NWA Hybrid Pro TV 19/07/2013
The NEW NWA North American Tag Team Champions The Pistols make their way to the ring to a standing ovation from the fans. Big "Pistols" chants from the fans here, quite a turnaround for a group who until recently were despised for their arrogance and attitude towards older wrestlers. As per usual, Matt Taven is doing the talking
Taven: I appreciate the response, because you see we've worked long and hard to get these titles. Every wrestler we've taken out, every word we've said and action we've taken was all with one aim in mind: taking the top spots in the NWA away from the old dinosaurs. And with these title belts, we now have some of those spots, and it feels damn good!
Taven hands the mic to Mike Bennett.
Bennett: But now, the real challenge begins. The Faces of Fear were tough opponents and deserving champions, who had a dominant run with the titles, but we want to top them. We want to hold these belts for longer, have more title defences and be the greatest NWA North American Tag Team Champions of all time!
Tommaso Ciampa then takes the mic
Ciampa: We also bring one other aspect to these belts: the Freebird rule. You could be facing any one of us at anytime. One night it could be me and Mike tearing you apart, the next Samuray and Zack can outspeed you, we have a lot of options to take down any opponent!
Brian Cage then takes the mic. Big "Brian Cage" chants start up.
Cage: But now that we hold these belts, our status as Hybrid Pro Tag Team Champions becomes more tricky. We could defend both sets of titles, but instead we want to give someone else a chance to be champions, it creates competition for us, the best set of young talent on the planet today. Thats why we are vacating the Hybrid Pro Tag Team Titles immediately! The winners of those belts had better be ready however, because they will be coming up against an Unstoppable FN Machine and an unstoppable group of Pistols!
Cage throws down the mic and The Pistols leave, they are going to be great North American Tag Team Champions we hope. And who will win the now vacant Hybrid Pro Tag Team Titles?
Mayhem Match #2
Katsuhiko Nakajima vs "Golden Star" Kota Ibushi vs Zack Sabre Jr
What a fantastic opening contest this proved to be. The two newly signed Japanese talents wanted to impress as much as possible here, and indeed earn a spot in the Annihilator matchup alongside Paul London. Sabre more than held his own with the two Japanese talents, his matwork being particularly strong, while Nakajima also took to the mat and threw some nasty strikes. Ibushi dazzled with his high flying skill, but he went to the top one too many times, as Sabre leapt up and took him down with a German Suplex from the top. Nakajima and Sabre battled back and forth, before Sabre locked Nakajima in the Cross Armbreaker to score what some may call an upset.
Winner- Zack Sabre Jr
Winner Represents Canada in World Cup of Wrestling
Kenny Omega vs Petey Williams vs Michael Elgin
This was another great combination of talent, you had the high flying skill of Omega, the mat skills of Williams and the power and all around raw ability of Elgin, which combined to make for an excellent matchup. The standard was so high here that the match almost went to the 15 minute time limit set, meaning these three would have likely been pklaying "rock, paper, scissors" to decide who represented Canada, but when it counted someone stepped up to the plate: Michael Elgin. Elgin managed to grab Williams, lift him up and drop him with a massive Revolution Elgin Bomb, and there was no way Williams was kicking out of that. Elgin will represent Canada.
Winner- Michael Elgin
Winner Represents American in World Cup of Wrestling
Brodie Lee vs Chris Hero vs Low-Ki
Again another fantastic 3 way pairing. The story here was Hero and Lee battling away with some big strikes and trying to take each other down, ignoring the smaller Low-Ki and using their size advantage to take him out of the equation whenever he got involved. When it came to it, neither Lee nor Hero truly had an advantage, but Lee got a lucky Big Boot in which knocked Hero loopy, sending him outside the ring. Low-Ki charged in and took full advantage of the tired Lee, locking him in the Dragon Clutch. Lee did everything he could to escape, but had no choice but to tap. Low-Ki will represent America.
