"SATURDAY NIGHT WAR"
LOCATION: The Wolstein Center, Cleveland, OH
BROADCAST TEAM: Mike Tenay & Scott Hudson
EVENT DATE: March 23, 2013
After the intro video we head down to ringside, where we are greeted by our announce team, Mike Tenay and Scott Hudson! They do a quick rundown of what will be happening tonight before they are interrupted by the entrance of Chris Hero! Hero has a microphone in hand as he steps into the ring.
Chris Hero:
There have been a lot of... comparisons being thrown around lately. Comparisons of my style to that of, say, Alex Shelley, or a Spanky, two guys I am going on to face tonight in the main event. Two guys teaming up to derail Chris Hero's triumphant run here in War Zone Wrestling. I came here to do what I do best, and that's destroy people in this ring, litter it with human wreckage week in and week out, as I utilize my incomparable skills; and yet, the pundits, the public, the commentators, even the boys in the back, they DARE to try to compare ME two these two? To ANYBODY!? Well tonight... tonight, I correct that error, and I, hopefully, shut everyone up as I emphatically destroy this pairing. To do so, I called up a friend... a man I met years ago, learning from and wrestling for the greatest wrestler of all time, Mitsuharu Misawa... a man who has graced these rings only once, suffering a loss. Hell, he's had a bad run of it elsewhere lately, but tonight, we change that. Tonight, we put these two poseurs in their place, and show them what greatest truly looks like. Tonight, it's Chris Hero and the mighty KENTA who correct everyone, and walk out... in glorious fashion, a wake of broken bodies behind us as our journeys to greatness continue. Stay tuned... you might just learn something.
Hero tosses down the microphone, yelling and smashing his elbow into the top turnbuckle as he goes, seemingly fired up for tonight's main event, as is everyone in the arena tonight.
The Swagger Hounds: Rich Swann & Sonjay Dutt vs. Up In Smoke: Cheech & Cloudy
Really quick and spirited match here, though there were a few botches in the mid-section that made this sag a bit. Swann and Dutt looked like they might have it won after Swann hit a Standing 450 on Cheech, followed by a Bombay Press from Dutt, but Cloudy was able to break things up and save the match for his team. Dutt would fight Cloudy in the middle of the ring, as Cheech nailed a Suicide Dive into a Swinging DDT on Swann on the floor! Dutt would go for the Calcutta Cutter, but Cheech would pull his legs down as he was ascending, pulling him back to Earth and sending him into the middle rope. Cloudy and Cheech were on it... Partly Cloudy with a Chance of Cheech! Cheech pins Dutt and gets the big win!
Mike Tenay:
Very impressive debut for this team Up In Smoke! Their tag team chemistry is very remarkable!
Scott Hudson:
The Swagger Hounds had some of the wind taken out of their sails there, as it looked like they were going to run away with this thing just a few minutes ago, but that's how quickly things can take a turn for the worst here in the War Zone!
Chiva Kid vs. "The Voice of Reason" Eric Ryan
Chiva Kid would start off quick, having the fans behind him because of his colorful character, but Ryan proved to be a bit too much for him with a big clothesline and a string of suppressive mat holds. Chiva would try to rally back, hitting a Coast to Coast Springboard Dropkick to Ryan at one point to get a nearfall, but he would fall victim to Ryan's Failure to Reason (Cross Arm Scoop Brainbuster) and that was all she wrote.
Mike Tenay:
Eric Ryan was absolutely on fire for the majority of this contest, finishing up with that Brainbuster variation he calls the Failure to Reason, and I bet Chiva Kid is going to have a hard time working out any thoughts after getting plowed onto his head like that for quite some time.
Scott Hudson:
I don't think that guy was thinking a whole lot to begin with, judging by his little outfit there. He did have some hops, though, gotta give him some credit for that. He's very quick, but that doesn't mean much when you're getting smashed on top of your head!
Irish Airborne: Dave & Jake Crist vs. Spartan Muscle: 'The Modern Day Spartan" Matt Cross & "Maple Leaf Muscle" Petey Williams
Irish Airborne are Ohio natives making their debuts for War Zone tonight, taking on the popular tandem of Cross and Williams. Cross and Williams were more heel oriented here, which changed the opinions of the fans towards them and had the fans getting behind the Irish by mid-way through. Williams would even trap Dave in the Tree of Woe at one point, stepping on his groin and singing "O Canada" to garner a massive reception of boos from the crowd. The match would come down to a mad array of quick takedowns and kicks, followed by some dives to the outside. Dave and Jake were able to send Cross to the outside and nail a Tombstone/Double Stomp combo to drive Williams into the mat, gaining the pinfall victory tonight!
