"FRIDAY NIGHT WAR"
LOCATION: The Wolstein Center, Cleveland, OH
BROADCAST TEAM: Mike Tenay & Scott Hudson
EVENT DATE: March 15, 2013
After the intro video we head down to ringside, where we are greeted by our announce team, Mike Tenay and Scott Hudson!
Mike Tenay:
Welcome fans to another edition of Friday Night War! Tonight, in the main event, we are going to see the debut of the current World Junior Heavyweight champion, the self-proclaimed "Blockbuster!" himself, Johnny Gargano, as he teams with the also debuting Chuck Taylor to take on former World champion Ricochet and the always impressive Spanky!
Scott Hudson:
That match is going to be a big one. Gargano and Taylor have a history, which is how Taylor was lucky enough to land a spot in the main event tonight, but these two really have no love loss. It's going to be interesting to see the dynamic of this team, Mike, and how they fair against two of the very best in War Zone in Ricochet and Spanky.
Mike Tenay:
Only time will tell if they are able to rise to the occasion, but for now, it's time to head to the ring for our opening contest of the evening, as we see two New Yorker's in Quiet Storm and Trent Barreta take on two Ohio natives in Christian Faith and Eric Ryan!
Christian Faith & Eric Ryan vs. Quiet Storm & Trent Barreta
Faith and Ryan may have been looked at as underdogs coming into this, Storm having the most experience in this match while Barreta is easily the most exposed, but these two Ohio natives showed that they were both very talented and very cohesive in their efforts tonight. Christian Faith, at 6'05" and 280+ lbs. dropped a lot of jaws with his aerial ability, flying to the outside with a Front Flip Suicida and finishing the match after Eric Ryan dropped Storm with a move he calls the Failure to Reason (Cross Arm Scoop Brainbuster), hitting his own finisher called The Divine Descent (Spiral Tap) to get the pinfall victory! These fans were on their feet for these guys, as all four men looked crisp, but Faith and Ryan were just on fire tonight. Ryan got on the mic after the match.
Eric Ryan:
I am "The Voice of Reason" of professional wrestling, Eric Ryan, and this is my good friend Christian Faith; we really hope you all enjoyed the show tonight, because we're not going anywhere! The fact of the matter is, tonight marks the day that wrestling, the sport, is purified. It all starts here, in War Zone Wrestling, so feel privileged to be witnessing this. Away with the politics and all of the other bullshit, it's come to this... man to man, who's the best, who's got the drive and the talent to survive, and we're at the vanguard of it all. So keep your eyes peeled, because big things are coming, and no one is safe!
Ryan throws down the mic and exits the ring quickly, Faith more slowly and menacingly following behind.
Dan Maff & Xavier vs. Shane Hollister & Silas Young
Hollister and Young put up a good fight in this short tag team contest, getting a number of near falls and seemingly had the match in hand, but after a low blow from Xavier to Young, things turned drastically. Xavier would deliver a massive running knee strike to Young, sending him to the outside, bringing in Maff, who sent Hollister down hard with an Overhead Belly to Belly Suplex, followed by a Cannonball Smash in the corner! From there, Maff would use a brutal series of short arm Lariats, finishing with a Discus Lariat that turned the Iowa native inside out. Maff made the pinfall as Xavier held Young off at the ropes, gaining the pinfall victory.
Mike Tenay:
Dan Maff shows some real power and tenacity there, Scott!
Scott Turner:
Shane Hollister and Silas Young have boat loads of talent, no doubt about it, but I'd be hard pressed to find anyone who could kick out of that Lariat barrage Hollister just suffered at the hands of Dan Maff. I'm not gonna lie, Mike, that was some scary stuff!
"The Big Rig" Brodie Lee & "The Show Stealer" Michael Shane vs. Dustin Rayz & Eric Corvis
Brodie Lee and Michael Shane came in aggressive, tagging frequently and taunting their opponents incessantly. Rayz and Corvis are obviously talented, as Rayz showed a lot of agility and Corvis had some very creative counters, but all of that doesn't really amount to much when you've got the boot of a 6'06" angry trucker flying at you with intent to kill. Rayz thought it was a good idea to fly at Brodie Lee from the top rope, but whatever he was trying for failed miserably as he was caught in mid-air and swung downward, getting slammed by the Truck Stop. From there, Shane took the opportunity to fly off the top and drive his elbow into the heart of Rayz and make the cover, getting the three count. Lee would nail a Sit-Out Powerbomb on Corvis at the end of the match just for the Hell of it before Shane took the microphone.
