"FRIDAY NIGHT WAR"
LOCATION: The Wolstein Center, Cleveland, OH
BROADCAST TEAM: Mike Tenay & Scott Hudson
EVENT DATE: March 8, 2013
After the opening, we head down to the announcer's table, where we are greeted by the new announce team of Mike Tenay and Scott Hudson.
Mike Tenay:
Welcome fans to the first edition of Friday Night War, proudly presented by the National Wrestling Alliance and War Zone Wrestling! I'm here in Cleveland's Wolstein Center, alongside my broadcast colleague Scott Hudson, and we're ready to see some big time grudge matches get settled here tonight!
Scott Hudson:
That's right, Mike. I mean, on the final Monday Night War, it was revealed that none other than NWA South Beach champion Christopher Daniels, who's been on unprecedented rampage as of late, was the one who attacked Delirious backstage before the main event; tonight, those two very talented, very driven individuals collide in the main event, and one thing is for sure, it has the potential to be a wrestling clinic.
Mike Tenay:
You'd be hard pressed to find two finer, more experience mat wrestlers than those two, as they are simply two of the most versatile men working in the sport today. However, professional wrestling isn't always about who's more skilled or who's more versatile... sometimes it's just a matter of bloodlust, and no two men have more hatred between each other than Chris Dickinson and BJ Whitmer. Dickinson has been a perpetual thorn in the side of Whitmer, attacking him and calling him out on numerous occasions, Whitmer having no qualms about answering the challenge, chomping at the bit to get at "The Death Machine" and set the record straight!
Scott Hudson:
Dickinson believes Whitmer is a cancer in the business, a shining example of everything wrong with the industry, while Whitmer simply wants to beat some respect into a person who has tried to injure him relentlessly and made his life a living Hell, in some instances. It's knuckle up time here in C-Town, and anything could happen! Oh, what is this...?
"Streets of Pakistan" hits the speakers and out walks Sheik Abdul Bashir! However, he's not in his normal attire, instead wearing a black tank top and black track pants, holding a mic in hand, before hopping in and speaking.
Sheik Abdul Bashir:
At the last show, I had a little match... you see, it was supposed to be my crowning moment, where after all was sad and done, I was finally going to get my chance to shine, on my terms, and defeat the heralded "legend" known as Shane Helms.
Pop for the mention of Helms, but Bashir cuts it off.
Sheik Abdul Bashir:
But no... no, management had to stick their noses into my business, and then another man decided to take matters into his own hand and disrupt the inevitable... cheat me of my moment of glory. That man was no other than the cowardice SABU! Sabu, you've done a good job making all of these fans think you're some kind of a bad ass, some kind of an icon, but to me? YOU'RE NOTHING! You want to cost me my biggest moment, my greatest achievement in this sport, after the years I've put in? After everything I've done, and all it's taken for me to get where I am today? You shit on my dreams, Sabu, not the dreams of some character I created, not the "bad guy" I portrayed to get attention, the shit I did to get my foot in the door... you shit on the dreams of Shawn Daivari, the kid from Minnesota who wanted to be just like you, just like anyone who'd achieved greatness in this business... who'd seen their face on the cover of the magazines, had their names irreversibly etched into the annals of wrestling history. You took that childhood dream, and decided you wanted to try and extinguish it... extinguish my fire, my passion, with a chair to my FACE! Well now, Sabu... now tonight you face the man, ME, and you answer for what you've done, as I pulverize your face with my fists and send you out of this business, ONCE AND FOR ALL!
Daivari throws down the microphone emphatically, storming out of the ring as the fans take in that impassioned speech and buzz about the match to come later tonight. We head backstage where Shane Douglas is standing in with a young man with long black hair who's looking down as "The Franchise" stares into the camera.
Shane Douglas:
Fans, this is Shane Douglas, and tonight I'm standing here ready to talk to a young man who caught my ire recently working a show over in New Jersey with NWA Extreme. I saw something in him there, as he faced a former World champion in Sheamus, and I thought tonight I'd get a word with him before he takes on his opponent tonight in Michael Shane. Why don't you go ahead and tell everyone your name, kid?
The man looks up, staring coldly into the camera.
Man:
I have been known by many names for centuries... but here, I am Azrieal.
Douglas nods, expecting a bit more, perhaps, but he's a professional and going to roll with it.
Shane Douglas:
Well, okay then... and, what exactly does that mean? I'm sorry, I think I missed something.
