I got a call early the yesterday morning, the day after our return show at the Arnettsville Community building, BKT was calling to tell me that he talked to his group from parkersburg and they wanted us to come down and do a show with them today. I was hurting in places I forgot existed but couldn’t pass up the chance to get in the ring again so I made some phone calls and we headed down to Parkersburg. We lost a couple guys who didn’t feel like making the trip but we’d obviously be picking up more folks down in Parkersburg so I was still excited about how the show would turn out. The show was outdoors, but thankfully the weather held for us. After going over the roster I pulled out a show that was about six matches long, the group that BKT used to run with are actually a local sketch comedy group so we ended up drawing a sizeable group for such short notice. The leader of the sketch group “Snake” Gwynn didn’t get in the ring but he would work the crowd on mic prior to the show and did commentary/sound/camera duties.
Jax Jameson is still being polished by Patrick, but Jack has been a training partner of his so this match was pretty good since they know each other so well. I booked this match to continue to build up Jameson giving him someone he’s comfortable to work with, and it made for a good opening match up. Jax would bring the chair in the ring and eventually hit the mafia kick to the chair into the face of Anti-Social to win the match.
I know some people hate the term but this was a filler match, Pat and I really like working each other and we’ve pulled out some great matches that I’m proud of. The flamboyant Mike Hunt always gets a good reaction from the crowd and tonight was no different. The match wasn’t super long since we both had to regear up later for more important matches but we tried to put on a good show with Mike getting the victory over me with a side effect.
Snake got into the ring after the match and talked to the crowd getting them laughing and into the show a bit gauging how they’ve enjoyed the action so far. He introduced two members of their sketch group, Gnarles and Matt who ended up getting into an argument which resulted in a match.
These two guys are huge fans of the old school style, which is a bit of a staple of the area. I booked this match because these guys are long time friends and I felt it was better to go ahead and let them work a solid match, then switch things up and have the potential for disaster. The crowd likes both of these sketch comedy guys, even though they really didn’t do much in the way of comedy wrestling, they did pay a lot of homages to legendary wrestlers from the past with Wolfe hitting a DDT for the win. Afterwards they turned on the funny and ended up hugging it out… a little to long… but it got a good chuckle from the crowd.
This match wasn’t supposed to come so quickly, I thought I’d have a week or so to heal up before getting in the ring with Jojo but I wasn’t that lucky. Wes and I talked a bit behind the curtain about how we wanted the match to go, talking about some of the spots that we really wanted to get in. When the music hit we had a handshake and an exchange of “Good lucks” before getting into character and getting to the ring. I had to watch on from the outside of the ring as Jojo got in the ring and laid out an intense promo about how he was going to make me feel new levels of pain and that I’d wish he’d just kill me, ya know all kinds of nice things. The match had a stipulation that if Jojo won he’d be allowed to talk freely with his foul mouth, if I won he wouldn’t be allowed to talk anymore. We put together a back and forth match, but of course I went under because taking away Jojo’s promos would be awful. It was a painful match that Jojo won with a series of gutwrench suplexes.
Chris Kahn is a former indy wrestler who came out today to hang with friends and have a match, so we put him against BKT who should be doing a lot more in the wrestling world. These guys were great like I knew they would be and BKT was able to pick up the win hitting a fist drop off the top on Kahn.
These are the two guys who are working with the younger talent in TEW and they put on a solid main event match, they’ve been practicing none stop since I leave the ring with them when it’s not getting used. The chain wrestling was pretty solid in the opening then they busted out their high impact stuff that made the match a back and forth slug fest of finishes, Demented slid out of the TKO attempt hitting a superkick for a near fall. The match continued and Demented was able to get up Demonik for the DVD and he was able to score with it to retain his championship.
We were worn out after an action filled labor day weekend but we had a blast. The guys from Parkersburg were great and after the show we went out to eat before making the trip home.
