So there were bits of this show I had planned out all week and really enjoyed writing, and then the rest kind of got put on the backburner, yet somehow it has worked out as I finished the show and I'm quite pleased with this show overall. Though I will say this show dips a fair bit into the more comedic side of my writing again, something I've not done for a while. Anyway, let me know your thoughts.
NWA Hybrid Pro TV 16/08/2013
Kyle Matthews and The Prophecy are in the ring to begin the show.
Matthews: Hey Johnny, well done on last week. You well and truly proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that just like every other man I've faced, you can't beat me clean in the middle of the ring. You pinned me 1-2-3 no doubt, but had it not been for the video distraction you clearly setup, I would have broken your arm with the Hidaka Lock and ended this little game once and for all. This is why I will not defend this belt in a Hybrid Pro ring, because not a single man can fight me fair or beat me cleanly!
The fans boo, clearly not believing Matthews' big words.
Matthews: But something else has sparked my interest with you lately Gargano. Two weeks ago you talked about a so called "evil" that you had to embrace to defeat my evil, and last week, you talked about how "time was on your side". Well if you think time is on your side, your very wrong, because time always has been and always will be on MY side. And when it comes down to it, when the buzzards swarm across the wrestling landscape and judgement day begins on August 25th, time will run out for the NWA and this organisation will be history!
Matthews leaves after speaking some very big words, but we still don't really know what he's talking about. I guess we will find out who's side time is on soon enough.
3 Way Tag Team Match
The Briscoes (Jay and Mark Briscoe) vs The Pistols (Samuray Del Sol and Tony Nese) vs The Group (Kenny King and Rhett Titus)
The Briscoes have really floundered since losing the World Tag Team Titles to Future Shock several months ago, they just haven't had any luck to speak of and thats continued into Hybrid Pro. The Pistols dup may have been inexperienced, but they more than held their own and looked like a really well oiled machine despite this particular duo never teaming before. And The Group also looked as good as ever, King and Titus are an experienced team and very difficult to match at their best. The Briscoes looked like they had this in the bag, as they hit their Spike Jay Driller on Titus, but Del Sol threw Mark out of the ring and Nese grabbed Jay and dropped him with a Reverse Piledriver. That ended up being enough to pin Jay, and what a win for Nese, pinning a former World Tag Team Champion, albeit one who is on a losing streak at present.
Winners- The Pistols
"Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce makes his way to the ring, and gets a mic.
Pearce: Last week, with 1 Piledriver on the floor, I put Sami Zayn on the shelf. If he has any sense, he won't come back, because he's proven that he's nothing more than the gymnast I said he was. He can't hang in the ring with a real old-school wrestler, a man who truly had to work hard for everything he got. But my mission isn't over, you see this business that I love is filled with these pathetic gymnasts who think that flips and flops are a good replacement for actual wrestling holds, and I won't rest until these "men" are gone from my sport forever. So here is my challenge, if any "vanilla midgets" are backstage that think they can beat the Scrap Daddy, come out here and prove it, and if you can, maybe you'll have done enough to earn a spot here in Hybrid Pro. If not then you can go and practice your backflips some more, or better still work on your wrestling skills because you don't belong in Adam Pearce's ring!
Pearce throws down the mic and waits, the challenge eventually being accepted by none other than Jigsaw. Pearce laughs as the masked man makes his way to the ring for the matchup.
"Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce vs Jigsaw
Perhaps not the one sided contest you would expect, Jigsaw gave a good account of himself here and got some big offence in on Pearce, who perhaps took Jigsaw a bit too lightly. Indeed at one point Jigsaw was able to go for the Jig N'Tonic, but couldn't setup Pearce who threw him off. Pearce then dropped Jigsaw with a Piledriver and went for the cover, but pulled Jigsaw up. He lifted Jigsaw up again and dropped him with a second Piledriver, went for the cover, but pulled him up again as the referee threatens to DQ Pearce. Pearce lifts up the deadweight Jigsaw and carries him to the top rope, and goes up there with him, what in the hell is he planning. PILEDRIVER FROM THE MIDDLE ROPE! Pearce goes for the cover and this was sick, Pearce wanted to end the career of Jigsaw and he might have done so here.
