NWA Hybrid Pro TV 17/01/2013
Hello and welcome to what could be the most important episode of Hybrid Pro TV ever. Samoa Joe challenges for the NWA World Heavyweight Title tonight, and the winner of that match may face Paul London at Starrcade, providing he can win the Gauntlet against The Elite Security Force here tonight. If not then it'll be the winner of Daniel Bryan vs Brian Kendrick that will take on the champ, whether that is Christopher Daniels or Samoa Joe. And lets not forget that The Hybrid Pro Tag Team Titles are on the line here tonight, as The Hybrid Athletes battle the champs The Young Bucks. All that plus much more.
Notably, Bob Backlund has taken up a spot on the commentary team tonight, following a surprisingly strong Twitter reaction to his mention on last weeks episode. OK then.
Winner Takes Paul London's Place if He Loses The Gauntlet
Daniel Bryan vs Brian Kendrick
What an opening contest we had here, as Daniel Bryan and Brian Kendrick of The Texus have been forced to do battle with one another by Magnus D, the winner taking the place of Paul London at Starrcade if he fails to win the gauntlet here tonight. You could be forgiven for going easy on your opponent in a situation like this, but Bryan and Kendrick played this completely straight, they gave it their all to put on a show for the fans, and less because they wanted to take a title shot that London has worked so hard to earn. Bryan looked to work over the neck of Kendrick, slowing him down as a result and making it easier for Bryan to lock the Yes Lock and make him tap. Kendrick on the other hand worked on the leg of Bryan, perhaps for a similar reason or to make Bryan more susceptible to Kendrick's high risk manoeuvres: its a lot more difficult to get away if you can't run! Kendrick got a close near fall with the Sliced Bread, while Bryan locked the Yes Lock only for Kendrick to make the ropes. Kendrick went for one more Sliced Bread, but Bryan crotched him on the top rope. Bryan went for a Back Superplex, but Kendrick reverses in mid air to a Cross Body, 1-2-NO, BRYAN ROLLS THROUGH TO THE YES LOCK! Kendrick manages to reverse to a roll up, 1-2-NO! Kendrick charges the ropes, but Bryan grabs a waistlock, GERMAN SUPLEX, 1-2-NO, HE ROLLS THROUGH TO THE YES LOCK! Kendrick can't get out of the hold this time and taps, Bryan wins it!
Winner- Daniel Bryan
So if Paul London fails tonight, it will be Christopher Daniels vs Daniel Bryan at Starrcade. Not only would Bryan be pulling double duty, but if he were to retain his World Junior Heavyweight title it would be a champion versus champion match. We will find out later on tonight if this will become a reality or not.
We are backstage with Samuray Del Sol and Sami Callihan of The Pistols, who are both ready for their big grudge tag team match tonight. Samuray is wearing a completely different mask and outfit than we usually see him in. They are with Lenny Leonard.
Leonard: I have with me here Samuray Del Sol and Sami Callihan. Samuray, you obviously have a big grudge to settle here after your mask was ripped off by Jimmy Jacobs, are you ready for this matchup?
Samuray: Let me stop you there Lenny. You see, when Jimmy Jacobs ripped the mask off, Samuray Del Sol died there and then in the ring. He was unmasked, his mysterious aura destroyed in one fowl swoop. Samuray Del Sol is dead. But in his place comes a man in a new mask, a man with a new drive and determination, a man who is ready to destroy those who have wronged him. His name is Kallisto, and tonight Jimmy Jacobs he is going to take you out!
Callihan: (laughs sickly to himself) So you Revolution losers, how about we up the stakes a little bit. After all, the higher the stakes, the more violent things will become, and the more violent it gets, the more fun I have! So to prove once and for all who the better team is, how about we put these little North American Tag Team Titles on the line? Not that you have a choice, we will put these belts on the line and we will retain them, and prove why The Pistols are the best and most violent force in the NWA!
