NWA OVERDRIVE
June 20, 2014
Hartford, CT
The fans are waiting in anticipation as the sound of "All the Things She Said" by t.A.T.u. can be heard and out walks Lisa Marie Varon! The fans give her a solid ovation, but why is she out here? The former Victoria takes a microphone and says that, as of now, she is the new "Head Bitch in Charge" around here! The fans give her a nice pop for that, but she goes on to explain. She says she has been made President of Operations here in NWA Overdrive, and that's afforded her some interesting opportunities.
She goes on to say that she took the liberty of hiring some help, and has now added Al Snow and Tommy Dreamer to the staff, making them Commissioner and General Manager respectively. The fans appeciate this and react positively, as these two are clearly well known and fan favorites. She says Snow will have control of making sure the best matches are taking place each and every show, and Dreamer will be making sure we get the best quality talent and that they are being treated fairly. But, as much as they will be responsible for their separate roles, she too will have her own roles and interests in the company.
She says tonight, her first order of business is injecting a little female action into what otherwise was a "sausage fest". This gets some approval, and she goes on to elaborate. She says the World Women's champion is now under contract with this company, but she needs some competition. Tonight will hold the first round of a four-woman tournament to decide who her first opponent will be. She says she thinks the fans are going to enjoy these matches, as they will be featuring four of the pound for pound best wrestlers in the world, female or otherwise.
Lisa Marie looks to continue but she is interrupted. Out comes Christian York, and he has a microphone in hand. York says that at the first show, he laid it all on the line and he came up empty handed. He says tonight he wants to rectify that and get the belt that belongs around his waist. Lisa Marie says that while she was impressed with his performance, he did lose and he as of now he's back at the bottom of the pack with everybody else. She says tonight there is going to be a four way dance, and the winner will get a shot at the Heavyweight title on the next show. York says he wants in that match, and Varon says he will be, and she wishes him luck... because he is going to need it.
From there, her music hits again and we move on to the first match of the evening.
#1 CONTENDERSHIP TOURNAMENT FOR WORLD WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP
Sara Del Rey vs. LuFisto
LuFisto would come out all energy and smiles, getting the fans behind her instantly with her charming ways, but Del Rey was not impressed. The self-proclaimed "Queen of Wrestling" did not show the French Canadian star any respect or remorse, and this ended up changing LuFisto's tune and turning this into a very serious and grueling contest. Both of these women are world class, well traveled and highly trained, so these fans got a really special show with a great story. Del Rey would try to really break LuFisto's will throughout, utilizing a tough ground game and hold after hold, but LuFisto is as tough as they come and would try her best not to surrender. The fans would cheer her on as she made exciting rallies, but a miscalculation would cost her. LuFisto would head up top and attempt to hit a Diving Headbutt, but Del Rey would dodge it, grabbing her arm and then snapping her into the LeBell Lock, and that was it. LuFisto couldn't hold on any longer, tapping and Del Rey advances in the tournament.
Delirious vs. Jimmy Jacobs
Delirious is always a crowd pleaser, and he is always a tough task for anyone to defeat. Jimmy Jacobs seemed bent on doing just that, but his drive and desire got the better of him. Jacobs is a very passionate man, and his emotions would run a little too high. The match would devolve into an all out brawl on the outside and Delirious was getting the better of it. Jacobs would grab a chair in desperation, smashing it into Delirious' gut and then choking him with it, getting himself disqualified in dramatic fashion.
After the match, Jacobs holds up the chair and smiles, taking in the jeers of the crowd before smashing Delirious with the chair one more time for good measure and then heading to the back.
Antonio Thomas vs. Xavier Woods
"The Promise" Antonio Thomas is a great athlete, but his arrogance got the better of him on this night. Thomas would take Woods a little too lightly, taking far too many moments to showboat or jeer with the crowd, and the cagey and talented Woods would take those moments to pick his spots wisely. Woods would end up reversing Thomas' attempt at hitting his Swinging Cutter, The Promised Land, which he took too much time to set up. Woods would manage to turn it into his Inverted Stomp Facebreaker, known as Lost in the Woods, which would yield him the three count victory.
#1 CONTENDERSHIP TOURNAMENT FOR WORLD WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP
Sarah Stock vs. Mercedes Martinez
Sarah Stock, otherwise known as "The Dark Angel", is known around the world for being one of the premier talents in women's wrestling. While Stock has a wordly reputation, many in the know are aware that Martinez is also considered to be one of the absolute best in the sport, making this another interesting chess match in this four-woman tournament. Martinez is slightly bigger than Stock, giving her a slight power advantage which she would use to set up her impressive array of suplexes. However, Stock is very dangerous and very quick, making her a tough opponent to keep down; add in her resilience, and she is extra confounding. Martinez would feel the match slipping away and her hunger for the title would overcome her. She would manage to go on a rampage, catching Stock with a boot to the face out of the corner to turn her inside out and then she would slam Stock around, attempting to pin her down but nothing was doing on that end. She would attempt to finish things with her patented Fisherman's Buster, but Stock would break free, catching Martinez with a Wheelbarrow into a Victory Roll and the stunned Martinez couldn't kick out. Stock is advancing to face Sara Del Rey on the next show to see who will challenge AJ Lee!