Winner- Adam Pearce
Pearce celebrates as Jigsaw is attended to by medical officials, and has to be carried out on a stretcher. As Jigsaw gets carried out, PEARCE ATTACKS HIM AGAIN! He knocks Jigsaw off the stretcher and grabs him again, please dear god no! PILEDRIVER ON THE FLOOR! What a sick man Pearce is, Jigsaw was already hurt and now he might be crippled. I can understand Pearce's side, but this is going too far and somebody has to stop him.
6 Man Tag Team Match
The Prophecy (Dan Maff, "The Pope" D'Angelo Dinero and Jack Swagger) vs Da Baldies (Antonio Cesaro, Luke Gallows and Giant Bernard)
The Prophecy may have been together longer, but Da Baldies have caused nothing short of chaos since they formed a few weeks ago, and The prophecy didn't honestly look like they had an answer for them for much of this matchup. Da Baldies had the entire crowd behind them, as they spent the matchup more fighting The Prophecy than wrestling them, which is the approach you have to take with a group that dangerous. And when weapons got brought into the matchup, the referee decided to let it go, letting these two faction settle the score their way. Following the resulting carnage, Cesaro managed to put Dinero through a table with a Neutralizer, and that got him 3 and another big win!
Winners- Da Baldies
Da Baldies weren't done however, taking their seemingly signature singapore canes and proceeding to cane the hell out of all three of their opponents, the rest of The Prophecy being nowhere to be found. Da Baldies leave with their canes raised as The Prophecy lie in a pool of their own blood.
NWA Hybrid pro Heavyweight Title Match
"The Machine Gun" Karl Anderson vs "The One Man Band" Heath Slater
Poor Heath Slater, once again he was thrown in a bit at the deep end considering his recent run, especially compared to Anderson who's part of one of the most dangerous faction in Hybrid Pro and has looked unbeatable as champ in his second run so far. It was a largely routine matchup for Anderson, who hit all his big spots, while it was also largely routine for Slater in that he didn't. Anderson finished off Slater with the Gun Stun to retain his title.
Winner- Karl Anderson
Brian Cage is backstage with Lenny Leonard
Leonard: Brian Cage, your unbeaten streak has proven to be unstoppable so far, yet a fair number of your opponents have given you a run for your money recently, and you did suffer a loss in a non-televised house show to Austin Aries. How does this affect you mentally?
Cage: The match was untelevised Lenny Leonard, meaning that it doesn't count towards my streak, and I might add that I NEVER tapped out, I was trying to fire up the crowd to help me get out of the hold and the ref assumed I was tapping. I'm an Unstoppable FN Machine Lenny as well as the NWA Hybrid Pro Television Champion, and you'd better start showing me a bit more respect.
Leonard: I wasn't trying to disrespect you Brian, I was just stating the facts. Your taking on Zack Ryder tonight in a TV Title defence, do you think that the streak will continue?
Cage: What sort of a question is that Lenny, of course I think the streak will continue, what point would there be defending this belt otherwise. Zack Ryder, your the latest to fall to the unstoppable FN machine!
Cage leaves as Lenny looks on disappointed with Cage, who seems to have gained a bit of an ego. Considering what Matt Taven did to the last guy who had an ego in The Pistols, could this have a detrimental effect on his standing with his team mates?
NWA Hybrid Pro TV Title Match
"The Unstoppable FN Machine" Brian Cage vs "Long Island Iced Z "Zack Ryder
As much as Ryder didn't exactly stand out in his Hybrid Pro TV debut, taking the fall from Chris Dickinson in that matchup, Cage almost took Ryder too lightly here, forgetting that this man is a popular, talented performer. Ryder actually took the fight to Cage at times in this matchup, and came close to getting the win with a Broski Boot, however a Rough Ryder attempt was countered into a nasty Powerbomb. Cage finally got his ego under control, overpowered Ryder and then took him down with Weapon X to get the 3 count.