NWA Hybrid Pro Tag Team Title Match
The Young Bucks (Nick and Matt Jackson) vs The Hybrid Athletes (Kyle Matthews and Jack Swagger
The Hybrid Athletes had their opportunity to dethrone The Young Bucks and win the Hybrid Pro Tag Team Titles here, no easy feat considering how strong The Young Bucks have been as champions. It was a weird match however, the wrestling was good but with both teams hardly in the good graces of the fans they didn't exactly know who to cheer for, eventually siding with The Young Bucks as the lesser of two evils. The Bucks as you would expect used their speed and superior team work in this one, as if this one stayed on the mat they would stand little chance against two of the best technicians in the NWA in The Hybrid Athletes. But what makes The Hybrid Athletes "hybrid" is the fact that they can wrestle just about any style, and Matthews proved that by busting out some high flying moves to throw the champs off their game, while Swagger showed his power and used it to toss his opponents around. Things got a little chaotic and the ref ended up taking a bump. The Usos then charge in and attack the champs, knocking Matt out of the ring before nailing Nick with a Double Superfly Splash. Matthews calls for the Hidaka Lock, but before he can use it Alberto Del Rio charges for the ring from the crowd! He and Matthews brawl as The Usos run back in to do some more damage to The Young Bucks, and the recovering ref throws the match out.
Winners- No Contest
The Usos and Young Bucks brawl on the floor as Swagger charges back in and attacks Del Rio. He looks for the Doctor Bomb, but Del Rio escapes with an Enziguri. Del Rio has taken his attention off Matthews however, who creams him in the back with his signature steel chair. He locks in the Hidaka Lock, screaming that this is Del Rio's future at Starrcade! Referees struggle to get Matthews off Del Rio as we cut to commercial.
We come back to Vordell Walker making his way to the ring. "The Shooter" takes the mic and has something to say.
Walker: John Cena, last week you disrespected me and all these people by just walking away. I demand an explanation, and I'm sure these people want one to. I respect you as a performer John, your one of the best, and I want to test my skills against you. So get out here and explain yourself before I go back there and knock you out!
John Cena's music hits, and Cena walks to the ring all smiles, slapping hands with the fans, and even giving his cap to a young fan in the front row. Cena gets in the ring and takes the mic from Walker. He gets ready to say his piece.....then throws the mic to the ground and exits the ring. Cena walks back up the ramp, heads backstage and gets into his car, leaving the arena as he did last week. Walker look very frustrated as he shrugs his shoulders and leaves, kicking the guardrail a few times out of frustration. What is up with John Cena, why won't he fight Vordell Walker?
Before the next match we see Magnus D making his way into the locker room of Daniel Bryan. Whats going on there?
NWA North American Tag Team Title No DQ Match, There Must Be A Winner
The Revolution (Jimmy Jacobs and Drew Gulak) vs The Pistols (Sami Callihan and Kallisto)
Going in I think everyone knew what to expect from this match, and they got exactly what they expected: violence and lots of it. Jacobs and Callihan were definitely the perpetrators of the vast majority of the violence here, but Gulak and Kallisto also showed that they can get extreme when they have to. Jacobs used his spike to bust open the head of Callihan, and he tried to do the same to Kallisto, who was having none of it this time, he's had one mask ripped and it won't happen a second time. Callihan brought barbed wire into the contest, firstly smashing Gulak over the head with a barbed wire bat, then putting Jacobs through a barbed wire board with a Powerbomb! Things ended up breaking down into the two rival pairings from Revolution vs Pistols, as Callihan and Gulak brawled on the outside, while Jacobs and Kallisto brawled inside the ring. Gulak in a sick move wrapped a chair around Callihan's neck, and threw him into the ring post, before locking him in the Gu-Lock to neutralise him. Jacobs slammed Kallisto onto a table covered with barbed wire, then grabbed a massive ladder from under the ring, setting it up. He climbs up, looking to hit Kallisto with a Back Senton through that table, but Kallisto recovers and cuts Jacobs off. He pulls Jacobs down and forces him onto the table, tying him down with some of the barbed wire so he can't escape. Kallisto climbs to the very top of the ladder, 450 SPLASH FROM THE TOP OF THE LADDER THROUGH THE TABLE! 1-2-3, Kallisto wins it and gets some revenge on Jacobs as The Pistols retain their titles!
