NWA Hybrid Pro TV 21/02/2014: A New Era
Welcome to what is a new era for Hybrid Pro. Tonight new stars will get a shot to shine, not to mention some old favourites. In addition, we will also see three first round matches in the World Heavyweight Title Tournament.
NWA Hybrid Pro owner Magnus D makes his way to the ring to start the show. Far from the cocky figure we saw a few weeks ago, Magnus appears a lot more sombre.
Magnus: "Fans, before we get into tonights show, I want to say one thing: I'm sorry. I let my ego get out of control, such was my desire for Paul London to fail. Paul, please come down here."
Paul London makes his way to the ring.
Magnus: "In the end, I've cost you not once, but twice, by being so relentless with my pursuit of ending your career, something which I now realise was a mistake. You could have been part of the title tournament but I denied you that chance, in fact had I not sent my security force after you, you could have even won the belt against Christopher Daniels. I can't change the past, but what I can do is offer the next best thing, a shot at the winner of the tournament. After Spring Stampede in April, you will get the fair shot you deserve here in Hybrid Pro. And when the time comes, may the best man win."
Magnus offers his hand to London. London tentatively shakes the hand of Magnus, THEN DECKS HIM WITH A RIGHT HAND! London grabs a chair from ringside and climbs up top, CHAIR ASSISTED LONDONS CALLING TO THE BOSS! The fans love it as London takes the mic.
London: "If you think I'm forgiving you after all you've done to try and shorten my career, then you really are clueless. Enjoy being injured douchebag!"
London storms out as Magnus is once again carried out on a stretcher. I'm guessing that this is the last we will be seeing of Magnus for a long time in Hybrid Pro. London's attack is definitely justified, but with Magnus so remorseful for what he had done, was it definitely the right thing to do?
Chris Dickinson is backstage ahead of our first match
Dickinson: "Really? Me, Chris Dickinson, in a match with rookies? How short of a memory do the fans of the NWA have? I was in a fucking NWA World Title match a few months ago, yet that's all been forgotten. This match is barely worth my time, but I'm still going to compete, know why? Because I want to prove that I'm far and above everybody in this match, and maybe then I'll get the respect somebody of my talent deserves!"
Before our first match begins, Samoa Joe makes his way out and joins the commentary team
New Stars 4 Way Match
Chris Dickinson vs Jaka vs Shane Hollister vs Caleb Konley
Our four newest competitors on the roster gave it their all here, looking to make a big impression. Dickinson barely looked like he was trying early on, but Jaka brought out some of the fire in him as the two had some very hard hitting exchanges. Indeed Jaka looked arguably the most impressive of the four competitors in the match, with his combination of strikes and wrestling skill making him look very impressive. Hollister and Konley shined at times here to, they have a lot to offer, with Hollister taking full advantage of the chance to prove himself and Konley looking to build upon a good run in Impact last year. Jaka ended up brawling to the outside with Konley, as Jaka locked him in The Jaws of the Jaguar out there. Dickinson meanwhile grabbed Hollister and dropped him with the Brain Drill, getting 3 and a debut win.
Winner- Chris Dickinson
Post match Joe gets into the ring, and invites all four competitors to get in.
Joe: Tonight I've watched this match purely because I feel all four of you have a lot to offer in professional wrestling. You haven't disappointed. I'm looking for a protégé, a man who can follow in my footsteps in this business when my time eventually ends. I want that man to watch at my side as I dominate the competition in the NWA World Heavyweight Title Tournament, so that they to can learn what it takes to become the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. You have all impressed me in your own ways, but one man stood out for me, he will be a fine protégé if he is willing to accept. That man is.....Jaka!
Jaka nods to say that he accepts, THEN CHRIS DICKINSON DROPS HIM WITH THE BRAIN DRILL! Joe charges and grabs Dickinson, nailing him with a load of slaps and an Enziguri to send him outside of the ring. Dickinson leaves, knowing he sent a message even if he was on the wrong end of a beating from Joe in the process.
Kevin Nash is out for his open challenge, or as he referred to it at the Hybrid Pro house show "The Vanilla Midget Challenge". Nash waits in the ring as the challenge is answered by Up In Smoke, Cheech and Cloudy! Nash just chuckles to himself and doesn't seem to care that its a handicap match.