Winner- Brian Cage
Cage puts the boots to Ryder post match, and the fans begin to boo Cage. What has gotten into him, has the streak really gone to his head, or is he getting paranoid after that untelevised loss to Aries at the South Beach house show?
NWA North American Title Match
The Pistols (Mike Bennett and Tommaso Ciampa) vs The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson)
The match we have all been clamouring to see is finally happening, as the Hybrid Pro Tag Team Champions step into the ring with the North American Tag Team Champions. And it was about as even a contest as you would expect, Bennett and Ciampa were definitely the more powerful of the teams, tossing the Bucks around with ease, but The Bucks were the faster and the more well versed with double team moves, having years more experience as a tag team. They really gave the North American champs a run for their money, so much so that they could not be separated for the entire matchup, the time limit ended up expiring before we had a definitive winner.
Winners- Time Limit Draw
The fans chant "5 more minutes" as both teams look up for that. But before they can begin, Da Baldies run in and attack both teams, laying them out with kendo stick shots and causing utter chaos yet again. The fans are booing, but I think more out of frustration at not getting to see a conclusive winner rather than at Da Baldies, who's antics earlier in the show highly entertained them. Still, what will The Young Bucks and The Pistols do to combat this dangerous threat? And when will we see the rematch between the two teams?
Zack Ryder is sitting backstage, consoling himself on his loss, when Heath Slater walks in.
Slater: Well, if it isn't Long Island's biggest jobber.
Ryder: What do you want Slater, I'm not in the mood for your goofiness.
Slater: Relax, I'm not here to fight. You see, right now man I'm just like you, a hopeless loser with no friends who nobody likes.
Ryder: Hey, I have friends.
Slater: Name one?
Ryder: ........
Slater: So seeing as we're in the same position, why don't we make the best of it. Lets be tag partners, and together the two man band can take the tag team division by storm!
Ryder: So long as you don't sing then why not
Slater: Oh yeah baby, the two man band is back!
Ryder: Woo woo woo, you know it!
Well, that happened...
Grudge Match
Samoa Joe vs "The Super Submission Master Machine" Paul London
A big time grudge matchup here, and oh boy, Joe looks like he's never wanted to kill someone more in his life, because London doesn't just wan to win, he wants to try and embarrass Joe with his antics that borderline on insane at times. He came out dressed in a fat suit, as well as an excessive amount of tribal style face paint on his face to mock Joe, then whenever he got on the offensive he walked around at a snails pace and feigned being worn out, as if to suggest Joe isn't in shape. Joe was fuming and destroyed London for the majority of this matchup, smacking him with slaps, fists and knees and tossing him around with ease. He signalled for the finish, as he dropped London with a Muscle Buster, but Kyle Matthews ran down and pulled out the referee, smacking him with a right hand. Matthews goes after Joe, but Joe fights back. MUSCLE BUSTER TO MATTHEWS! Joe wants to go for the Choke on Matthews, but then the over the top lucha music starts and El Grand Luchadore appears on the ramp, dancing away as Joe looks perplexed. LOW BLOW BY LONDON, THEN A DROPSAULT! London rips off the fat suit as if it were Hulk Hogan ripping off his shirt, and climbs to the top rope. LONDONS CALLING! Matthews revives the referee, 1-2-3, PAUL LONDON JUST PINNED SAMOA JOE!
Winner- Paul London
Post match London and Matthews try to take out Samoa Joe permanently, Matthews puts him in the Hidaka Lock as Paul London grabs a chair. Johnny Gargano runs down (punching the still dancing El Gran Luchadore in the process) to try and save Joe, but London blocks entry to the ring with the threat of smacking Gargano with the chair. Finally Kenny King and Rhett Titus run out and Matthews and London bail, but Joe's arm looks to be hurt as he clutches it and looks in a lot of pain. The show ends with Gargano and the rest of The Group trying to help Joe as Matthews and London raise their arms.
