I don't think this was as good as the last show, but hopefully its still an enjoyable read as we crown our first NWA World Tag Team Champions.
The National Wrestling Alliance Presents: NWA Showcase #2 Live on PPV![/u]
Good evening and welcome to the second NWA Showcase PPV, live in The PowerBlance Arena in Sacramento, California. Tonight's event focuses around the NWA World Tag Team Titles, with the first ever champions set to be crowned this evening. Also on tonight's show, we will have a huge NWA World Heavyweight Title match as Sheamus and Alberto Del Rio clash for the third time, this time a No Holds Barred contest where anything and everything is legal. Let's get straight into the tournament with our first round matches.
Your announcers for this evening are CPW's announcing team of Arn Anderson, Michael Cole and Taz.
NWA World Tag Team Title Tournament First Round Match
Money Inc (Robert Roode and Ted Dibiase) vs Pure Dynamite (Josh Daniels and John Walters)
This was CPW vs CPW with Pure Dynamite having recently joined the promotion from NWA Impact, and this was a great technical match to start the show. Daniels and Walters looked as crisp as always on the mat, and held an experience advantage as a team which they used to their advantage. Roode and Dibiase however had a lot of tricks up their sleeves, distracting the referee to stop Walters making a hot tag to Daniels and Dibiase even made use of bass knuckles at one point. Daniels got a brief flurry of offense in after a hot tag, but was quickly cut off by Roode who nailed the Spear which was enough for the victory.
Winners- Money Inc
NWA World Tag Team Title Tournament First Round Match
Strong Style Thugs (Homicide and Low-Ki) vs The Nexus (Darren Young and Justin Gabriel) w/Heath Slater
The Nexus had a notable advantage over their fellow competitors in this tournament, as they had chosen to use the Freebird rule of having all 3 of their members entered in the tournament. And with Heath Slater also at ringside, The Nexus were able to control this match as a result. The Thugs did look good however, as Low-Ki hat some vicious kicks and strikes, and Homicide took the fight to the entire Nexus, but in the end the odds were just a bit too much as Gabriel nailed the 450 on Homicide to help The Nexus advance.
Winners- The Nexus
NWA World Tag Team Title Tournament First Round Match
LAX (Hernandez and Anarquia) vs Act of God (Takashi Sugiura and Masato Tanaka)
This was a really fun match, with a real mixture of styles. The exchanges between Hernandez and Anarquia were reminiscent of the battle between Tanaka and his old rival Mike Awesome, with Hernandez dropping him with power moves but Tanaka refusing to give up. Sugiura on the other hand looked to keep the match on the mat, and Anarquia brawled, exchanging some big strikes with the Japanese team. However LAX managed to battle their way past their opponent to advance, as Hernandez dropped Tanaka with the Border Toss and that finally kept him down.
Winners- LAX
NWA World Tag Team Title Tournament First Round Match
Swiss Money Holdings (Claudio Castagnoli and Ares) vs Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley)
This could definitely be seen as a dream match, as two of the most technically skilled tag teams in the world did battle in this one. And as you would expect, the two teams exchanged lots of mat based offense, with holds and counter hold done back and forth, but each team had other strengths that it worked into the match. Swiss Money Holdings were slightly taller and heavier than their opponents, so were able to put power to use, but MCMG had the speed advantage so used some big high flying moves. MCMG managed to advance, hitting Ares with the ASCS Rush and Shelley covered him for the 3 count.
Winners- MCMG
NWA World Tag Team Title Tournament First Round Match
The Revolution (Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly) w/Johnny Gargano and Eddie Edwards vs Team Weed (Rob Van Dam and Jeff "Meth" Hardy) w/Spanky Kendrick
These two teams have been feuding in NWA UK in recent times, as The Revolution won the NWA UK Tag Team Titles from Team Weed in controversial circumstances at The Royal Fumble, when Eddie Edwards interfered on The Revolution's behalf. The belts were not on the line here, but Team Weed were still looking for revenge, not only to advance in the tournament, but to one up The Revolution ahead of the 3 way match at Entertainmentmania. After a fun, high flying match, Gargano distracted the referee as Edwards smashed RVD's ankle with a chair, and O'Reilly locked in the Anklelock to make him tap out.
