This show was a bit of a pain in the ass to put on, it's been a few years since I've booked one of these and getting a call to everyone was a headache. There were a few other guys I wanted to call in to get a sizeable roster for the show, but do to heat between some people it just wasn't going to happen. The ring's a bit beat up we had to duct tape some spots but hey it's better than nothing. The venue was a local community center, the basketball court was unkempt and chipped from years of abuse that no one has fixed. This wasn't a serious show, the doors were open to anyone and a few people showed up while we were putting chairs around the ring. I only got a hold of about seven people so it was going to be a good night. In TEW we don't have ref's or announce teams, the ref is a shared mask worn by a wrestler who wasn't involved in the match. The camera is held by the same guy who does music and that's also who does commentary, well them and if someone else is free to provide color. Thanks for your support tonight and I hope you enjoy the incite into behind the scenes of TEW!
Jax has size and the look, but he's pretty green. Mike Hunt is one of our top guys when he's under a mask as Demented. Jax came out with a cigarette in his mouth and a pool stick in the other trying his best to look like a bad ass in his torn pantera shirt and jean shorts. Mike on the other hand had his shirt tied in a knot showing off his hairy jiggly stomach with his hair pulled back in a ponytail with a pink hair tye. Mike would carry Jameson through some chain wrestling in the beginning of the match, but Jax had a really hard time keeping up and eventually pissed off Mike who blasted him with a stiff shot for slowing down the match. Jameson would go to the outside throwing a couple chairs into the ring, but Mike would go to the outside and snap suplex Jax on the gym floor grabbing his pool stick and using it against him before rolling him back in the ring. Mike Hunt went for a pin but only got a two count, before going back to work on Jameson with the pool stick, snapping it over the back of Jameson sending half of it flipping in the air. Mike would slam Jameson on a chair with the Side Effect but only got a two count out of it. Jameson would make a come back throwing a chair to Mike before hitting a yakuza kick that looked and sounded stiff, Jax picked up the win with the shot. Mike did a great job selling Jameson's offense in this match and the finish looked brutal, I didn't mind putting Jameson over on Mike because it's a secondary character of Pat's.
It was my turn to hop in the ring, this match I put on a mask to work with our comedy wrestler. Cotton Eye is a crowd favorite coming out to the song "Cotton Eye Joe" by the Rednex, he's great at playing to the crowd, but he's far from a technician. The match was pretty fast paced and I did my best to sell the little offense that Cotton Eye has, we did some misdirection and comedy stuff that got a few laughs from the small crowd. Cotton Eye caught me in a dosey doe that linked me off to the ref and when I got back to Cotton Eye he hit his Barn House Drop (RKO) to put me away. Even though the match wasn't the most crisp the people watching really enjoyed the antics and in the end that's what matters.
I wanted to play this show kind of safe since it's the first one we've done in quite some time, so I looked for the best match ups possible. Wes and Bill are from the same town and have great chemistry together, it's the kind of match that I sit back and enjoy as a booker. Wes is all of 140lbs. but he's a legit golden gloves winner and he's nothing but muscle, while BKT is the best wrestler on the roster. BKT would work a slow methodical pace against Jojo, and you could see the pain etched on the pierced face of Jojo as he fought back gouging eyes and throwing wild punches. Jojo is extremely intimidating to be in the ring against, he's a great person out of the ring but inside the ropes even though it's work he's intense. Jojo would snap off a few gut wrench suplexes against a guy who's almost 100lbs. heavier following up by stepping and spinning the heel of his chuck taylor on the face of BKT. Jojo went off the top for a splash but ended up crashing and burning allowing BKT to rain down elbow after elbow to the spine trying to soften him up for the sharpshooter. BKT watches a lot of Bret Hart and Curt Henning trying to model his style after them. BKT would execute a stalling suplex using his size against Jojo to inflict punishment, but Jojo would just keep coming back with everything. Jojo would use his lethal hands to batter BKT, roaring like a monster unleashed as he pulled BKT up by the head to throw him with a few more gut wrench suplexes before coming off the top again hitting the splash that would gain him the victory.
Jojo was handed the Tri-County title and his hooked cane as he paced the ring. This wasn't a huge venue or a well funded show so instead of a mic he just yelled. This guy is intense, pacing the ring as the veins in his neck bulge and his deep voice really projected.
Jojo: I thought when they asked me to come back to this shit hole promotion, I'd have better competition... that I'd have some sort of fucking challenge! This is the same shit with a new shade of brown.
I jumped up from the commentary table at ringside.
Dustin: Shut the hell up and get out of MY ring!
Jojo: What's that mother fucker? You got something to say, get in this ring and say it to my face!
Dustin: Come on man just get out of the ring, I have a match next... How about this... Next show I'll get in the ring with you. If I win, you rain it in, if you win well I'll let you speak your mind whenever you like.
Jojo: Fine, next show your ass belongs to me.
In the vein of putting together a solid return show I faced off against the guy that I trained. We started the match slow with some basic holds but Tommy would show off a bit with his athleticism that I gave him some snug shots for, there isn't a place for needless flippy shit in TEW. Tommy's a power wrestler slamming me to the mat with a few powerbombs, that took a lot out of me as I tried to really sell the pain from the high impact style of the match. When I took over the lead the match was slowed down again with a lot of counter wrestling where I got a two count after dropping a huge knee to the head of Demonik that looked a lot stiffer than it really was. It's punishing when I work Tommy but the matches are always really great since we don't have to talk much through out, we've worked and practiced that much. Tommy used his negative element (TKO) followed up by the nose dive (Swanton) to put me away.
Chris Anarchy footed the bill for the place, and he's a half decent face so he got to be in the main event tonight against Demented who's my go to guy to mold our less polished guys. Demented is intense with his S&M style mask, going off against the punk in a wrestling singlet. The chain wrestling was a lot better between these two than when Pat worked the opener with Jason, and I thought that Chris wasn't going to get up when Demented hit a backdrop driver that made Chris bounce and flip around. It was a tense few seconds but neither man motioned for trouble and Anarchy even kicked out of a pin attempt at two. Chris had a hard time coming back feeling the effect of that big impact but he put in a great effort. Demented snapped off a picture perfect superkick for another near fall with Chris fighting back hitting an olympic slam on Demented following up with a chin lock putting his knee in the spine of a seated Demented who was eventually able to work his way to his feet to escape the hold. Demented went to the outside to get a chair only to have Chris sliding dropkick it back into Demented's face, coming out of the ring Anarchy would literally throw the chair at the head of Demented. I was at ringside and I cringed at the shot, and my heart skipped a beat when the chair went sailing, but thankfully the chair didn't hit a "fan". Demented would absorb the shot and come back with another super kick, before trying to hit an elbow drop off the apron but Anarchy would roll out of the way letting Demented crash to the floor getting the crowd on their feet to see the car wreck at ringside. Chris would put Demented up in a chair only to clothesline him out of it as the match continued the hardcore pace with Anarchy coming out of his shell. Chris would drag Demented back in the ring putting on an STF but Demented would grab the bottom rope to break the hold. Chris look frustrated but broke the hold and begged for Demented to get to his feet pulling his fist back, but when Demented got up he hit a step up enziguri out of nowhere, immediatly pulling Anarachy up only to drill him to the mat with a death valley driver to finally come away with the victory.
The show went great, a few botched spots here and there but it's a free show. The guys were buzzing afterwards as we talked to some of the people who trickled in to see what was happening. We'll hopefully put on another show if the response is positive.