Michael Shane:
Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is how it's done! Yeah, yeah, you saw that slouch Azrieal supposedly get the better of me last week, but in reality, I beat myself! Now I've aligned myself with an individual who's going to help me get my career on track, and with that display, there should be no doubt in anybody's mind... we're takin' over, and if you don't like it... you can blow it!
Shane makes an obscene gesture, moving his hand towards his crotch as Lee holds his fist in the air.
Scott Hudson:
These guys remind me of something...
Mike Tenay:
Yeah, I couldn't imagine what. In any case, they picked up the win and that's about all that matters. Speaking of Azrieal, though, he turned a lot of heads last week with both his bizarre claims and his tight in ring action, but this week, he faces a Cleveland native who's had some head turning matches in the past... we're talking about Azrieal taking on Josh Prohibition, up next!
"The Exiled Archangel" Azrieal vs. Josh Prohibition
This match started off as a solid back and forth mat grappling display, which ended with the fans cheering on both men, Azrieal even slow clapping for his opponent. They would then exchange blows, which Prohibition would take the upper hand there, only to get ahead of himself and run off the ropes, getting caught with a Spinning Wheel Kick. Azrieal locks on some rest holds, Prohibition working his way up and the fans are behind their hometown boy, Prohibition finishing his rally with a big Exploder Suplex, but only a two count. Prohibition would then nail an impressive combo, hitting a Dragon Suplex, bridging for a two, before turning it into a Sideways Full Nelson Clutch before switching it into a Full Mount Full Nelson Clutch. Azrieal, however, would scream out in pain and fight it, making it to the ropes and putting his boot to the bottom one. Prohibition would then try for a Wrist Clutch Exploder, but Azrieal broke out of it, leaping off the middle rope and backwards, catching Prohibition with an Ace Crusher! He would recuperate from there, as did Prohibition. Prohibition would try to catch Azrieal with a Lariat, but Azrieal ducks it, catching Josh with a Huracanrana as he turns. Azrieal runs and jumps to the middle turnbuckle, flying backwards with an Elbow to Prohibition, dropping him to a knee, before, running and grabbing him with a Leaping Complete Shot! From there, Azrieal taunts, stalking his opponent as the fans have turned in his favor, before Prohibition gets to a knee. He then rushes, stepping up and nailing the Shattering Silence to the back of Prohibition's head, earning the three count!
Mike Tenay:
Once again, Azrieal with a big win here, nailing that Shattering Silence finisher! These fans are certainly coming around to him, as you hear their reaction!
Scott Hudson:
He beat a very wily veteran in Prohibition, who looked like he could have had him beat a number of times, but Azrieal showed his determination and pain threshold. He's going to be one to look out for here in War Zone Wrestling!
We go backstage, where we see Alex Shelley standing in front of a television, watching a match and studying it.
Alex Shelley:
When most watch a wrestling match, they see two men, or women, they wrestle now... Hell, in some countries, better than the men, but regardless, they see two people fighting. They see a good guy and a bad guy, perhaps... but many fail to see the nuances of the sport. Many fail to see... the craft involved, the art form, that which... I embody. When one asks me, "What do you do?" I tell them simply, "I am an artist." I believe this to be a true statement. I don't see what the others see in that ring, instead. Some see a canvas for brutality, where I see an empty canvas waiting for me to make my masterpiece... an empty sheet of music longing for my magnum opus... the cameras around the ring my outlet, my vehicle, for what will be a brilliant performance. I am the artist known as Alex Shelley, "The Abstract," and just when you think you've figured me out... look again. I've changed. I'm always changing, always growing. One day, I will bring this art form to its pinnacle, my body of work becoming the most important the sport has ever known... and for all of my work and dedication, for all of my genius... I will be immortalized as champion of the World. You will know then that you are staring the very portrait of greatness!