Winners- The Revolution
NWA World Tag Team Title Tournament First Round Match
The Can Am Express (David Hart Smith and Kurt Angle) vs Super Smash Bros (Player Uno and Player Dos)
The final first round match turned out to be fairly one sided, as The Can Am Express dominated this one, outwrestling their opponents with considerable ease. After 5 fairly one sided minutes, Angle hit the Angle Slam on Dos and then made him tap out in the Anklelock.
Winners- The Can Am Express
The NWA Board Of Directors draw the second round matches backstage, and the draw works out as follows-
NWA World Tag Team Title Tournament Second Round Match
Money Inc (Robert Roode and Ted Dibiase) vs Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley)
A fantastic match here, again it took on a pretty similar feel to MCMG's first round match, in that while there was a lot of mat wrestling, MCMG had the speed advantage and Money Inc had the power and size advantage. But at the same time, with Money Inc's various dirty tricks, the match was a lot more of a brawl, getting very heated at times and going all around the ringside area. With the match going over 20 minutes, and both teams exchanging near fall after near fall, Money Inc eventually advanced when Dibiase nailed Dream Street on Shelley.
Winners- Money Inc
We are backstage with The Revolution, who have just come out of the Board of Directors office. Arn Anderson is set to interview them.
Anderson: Johnny Gargano, what were you doing in there, what's going on?
Gargano: What I was doing in there was evening the odds a little bit. You see The Nexus think that they've outsmarted everyone by using this Freebirds rule, allowing themselves to switch one person out each match. Well if they can do it, why can't The Revolution do it. That's why I've just gotten a ruling from the Board of Directors, and now its official, The Revolution will be using the Freebirds rule. Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly will be relaxing on the sidelines for the next match, and instead myself and Eddie Edwards will take on the Can-Am Express.
The Revolution head away to the ring, and this is going to be a huge advantage for The Revolution, effectively being able to rest their main entrants in Cole and O'Reilly from what is sure to be a very challenging match against The Can-Am Express.
NWA World Tag Team Title Tournament Second Round Match
LAX (Hernandez and Anarquia) vs The Nexus (Darren Young and Heath Slater) w/Justin Gabriel
This was very similar to the first round match involving the Nexus, as with the extra member at ringside they were able to control the match, but nowhere near as much as they could in the first round with the power of Hernandez to deal with. We also saw arguably the craziest spot of the night as Hernandez hat Young with the Border Toss OVER THE TOP ROPE, landing on Gabriel at ringside! Despite that insane move, LAX much like the Strong Style Thugs just couldn't compete with the numbers game in the end, as Slater hat the E-minor on Anarquia to put him down for 3.
Winners- The Nexus
NWA World Tag Team Title Tournament Second Round Match
Can-Am Express (David Hart Smith and Kurt Angle) vs The Revolution (Johnny Gargano and Eddie Edwards) w/Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly
As much as The Can-Am Express had an easy first round match, they had prepared to face Cole and O'Reilly, not Gargano and Edwards, so they were at an instant disadvantage. This combined with the constant interference on the outside by Cole and O'Reilly, and the odds were most definitely stacked against Smith and Angle. They however more than put up a good fight, outwrestling their younger opponents when it came to holds and counter holds, and even managing to fight off Cole and O'Reilly on the outside. Finally when the referee wasn't looking, Gargano nailed Angle in the back of the head with one of the NWA UK Tag belts, hits a Hurts Donut onto the belt, and pinned a busted open Angle for a shocking victory!
Winners- The Revolution
Post match before The Revolution could do anything else, Magnus D came out and said that this is not what he had told them they could do when he said that they could use the Freebird rule. While this victory would stand, Gargano and Edwards could not only play no further part in the tournament, they were banned from ringside for the semi final and (if they made it) the final! The Revolution are furious about this, but this is fair, they should not have been allowed to do this in the first place.