Kevin Nash Open Challenge
Kevin Nash vs Up In Smoke (Cheech and Cloudy)
Pretty easy going stuff for Nash here once again, as Cheech and Cloudy couldn't even get Nash off his feet let alone challenge him. Nash boots Cheech in the face and throws him out of the ring. Nash then grabs Cloudy, Jacknife Powerbomb OVER THE TOP TO THE FLOOR! Nash potentially killed Cloudy there but that was certainly something. He picks up Cheech who has foolishly gotten back into the ring, Jacknife Powerbomb and thats 3 for Nash obviously.
Winner- Kevin Nash
Tag Team Grudge Match
Johnny Gargano and Kyle O'Reilly vs Adam Cole and Chuck Taylor
A big time grudge match here, as the rivalry between Gargano and Cole exploded here in a big way. Yet Cole didn't exactly seem keen on getting in there with Gargano, he let Taylor do most of the work when Gargano was in there, picking his shots wisely, while he was more involved when O'Reilly was in the ring. Indeed O'Reilly was the one to be isolated from his corner, as Cole and Taylor did everything they could to stop him making the tag to Gargano, from flat out breaking the rules to distracting the ref when O'Reilly was able to make the tag. Finally O'Reilly would take both Taylor and Cole down long enough for him to make the tag to Gargano, with Cole having nowhere to go. Cole begged but Gargano fired away with lefts and rights, screaming with satisfaction as he took Cole down. Taylor took Gargano down with a charging boot then pulled him outside the ring, and O'Reilly looked for the Anklelock on Cole. He locked it, but Cole managed to shove him off into the ropes, where he got a rollup and grabbed the trunks to steal the 3 count!
Winners- Adam Cole and Chuck Taylor
Cole and Taylor celebrate and make their escape, having stolen a win here, but it is then announced that next week, Johnny Gargano and Adam Cole will go one on one! Meanwhile Kyle O'Reilly and Chuck Taylor will also do battle in singles competition.
Mike Quackenbush is being interviewed ahead of his matchup
Quackenbush: Tonight wrestling fans, I have a tremendous opportunity, one I have been looking for since the NWA was formed, a chance to win some gold. For all my talent, all my experience and all my skill, I have not been given the opportunity to show it here in the NWA. Well tonight Sami Zayn, I hope your ready for a real challenge, because that belt will belong to me. I owe it to not just the fans, but the Chikarmy itself to make an impression here tonight. Both myself and the Chikara faithful have not received the respect we deserve here in the NWA, I hope that tonight I can begin to change that. Sami Zayn, be ready for the challenge of a lifetime!
Hybrid Pro Heavyweight Title Match
Sami Zayn vs Mike Quackenbush
A great match here, Quackenbush got a loud ovation from the fans who were pleased to see him back in action here in the NWA, while Zayn gave his usual stellar performance. We got a lot of back and forth mat wrestling early on, with Quackenbush perhaps having the advantage there thanks to his many years of experience learning almost every style of wrestling there is. But when the match pace picked up Zayn was more in his element, he was the better high flyer of the two and electrified the crowd the way only he can. The two exchanged near falls, with Quackenbush coming close on a few occasions to getting the big win and the title. Zayn however would retain, hitting his Springboard Tornado DDT to get 3.
Winner- Sami Zayn
Post match Zayn and Quackenbush exchanged a respectful handshake, with Quackenbush saying that he would be bringing some new challengers for Zayn to Hybrid Pro very soon. Who will these new challengers be?
A video plays hyping the arrival next week of EC3. Who is this man and what will he offer Hybrid Pro?
Hybrid Pro Tag Team Title Match
The Pistols (Mike Bennett and Tommaso Ciampa) vs The Unbreakable Fn Machines (Brian Cage and Michael Elgin) vs Biff Busick and Drew Gulak vs The Hybrid Athletes (Kyle Matthews and Alberto Del Rio)
Our match to decide the new Hybrid Pro Tag Team Champions was a great battle of 4 fresh tag teams, with The Pistols looking to become double champions and The Hybrid Athletes looking to like up to their billing by winning some gold. The Unbreakable FN Machines however was on fire, Cage looked phenomenal and Elgin is thriving in Hybrid Pro alongside him. Busick and Gulak struggled to stand out, but gave a good performance regardless, coming close on a few occasions to the 3 count. The Pistols and The Hybrid Athletes brawled to the outside, both losing focus on the task in hand, while The Machines and Gulak/Busick fought in the ring. Cage grabbed Gulak, dropped him with Weapon X, and that got him the 3 count.
