The pyro goes off inside a sold out Pensacola Civic Center as the announce team of Matt Striker and Howard Schilling welcome everyone to the Starrcade go home show. We go right to the ring for our first match.
Match Number One: NWA South Beach Champion Chris Hero vs. NWA Hybrid Pro Heavyweight Champion Sami Zayn (The NWA South Beach Title AND The NWA Hybrid Pro Heavyweight Championship are on the line)
The NWA Hybrid Pro Heavyweight Champion Sami Zayn comes out first to a good reaction from the capacity crowd. The NWA South Beach Champion Chris Hero comes out next and gets an even better one as we replay the highlights of his title winning match from "Rebirth". The bell rings, the men shake hands and we are underway. Now Zayn gives up four inches in height as well as over thirty pounds to Hero. On paper, Zayn shouldn't stand a chance...but as the old saying goes, games (and in this case matches) aren't played on paper. Sami Zayn has been battle tested these last few months going against bigger men like Sami Callihan, Antonio Cesaro, and "Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce; and he showed it in this match against Hero, continually taking to the skies and did his utmost to keep the pace as fast as possible. Chris Hero is a veteran of many territories in the NWA, coming close on so many occasions to breaking through that glass ceiling, and in doing so has learned to adapt to wrestling almost any style at any pace. These men left it all in the ring for twenty minutes, countering each other's best moves. At the fifteen minute mark Justin Roberts announced from ringside that there were five minutes left in the match which seemed to kick both men into another gear which the announce team thought wasn't possible. Hero would hit a Cravate Cutter for a near fall with three minutes left and tried to go up top but would be stopped by Zayn! Zayn would climb to the top with a minute left.....BRAINBUSTAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH! VERY DANGEROUS! Zayn would take a bad bump just delivering the maneuver to Hero and finally roll him over with five seconds left! *FOUR!* COVER! *THREE! The ref slides in to make the count! *TWO!* The ref counts ONE! *ONE!* REF COUNTS TWO! *DING! DING! DING!* THIS MATCH IS OVER! TIME HAS EXPIRED!
Result: Time limit draw
The crowd boos and chants "FIVE MORE MINUTES! *clap clap clap clap clap* FIVE MORE MINUTES!" Chris Hero slowly makes his way to his knees, goes to the corner, asks for a mic and tries to silence the crowd who eventually gives in.
Hero: *Panting* Now I know you guys are upset that Sami and I couldn't figure out who the better man was tonight, but we just left it all in the ring and did the most with the time we were given. *Hero wipes his brow and swallows* That being said, Sami I have a proposition for you. You're an amazing athlete Sami and you've got a great fighting spirit. Next Sunday is NWA's "Showcase of the Immortals", the place where legacies are cemented and legends are made: Starrcade; and I was looking at the booking sheet this week and realized that neither you nor I have a match. Now Starrcade has got a card filled with great matches, but they don't have what we have: the motivation to go out and steal the show. We're the overlooked, the under appreciated, and we're the ones that will prove everyone wrong. What do you say? No titles, no frills, just two guys with mutual respect going out there and tearing Wembley Stadium down. We got a match?
Zayn takes a long look at Hero who has his hand extended. The crowd is chanting "YES!" repeatedly. Zayn thinks about it for a moment longer and shakes Chris' hand. They raise their hands and embrace as the crowd cheers. Looks like we have ourselves another match for Starrcade! The celebration doesn't last very long because we head straight to the back where Jay Lethal is at the catering table looking over the spread when CM Punk comes up and starts lobbing verbal grenades at Lethal. Jay keeps loading his plate with vegetables, assorted deli meats and cheeses but it's clear that Punk is getting to him. Punk says that the only way he won't beat Lethal is by an act of God, and Lethal's arms are too short to box with God before throwing water in Lethal's face and calling him Hydro. Lethal finally snaps and attacks Punk! Lethal with forearms to the face and throws Punk onto the catering table, jumps on top and starts punching every bit of his nemesis he can reach. In the ring Hero and Zayn see what's going on and rush to the back. Punk gets a thumb to the eye of Lethal and sends him into a shipping container. A mix of Pensacola's finest, the South Beach locker room, and the rest of the wrestlers on hand tonight finally swarm in and break the two up. Lethal has a small cut over his left eye and Punk has a sick grin as he shouts that at Starrcade a cut will be the least of Lethal's worries before spitting at him! There are ten people doing their damndest to hold a now irate Lethal back and they're starting to fail. This is gonna be a war in seven days ladies and gentlemen.......
The announcers put over the Punk-Lethal and Hero-Zayn matches before a graphic for a match that was made on the latest episode of NWA UK shows up.
