another. What will happen when these two step into the ring at Breaking Point?
Smackdown Heavyweight Title Tournament
"The Most Hybrid Athelete in the NWA" Kyle Matthews vs Sean Waltman
I'm sure most people expected this to be a good match, but nobody would have expected the utterly awesome, rollercoaster ride of a match we had here. Matthews also came into this thinking that he would have an easy night, walking through Waltman on his way to the finals, but instead he was arguably pushed further than Johnny Gargano pushed him in NEXT. Matthews was definitely superior on the mat, but Waltman just utterly refused to stay down, he took move after move and kept getting up again and again.
Towards the end Waltman started firing away on Matthews, fighting back and nailed the X-Factor, 1-2-NO! Waltman went for the Buzzkill, but Matthews slipped out into the Hidaka Lock! BUT WALTMAN REVERSES TO THE BUZZKILL! Waltman has Kyle on the ropes, but he escapes out of the ring and starts to run as Waltman chases him around ringside. They get back in the ring only for Matthews to nail the Slurpee Kick. 1-2-NO, WALTMAN KICK OUT AGAIN! Matthews is getting very frustrated, and he goes to the top rope, which he is not known for, ONLY FOR WALTMAN TO NIP UP AND HIT A SUPER X-FACTOR!! 1-2-JACK SWAGGER PULLS THE REF OUT! Dammit, Waltman had this won, and Waltman goes after Swagger as the ref recovers. DOCTOR BOMB ON THE FLOOR BY SWAGGER! He put Waltman and the ref back in the ring, as Matthews crawls over and covers Waltman. 1-2-WALTMAN KICKS OUT!! Swagger can't believe it, and neither can Matthews. HIDAKA LOCK! Waltman struggles, but he's taken so much punishment, ther's utterly no way he can escape this time. WALTMAN TAPS!
Winner- Kyle Matthews
Matthews refuses to let go of the hold, wanting to end Waltman's career here and now, but Drew McIntyre runs down to make the save, running off Matthews and Swagger. As McIntyre helps Waltman to his feet, the fans give him a standing ovation, and while he didn't win, he's earned the respect of every single fan in the audience for the heart he showed here. Sean Waltman's career comeback has begun!
Make sure to join us next week for the Smackdown Heavyweight Title Tournament final between Drew McIntyre and Kyle Matthews, plus much more!