Shelley pinches his thumb and index finger on right hand together, making a sort of brush stroke into the air as he winks and smiles at the camera. We then head to the ring.
"The Abstract" Alex Shelley vs. Tyler Black
Shelley would show off his sizable mat wrestling skills early, overcoming the aggressive Tyler Black with a number of slick European style counters which had Black and the fans both wondering how anybody could pin this guy down. Black opted to stop trying that route and began striking, which "The Abstract" would try to match him at, but simply could not and had to go back to what he really does best, and that's suppress with his technical wizardry. Black would break out some flashy counters of his own, using his speed and agility to send Shelley reeling before diving to the outside with a Sidewinder Suicida! Back in the ring, Black catches Shelley with a Springboard Flying Knee, getting a two count. He then tries for his Avada Kedavra (Kneeling Superkick) finisher, but Shelley catches him and pulls him into a Standing STF, followed into a Backslide for a two count. From there, Black ducks a Superkick attempt and hits a Springboard Gamenjiri, hitting his Blackout (Push Stomp to the Back of Bent Opponent's Head), getting a two count. He calls for the end, nailing a Rib Breaker and going up top, trying for a Phoenix Splash, but Shelley rolls out of the way, running and nailing a Swinging Huracanrana, followed by a Springboard Armdrag, followed by a Running Stomp to the back of Black's head, and then a Dropkick to his face as he was on all fours! The fans cheer as Shelley delivers a Superkick to Black which turns him, followed by a Straight Jacket O'Connor roll for which he follows up by doing a Split Leg Pin, reminiscent of Jeff Hardy, to the back of Black's leg, pinning him to the ground in a compressed way and holding his shoulders down for the three count!
Mike Tenay:
In all of my years, I have never seen a roll-up quite like that! What a display from Alex Shelley!
Scott Hudson:
Usually, you hear a guy brag about his skills and you try to dislike him, but after seeing that... I don't think anybody can doubt that this guy is a highly skilled competitor, a true innovator, and he's going to be one of the hardest to beat in War Zone Wrestling, by far! Dare I say Bravo, Alex Shelley! Very spirited fight from Tyler Black, but he had no way to prepare for that onslaught.
"The Russian Hooligan" Alex Koslov & "The Anarchist" Doug Williams vs. Shawn Daivari & "The War King" Eddie Kingston
This match was just full of bad attitude, and degenerated into an all out brawl by the end of it. Williams and Kingston must have had some really harsh words during the match, as they were jaw jacking almost the entire time and ended up leaving the match completely, brawling into the crowd. Daivari would try to get the one up on Koslov, going for his Desert Storm as the ref was distracted by the brawling outside, but Koslov slid off of his back and nailed a huge low blow, leading to him nailing the Russian Legsweep right into his Red Scare submission. As the referee turned, Daivari was stuck and had to tap. Koslov steals one for his team!
Mike Tenay:
Koslov opts to take the low road and it pays off, locking on that vicious Red Scare choke out hold to get the win!
Scott Hudson:
Man, did you see Kingston and Williams? These guys were out for blood! What was going on there?
Mike Tenay:
I have no idea, but I have a feeling that fight is far from over.
We then see a pre-recorded video at an off site location. It's BJ Whitmer sitting at his home in Kentucky, looking down and humbled.