Howard: Matt, this match was just added to the card. The NWA World Tag Team Titles will be on the line as the reigning champions; The Rockstars of Wrestling, Jimmy Rave and John Morrison, will take on CPW's odd couple of Paul Burchill and Chris Jericho.
Striker: The tag team wrestling scene in the NWA has never been more exciting Howard; with established tag teams leading the way for newer ones and with three new territories having joined the NWA in the last month. In CPW, interesting situations make for some strange bedfellows indeed as this unlikely pairing of Chris Jericho and Paul Burchill has proven to be a formidable duo, already having held the CPW Tag Team Titles on one occasion. The Rockstars have been called a "team for the modern era" and it would be VERY difficult to disagree with them. Will Jeri-hill end the Rockstars' six month reign or will UK's next Beatles reign supreme?
We go back out to the ring and Bully Ray has a mic. The All Night Express, who have been doing a tour with some independent promotions in Europe, along with the South Beach Tag Team Champions The Nation of Domination, are with him.
Ray: DO YOU AWL KNOW WHO IN THE HELL I AM? I AM THE GAWY THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE FIRST SAWTH BEACH CHAMPION, THE BIGGEST BULLY ON THE BLOCK, AND THE ALMIGHTY CALFZILLA: BULLY RAY. NOW I WAS TAWLD BAWY JBL THAT I HAD TO COME OUT HERE FOR A LITTLE "INTER-PROMOTIONAL COOPERATION" B***S***. THE TRUTH IS THAT FEW IN THE NATIONAL WRESTLING AWLLIANCE CAN MATCH WHAT I CAN DO IN THE RING, SO I DECIDED TO BRING OUT FAWR SHMUCKS FROM THE BACK. GET THESE JABRONIES OUT HERE SO WE CAN SHOW THEM WHAT REAL WRESTLING'S AWL ABAT!
Match Number Two: Bully Ray, Kenny King, Rhett Titus, Ezekiel Jackson and Uhaa Nation vs. Rich Swann (NWA New Orleans), "Mr. Pectacular" Jessie Godderz (NWA Ohio Valley), AR Fox (NWA Amarillo), Karl Anderson (NWA EVOLVE), and Kota Ibushi (NWA Kenshiki)
There were a LOT of moving parts in this match, as you had the flash of the ANX, AR Fox, Ibushi and Swann along with the straight up brawling style that so many identify with Bully Ray, big Zeke and Mr. Pectacular. Team NWA 2.0 meshed really well together in this match despite never having teamed with each other to this point and eventually Jessie Godderz was brought in to deal with big bad Bully Ray. Ray would tell Jessie to "bring it" and the former Big Brother star would try to run him over with a shoulder block but to no avail. Ray smirks and tells Godderz "my turn" before trying a shoulder block of his own...and Godderz is still standing! We go back to Ray smirking and telling Jessie to try it again, while the crowd works itself into a frenzy. Godderz hits the ropes and comes at Ray only to get sent out of the ring tumbling toward the entrance way. A couple of South Beach guys come to bring Jessie back in the ring but Ray says he's got this. Ray goes to the outside, picks Jessie up and teases sending him into the guard rail as the ref starts the ten count. Jessie delivers a soft elbow to the midsection and takes Ray further up the entrance way before lightly slamming his head on the railing....what's this about? The ref's count is at eight and both teams finally realize what's going on and start going after them. The ref's count hits ten as Bully and Jessie stand smirking at the entrance way.
Result: Double Countout
Ray points to Jessie and says that this man was the best wrestler in that ring, a future NWA World Heavyweight champion, and nobody on his team deserved to team with him before the two walk to the back. Well THAT was a little insulting don't you think? We go to Striker and Schilling at the announce table and another Starrcade graphic.
Howard: NWA Hybrid Pro has some of the best wrestling in the NWA and in this match where one faction will be made into fractions. Johnny Gargano, who found redemption with The Group that ended The Prophecy's anarchistic reign over the NWA, reformed The Revolution and they will be taking on Matt Taven's group of six shooters: The Pistols, in an elimination match, winner takes all.
Matt: Few stories in the NWA have reached out and touched the hearts of our viewers like Johnny Gargano's redemption and subsequent redemption of "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels. Johnny Gargano is doing his best to rebuild a better NWA and found his own band of people with prodigious skill between the ropes that have hearts of gold. On the other side of the ring are the Pistols, who have taken no prisoners and even won the North American Tag Team Titles. This group reminds me of a new age Four Horsemen in that they are six individuals working collectively to achieve a greater purpose. None of that means anything if they lose next Sunday though. Will this Bullet Club of sorts find that their chamber is empty, or will the Revolution go the way of DA BALDIES and so many others that have fallen prey to the young guns of the NWA? I can't wait to find out.