Winner- Low-Ki
Winner Represents Puerto Rico in World Cup of Wrestling
Eddie Kingston vs Homicide
While this matchup ended up being pretty short, lasting less than 10 minutes, what we got in that time between these two Ring Warriors stars was fantastic, as intense a brawl as you will see between two men who are passionate and want to represent Puerto Rico. The match went back and forth, and Kingston showed a lot of heart, refusing to go down after three Lariats from Homicide. He went for one more, but Kingston avoided it and went for a Backfist, which Homicide avoided. Homicide then nailed the Ace Crusher, and Kingston couldn't kick out of that, Homicide will represent Puerto Rico!
Winner- Homicide
Homicide celebrates his win, but before he can the lights go out and some familiar music begins to play.
Samoa Joe then makes his way out to the ring as the fans go crazy. Loud "Joe" chants break out as Joe gets a mic.
Joe: I was backstage just looking through the list of participants in the World Cup of Wrestling, and I have to admit, there's some pretty big stars competing in this tournament. But I did notice one big ommision: Samoa. While such glorious places like The Phillipines and Puerto Rico get recognition, my home country has been left out despite its rich wrestling heritage. I'm not going to stand for it, so I have a challenge for you Homicide. Face me in a match right here, right now. If you win, I'll accept that Samoa doesn't deserve to be in the World Cup of Wrestling. But if I win, you give up your spot in the tournament to me. Are you man enough to accept my challenge?
Homicide nods to say he accepts, and Joe throws down the mic, meaning the match is on.
Samoa Joe vs Homicide
Now if Homicide was 100% fresh, he would have given Joe a massive fight that could have gone any way, we have seen this in the past. But Homicide was coming off of an intense, albeit short war with Eddie Kingston, so really the longer this match went the chances of Homicide pulling the win out decreased. He gave it a real go, throwing punches, firing away with Lariats and doing anything he could to take Joe down, but nothing had a lasting effect on him. Joe retaliated with slaps, kicks, forearms and power, destroying Homicide at times who struggled to keep up with his fresh opponent. Joe got Homicide up for a Muscle Buster, almost parading around the ring with Homicide in toe, then dropped him to get 3 and send Samoa into the World Cup of Wrestling.
Winner- Samoa Joe
After the wrestlers had left, Hybrid Pro owner Magnus D came out to reveal the representatives for the World Cup of Wrestling next week. They will be as follows-
Canada- Michael Elgin (South Beach)
England- William Regal (Ring Warriors)
Ghana- Kofi Kingston (South Beach)
Greece- Papadon (Ring Warriors)
India- Sonjay Dutt (Ring Warriors)
Iran- Shawn Daivari (Ring Warriors)
Ireland- Sheamus (CPW)
Japan- Takeshi Morishima (Hybrid Pro)
Mexico- Ultimo Guerrero (Mexico)
Phillipines- Shiima Xion (Ring Warriors)
Russia- Alex Koslov (Ring Warriors)
Samoa- Samoa Joe (Hybrid Pro)
South Africa- Justin Gabriel (CPW)
Switzerland- Antonio Cesaro (Hybrid Pro)
Syria- Sami Zayn (Hybrid Pro)
United States- Low-Ki (South Beach)
All Stars Match #3
Mark Briscoe vs CM Punk
Mark Briscoe made it to this match as a former NWA World Tag Team Champion, while Punk's reign as NWA World Heavyweight Champion brought him to this matchup. Punk was definitely the superior wrestler here, there's no denying that, but Briscoe was willing to do just about anything to win this, even if it was more through a desire to fight (and his questionable sanity) rather than to win the matchup. Briscoe took one too many risks when he missed a Shooting Star Press, nearly landing on his neck in the process, and Punk took full advantage by locking an Anaconda Vice, forcing Briscoe to tap.