Winners- NEW Hybrid Pro Tag Team Champions, The Unbreakable FN Machines
Post match The Pistols and Hybrid Athletes continued their brawl as The Unbreakable Fn Machines celebrated and left. Matthews and Del Rio managed to lock in the Hidaka Lock and Cross Armbreaker on Bennett and Ciampa, that was until Matt Taven ran down. He grabbed Matthews, TAVEN EFFECT! He then grabbed Del Rio, TAVEN EFFECT AGAIN! Taven celebrates as he grabs The Pistols and they run for the hills, as Taven shouts out "YOUR NEXT NWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION, MATT TAVEN!" Well he certainly made an impact, that's for sure, but had hey not been distracted I don't think Taven would have been able to do the same thing to The Hybrid Athletes.
We go backstage where Sean Waltman is sitting in the locker room, a look of focus on his face.
Waltman: Tonight, I have my chance to do something I've never done in the NWA, that is win World gold. You see while I've had a crazy career, I've never had that defining moment, the moment that turns someone from a great wrestler into a legend. And time is running out for me to have that moment. When I saw Christopher Daniels retire, I realised that if I was to have one last shot at this great sport we call wrestling, it would have to be now. I'm giving myself until the end of this year, whether I find success or not I will retire permanently on December 31st 2014. That's a little over 10 months, and maybe a lot of critics don't think I can do it. Maybe they think that my personal demons will overcome me, that I'll drug myself to death or I'll try to kill myself again. Well I fought damn hard to get clean, and I'm not going down without a fight. I'm ready to prove that I have the "X-Factor" required to be the man in the NWA!"
NWA Junior Heavyweight Triple Crown Match
Daniel Bryan vs Sean Waltman
Going into this, people would have had high expectations, as one of the most talented professional wrestlers of his generation Daniel Bryan does battle with one of the best junior heavyweight wrestlers of the 90's. However I don't think anyone could have predicted how this match went down, as Waltman didn't just push Bryan to his limits, he damn near pulled off the biggest upset of the year and won the entire crowd over in the process. The two had a good back and forth feeling out process early on, before Bryan took control, putting Waltman in some nasty submissions and looked like he was on his way to a comfortable title defence. But if there has always been one thing Waltman does well its take a beating and come back, no matter what Bryan did he just couldn't get that 3 count or submission. Bryan tried an act of desperation, going for a Suplex off the ring apron, but Waltman knocked him down to the outside with a Spin Kick, then nailed a picture perfect dive over the top to the outside that drew a massive pop from the crowd! Waltman battled back admirably, busting out some big kicks and a dive or two off the top, getting some close near falls. Bryan then managed to lock in the Yes Lock, but Waltman made it to the ropes! Bryan lifts up Waltman and goes for a charging knee, but Waltman reverses to a roll up, 1-2-NO! Bryan goes for the Yes Lock and gets it, but Waltman reverses to a rollup again, 1-2-NO! X-FACTOR! 1-2-3, WALTMAN WINS IT!
BUT BRYAN HAD HIS FOOT ON THE ROPES, the ref sees it and the match continues! That was as close as it gets, had it not been for the ropes we'd have a new champion! Waltman doesn't argue with the ref, instead he lifts up Bryan and places him up top, looking perhaps for a Super X-Factor. Bryan shoves Waltman off, and calls for the Diving Headbutt, but Waltman kicks up to his feet and crotches Bryan. SUPER X-FACTOR, BUT BRYAN ROLLS OUT OF THE RING WITH THE LAST OF HIS ENERGY! Waltman desperately climbs to his feet and pulls the deadweight Bryan into the ring and goes for the cover, 1-2-NO, BRYAN LOCKS THE YES LOCK! Waltman tries to reach the ropes, but can't, SO HE REVERSES INTO THE BUZZKILLER! Bryan looks like he's going to tap, BUT REVERSES BACK INTO THE YES LOCK! Waltman is in the center of the ring and there's nowhere to go for Waltman, WALTMAN TAPS!