#1 CONTENDERSHIP TO OVERDRIVE HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
Christian York vs. Mike Mondo vs. Biff Busick vs. BJ Whitmer
This match was as chaotic as you might expect, and it mostly wasn't pretty. This was a hard hitting, brawling, scrapping sort of affair, and the fans were treated to a lot of up close and personal action. York would actually get the most near falls, and it is really no surprise: having come so close to winning the championship, he seemed almost like a man possessed and looked to get this win over quickly so he could move on to his rematch. Unfortunately, things would not go that way. York would make a calculated error, heading up top to attempt a Frog Splash onto Busick, but Whitmer would catch him and Suplex him to the outside from the buckle, getting a huge chant from these Hartford fans! Mike Mondo would come off the top and hit a Missile Dropkick on Busick as he was getting up, sending him out of the ring. Whitmer would make his way in and grab Mondo from behind, planting him with a Regal Plex and bridging it! The referee makes the three count, and BJ Whitmer is going to be taking on Rene Dupree on the next show!
Whitmer grabs the microphone afterwards as York gets into the ring, staring him down face to face. Whitmer says he doesn't care what York or anybody else has to say, and he damn sure doesn't give a crap about Rene Dupree. Whitmer says tonight, he won fair and square. He says at the last show York called himself one of the elite in this sport, and he's never heard such a load of garbage in his life. Whitmer says he can beat anybody, anytime, anywhere, and one on one, York can find that out the hard way, but next time they face off, Whitmer is going to have the Overdrive Heavyweight belt around his waist! Whitmer slams the mic into York's chest, and York holds it for a second and then says, "Wait..." Whitmer turns, looking irritated. "Congratulations... and I'll be holding you to that." Whitmer smiles out of the corner of his mouth and then walks on, victorious and ready for what lies ahead.
NWA OVERDRIVE X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP
Kid Kash vs. Stevie Richards
Kash and Richards have been hearing it a lot lately that they need to step aside and many thought they were lucky to even be in this match, but those people obviously forgot who we were talking about. Kash and Richards made damn sure to prove everyone wrong here tonight, exemplifying everything this division is supposed to stand for: No Rules, No Limits! Kash and Richards would have a high octane battle around the arena, chopping, kicking, flying, doing whatever it took to try to keep each other down, but neither man wanted to lose their moment in the sun. Kash was absolutely vicious, crossfacing Richards multiple times in the match and bloodying Richards' nose by the end of it. Richards would show his fighting spirit as he kept getting up and kept avoiding that deadly Brainbuster that Kash has used to put so many away.
Richards would bring a table into the ring at one point as he racked his brain, trying to figure out how he could end Kash and win the title. He looked like he might be trying for a Superplex, but Kash would headbutt and elbow his way out of it, and then hop off the buckles. Kash would hammer Richards with fists and then head up top, delivering a high impact Moonsault to Richards to drive him through the table, but it still wasn't over! Kash would set up a table on the outside afterwards, feeling the same desperation that Richards' had earlier, and he would then pull Richards to the apron. Kash looked like he was thinking of hitting his Brainbuster on Richards off the apron, but Richards broke free and seemed to be looking for an Implant DDT, but Kash double reversed him and sent multiple knees into his gut, finishing things off with a Double Underhook Piledriver off the apron through a table, getting "Holy Shit!" chants from the audience!
Kash shoves Richards back in and tries to get the win, but to everyone's shock, Richards kicks out! Kash can't believe it, but he tries for the Brainbuster again, but Richards fights out with punches and then haymakers to the head of Kash, following up with a last ditch effort Superkick to buy him some time. Richards rolls out of the ring and grabs a chair and then heads up top, looking to come off the ropes and smash Kash with the chair. Kash, though, bursts in a daze and leaps, dropkicking Richards' legs out from under him and crotching him, causing him to drop the chair! Kash lays out the chair and then heads up top. After a pretty long struggle, Kash manages to break Richards' will with head butts and slaps, and the fans brace themselves as Kash lifts Richards into the air... Brainbuster off the top turnbuckle onto the chair! Everyone's on their feet as Kash lays exhausted over the now completely unconscious Richards and the referee counts to the three.
Kid Kash is the first X Division champion of NWA Overdrive, but not without the fight of his life!
Kash waits in the ring with a microphone in hand as Richards regains his composure, shaking off the trauma and shock of such a physically exhausting contest. Kash goes on to say that this was a very proud moment for him, and he had a Hell of a match from a Hell of a competitor, and says he might be holding a belt in his hand, but everybody in this arena is a winner tonight! The fans give both men a big ovation as Kash and Richards shake and the show comes to a close.
