NWA WORLD JUNIOR HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE CONTENDERSHIP TOURNAMENT
03/16/2013
Woodling Gym, Cleveland, OH
"The Exiled Archangel" Azrieal vs. Noam Dar
Noam Dar would come on the attack quickly, utilizing a fast paced striker's style to try and overcome Azrieal. Azrieal would ground Dar, using his size advantage to keep him down, but Dar showed his mat wrestling skills to counter many holds and fight his way back up. Azrieal would manage to avoid a Knee to the Face from Dar, rolling him up with a School Boy but rolling him to his knees, kicking him to the chest before delivering his Shattering Silence finisher to get the three count.
Paul London vs. Xavier
Paul London would try to avoid trading blows with the very dangerous striker Xavier. Xavier had a power advantage, but Paul London is very skilled on the mat and would manage to take him down and keep him at a more manageable position. Xavier is a powerful guy, though, and utilizes a roughneck style that ended up busting the nose of London. Xavier would attempt to nail his Kiss Your X Goodbye, but London break free and flip it over into an over-rotated Sunset Flip, holding on tight and kicking his legs to get the flash pinfall victory! Xavier couldn't believe it, but you can never count out a talent like Paul London.
American Kickboxer 2 vs. "The Final Boss" Kenny Omega
AK2 is a champion in Windy City, but he had a very tall order in defeating the Canadian sensation known as Kenny Omega. AK2 is native of Ohio, so this was a bit of a homecoming for him, and he looked to make the most of it. These two would have many quick exchanges in a rather short contest, which ended with AK2 catching Omega after a sequence of reversals with a Yoshi Tonic, which he would hang on to and get the three count.
"Die Hard" Eddie Edwards vs. Volador Jr.
Volador Jr. would overcome the onslaught laid onto him by Eddie Edwards by being resilient and fast. Volador's best moves came from quick armdrags and dives to the outside, while otherwise getting brutalized by kicks and submissions from Edwards. Volador was able to avoid a Springboard Dropkick from Edwards and catch him with a Volador Spiral (Huracanrana Driver) as he got to a knee, earning him the advancement.
PAC vs. Ricochet
While there were some holds and strikes laid on one another throughout, everybody knew this match was going to be won through the air. PAC would manage to deliver a visually stunning Imploding 450 Splash from the middle turnbuckle after catching Ricochet with a Dropkick in the corner, sealing his spot in the next round.
El Hijo del Fantasma vs. Spanky
Fantasma would shock and amaze the crowd early, running down the isle and jumping over the ropes and into the ring, smashing Spanky with a Lariat to start this match off hot! These two would trade holds viciously, as Fantasma was very hungry to win and Spanky was determined not to be one upped throughout. In the end, Fantasma would try for a German Suplex, only to get caught by an elbow from Spanky, leading to him getting taken down and locked into the Spanky Twist. There's nowhere to go from there, Spanky gets the submission win!
"The Greatest Man That Ever Lived" Austin Aries vs. Shawn Daivari
Daivari was very careful early on, obviously having worked on his take down defense, as there was no way he wanted to go to the ground with "A-Double" and he did a good job of keeping on his feet. Daivari would try to out brawl him with vicious punches and kicks, but Aries showed he was tough enough to withstand Daivari's blows and used his south paw left hand blows to send Daivari reeling and to the outside. Aries would nail a big time missile-like Suicida to get the fans pumped and behind him, but Daivari would low blow him on the outside to switch the momentum. Back in the ring, Daivari would utilize a Camel Clutch to wear down Aries back and neck, trying to weaken him for the Desert Storm, but Aries was able to reverse it with his Crucifix Bomb counter, which he followed up with the Last Chancery! Daivari, though, was able to reach the ropes and get the break. Daivari would gouge the eyes of Aries and pound him to the ground with forearms, before viciously stomping him in the corner, finishing with a running Boot Scrape that almost sent Aries' head flying into the crowd! Daivari would pick him up and try for the Desert Storm again, but Aries showed his resolve, breaking free with a series of elbows. Daivari tried to catch him with a clothesline, but Aries ducked and caught him with a backward Thrust Kick to the gut, following up with a sick Vertical Drop Brainbuster, floating over and getting the three count!
Delirious vs. Matt Sydal
One of the more heated rivalries of the mid-00's on the independent circuit, it was a long time coming for these two old foes to meet again. Both men knew each other well, and knew they'd have to dig deep in order to one up the other, which lead to a Match of the Night performance and a standing ovation in the end. Sydal would eat all of the hard, echoing chops and strikes with poise, showing his heart and battling back, nailing a Pumphandle Half Nelson Driver for a two count that sent Delirious reeling. Delirious would use some very flashy technical roll-ups and counters to get a series of two counts of Sydal, but Sydal would score with an Inverted Fame-asser into a Pin Attempt, getting a near fall and sending Delirious to the outside again. Sydal faked him out with a dive feint, only to catch him with a Rolling Senton Attack from a diagonal trajectory to the outside, wowing the fans with his aerial grace! Sydal would go on to hit a Shooting Star Press from the apron onto Delirious before sending him into the ring. Sydal went up top and tried for a Double Helix (Springboard Corkscrew Moonsault), but Delirious got his knees up to counter the move. Delirious would then nail a knee strike to Sydal in the corner before hitting the In Vitro Fertilization (Canadian Backbreaker into Ace Crusher), which only earned him a two count. Delirious would then nail his Bizarro Driver (Inside Leghook Fisherman's Driver), sure that was going to be it, but Sydal STILL kicked out! Delirious headed up top and was looking for the Shadows Over Hell, but as he flew off, Sydal turned and caught him with a Codebreaker! Sydal would regain his bairing before catching Delirious with a barrage of kicks and putting him up top, delivering his Cyclorama (Super Flipping Belly to Belly Slam), but when he went for the pin, he only got a two count as well! Sydal would bodyslam Delirious and call for the Shooting Star Press, heading up top and flying, but Delirious dodged it. Sydal holds his gut on the mat and Delirious grabs him and twists him, locking on the Cobra Clutch Stretch! Sydal is caught in the middle of the ring and is just too injured... he has to submit! Delirious gets the hard fought victory as the crowd goes wild!