Another Starrcade graphic comes on screen and it features two former NWA World Champions
Howard: Matt our next match on the card features the last two men to hold the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. Kyle Matthews will be taking on Alberto Del Rio. Last. Man. Standing.
Matt: Oh what a tangled web we weave Howard. Alberto Del Rio held the NWA World Heavyweight title for four months after beating CM Punk. He defeated a long list of some of the best names in our sport. At the LLI Super Show in Mexico City a strapping young challenger from NWA Hybrid Pro took up the challenge and defeated the Mexican Aristocrat. What started as a chance at prosperity for the young champion turned into an iron fisted rule. It was a dark time as "The Most Hybrid Athlete in the NWA" built a dark reign that took up a great share of 2013 year. He injured people left, right and center, constantly threatening to kill the NWA. One of his first victims was the man he beat for the title in Alberto Del Rio. There is no love lost here, both men want nothing more than to cause as much physical pain to the other as possible. It's the Cross-Arm Breaker vs. the Hidaka Lock. It's the poor boy from Georgia vs. the heir to Mexican wrestling royalty. It's Kyle Matthews vs. Alberto Del Rio and neither man will be the same after this one. I can't wait.
Another graphic shows up with a crown behind the competitors.
Howard: If you haven't checked out NWA UK yet folks, I urge you to go out of your way to do it. Two of the brightest young stars in NWA UK will be doing battle as "Lionheart" Adrian McCallum will be defending his UK Crown against Johnny Moss.
Matt: NWA President Dustin Smith has found the crown jewel of his territories in NWA UK. This match, featuring two of the brightest superstars in NWA UK, will be a glimpse into the next generation. Ladies and gentlemen, the future is now.
Next comes a graphic for the TLC match with Super Dragon's place blurred out. We go down to JBL standing in the middle of the ring. There is a table, with six chairs around it. A ladder stands behind JBL. He introduces Tyler Black, who comes out to a good reaction from the crowd. Harry Smith comes out to a favorable reaction. NWA South Beach TV Champion Adam Cole is wheeled out by Eva Marie to a resounding chorus of boos from the crowd. Samoa Joe enters and the crowd serenades the participants with "JOE'S GONNA KILL YOU! JOE'S GONNA KILL YOU!". The North American Champion Dolph Ziggler comes out to a decent reaction. JBL has a mic and it looks like the boss has something to say.
JBL: Now I'm sure that a lot of you are wondering where Super Dragon is. I talked to NWA Pennsylvania GM Perry Saturn and he told me that if NWA Pennsylvania was going to be in this match, then they wanted to send the best for a title this prestigious. They're sending a man who they are hoping will be a building block for many years to come: "The Manliest Man" BIFF BUSICK!
Busick comes out as we get footage from when Busick knocked Super Dragon sillier than putty. The crowd gasps as Busick gets in the ring, grabs the remaining chair, turns it around and sits in it. We get various posturing from all the participants and eventually this one breaks down into a pier six brawl with Cole bailing as action starts. Joe hits a muscle buster on Ziggler, through a table, Busick eats a running powerslam from Smith who then gets hit with Avada Kedavra from Black! Black grabs the North American Title and starts climbing the ladder. Black has made it to the top! Could this be a sign of things to come in London?
The ring gets cleared as a graphic for Starrcade comes up with the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Title in the background.
Howard: The first of our double main event is a triple threat match with more gold than Fort Knox on the line. The NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion Bryan Danielson will be defending his championship against CPW's Light Heavyweight Champion "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles and NWA UK's X Champion Prince Devitt, whose belts will ALSO be on the line.
Matt: It is a high flyers fray with a chance at immortality hanging in the balance. You have the mastermind of technical wrestling in "The American Dragon" Bryan Danielson, "The Real Rock and Rolla" high flyer Prince Devitt, and the all around brilliance of AJ Styles. This match has the chance to be one of the greatest in NWA history. Who will walk out wearing the gold? London is calling for a masterpiece that would put Michelangelo to shame.
We go to the back where "The Fallen Angel" is walking. The entire locker room, except for CM Punk, is standing and thanking Daniels. Daniels has a tear in his eye as the announcers show the graphic for the World Title Match.
Howard: The main event of Starrcade is one that sees one of the greatest wrestlers that the NWA has seen in the last twenty years wrestle his final match. The NWA World Heavyweight Championship will be on the line as "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels will be getting in the ring one last time and defending his title against Paul London of NWA Hybrid Pro.
Matt: Howard, you and I have been fans of this Christopher Daniels' career for the last decade plus. He's a surefire hall of famer, won two world titles, five world tag titles, was the first ever South Beach Champion, and had countless other territorial title reigns. His opponent in his final match is someone who he is VERY familiar with. Paul London has found his own redemption of sorts after being a thorn in Daniels' side as part of The Prophecy. London was tabbed to be the man to wrestle in the final match of Christopher Daniels' storied career for the richest prize in our industry; it will be up to him to rise to the challenge. I wish him the best of luck and I can't wait for this match. This should be one for the ages.