Mike Tenay:
Oh! Big impact with that finisher, and Williams never had a chance! Talk about karma, there!
Scott Hudson:
Williams and Cross wanted to try and go dirty, but the Irish Airborne were able to tough it out and that was a nasty Tombstone variation that chalked them up a big "W" here tonight!
"The Human Torture Device" Doug Williams vs. "The War King" Eddie Kingston
Doug Williams is an amazing mat wrestler and would use that to his advantage early on. It was only a matter of time, though, before this would degenerate into a brawl, as these two would mouth off just like they did last week and things got ugly. The way these two brawled around the outside, you'd think neither one of them had ever heard of a wrist lock, as this became a good old fashioned pub fight, both men not hesitating to use anything nailed down. Kingston would end up catching Williams with a Yakuza Kick as Williams tried to attack him with a chair, smashing the chair back into his face. From there, Kingston pounded Williams into the ground with elbows and fists, before unleashing on him a wrathful barrage of chair shots, before getting back into the ring. Williams was unable to get up and get back into the ring in a timely manner, causing the referee, who'd played it very loose through out, to have no other choice but to count him out and give the win to Kingston.
Mike Tenay:
Kingston looks satisfied here, as he beat Williams up so bad on the outside the guy couldn't even get back into the ring, just laying in a pool of blood and maybe sustaining from bone fractures tonight.
Scott Hudson:
Ruthless aggression would be putting it mildly, this guy is absolutely vicious and Williams found out that you can't blink for a second with a guy like "The War King" or you could be leaving on a stretcher!
Kingston grabs a microphone.
Eddie Kingston:
You wanna be smug with me, Williams? You and all your little British buddies, everybody jerking off to you pieces of shit, thinkin' your better than somebody? YOU'RE NOTHIN'! Come into my house again, bitch, and get dealt with!
Kingston leaves the ring as the fans cheer him on, while officials and medics tend to Williams on the outside.
"The Death Machine" Chris Dickinson vs. "Die Hard" Eddie Edwards
Dickinson and Edwards have a nice feeling out process early, with Dickinson playing some mindgames in his disturbing sort of fashion, using odd hip gyrations and other little things to sort of throw off the game plan of Edwards. Edwards is one of the toughest and most all around talented guys on the roster, but right up there is Dickinson, who actually had a decent bit of size of Edwards as far as muscle weight goes, and that lead to Dickinson being able to escape many of his suppressive submission and grappling attempts and impose his own will. Edwards would pick up a string of nearfalls which infuriated Dickinson, leading to a brutal onslaught of chops and kicks, finishing up with a Side Mount Suplex for a two count. Edwards would catch Dickinson with a Single Leg Drop as he stormed in for another rampage, stunning "The Death Machine" and Edwards would manage to his a flying Lungblower to get a two count! Edwards would lock on a Dragon Sleeper, trying to get the submission, but Dickinson would power his way up and break free, nailing a Capture Suplex to the awe of the crowd! Dickinson would then pummel Edwards on the mat with slaps and elbows before locking on a Arm Triangle, trying to choke him out. "Die Hard" would live up to his name and make it to the ropes for the break. Dickinson would slip up and find himself rolled into a Half Crab later on, which looked like it could be all, but Dickinson fought for what seemed like forever, but somehow made it to the ropes. Edwards would stomp on him, still holding his leg, and try to reapply it, but Dickinson would somehow spin him into an Inside Cradle for a two count. Dickinson would try a Roundhouse Kick, but Edwards dropped down and then kipped up, nailing a backward Thrust Kick and then attempted his Die Hard finisher, but Dickinson somehow snapped him down with amazing ferocity into a Fujiwara Armbar! Dickinson would then began just blasting Edwards' rotator cup with elbows, trying to snap his arm from his shoulder, before yanking him up... and that's it... BRAIN DRILL, DANGEROUS! Dickinson pins him with his hands over his chest and tongue out, Undertaker style, shaking his head like a madman as the referee counted to three.