The NWA Board of Directors are again shown, this time they are to draw the semi finals, along with the 4th team who are set to get a second chance in the tournament. Firstly, the 4th team is drawn, and that team is.....The Motor City Machine Guns! They get a huge opportunity to redeem themselves here after a hard fought loss to Money Inc. Now here is the semi final draw
A recap of Alberto Del Rio's promo from CPW Breakdown on the 9th is shown, here is what Alberto Del Rio had to say about tonight's match with Sheamus-
"We see CPW Champion ADR in a pub. He is walking around and asks the bar keep for a drink. The 'tender give him a glass and pours him a tall drink. ADR takes a sip, and spits it out, spraying it all over the barkeep, who starts to look a bit pissed. ADR asked what that was. He was told it was the best beer in all of Ireland. ADR asked if that is how a Guinness' tastes, then he will pass. The bartender looks a little more irritated at this point. ADR is told it is called 'Beamish Stout'. the best of the best. ADR then asks for a shot or two of Tequila Arette Gran Clase Anejo. ADR shoots them and then leave, leaving 2 cents on the bar as a tip, at this point pissing off the bartender, but ADR hardly cares as he leaves and walks outside. As he walks outside we see the location: Comiskeys Pub in downtown Cabra, Dublin. ADR asks Sheamus if he knows this place, then answers he should. It is where he got a lot of 'firsts' in life. His first drinking lesson. His first lesson in "love" with the town wench. His first ass kicking from the school bully. His first arrest for being in a drunken brawl. ADR then said that many of the town... peasants remember him as the 'Short chubby pale kid'. ADR said it was fitting that at the NWA Showcase he will be in a No Holds Barred Brawl, so he can show Sheamus how far he really hasn't come over the years. The fight for the NWA Championship will be a throwback to his first fight... a complete and utter blow out, with She-puss on the losing end, being consoled by some "suelta labios vagabundo". ADR then told Sheamus to relax, enjoy his time as champion. Soon when the two meet, it will be the fight of the year."
NWA World Tag Team Title Tournament Semi Final Match
The Nexus (Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater) vs Money Inc (Robert Roode and Ted Dibiase)
Possibly to prove a point to The Revolution, Darren Young was not at ringside for this match, either that or he was still suffering the after effects of being Border Tossed over the top rope in the previous round. Either way, the Nexus and Money Inc battled on a level playing field here, and it was a great match between two very solid teams. In terms of double team moves, Gabriel and Slater were definitely superior, as well as when it came to high flying, but on the mat and brawling wise, Money Inc were superior, and again had a lot of tricks up their sleeve to slow down their opponents. Gabriel got a big flurry of offense going after a hot tag, and went up top for the 450 on Roode, but he moved out of the way and Gabriel smashed into the canvas. Roode begged for Gabriel to get up, then hat the Spear and that was enough to down him as Money Inc reach the final!
Winners- Money Inc
We cut to what looks like a gym, where Sheamus is relaxing with a can of Guinness.
Sheamus: "So I hear that Mexican fella Alberto Del Rio has been talking about me again. You talked about how I was the pale, chubby kid at my school who got beat up by the school bully. Del Rio, do you honestly think anyone ever bullied me fella? I was the school bully, in fact I was the most infamous school bully in Irish history. I got expelled from my school for Brogue Kicking 20 kids in 1 morning, then I drank a pint of Guinness and kicked the teacher's arse to. I was only 7 at the time.
The thing about you Del Rio is that while you talk a good game, you just can't back it up in the ring like I can fella. Why's that you ask? Because while your driving around in expensive cars and drinking cocktails, I train and work hard at my craft, I travel all around the world defending my belt, kicking arse and drinking as much Guinness as I can get my hands on. And as a result, I've kicked your arse not just once, but twice already. A third time will be a piece of cake, or should that be a pint of Guinness? Either way, tonight you won't have any excuses Del Rio, there's no rules, and when I kick your arse for the third time, you'll have to admit what everybody knows already, that its fella time!"
NWA World Tag Team Title Tournament Semi Final Match
The Revolution (Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly) vs Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin)
What an incredible match we had here, without any ringside distractions or anything else to ruin things, these two teams were able to put on an absolute wrestling clinic that brought the crowd to its feet. The two teams were very similar in style, and absolute equals for each other in every department, from submission and counters, to high flying and double team moves, it was near impossible to pick a winner. The big defining factor however was the fact that The Revolution pairing had rested in the 2nd round, and as a result when the match got into its latter stages, Sabin and Shelley were both considerably more tired than Cole and O'Reilly, and that played the match into their hands. O'Reilly put Sabin in the Anklelock, and was able to make him tap out, as The Revolution reach the final!