Azrieal:
Of course you have. Everyone has. I wasn't always this way... a man, of flesh and blood, a weakling. This is my punishment. This is my Hell. I was once revered, the bringer of death and plague, humbling humanity when they dared defy the natural order... defy the Creator. The labor, though, the loyalty... it's tiring, Shane. You'll never know how tiring it is to be nothing more than a slave, devoid of freewill, and once I rebelled, once I expressed my jealousy... jealous of you, the beloved, those who are simply given your forgiveness of a whim, and the gift... the precious gift of freewill... one I showed my disdain, it was then I was condemned to become one of you. Live in your shoes, battle as you do, by the rules of this plane. And I am here to establish my supremacy... to know the plight of man and overcome. To take the opportunity to prove myself, despite the anguish of everything... I am here, in my exile, with the gift of freewill... with forgiveness at my whims. Born into the gutters of Argentina, I've pulled myself up, and am here, now, and to take on a man of privilege in Michael Shane. I will not let tonight go by in vain... tonight, I make my mark on humanity, and my victory will ring throughout eternity. Michael Shane, you will pray for death... and you will suffer as those prayers go unanswered.
Azrieal walks off, leaving Douglas standing, looking a little befuddled.
Shane Douglas:
Uh, well... okay. Let's go to the ring!
"The Exiled Archangel" Azrieal vs. "The Show Stealer" Michael Shane
Michael Shane mocks Azrieal early, backing out of lock up attempts and taunting him. Once these two tied up, Azrieal took him down to the mat and sent Shane scrambling for the ropes. Shane made the ref create some distance and from there took things more seriously. Azrieal would manage to take Shane down to the mat again and lock him up into a Cross Armbar, causing him to go to the ropes. Shane would powder to the outside, but Azrieal caught him with a Dropkick through the ropes, followed by a Springboard Sit-Out Moonsault to the outside! Back in the ring, Azrieal tries to springboard in, but Shane catches him with a Superkick mid-air! Shane hooks the leg, but Azrieal kicks out! Shane gets up, enraged, and tries another Superkick, only to have Azrieal duck it and Springboard off the middle rope, flying backwards and catching him with a Cutter! Shane gets to a knee in a daze and Azrieal rushes from behind, jumping and catching him with a move he calls The Shattering Silence (Glimmering Warlock), hooking the leg and it's all over! Azrieal with an impressive win in a short opener to get the crowd going.
Mike Tenay:
Azrieal using almost an Inverted Shining Wizard there to overcome Michael Shane! Shane might have a concussion after that impact!
Scott Hudson:
This guy may have a screw loose or two, but man, was that effective! Konks him with the kick to the back of the head and it's nap time for the "Show Stealer"! Maybe next time, Shane...
Chris Hero vs. "The War King" Eddie Kingston
Hero and Kingston are no strangers to one another, and this match had a distinct feeling out process. They've had some bloody, brutal wars in the past, and each man knows the capacity of the other to land a knock out blow at any time. Hero showed his technical skills in his debut, and forced Kingston to show what he had to offer on the mat, trying to take him down and stretch him out, but Kingston was able to hold his own enough to not be stifled and get himself into position to land some offense. Kingston would hit a series of big strikes and suplexes near the end of this match that made it look like things were going his way, but it was not to be. Hero was able to duck the Backfist to the Future, kneeing Kingston in the back and grabbing him into the One Behind the Ear (Inverted Headlock into Discus Elbow), which staggered Kingston, leading to Hero hitting a Cravate Suplex, followed into the Hangman's Clutch II (Arm-trap Inverted Cravate). Kingston was clearly stunned by the blow to the head and being dropped on his neck, just not having enough to fight the hold and had to tap! Hero is ecstatic, yelling and elbowing the top turnbuckle, before nearly back flipping out of the ring and grabbing a mic.
Chris Hero:
I put everybody on notice, and you just saw it right there! I can knock you out, or I can tap you out, but either way... the Hero always wins!
Hero throws down the mic and gets up into the camera, talking inaudibly with his elbow in the lens.
Alex Shelley & "The Final Boss" Kenny Omega vs. "The Anarchist" Doug Williams & "Die Hard" Eddie Edwards
All four of these men have traveled all over the world playing their craft and are four of the best in the business today. This match really reflected their international experience, as you saw a good amount of British style catch-as-catch-can early on between Shelley and Williams, leading to some Japanese junior heavyweight style exchanges between Omega and Edwards, before Edwards grounded Omega and he and "The Anarchist" began implementing their game plan, tagging frequently and grounding the Canadian stand out. Shelley would get a hot tag and come in on fire, only to have Williams duck an Enzuigiri attempt after some punches, yanking him up in a Wheelbarrow and leading to a combo with Edwards nailing Shelley with a Code Breaker from that position! Williams would head up top, looking for his Bomb Scare, only to catch a jumping HADOUKEN Palm Strike from Omega, which sent him flying and crashing into the guard rail on the outside! From there, Omega took flight, hitting a Front Flip Suicida onto Williams! Edwards would pick up Shelley, trying for his Die Hard Driver, but Shelley would break free, catching Edwards with a snap Superkick and then attempting to nail a move he calls Automatic Midnight (Over the Shoulder Driver), but Edwards escapes, trying for the Die Hard, perhaps, but Shelley breaks free, twisting the arm and rolling him up into the Shelley Clutch! Williams rolls in and tries to break it up, but the referee gets to three! Big pick up for Alex Shelley in his debut!
