Tonight’s show is being taped in Charleston, West Virginia with Joey Styles and Don Callis welcoming the television audience to tonight’s broadcast. Joey Styles let’s everyone know that on January 8th, 2012 3RW’s first super show, “The Battle in the Burgh” already has the main event set as “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles will face “Valhalla’s Favorite Son” in a cage match for the NWA 3 Rivers X division title! Also recently added… Joey Styles is cut off by Roderick Strong’s music. “The Messiah of the Backbreaker” came out as arrogant as ever, with mic in hand as he personally introduces his opponent for tonight, Edward Eddie!
SINGLES MATCH
Roderick Strong def. Edward Eddie
You didn’t read that wrong, the crowd was pretty angry when a midget dressed like Eddie Edwards came to the ring, trying to do his best Eddie Edwards impression. The whole thing was just to mock Edwards but when the midget made Roderick Strong look stupid, Strong snapped and slapped the Stronghold on Eddie forcing him to tap out almost immediately. Strong wouldn’t give up the hold which resulted in the real Eddie Edwards to rush the ring starting a brawl between both men, Edwards ended up planting Strong with the Die Hard brainbuster as the show cut to commercial.
TAG TEAM MATCH
The Revolution (Kyle O’Reilly & Adam Cole) def. BLK OUT(Alex Colon & Sabian) w/ Julius Smokes
This was a great match up between two hot young teams that are looking to make waves in the NWA tag team division. The Revolution came all the way from NWA Midwest to rage war with the street smart BLK OUT. Julius Smokes got involved and O’Reilly made him pay with a trifecta of rolling under hook suplexes, but Colon made him pay with a huge dropkick. The match got intense but the finish came when Adam Cole planted Sabian with an inverted DDT to pick up the victory.
SHOWCASE MATCH
Jay Lethal vs. Craig Classic
Both of these men are debuting in this match, and a win here would help catapult the winner into the X division title picture. So these two guys put it all on the line as they pulled out all the stops in a match that got “This is Awesome” chants from the sold out crowd. Jay Lethal tried to come off the top with the Lethal Injection but Classic was able to move out of the way letting Lethal crash and burn, with Classic following up with a huge bridging suplex for a two count. The match went back and forth with both men throwing everything at the other with the ring announcer letting them know that time was winding down. Classic tried for the sharpshooter with only seconds to go, and Lethal ended up hanging on as time expired. Both men shook hands after the match having put on a classic (no pun intended, well kinda intended…)
SINGLES MATCH
“Boom Boom” Colt Cabana def. Kenny Omega
Cabana had a lot of fun in this match, getting the crowd behind him as he faced off against the young and talented Omega. Cabana spent a lot of the beginning of the match not taking Omega seriously enough, which nearly cost him as Omega came literally roaring back nailing Cabana with some strong offense and almost pulled out the win with an elevated german suplex, but Cabana was able to roll his shoulder at the last moment. The match continued with Omega getting frustrated that he can’t put the loud mouthed Cabana away. The end came after a wild exchange with Cabana working it into the Colt .45 for the hard fought win. Cabana wasn’t smiling at the end of this one.
3RW TV TITLE #1 CONTENDERS MATCH
“The American Dragon” Bryan Danielson def. “The Prodigy” Mike Bennett w/ “Brutal” Bob
All the rocky-esque training wasn’t enough to help Bennett get the victory in this match up. The American Dragon was in great form knowing just what was on the line, and that’s a shot at Mike Elgin’s TV title at the Battle in the Burgh super show. Bennett used every dirty trick he could to try to even out the experience factor, with “Brutal” Bob barking out orders to help his client. Bennett tried for the Box Office Smash but Danielson was able to counter out and apply the Crossface forcing Bennett to tap out.
Bryan Danielson’s celebration was cut short as Mike Elgin along with Elwood Gately, Elgin raised the TV title into the air sneering menacingly as the show cuts to another commercial break.
SINGLES MATCH
“The Phenomenal” AJ Styles def. John Cena
Cena came into this match with a pretty basic game plan, and that’s to keep Styles on the mat. This worked for the majority of the match as Cena used a lot of basic holds to keep close to Styles and not giving him the space to build momentum. Cena looked dominate as he used some ground and pound to force Styles to cover up, but Styles resolve kept him alive long enough to frustrate Cena who hopped out of the ring, grabbing a steel chair from ringside to use on Styles. Styles was able to pop up and nail a spin kick to the chair driving it into the mush of Cena putting him on the mat as Styles was able to hop to the top rope and nail a corkscrew moonsault to put Cena away!