Winners- The Pistols
Magnus D makes his way down to the commentary table ahead of the Paul London gauntlet series.
Paul London vs The Elite Security Force Gauntlet
Paul London vs Luke Gallows
It was time for London to face his ultimate challenge, a true do or die moment in his career: would he overcome the odds and secure his shot at legend at Starrcade, or fall by the wayside in favour of his best friend Daniel Bryan. Gallows was out first, ready for London, BUT LONDON COMES OUT OF THE CROWD! He rolls up Gallows from behind, 1-2-3, LONDON STEALS IT! Gallows can't believe it as London outsmarts The Elite Security Force, as Chris Masters run out for Part 2
Winner- Paul London
Paul London vs Chris Masters
Masters wasn't going to be as easily fooled by London's antics, as a quick rollup attempt by London was shrugged off by Masters. London wanted this over as quickly as possible, but Masters wanted no part of that, he wanted to drag this one out, tossing London around using that power of his and putting him in some holds to wear him down. Even then Masters couldn't keep the resilient London down for long, and began to get frustrated. So much so that he grabbed a steel chair from ringside and smashed London over the head with it, beating the hell out of him with that chair. London makes it to the final match, but Masters has pretty much destroyed him here
Winner- Paul London by DQ
Paul London vs Cibernetico
Cibernetico walked down with a slow swagger, looking to pin London straight away. 1-2-Cibernetico pulls London up! He lifts London up by the throat and drops him with Garra Cibernetica! Cibernetico poses before going for the cover. 1-2-HE PULLS HIM UP AGAIN! Cibernetico wants to drag this out and make London suffer, he grabs London by the throat one more time and goes for the Garra Cibernetica, BUT LONDON NAILS A DROPKICK! London somehow recovers and fights back against the big man, taking him down several times, but the referee takes a fall in the corner. London charges the ropes, only to eat a Big Boot from Cibernetico! Daniel Bryan then makes his way out, chair in hand, getting in the ring AND SHAKING HAND WITH CIBERNETICO, WHAT THE HELL? Bryan prepares to deliver a chairshot to London, I cannot believe this. CHAIRSHOT TO CIBERNETICO! Bryan shows that his loyalty is with Paul London, and that title shots don't sway him as Magnus loses his shit on commentary. Cibernetico is somehow still on his feet as London and Bryan take him down with a Double Dropkick, before Bryan hands London the chair. London goes up top. CHAIR ASSISTED LONDONS CALLING! Bryan revives the ref, 1-2-3, PAUL LONDON IS GOING TO STARRCADE!
Winner- Paul London
Magnus is still losing his shit at ringside as London and Bryan lead the "Yes" chants in the ring. Magnus calms down and takes the mic.
Magnus: OK Paul, you wanted it, you've got it. As Bob Backlund as my witness, I officially give you my blessing that between now and Starrcade, neither me or my security force will stand in your path. But its not like your going to do it Paul. Look at you, you've been broken down by my security force these past few weeks, your a shell of the wrestler you used to be. You don't stand a god damn change of achieving your dream Paul and winning that belt at Starrcade. You may as well quit now because Christopher Daniels is going to wipe the floor with you.
London snatches the mic away from Magnus, a look of pure rage on his face.
London: "SHUT THE HELL UP YOU DELUSIONAL BASTARD! You seem to have this idea in your head that winning the belt is my dream, that failing will destroy me. Well let me tell you the truth, let me tell you what my dream truly is. My dream never was to win that belt, after all a title belt is merely a prize, it doesn't guarantee your place in history. My dream was for one night to be the guy, to headline the biggest pay per view of the year and give the fans the greatest show they've ever seen. In other words, my dream is just like my trainer Shawn Michaels: to be the showstopper! And Magnus, I'm going to achieve just that. If I win the belt, it'll be a bonus, if not then I've done what I set out to and will have given Christopher Daniels the retirement match a talent of his stature deserves.