Winner- Daniel Bryan
The fans give both men a standing ovation, as Bryan helps Waltman to his feet and shakes his hand before raising his arm. Bryan leaves as the fans chant "Thank you Waltman" and give him one of the loudest ovations we've heard in Hybrid Pro. Waltman may not have won, but he made everybody step up and take notice tonight, he's back for one last run and could do big things in his last year of active competition!
NWA World Heavyweight Title Tournament 1st Round Match
UHAA Nation vs. Mistico
A definite clash of style here, you had the powerful Nation taking on the high flying luchador Mistico. Yet despite the styles clash, the match worked, their styles seemed to mesh and it made for a very interesting contest. It could have gone either way, indeed at one point Mistico locked La Mistica and nearly made Nation tap. But Nation managed to power his way out and hit the All Out Assault, which he closely followed with the Uhaa Combination, and there was no way Mistico was getting up after that.
Winner- Uhaa Nation
Nation celebrated post match, but not for long as Chuck Taylor ran down and distracted him. Nation responded with a massive Lariat followed by a Standing Shooting star Press. But in the process, Adam Cole rushed out and grabbed Nation from behind, hitting the Corona Crash. Johnny Gargano ran out for the save, but a bit late, as Cole has gained a measure of revenge for what happened at the last South Beach show. I have no doubts that Nation will be looking for revenge, but he also has a title tournament to concentrate on.
NWA World Heavyweight Title Tournament 1st Round Match
Randy Orton vs. Elijah Burke
While this was a solid matchup, it was perhaps a step down from the previous few matches, being a bit more slow paced, and they did lose the crowd a bit at times. Which is understandable, they've had a lot to react to tonight and must be a bit burned out at this point. Regardless this was pretty even, Burke was the heel by default as the fans have not forgotten his acts as part of The Prophecy a few months ago, while Orton got some pretty big cheers having always been pretty well loved in his spells in Hybrid Pro. Orton was the one to come out on top, as he made a fire filled comeback towards the end which he ended with a RKO, which was obviously enough for the 3 count.
Winner- Randy Orton
NWA World Heavyweight Title Tournament 1st Round Match
Kazuchika Okada vs Samoa Joe w/Jaka
What a main event this was, you had Okada who has made such a big impact on the NWA since his move to NWA Kenshiki, and has arguably been one of the big breakout stars in the NWA in 2014 so far. And you had Joe, who has been on a rampage for months here in Hybrid Pro and has set his sights on NWA gold, with his protégé Jaka watching on at ringside. Joe was a force to be reckoned with here, he has arguably never looked better and hit hard, taking the fight to Okada. Okada played this smart however, he tried to up the pace of the match and wear Joe out, picking his spots well and using more of his aerial game than he perhaps usually would use. Okada's downfall however was trying to match power with Joe, the arrogance of "The Rainmaker" coming out as he struggled to hit a Backdrop Driver and a German Suplex on Joe. That allowed Joe back into the match, showing Okada how it was done in the power stakes before locking in the Choke. Okada escaped however, hitting the Rainmaker, 1-2-2.999! Okada locked the Red Ink, as Joe did his best to hold on. He made it to the ropes, as Okada called for another Rainmaker. He goes for it, but Joe throws him back and nails the Enziguri. Joe picks up Okada, MUSCLE BUSTER! 1-2-3, Joe advances!
Winner- Samoa Joe
Our show ends with Jaka raising the hand of Joe, who looked very impressive here, and will be a force to be reckoned with for any of the other competitors in the tournament for sure. Uhaa Nation and Randy Orton also looked good, and indeed its going to be a very open tournament, anyone could win the belt and I can't wait to see who it will be. See you next week folks!

London storms out as Magnus is once again carried out on a stretcher. I'm guessing that this is the last we will be seeing of Magnus for a long time in Hybrid Pro. London's attack is definitely justified, but with Magnus so remorseful for what he had done, was it definitely the right thing to do?