BJ Whitmer:
You all saw last week; you all saw what happened. Chris Dickinson, that night, he came into that fight with something I didn't have... something I haven't had for a long time, and that's a primal hunger. Sure, I've had desire, and I've wanted to make it in this business. I have talent and I have toughness, but that kind of animal hunger, that's something a kid like him, that's something he has that I do not. We beat the Hell out of each other, but just as he'd done in the past, he came out on top, and it was his hunger that overcame me. Put me on that mat, and he left me. Would I have stopped? Would I have kicked out of a pin attempt? I don't know. We'll never know. But he thought I was done, and to be honest, I wanted to stop being hit. But he did me a favor, in all of that... he made me realize that dealing with a guy like him, he's a psychotic, and I'm not. He may have rage, he may have hunger, but now... now he's given me vengeance. He's culminated in me all of my afflictions, all of my own personal demons, and he's given me a target now. He's woken up something inside of me, and... and I may seem calm now, but I'll be honest, man... I'm on the edge. I'm near a frenzied state, but I've also recently come in contact with some guys. Some guys I knew from way back, guys I traveled with, guys I bled with, guys I've shed tears of both sorrow and joy with, who have my back. Chris likes to talk about me being an addict, about me being weak, but the fact is, I overcame that, and I'm not looking for pats on the back or praise, but I overcame it because I focused on it, and I had my friends and family to draw that strength from. I now have people to draw strength from in overcoming him. You all can find him so appealing, you can praise him, and sure, he's talented... sure, he's driven... driven like a maniac, which is what he is, but make no mistake about it: I'm a normal human being, just like any of you. I feel, I fail, but I try to redeem myself. Chris Dickinson? He's a subhuman snake. He doesn't care about anybody or anything. He wouldn't bring a drink of water to a dying man, and he sure as Hell doesn't care about you. This isn't over, Chris, that's the bottom line. It may never be over, but sooner than later, you're going to find yourself staring into my eyes again and you're going to be in the fight of your life once again, and next time... you're going to be the one seeking medical attention. And that's a promise!
Chris Hero vs. "Die Hard" Eddie Edwards vs. "The Virgin Slayer" Shiima Xion
Shiima Xion actually got the biggest action of all here at the opening, and it's no secret why: this guy puts on a Hell of a show for the fans, and has a very visually impressive move set. However, Chris Hero would win them over with his own show of agility and technique, moving like a luchadore at times, reversing holds like the most savvy of British stars, and then executing massive elbow strikes and kicks that rocked his opponent's foundations. Edwards would win over the fans in his own way. Sure, he doesn't have the flash of Xion or quite the acumen of Hero, but he does what he does very well and crisply; more importantly, he's very tough. He managed to kick out of the Hero's Welcome from Hero, the From Lust to Dust (Snapmare Driver) and Filipino Destroyer (Inverted FLTD), and even made to the ropes when caught in the Hangman's Clutch. Hero would end up nailing a Rolling Elbow to the back of Edward's head to send him out of the ring, before hitting Xion with a Big Boot in mid-air to stop him in his tracks. Hero picks Xion up off the mat by his arm, twisting it behind him, and then whipping him around with the Rip Cord Rolling Elbow, and it's all over! Hero gets a massive victory here!
Mike Tenay:
If there is one guy more versatile and dangerous than Alex Shelley, it has to be Chris Hero! He made a big statement here, beating two very talented individuals in one night!
Scott Hudson:
You talk about heart, though, look at what Eddie Edwards went through in that match. He just wouldn't quit, but Hero, he didn't seem the least bit impressed, and he pounded his way to the finish. The narcissistic Xion may need facial reconstructive surgery after that massive elbow to the face! Big ups to Chris Hero on that one!
Delirious vs. "The Final Boss" Kenny Omega
There were some entertaining, humorous spots through this match, mostly in vocal exchanges between Delirious and Omega, and the fans really ate it up. These guys showed why they are at the top of the card around here with this contest, and Omega really did give Delirious a run for his money, trying to pull out all of the stops and it looked like he might beat one of the main players in War Zone Wrestling here tonight with his HADOUKEN right to the face of a kneeling Delirious. Delirious, though, would kick out and roll to the outside of the ring. He then pulled something out from under the ring... a computer keyboard! Omega would put up his hands and plead "NO! NO!" Delirious would then yell out as he typed, "I-D-D-Q-D... GOD MODE!!!" Delirious gets into the ring, his fists balled and he's feeling it, yelling out. Omega tries a chop, but nothing. He tries another, but nothing! He tries a fist, but Delirious blocks it and chops him! He then chops him again, backing him up to the ropes! He then whips Omega off of the ropes and connects... BIG BOOT! Delirious follows up with a LEG DROP OF DOOM! Delirious covers... ONE! ... And that's it. Omega kicks out. Delirious grumbles, "Damn... worked once." They then get back to the action, exchanging chops and holds, before Omega gets the upper hand with an Enzuigiri, followed by a Leap Frog Bulldog for a two count. He tries for another HADOUKEN, but Delirious does a Matrix move to avoid it! Delirious nails a Leaping Clothesline, and Omega goes down, stumbling into the corner. Delirious follows in and delivers multiple Clotheslines, the Neverending Story, if you weeeeel! Omega goes down, and Delirious catches him in the face with high knee attack! Delirious is charged up, getting the fans behind him, as Omega stumbles out, grabbing at nothing in a daze. He tries for a wild punch to Delirious, but Delirious ducks, landing a forearm to his back which doubles him over. Delirious reaches under his legs, grabbing his arms... Chemical Imbalance II! Delirious hangs on, and it's all over! Delirious gets the win!
