Intermission
Ricochet vs. Katsuhiko Nakajima
Ricochet vs. Katsuhiko Nakajima
The match proved to be a great way to return from intermission and told a great story with Nakajima’s pinpoint strikes against the aerial prowess of Ricochet. Ricochet used his quickness and counters to gain the early advantage, allowing him to connect with a Tornado DDT for a one count. Ricochet would follow up with a corner backflip kick only to be flattened by a roundhouse kick by the surging Nakajima. Nakajima would assert his technique with a series of well-placed kicks and then a slew of suplexes, culminating with a bridging Tiger suplex that garnered the first near fall of the match. Things became much more back and forth from here and eventually spilled over to ringside when Nakajima caught a perched Ricochet with a kick to send him from the top turnbuckle to the ringside guardrail. Nakajima would follow up with more vicious kicks before attempting to break Ricochet in half with a Northern Lights suplex into the ring apron. Ricochet lay in a crumpled heap next to the ring as Nakajima slid into the ring to break the count and bask in the adulation of the fans. Nakajima eventually returned to the floor and blistered the chest of Ricochet with several chops before whipping Ricochet into the guardrail. Nakajima found himself on the guardrail though as Ricochet ducked under a spinning heel kick and then knocked into the front row with a roundhouse from the apron from Ricochet. Ricochet found another gear and slid into the ring to break the count but quickly jumped to the top turnbuckle. Nakajima fought with several folding chairs before regaining his footing just to be knocked down again with a diving double knee drop from Ricochet. The crowd was going nuts as Ricochet tossed Nakajima back over the guardrail and then climbed onto the corner of the guardrail. Ricochet then hit an amazing corkscrew 450 splash that brought everyone to their feet and began a “RI-CO-CHET” chant. The trouble came as Ricochet was slow to his feet and struggled to break the count, rolling into the ring at the count of nine. Ricochet remained laying on the canvas for several moments as the crowd continued to chant his name. As Nakajima started to stir, Ricochet slid back under the rope and tossed Nakajima into the ring. Ricochet climbed onto the apron and then wowed the crowd once more with a springboard shooting star press. Nakajima barely rolled out of the way though and then bounced off the ropes before connecting with a sickening punt kick but Ricochet was able to drape his foot across the bottom rope. Nakajima pulled Ricochet to his feet and connected with a Northern Lights Bomb but could only get another two count. Nakajima shot a look at the referee and looked frustrated as he pulled Ricochet to his feet once more. Nakajima looked for a German suplex but Ricochet landed on his feet and caught Nakajima with a devastating backslide driver. Both men lay on the mat motionless for several moments before Ricochet began to stir to the fans delight. Nakajima wasn’t fair behind and once both reached their feet it was a complete slugfest and they threw chops, fists and eventually a roundhouse from Nakajima. Ricochet avoided the kick though and nailed the Rickrack before jumping to the top turnbuckle. Ricochet gained his balance and threw his arms towards the crowd before hitting an amazing double rotation moonsault. The crowd started another “RI-CO-CHET” chant as the referee made the three count.
The Bravado Brothers vs. Kingz of the Underground
The Kingz of the Underground are a successful local tag team consisting of “the Ace” Ryan Genesis & “Showtime” Scot Summers, who received a decent reaction from the Dallas crowd. The Bravado Brothers were not greeted so warmly and their antics throughout the match seemed to validate their treatment from the crowd. Harlem and Lancelot controlled the majority of the match, working over the Kingz with submission holds and frequent tags. Summers would find himself avoiding several near falls before making the inevitable hot tag to his partner. Genesis would clean house and bring the crowd into the match as he faced off with Lancelot and showed some of his offensive move set, hitting an impressive spinebuster for a near fall. Lancelot would eventually slip out of a vertical suplex attempt and hit a belly to back suplex before tagging out to Harlem. Harlem would control the match for a couple minutes before getting caught with a schoolboy rollup. Lancelot would break up the pin and that would bring in Summers like a wrecking ball. Lancelot would sidestep Summers, sending him shoulder first into the ring post and then dumping him outside the ring. Harlem grabbed Genesis in a front facelock before Lancelot joined him for the Gentleman’s Agreement. Genesis stared at the lights as the referee counted to three and raised the Bravado Brothers arms in victory.