Magnus: Don't give me that bullshit Paul, I know full well that you want that belt, and when you lose at Starrcade your going to prove that you aren't half the wrestler your trainer was. To think Daniel Bryan could have had that spot instead, a man who would have given Christopher Daniels a real match. Instead he's only going to be in the World Junior Heavyweight Title match like the junior he is.
A look of rage now crosses Daniel Bryan's face. He takes the mic from London.
Bryan: I'm sorry, can you repeat that last sentence, I don't think I heard it quite correctly.
Magnus: I SAID, you are only going to be in the World Junior Heavyweight Title match you junior!
Bryan: NO NO NO! How dare you disrespect this title. I have worked for 7 FUCKING MONTHS to make this belt mean something. Before my reign, this was the belt that nobody wanted, Johnny Gargano tried to throw it in the garbage, and the rest of the champions didn't do a damn thing for this title. Because of my hard work, this belt now means JUST AS MUCH as the World Heavyweight Title does. If you thought I would ever take you up on your offer and betray my best friend, that I would risk losing this belt for a shot at a belt that is worth just as much by pulling double duty, then your more delusional that anyone ever gave you credit for. You'd better hope that me and Paul London come back with the titles, because if you've cost us both championship gold then we are going to kick your fucking head in!
Bryan and London lead the fans in "Your going to get your fucking head kicked in" chants as Magnus leaves in a hurry, surrounded by his Elite Security Force. For the bosses sake, he'd better hope that Daniel Bryan retains and Paul London bring the big gold belt home, or he could be in for the beating of his life.
A hype video for South Beach TV this Sunday plays. Sami Zayn will be in attendance, as will Samoa Joe. Make sure to tune in, its sure to be a great show!
We get the introductions for our massive main event, the NWA World Heavyweight Title match is next!
NWA World Heavyweight Title Match
Christopher Daniels vs Samoa Joe
Both men shake hands before we begin, a great amount of respect between them. They have wrestled on countless occasions over the past 12-15 years, and this will be their final meeting, which is very said to think about in a way but time catches up to us all. And it was just as great a match as we have seen from them in the past, almost like a highlight reel of the classics gone by. Joe tried to power his way to that title, nailing Daniels with all manner of strikes and high impact moves, while Daniels looked to ground Joe, working over the right leg of Joe with kick and holds to take him own. Both strategies were perfectly executed, and as this match went on both men struggled to keep going, with Daniels worn down by the amount of damage he had taken, while Joe struggled to walk with his leg in such bad shape. Joe then had a flurry, he smashed Daniels with ton of slaps, then nailed an Enziguri, but couldn't make the cover straight away due to that injured foot, he shouldn't have used that with the Enziguri. Ho covers Daniels, 1-2-Daniels kicks out BUT JOE LOCKS IN THE CHOKE! Daniel struggles, and manages to turn the move into a pinning combination, 1-2-NO! Joe looks for the Muscle Buster, but the leg gives way, LAST RITES BY DANIELS! 1-2-NO, JOE KICKS OUT! Daniels goes up top for the BME, BUT JOE AVOIDS IT! MUSCLE BUSTER! 1-2-NO, DANIELS KICKS OUT BUT JOE LOCKS THE CHOKE AGAIN! Daniel struggles, but this time he can't escape. Daniels' only hope was the leg, with the very last of his energy, he pounds away on it with his foot, as Joe screams in pain. Joe's grip loosen, as Daniels escapes AND LOCKS A SINGLE LEG CRAB! Joe tosses Daniels off, but Daniels kicks away at the leg again and relocks the hold, lying down on it and locking the leg. Joe screams and tries to hold on, but he loses consciousness, DANIELS RETAINS VIA KNOCK OUT!
Winner- Christopher Daniels
Daniels celebrates with his title, what a hard fought victory this was. But not before checking on Joe and ensuring he is OK, helping him to his feet before exchanging a handshake. Joe looks disappointed, but is still very respectful towards his friend, saying "thank you" over and over in a very surreal moment, almost breaking character to show his respect for on of the best wrestlers of his generation. Joe raises Daniels hand and leaves as the champ celebrates some more, the fans chanting "thank you Daniels" in what might be Daniels last appearance in New Jersey, as the show comes to an end.
