The National Wrestling Alliance returned to the Pacific Northwest in front of a capacity crowd at the Washington State Convention Centre in Seattle, Washington with the new territory's debut show. As announced earlier in the week in an online preview, the first show was focused around the promotion's Heavyweight Grand Prix to determine the inaugural NWA Pacific Northwest Heavyweight Champion. In Block A action, "the All Night Wonder" Chris Wonders, who is well known as "the Masterpiece" Chris Masters in other territories, challenges Fandango. The main event is from Block B, where British import Magnus faces Roman Reigns.
The first match on the evening, though, was a Jr. Heavyweight contest between former NWA World Jr. Heavyweight Champion Alex Shelley and Jigsaw. The Jr. Heavyweights did exactly what was expected of them, putting on an excellent wrestling match for fifteen minutes that got the crowd on their feet. The ending came when Shelley slid out of a Brainbuster attempt and hit Jigsaw with the WA4 for the victory. Following the match, Shelley told the Washington fans that he was heading to Ohio next week to face Bryan Danielson in a rematch for the NWA World Jr. Heavyweight Championship, and he would be coming home with the gold!
NWA Pacific Northwest ring announcer Byron Saxton let the fans know that each event will feature a special Showcase match featuring National Wrestling Alliance contracted talent from around the world. Tonight's contest is a special one as it features NWA South Beach's Michael Elgin challenging former NWA Texas Heavyweight Champion, Lance Archer, who wrestles in NWA Southwest. The bout, while it was an even match, was drastically different than the opening contest. Elgin and Archer had an excellent brawl that ended with Elgin using the Revolution Elgin Bomb for the win at the fifeen minute mark. Elgin thanked the fans for welcoming him and stated bluntly that he would be back and will be gunning for the Pacific Northwest Heavyweight Championship when he returns!
The tag team division in Pacific Northwest was put at the forefront when the Prime Time Players, the duo comprising of Darren Young and Titus O'Neil squared off against the Uso Twins, Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso, who are the sons of popular Samoan wrestler, Rikishi. In what is quickly becoming a constant theme in the Pacific Northwest, this was another close contest. Each team got some offence in. Things broke down at the ten minute mark, and Young was caught off guard and hit by a Superkick from Jey. Jimmy hit a Diving Splash for the win.
Following a brief intermission, we were back for the beginning of the Heavyweight Grand Prix. Prior to the event, pamphlets were handed out for fans to track their favourite wrestlers in the tournament. As mentioned earlier, tonight's Block A contest is between "the All Night Wonder" Chris Wonders, sans his NWA Windy City Heavyweight Championship, and Fandango, who dances to the ring accompanied by the lovely Summer Rae. The was the most one sided contest of the night, at least in the beginning, as Wonders used his power to over match his opponent, who on numerous occasions escaped the ring to the arms of his valet. This eventually worked in Fandango's favour, though, as Wonders chased him around. Summer Rae got in the way, which stopped Wonders in his tracks, and Fandango capitalized, hitting him with a stiff kick to the head. Back in the ring, though, Wonders was able to regain control, and eventually won the bout by getting Fandango to submit to the Wonder Lock at the fifteen minute mark.
And it was finally time for the main event of the evening. Two of professional wrestling's top prospects took centre stage as Magnus wrestles Roman Reigns! Both men are above average in size and physique but still possess some incredible athleticism, making this a hot contest for the hundreds of fans in attendance. The feeling out process ended with Reigns knocking Magnus down with a clothesline and he began the beat down. Magnus survived it, though, and rolled out of the ring. Reigns followed, but was sent flying head first into the ring post. Perhaps setting up for his Cloverleaf finishing move, Magnus throws Reigns into the ring post again, this time back first.
Magnus controlled the next few minutes of the match, and picked Reigns up and sent him into the ropes with an Irish whip. Reigns came flying back with a Superman Punch, which seems to be a trademark move among the Samoan wrestling fraternity. Magnus and Reigns continued to go toe to toe for the next fifteen minutes, with Magnus attempting to weaken Reigns back and Reigns using his power game to weaken Magnus at all angles. Magnus had the advantage after whipping Reigns into the corner. He hit three clotheslines before backing off to the opposite corner of the ring. Magnus taunts to the crowd, signalling he was going for another clothesline, this time with added momentum. The crowd gets to their feet as Magnus runs, but he is crushed by a devastating Spear from Reigns!
Reigns hits it out of nowhere, crumpling Magnus' body on the mat! The former Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket lets out a bellowing holler to the fans, picking up Magnus' lifeless body and slamming him down to the mat with a ruthless Powerbomb! Reigns pins Magnus for the victory and the two points!