Winner- CM Punk
All Stars Match #4
Harry Smith vs Ted Dibiase
Both men got here as former NWA World Tag Team Champions. A battle of two top class CPW talents here as Smith was definitely the fan favourite, a former Hybrid Pro competitor who always showed a lot of promise. And we got a lot of solid matwork here as you would expect, combined with the power of Smith and the ring smarts of Dibiase, which made for an all round solid matchup. And Smith pulled out a big win to advance, dropping Dibiase with a Running Powerslam to get the 3 count
Winner- Harry Smith
The Prophecy make their way out to the ring before our main event, and Matthews has something to say.
Matthews: Before I unleash hell on a broken down old Japanese man, I want to introduce you all to the newest member of The Prophecy. You see, in order to truly dominate the NWA, we have to extend our vision outside of the United States, and bring in the worlds best wrestlers. Thats why I scoured the globe to find a man with the mindset to make an impact in The Prophecy, and I found him in Mexico. Ladies and gentleman, please welcome the newest member of The Prophecy, the World Champion of all of Mexico, El Gran Luchadore!!!
Some very stereotypical Mexican music plays as El Gran Luchadore makes his way out, pointing for all he is worth and dancing all the way down the ramp. This has to be a joke, if Kyle Matthews has really hired this goofball to be a member of The Prophecy ahead of Bray Wyatt, then he's lost his mind entirely. Even the other members of The Prophecy look perplexed with his decision. Matthews on the other hand just grins sadistically, what does he have up his sleeve?
NWA World Heavyweight Title Match
"The Antichrist of Professional Wrestling" Kyle Matthews w/The Prophecy vs "The Great Muta" Keiji Mutoh
This was one of the more intriguing World Title matches we've seen on TV in quite some time, you had the former World Champion Keiji Mutoh challenging for the belt for what could be the last time, taking on the "antichrist" Kyle Matthews. And Mutoh didn't show any kind of fear, Mutoh beat the champion last week and believed that he could do it again, taking the fight to the champ for much of this matchup. Matthews showed his vicious side when he could, trying to snap the arm of Mutoh and put him in the Hidaka Lock, but just couldn't sinch the hold. And when Mutoh managed to nail the Shining Wizard, it looked like we would have a new champ, that was until Dan Maff pulled the referee out and drops him with a Clothesline! The Prophecy charge the ring, and Mutoh fights back, dropping Swagger, Maff, Azrieal and Dinero to the canvas. El Gran Luchadore then attacks, but Mutoh grabs him by the mask AND RIPS IT OFF TO REVEAL THE GREAT MUTA! Mutoh is stunned, GREEN MIST TO MUTOH! Wait a minute, I recognise who that is behind the facepaint, THATS PAUL LONDON, PAUL LONDON HAS JOINED THE PROPHECY! Matthews lock the Hidaka Lock as the referee slowly recovers, and calls for the bell as Mutoh taps.
Winner- Kyle Matthews
Matthews refuses to let go of the hold as The Prophecy join in the beatdown, while London stands in the corner, a cheesy yet slightly psychotic grin on his face. Maff and Swagger then hold Mutoh on the canvas by his arms as London walks over, stand over him AND SPITS MIST INTO HIS FACE AGAIN! London lets out a crazed laugh as Matthews applauds, and London goes to the top rope. LONDONS CALLING! Mutoh lies knocked out on the canvas as Matthews takes the mic again.
Matthews: Did you honestly think I was stupid enough to hire some random luchadore? No, the man who's joining us tonight is someone who has been held down and overlooked for far too long, a man who The Prophecy will help to fulfil his dream. He is Paul London!
London takes the mic as the fans boo.
London: So its come to this. All I wanted was a chance. All I wanted was to prove I could be a top guy in the NWA. All I wanted was a match with you Danielson. Well Paul London is done being Mr Nice Guy and Paul London is done being an afterthought. I am going to prove to you all that I can fufill my potential, and that means beating you Danielson. I dare you to ignore me and The Prophecy, because if you do, it'll be the last move you ever make. Your mine Dragon, you will give me the match I want, I don't care if the belt is on the line or not, I just want to prove I'm better than you've ever been!
The Prophecy pose above the unconscious Keiji Mutoh as the fans boo and the show ends.