We go back to the ring where Low Ki is making his entrance. Christopher Daniels makes his entrance and the capacity crowd rises to their feet and cheer. Justin Roberts does formal introductions but gets drowned out during Christopher Daniels' intro by the deafening "FALLEN ANGEL! FALLEN ANGEL!" chants. The bell rings and our main event is underway.
Main Event: NWA World Heavyweight Championship Match: "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels (c) vs. Low Ki
Before they lock up, Daniels and Low Ki come to the middle of the ring and shake hands. Daniels looks to be moving gingerly after his war with Samoa Joe just two days ago in New Jersey but he's a fighting champion and wouldn't have missed this match for the world. Daniels and Ki finally lock up and Ki sends Daniels into the ropes before catching him with a nice arm drag. Daniels counters with an arm drag of his own, and Low Ki hits another. Daniels with another and they lock up again with Daniels going behind and trying for a german suplex but Ki blocks, breaks free, and maneuvers behind Daniels. Daniels reaches between his legs and takes one of Ki's legs out from under him before spinning around and trying for a jackknife cover but Ki bridges out at one and manages to turn it into a back slide but Daniels kicks out at one, both men raise up with fists ready and we have a stalemate. The crowd applauds and the combatants circle one another, touching hands briefly in a show of respect before locking up again. Daniels sends Ki into the corner and tries for a monkey flip but Ki lands on his feet, nails Daniels with a kick to the gut, hits the ropes and nails the champ with a dropkick to the head. Ki with the cover but Chris powers out at one and a half. Low Ki continues to press his advantage, taking Daniels and sending him into the ropes, leapfrogging him, and then stopping him with a BLISTERING chop to the chest. Jay Lethal and Pac come down to ringside, grab chairs and sit down, cheering hard for both men. Nobody wants to watch this match on the monitors in the back.
The World Warrior takes Daniels into the corner and starts lighting up his chest with some knife-edge chops that make some in the audience cringe just watching. After about five Daniels blocks and starts laying in with chops of his own before picking Ki up and setting him on the top turnbuckle. Daniels goes up top and tries to hit a super plex but Ki blocks and fights Daniels off, eventually sending him crashing to the mat. Ki shakes off the cobwebs, and it looks like he's going for Warrior's Way! Ki leaps! Daniels moves! Ki rolls through, waits for Daniels to get to his feet and hits an Abisegiri (rolling kick)! Ki hooks Daniels....KRUSH RUSH! Ki with the cover! ONE! TWO! NO! Daniels kicks out! The crowd, which hasn't taken sides for most of this match, starts a "Fallen Angel" chant to will Daniels back into the match. Ki pulls Daniels to his feet and signals for the Ki Krusher, but Daniels blocks and hits a bridging Northern Lights suplex! Ki kicks out at one and a half and Daniels face goes quickly from one of anger to one of resolve. Daniels and Low Ki get up and meet in the middle of the ring. Daniels with a right. Ki answers back with one of his own. Daniels answers. Ki comes back as well. Back and forth they go, neither willing to give an inch! Daniels with a knee to the gut and signals for Angel's Wings but Ki brings him over with a back body drop but Daniels counters into a sunset flip! ONE! TWO! NO! Ki gets up and NAILS Daniels in the back of the head with a kick and heads back to the top and attempts a phoenix splash but Daniels moves! Ki crashes and burns! Daniels gets to his feet and there is fire in his eyes. Daniels picks Ki up, hits a reverse STO and locks in the Koji Clutch! This is the hold he won the World Heavyweight Championship with at Fall Brawl! Low Ki is struggling as the crowd chants "PLEASE DON'T TAP! PLEASE DON'T TAP!" Ki is struggling to make it to the ropes, clawing inch by inch towards the ropes. Daniels cranks back! Low Ki is a centimeter away.....AND KI GETS TO THE ROPES! Daniels lets go after a count of two. Daniels says that this one is over and scoops slams Ki in front of a corner....BME! Daniels with the Best Moonsault Ever and he got ALL of it! Daniels covers! ONE! TWO! THREE! Daniels wins!
Winner (and STILL NWA World Heavyweight Champion): "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels!
Daniels gets the NWA World Heavyweight Championship from the referee, but puts it down on the canvas. The champ goes over to Low Ki and picks him up. They say words that the cameras can't pick up due to the fans cheering and eventually embrace. Daniels raises his friend's hand as the crowd roars. Both men have tears in their eyes as the announcers tell everyone to order Starrcade next Sunday. GOODNIGHT FROM PENSACOLA EVERYBODY!