Mike Tenay:
My God, what sickening impact, and then that pinfall... this guy is insane!
Scott Hudson:
He is as odd as he is effective... which is very. That was some great back and forth wrestling, but there is just nobody like Chris Dickinson, and tonight his bizarre and violent style earned him a huge pinfall win.
As Dickinson was celebrating, out ran three men in masks who began attacking Dickinson! They began stomping him into the mat mercilessly as another man came walking from the back... it's BJ WHITMER! He's holding a microphone.
BJ Whitmer:
You feeling good, Chris? You feeling strong? I bet that feels good, doesn't it? You like it down there?
The men remove their masks, and it's XAVIER, DAN MAFF, and AZRIEAL!
BJ Whitmer:
I bet you thought you got rid of me, didn't you? And I'll give you props where they are due, but play time is over, Chris. You've called upon me to rise to the occasion, and now I've surrounded myself with friends... with sponsors, if you will, who are here to support me, here to help me rise to the occasion and, most of all, here to take you down! You won a battle, Chris, but the war is far from over! We are your problem now... we are the problem of the whole wrestling world, and they can all thank you for it... we are The Affliction!
These four men pose in the middle of the ring, Whitmer stepping on Dickinson's head as his legs kick on the mat and he screams out in frustration and pain.
Mike Tenay:
My Lord, what does this mean?
Scott Hudson:
I think things are about to get ugly, Mike... and I love it!
"The American Buzzsaw" Chris Sabin & "The Blockbuster!" Johnny Gargano vs. "The Big Deal" Chuck Taylor & "X Rated" Shiima Xion
Xion would come out with even more swagger than usual, Taylor following suit as his usual smug self, not letting any of the fans touch him in any way. Sabin looked pretty on fire to start, something new seemingly rising up in him, while Gargano looked confident yet focused and ready for action, and most of all, ready to get his hands on Taylor, who abandoned him last week and left him to get defeated in their debuts with the company. Taylor would let "X Rated" take the raines first, and Xion put on a clinic early as he and "The American Buzzsaw" had an asolutely jaw dropping sequence of counters and reversals, both men using the ropes and doing some very fast paced stuff, Xion showing a lot of quick and fluid mat work, but Sabin ending it with a Spinning Wheel Kick to send him to the outside, followed by a backward Mule Kick from the apron and an Asai Moonsault to get the fans rocking! From there, Taylor would come in and he and Gargano would stand nose to nose. Taylor would try to iniate a knuckle lock, but Gargano would pummel him with chops and kicks, followed by a big time Spear for a two count. Xion would get back in the ring and catch "The Blockbuster!" with a flying Double High Knee, followed by an Armdrag into a Moified Rolling Prawn Hold, which got a two count. Taylor would nail a Manhattan Drop on Gargano, leading Xion to nail an Inside Leg Lariat, smashing Gargano backwards, but still only getting a two count! Taylor then pulls Gargano into a Curb Stomp position, leading to Xion running and leapfrogging, nailing a Curb-style Double Stomp, totally wrecking the World Jr. Heavyweight Champion! That would have been it, but Sabin springboards in with a Moonsault to break it up! Sabin then kick sweeps Taylor's legs out from under him as he runs at him, catching him with a Front Dropkick to his face as he tries to get up, before catching Xion ith a Drop Toe Hold, followed by a Senton Backsplash to his back, and then hitting a Quebrada as he turns in pain, earning a two count! The match manages to come to an end after more tough exchanges as Taylor catches Gargano on the apron with a Sole Food, stunning him, before Shiima hits a High Double Knee to his back, sending him flying into the guardrail! Xion turns, taunting, but gets caught with a Handspring Gamenjiri from Sabin, earning a two count before Chuck Taylor breaks it up with a Slingshot Elbowdrop! Taylor goes on to deliver the Awful Waffle (Inverted Vertical Drop Michinoku Driver II)! They aren't done, though, as Taylor runs and dives through the ropes, catching Gargano on the outside with a Front Flip Tope as "X Rated" flies off the top, nailing a very high impact Frog Splash he calls The X-Press, doing a cross arm crotch chop taunt halfway through the move for flare... and that's enough to get the pinfall here to win what was a very entertaining match from all.