Winners- The Revolution
NWA World Heavyweight Title Match, No Holds Barred
Sheamus "Fella (c) vs Alberto Del Rio
Well I think we all knew exactly what to expect from this match, that being two men who do not like each other beating the hell out of one another with anything and everything they could find, from weapons to their own fists. Before the match even begun Sheamus downed two cans of Guinness, then started the match by attacking Del Rio with the cans. Del Rio gained control when he used a chair, then taped some coins to his fist and punched away at Sheamus with them, busting him open. Del Rio continued to work away on the wound, busting it open further with a kendo stick, another chair shot and even a wine glass from a pre-match drink he had. Del Rio locked in the Cross Armbar and tried to make Sheamus pass out from the pain, as he couldn't use the ropes to escape, even holding onto a variation of the hold as Sheamus escaped the ring. Sheamus lifted Del Rio up however and put him through the announcers table! This gave him time to recover and make a fightback, but Del Rio cut him off with another brutal chairshot, then smashed Sheamus's arm with the chair and locked the hold in again. Sheamus nearly passed out, but made it to his feet, threw Del Rio off the ropes and hat the Brogue Kick! He stumbled outside the ring and grabbed a table, set it up and he and Del Rio battled over who was going through it. Sheamus managed to lift Del Rio up with the last of his strength into position for the Celtic Cross, and put him through the table with the move, pinning him to retain the title!
Winner- Sheamus "Fella"
Sheamus celebrated with a post match beer bash, getting thrown a few cans of Guinness from the crowd. He offered one to Del Rio, who chose to spit in Sheamus's face, so Sheamus nailed another Brogue Kick! Sheamus downed some more Guinness before leaving, as we are now ready for the main event.
NWA World Tag Team Title Tournament Final- Money Inc (Robert Roode and Ted Dibiase) vs The Revolution (Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly)
Money Inc have been very impressive throughout the tournament, and despite their impressive win the in the previous round you have to question whether The Revolution should be here after what they pulled in the second round. And Money Inc looked fantastic in this one, dominating much of the match against their much younger opponents, and surprisingly had the crowd on their side. The Revolution had a real mean streak here though, Cole was willing to die if necessary to take down his opponents, and O'Reilly's kicks and submissions were vicious, as he worked over Dibiase's ankle with ruthless efficiency.
It was the later stages however that decided how this match was going to go, and they were very controversial. Roode accidentally irish whipped Cole into the referee, who got knocked down. With no referee to disqualify them, Johnny Gargano and Eddie Edwards ran out to prepare to assault Money Inc 4 on 2. BUT HERE COMES CHUCK TAYLOR! Taylor gets in the ring and shouts down Gargano and the rest of The Revolution, and is ready to help even the odds. AWFUL WAFFLE TO ROODE! Taylor laughs and shakes hands with Gargano, he was with them all along! With Roode out of the picture, The Revolution assault Dibiase 5 on 1, this is a mauling and he doesn't stand a chance! O'Reilly puts Dibiase in the Anklelock, Cole revives the referee and he calls for the bell as Dibiase is out cold. The Revolution have stolen the belts!
Winners- NEW NWA World Tag Team Champions, The Revolution
Post match the crowd are furious as The Revolution lift up the belts, then beatdown Roode and Dibiase some more. Gargano gets the microphone.
Gargano: What we did here tonight is a message to all the old guys hogging the limelight, your time is over now, and its time to step aside for the next generation of professional wrestler. You see love us or hate us, we are undeniably the 5 best young wrestlers on the planet right now, and our 5 title belts back that up. There have been a lot of dominant groups in wrestling history, from The Four Horsemen and The New World Order, to The Main Event Mafia and Evolution. And we, The Revolution, are the newest group set to join that legacy, we will cement our place at the very top for years to come, and if anyone thinks they can stop us, we dare you to take the challenge. Our revolution has only just begun, and will not be complete until we have cemented our place in history as the most dominant wrestling faction ever. Because if your not part of The Revolution, you will become part of the past!
The Revolution lift their hands in victory one more time, each holding a title belt, as the crowd boo loudly, and the PPV comes to an end.