Mike Tenay:
Wow, these guys are entertaining and very skilled. That finisher was absolutely devastating, Scott, did you see the trajectory that Omega landed on his neck!? I can't believe it.
Scott Hudson:
Yeah, that was a serious move, and look at that... these guys are handshaking. That's just classy. Well rounded display here from two absolutely amazing wrestlers.
We go backstage, where we see Chuck Taylor pacing around in front of the War Zone banner.
Chuck Taylor:
I'm about to go to that ring and give those fans what they've been DEMANDING, and that's Chuck Taylor, back in action here in the NWA! Unfortunately, yes, it's Cleveland, but I'm gonna make the best of it. I feel like I've been overlooked and a little underrated, and maybe we'd of packed this house tonight if they'd of realized what they had, threw away the old and embraced the new... put Sexy Chucky T's hot bod and handsome mug on a huge banner outside of the Wolstein Center and watched the revenues skyrocket! Instead, they put their faith in that clown I'm supposed to partner up with tonight, Johnny Gargano, a guy who couldn't sell popcorn at a movie theater but wants call himself "THE BLOCKBUSTER!" Well management, Gabe Sapolsky, whoever is running this ship, it's time you got your head out of your asses and take a good, hard look at who you signed! I'm not some green rookie bush leaguer, I'm Chuck Taylor, and in case you haven't heard, I'm kinda a BIG DEAL! And tonight, you know, for this, I should just walk out and leave you dunce cap wearing jabronies with your dicks in your hands, wondering what to do about your precious main event, but NO! NO, tonight, in spite of everything, "The Big Deal" himself, Chuck Taylor, is going to put on the show of a lifetime... and don't worry, folks at home, your television is not malfunctioning... your local wrestling program just got interesting, and yes, my dear fans... that just happened!
"The Big Deal" Chuck Taylor & "The Blockbuster!" Johnny Gargano vs. Ricochet & Spanky
This was not the smoothest of matches, as there was a lot of styles clashing and the team of Taylor and Gargano were just uncooperative. Taylor and Ricochet had some really nice exchanges, as they broke into the business together and know one another very well, getting huge reactions from the crowd. Gargano looked good enough here, having some decent exchanges with Ricochet and Spanky was able to carry him along through some technical exchanges, but the team of Ricochet and Spanky really didn't have much psychology together. That didn't seem to matter in the end, though. Gargano would piss off Taylor, tagging himself in as Taylor was stalking Ricochet on the mat. This caused Taylor to leave Gargano on his own. Ricochet would manage to get his foot on the ropes after getting smashed into the buckles with the Lawn Dart, followed by the Hurts Donut, wisely rolling close to the ring apron. Ricochet would catch Gargano with a Backslide Driver, tagging in Spanky, who would nail Gargano with a Swinging DDT, sending him into the corner. From there, Spanky performed a Wall Flip Kick, causing Gargano to stumble out of the corner and into a Sliced Bread #2, which was enough to put down the World Junior Heavyweight champion at that point! Despite the odd pairing, Ricochet and Spanky come out on top!
Mike Tenay:
Many may accredit that win to Chuck Taylor bailing on the match, but that was a huge pinfall win for Spanky going into the Junior Heavyweight title contendership tournament that starts tomorrow.
Scott Hudson:
It certainly doesn't get much better than having a pinfall victory over the champion, that's for sure!
Mike Tenay:
Gargano's stubbornness really brought that on, and now he's shown his vulnerability. For Scott Hudson, I'm Mike Tenay, so long and see you next time here on Friday Night WAR!