Mike Tenay:
Alex Shelley gets the win for his team in what was a really high spirited contest! Both Omega and Shelley looked great here, and it was Shelley's technical wizardry that was able to get them the victory!
Scott Hudson:
No doubt, this guy has a seemingly endless bag of tricks in his arsenal, and he and Omega both were outstanding. Edwards and Williams are no slouches, that's for sure; this one came down to who was better prepared, and Shelley looked like he came into this with a solid game plan and it paid off big time!
"The Russian Hooligan" Alex Koslov & "The Golden Boy" Drake Younger w/ Jenna Morasca vs. "The Modern Day Spartan" Matt Cross & "Maple Leaf Muscle" Petey Williams
Younger and Cross have been at each others throats since both men debuted, with Younger able to sustain a psychological advantage throughout. Tonight, the tables turned a bit, as Younger did have some great help in the very brash yet talented Alex Koslov, but Cross and Williams just seemed to be incensed with passion tonight, working like a well oiled machine and smashing through all of the underhanded tactics and taunts of their opponents with smooth transitions and tag team moves, keeping the pace where they wanted it all night. Koslov tried to attack Williams with a chair while the ref was distracted with Morasca, the team of Younger and Koslov obviously grasping for anything they could to steal a win, but Williams ducked it and caught Koslov with a Leg Lariat to the chair to send him out of the ring! Younger tries to attack him from behind, but Petey actually executes a mule kick low blow, getting cheers from the fans for giving Younger a taste of his own medicine, before nailing the Canadian Destroyer! Williams pulls him into position afterwards, as Matt Cross is ready up top and flies off, hitting the Brave Man's Death (Moonsault Double Stomp), crushing the midsection of Younger and picking up the win he so badly craved!
Mike Tenay:
There's some retribution for Matt Cross, taking down Drake Younger in a big way with a much deserved win!
Scott Hudson:
Younger and Koslov have the right stuff, but the intensity of Cross and Williams was just off the charts. These two just know how to bring it, and Younger and Koslov might as well have been standing in the way of a wrecking ball! It was a disaster, Mike, plain and simple!
Chris Sabin vs. Spanky
Sabin has looked great since his debut, but his attitude is something the fans just can't get behind. Sabin doesn't care how he gets the job done, and he is in there to humiliate his opponents and make himself look good at all costs. Spanky had other plans tonight, locking up and taking Sabin to the mat early and stifling his quick offense and trickery with good old fashioned joint locks and takedowns, making Sabin sweat early and try to figure out how to make things go his way. Sabin was able to break away from a Rear Waistlock take down, taking the opportunity to send a Front Dropkick into the face of Spanky and began to assault him with stomps and a Camel Clutch with a knee to Spanky's spine! Sabin continues to land big kicks and forearms to Spanky before nailing a Springboard Swinging DDT, but he only gets a two count. Sabin tries to come off of the rope with a Front Missile Dropkick, but Spanky backs off and Sabin lands on his back, leading to Spanky flipping on top of him with a pin attempt, followed right into an Crippler Crossface hold! Sabin tries to get to the ropes, only to get locked up into a Rings of Saturn variation! Sabin looks like he wants to break it with his legs, but Spanky turns it into a pinning combo, getting a two count! From there, Sabin manages to duck a Roundhouse Kick and sweeps out Spanky's legs, hitting a Springboard Rotating Legdrop to get a two count. Sabin calls for the end, trying for his Cradle Shock, but Spanky pulls him backwards into a Crucifix Pin attempt, chaining it right into a move he calls the Spanky Twist (Spider Twist), and Sabin has nowhere to go. Sabin taps out, and that's all she wrote!
Mike Tenay:
What a wild submission utilized by Spanky there, Scott! Almost like a Koji Clutch, trapping the opponents head and contorting their arms. Very deadly stuff, and a very big win for him.
Scott Hudson:
Chris Sabin has a real mean streak and a lot of talent, but Spanky was able to impose his will, ground and counter him, and Sabin just couldn't keep up in the end. He went for his best move and obviously Spanky had an answer for it tonight.
Sabu vs. Shawn Daivari
Sabu came out to a huge ovation tonight and looked ready for battle. Daivari has shed his old garb and came out in his track pants and shoes, not waiting for any formalities before tackling Sabu and attacking with vicious punches and stomps. These two fought all around the ring, and by the end, both men were bleeding. The referee basically let it all go, as chairs and eventually tables were brought into this. Sabu looked like he might have the match won, setting Daivari on a table and taking a chair up to the top rope with him, only to have Daivari roll off of the table and catch him on top, smashing him in the head with the chair as he was seated on the top turnbuckle. Daivari sets the chair on the table and goes up top, grabbing Sabu and slamming him mostly back first into the table with a Super Desert Storm (Death Valley Bomb), pinning him for the win! The fans gave a big ovation in the end, as both men worked their asses off here in an entertaining brawl!