Mike Tenay:
These guys tried to bring the house down here, and it was Xion and Taylor who came out on top! It could have went either way throughout, but the grit and urgency just seemed to be with the team of Chuckie T. and "X Rated."
Scott Hudson:
You could just tell that these two had gone over the game plan more so than their opponents, even busting out some really creative tag team moves that made them look very polished. Xion was sporting an even meaner streak than usual, even though Sabin was bringing a lot of heat and fire we haven't seen from him thus far... really stellar output, with Taylor and Xion picking up what had to be considered an upset victory tonight. Bravo, guys, bravo!
"The Abstract" Alex Shelley & Spanky vs. Chris Hero & KENTA
The fans would show a lot of respect for the returning KENTA, throwing streamers at the beginning of this contest. Shelley would start the match off against the Japanese star, tying up with him and getting the better of him in a couple of quick chain wrestling exchanges, leading to KENTA simply slapping Shelley across the face and brutalizing him with leg kicks until he went and tagged out to Spanky. KENTA and Spanky then exchanged some blows, Spanky weathering some blistering shots and bombarding KENTA with inside elbows, before hitting a Dropkick to send him out of the ring. KENTA and Spanky would brawl momentarily before Hero ran and did a Front Flip Senton right on Spanky, smashing him on the outside and getting some cheers from the fans! This lead to Shelley taking a dive, nailing a Corkscrew Moonsault Suicida onto pretty much everybody, getting an even bigger pop! KENTA had tumbled over the railing due to this, but he made his way back over in style, jumping up on the railing and flying at Spanky, hitting a big Flying Knee to his chest to send him down hard! Back in the ring, it's Hero and Shelley, which Shelley decides to turn up the heat and start striking of his own, laying into Hero with chops and forearm shots. Hero, however, shakes them off and starts blasting him with short elbows, trying for a Rolling Elbow, but Shelley manages to duck that and go for a Belly to Back Suplex... Hero flips over and lands on his feet, but Shelley with a backwards Thrust Kick, followed by a Springboard Crossbody, getting a two count! KENTA runs in and Shelley catches him with a Japanese armdrag, proclaiming "ICHIBAN!" as he holds him in an Armbar and raises his left index finger, getting a cheer from the crowd! Hero breaks it up with a kick to the mush, though. Spanky and Shelley try to end the match later, nailing a Double Sliced Bread #2 on Hero, but as Spanky goes to pin, KENTA slides in with a dropkick to break it up. Shelley tries to attack, but KENTA bursts with the KENTA Rush, followed by his Buisaiku Knee Kick! KENTA then tries to run at Spanky, but Spanky ducks it and tries to send him over with a Backdrop. KENTA lands on the apron, kicking Spanky in the head and pulling him through the ropes. The two exchange blows until KENTA nails a Spinnning Back Chop, and then picks him up on his shoulders... GO 2 SLEEP OFF THE APRON! HUGE MOVE! Shelley gets up and Hero is up, trying for the Rolling Elbow but Shelley ducks it, hits a Superkick and then goes for the ShellShock, but Hero twists and escapes, grabbing "The Abstract's" head from behind and hitting ONE BEHIND THE EAR! Shelley is down momentarily, but gets back up... only to get smashed with a Rolling Elbow! Hero isn't done, though, stomping in the corner, goading Shelley to get up. Shelley gets up, a wild look in his eye and his fists clenched. He looks half out of it, but he's running on fumes... and it's over... CYCLONE KILL! Hero hits his Discus Big Boot, and Shelley is flipped inside out by the impact! Hero gets the pinfall win, as KENTA makes sure Spanky stays outside.
Mike Tenay:
Huge win for Hero and KENTA! Hero lands that amazing kick, and Shelley had no prayer of kicking out of that!
Scott Hudson:
Hero comes through in the clutch and shows his opponents what he's got. This guy has such a huge arsenal, you can't prepare for him, you can't do much but hope to catch him off guard, and here's something to know about Chris Hero... this guy always has his guard up! He is maybe the most dangerous man in wrestling, and he got a big win tonight. Great showing by all, though, no doubt about it!
Mike Tenay:
For Scott Hudson, I'm Mike Tenay... we hope you enjoyed, and we'll see you next week, right here on WAR!