Randy Orton vs. Shawn Hernandez
The main event capped off a strong event with yet another strong match as Orton squared off against Hernandez in a hotly contested match. The crowd seemed divided as the match started and a pre-match handshake received a nice ovation. This was back and forth in the beginning with both men gaining slight advantages until Orton was able to hit a sequence of moves that put him in control. Orton worked diligently to wear down the right leg of Hernandez, evidently hoping to eliminate the obvious strength advantage. Orton would eventually whip Hernandez into the corner and drape his right leg over the center rope, looking to inflict more damage. Hernandez would blindside Orton with a lariat, knocking him through the ropes and to the floor, causing him to land awkwardly on his shoulder. Hernandez looked to capitalize quickly with a double axe handle from the apron and then tossed Orton back under the bottom rope. Once they were both in the ring Hernandez continued to work over the shoulder of Orton until finally hitting an inverted shoulderbreaker. Hernandez hooked the leg but only got a two count from the referee. Hernandez seemed undeterred though and continued to press the action before dropping Orton with a scoop lift sitout powerbomb. Once more Orton rolled the shoulder at the count of two, this time leaving Hernandez to slap the mat and question the referee about the count as he got to his feet. Orton had a faraway look in his eyes as he lay on the mat and slowly began shaking his head as if to try and get the cobwebs out. Hernandez moved to the corner and stepped through the ropes and onto the apron. Hernandez slaps the top turnbuckle before climbing up and standing upon it, raising his arms in unison and bringing a roar from the fans. Hernandez then launches for the diving splash but only finds canvas as Orton rolled towards the corner. Both men lay flat on their stomachs as the referee stands over them and begins to count. The crowd begins to will the two to their feet as the count reaches six, both men stirring almost simultaneously. The referee stops counting after eight and the haymakers begin to fly as the crowd roars with approval. It is back and forth until Hernandez is able to block one of Orton’s and gain a headlock. Orton drives Hernandez to the ropes and then shoves him across the ring as they rebound off the ropes. Orton drops down to void Hernandez the first time and then jumps over him on the second rebound, causing Hernandez to clip the referee. Orton then connects with a drop toe hold and goes back to work on the right leg of Hernandez with several stomps. Hernandez fights back to his feet but Orton continues to kick at the right leg, eventually causing Hernandez to grab the ropes to avoid going back down. Orton grabs a rear waistlock and looks for a German suplex but Hernandez is still holding onto the top rope. The crowd suddenly roars in disapproval as Orton falls to the mat following a well-placed, but obviously illegal mule kick from Hernandez. Hernandez shrugs off the jeers of the crowd and begins to walk around the ring shaking his right leg. Eventually Hernandez returns to Orton and begins throwing bombs to the side of his head. Hernandez eventually relents and walks towards the slowly moving referee as Orton looks to be unconscious. The referee eventually gets to his feet and tries to get his bearings as Hernandez returns to the still motionless Orton. The crowd is now solidly against Hernandez who begins jawing back as he drags Orton to his feet. Hernandez hits the Crackerjack and stares at the crowd for a moment before covering Orton, but his anger only grows as Orton rolls his shoulder just before the count of three. Hernandez now throws several more haymakers but the referee interjects and begins berating Hernandez for using close fists. Hernandez looks as though he is going to strike the referee but instead climbs to his feet and brings Orton to his as well. Hernandez whips Orton into the corner and then follows him in with a spear. Orton falls in the corner and Hernandez quickly puts his boot across his throat. The referee is after Hernandez once again and begins to count to five for the blatant choke. Hernandez removes his foot just before the count of four and leans over the ropes to incite the fans at ringside once more. Hernandez then pulls Orton to his feet and away from the ropes and seems to set up for the Border Toss. Hernandez lifts Orton over his head and into the crucifix, but Orton begins to wriggle free. Hernandez looks to stumble and Orton falls behind him and quickly hits an inverted headlock backbreaker. Both men are down for a moment but Orton slaps the mat and climbs to his feet and then connects with several European uppercuts. Hernandez is staggered and Orton pours in the offense for the next several minutes. The crowd is swelling in support for Orton as he connects with a swinging neckbreaker and then slaps the mat, bringing the crowd to their feet. Hernandez slowly climbs to his feet and Orton goes for the RKO but Hernandez is quick enough to shove him away. Orton bounces off the ropes and Hernandez throws a lariat but Orton ducks under and hits a dropkick, driving Hernandez into the corner. Orton throws a couple right hands and then lifts Hernandez onto the top turnbuckle, then tossed each of his legs to the outside of the ropes. Orton climbs to the second turnbuckle and grabs Hernandez with a front facelock. Orton pulls Hernandez to his feet as well and steps to the top turnbuckle, shades of his father showing through. The crowd groans though as Hernandez shoves Orton to the mat and then steps to the top turnbuckle. Hernandez goes for the diving splash again but this time Orton is to his feet and catches the falling Hernandez with the RKO! The crowd is in an uproar as the Orton hooks the leg and the referee slaps the mat three times.