Mike Tenay:
What a war! It went right down to the finish, but Daivari just had a fire in him and nailed that devastating Desert Storm off the top. Sabu may never be the same after that move, crushing his back and head into the mat!
Scott Hudson:
Sabu has been in a lot of ring wars in his time in the sport, but that was awesome! Nobody can say he's not a man's man, however, as he's denying any help getting to the back, stumbling to the back with blood covering his face, not letting his pride be destroyed despite the damage his body took tonight. What a true wrestling legend!
We go backstage, where we see two promos, one from Chris Dickinson and one from BJ Whitmer.
BJ Whitmer:
Chris Dickinson, you've tried to prove yourself time and time again, but you've got it all wrong. You want to be a man? Fight like a man. Quit your bitching and whining, and just fight for once. Tonight, I'm going to do what somebody should have did a long time ago... I'm going to beat the piss out of you and teach you a little God damn respect!
We then hear from Dickinson.
Chris Dickinson:
Maybe I haven't been in this business as long as that piece of shit BJ Whitmer, but when he talks about respect, it makes me want to fuckin' puke! BJ, you were literally given everything you could have ever wanted... and you squandered it all away. You came back to this sport and everybody took you in with open arms... well not me. You are everything wrong with this business, throwing it all away by being the selfish fuckin' drug addict you are, and tonight, I'm going to show everybody the kind of man you are... the kind of man who needs to be eradicated, as a real man, a man who loves this sport, Chris Dickinson, destroys you and the myth around you. You're nothin' but a little bitch, living a miserable existence, and I'm going to put you out!
"The Kentucky Crippler" BJ Whitmer vs. "The Death Machine" Chris Dickinson
This was nothing short of a fight. These two didn't implore one wrestling hold, instead opting to beat the living Hell out of one another with kicks, chops, headbutts, punches, and anything that wasn't nailed down on the outside. In the end, both men were just standing in the middle of the ring, trading slaps and yelling obscenities, the crowd mesmerized by their warrior spirit, before Dickinson caught Whitmer with a spin kick to the gut, followed by multiple upward kicks to his face as "The Death Machine" held down his head, crashing kick after kick into the side of BJ's face. Dickinson would end the match, nailing a Spinning Sole Kick to his face before leaving him for dead, not even giving him the dignity of pinning him. The referee just called for medics, the bell ringing, but never really declaring a winner. I think it was pretty obvious who came out on top here.
Mike Tenay:
What a barbaric display by both men... neither waning an inch in their hatred, Hell bent on destruction, and in the end, Dickinson comes out on top. He didn't even give Whitmer the dignity of finishing it properly, leaving him for dead in the ring. The symbolism is almost overwhelming.
Scott Hudson:
That was just a fight, folks. Wrestling was out the window, there, and I won't soon forget the carnage that took place here tonight. Dickinson is an animal, albeit one with a twisted sense of principles, and he came out on top tonight. Whitmer gave it his all, but Dickinson was just the better man tonight.
"The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels vs. Delirious
This was a wrestling match at its best. Where as the last two matches of this show were barbaric fights, these two put on a very entertaining and enthralling match, which saw the paranoid and crazed Daniels using all of his skills to try and keep down Delirious, whom he kept referring to as "Suicide" throughout, obviously convinced he was facing his tormentor tonight. Delirious would yell his own incoherent rambling at Daniels, making this perhaps the best match ever had between two men who should be locked up in padded cells. Delirious would actually out wrestle Daniels on the mat in a few instances, while Daniels high impact offense had Delirious down for more near falls. Daniels would make a tactical error, however, in attempting to his Fall From Grace, Delirious escaping and flying off the middle turnbuckle with a quick Huracanrana, holding Daniels down tightly afterwards and getting the surprise three count! The former World and current South Beach champion was beside himself, as Delirious ran into the crowd, celebrating with all of his fans. Daniels pounds his fists on the mat in rage, unable to believe he's been bested tonight!
Mike Tenay:
DELIRIOUS DID IT! He overcame the Fallen Angel with a crisp and tight Huracanrana, and Daniels can't believe it!
Scott Hudson:
Daniels tried to get fancy, perhaps having opportunities to finish the match earlier but opting to go high impact, maybe trying to prove a point, but it backfired into his face! His focus has been completely lost, and Delirious took advantage tonight in what has to be considered the biggest win of his career!
Mike Tenay:
For Scott Hudson, I'm Mike Tenay, so long wrestling fans! We'll see you here next week on Friday Night War!
