NWA OVERDRIVE: SHOW 3
June 25, 2014
New Haven, CT
The show opens with the Overdrive Heavyweight champion making his way out to the ring looking smug as the fans boo him mostly. Rene Dupree takes a microphone and says that he let everybody know from day one what he thinks of the fans, and he showed everybody what he could do when he left Bridgeport with the championship belt around his waist. He says that BJ Whitmer thinks he's accomplished something in this sport, and thinks he can talk down to people, and talk bad about Rene Dupree. Dupree says tonight, all of that talking has earned him a new accomplishment... being Rene Dupree's first defeated opponent as Overdrive Heavyweight champion!
The fans chant for Whitmer as Rene leaves, looking happy with himself.
Jimmy Jacobs vs. AR Fox
AR Fox is very agile and very talented, but Jimmy Jacobs is a mad man and a ring psychologist with few peers in the sport. On the first show, he picked apart Stevie Richards and bled him out in what was ultimately a losing effort. On the second show, he got himself disqualified by beating Delirious relentlessly with a chair. On this show, Jacobs wanted to get the long awaited win. These two men have faced off before, so they knew what to expect and knew the counters, but Jacobs had the better game plan and executed. With all of the dirty moves and disrespect, he was able to pick apart Fox and slow him down enough to make him vulnerable and sloppy, and by the end, was able to plant him with a DDT and latch on with the Guillotine Choke for the submission victory.
After the match, Jacobs was slow to let go and this was very concerning, however, out ran DELIRIOUS, who came out with fists flying and that sent Jacobs skirting back up the ramp, trying to avoid harm from the man he brutally assaulted on the last show.
Cat Power & Portia Perez vs. Nevaeh & Allysin Kay
Entertaining and physical, these ladies are all show women and they are all very tough competitors. The match wasn't all that long, but there was a lot to like and Nevaeh was able to nearly cave Power's face in with an upward punt kick straight to the face as she was doubled over in the center of the ring, knocking her out cold and gaining her team the victory.
Before the next match, "The F'N Machine" Brian Cage would make his way to the ring getting a mixed reaction. He's had a great couple of years, and he's pretty well known in most wrestling circles. Cage gets on the mic and says he wants to "make it quick." Cage says there's a couple of punks running around the Mid Atlantic parading around like they are the North American Tag Team champions. Cage says he had the most to do with the Pistols success back in Hybrid Pro, and he was the man responsible for those championships being in that faction.
Cage says he is making a claim for those titles, and he has looked high and low, far and wide, and has finally found a partner that he thinks can compliment his skills. Out to the ring comes a young man with blonde streaks walks out, and he introduces himself as Caleb Konley, and says he is going to be proud to be half of the next UNDISPUTED North American Tag Team champions!
These two go on to say that they are looking for a match, and will face anybody in the back... and that leads to the opening riff of "Give Me Back My Bullets" by Lynyrd Skynyrd hitting, and out walking former World Tag Team champions, and the challengers to those titles at the Great American Bash, The Briscoe Brothers!
Jay grabs a microphone and says they are here in Overdrive, and all they see is a couple of greased up monkey ass poseurs standing in the ring making challenges, and he's just got one question... are they ready to MAN UP!?
The fans are chanting for the Briscoes like crazy as this match gets underway!
Brian Cage & Caleb Konley vs. Jay Briscoe & Mark Briscoe
Cage and Konley looked pretty good in the early going, but the Briscoes have so much experience together, so many moves, and are two of the toughest guys around. While they haven't always gotten along and have had their differences, they were on the same page tonight and looked great. Jay would go looking for the J-Driller on Brian Cage, looking like they might get the win, but out to the ring came Lena Yada! She slides in and starts arguing with Jay, but cowers out and back up the ramp when it looks like he might grab her. The Rockstars' manager has done her job, as Cage was able to grab Jay into Weapon X from there and plant the Delaware native, and it's all over! Cage and Konley steal one from the Briscoes, however unintentional!
Yada laughs her way up the ramp until Mark turns the corner in a daze and makes chase, leaving Jay down in the ring and Cage and Konley just really, really happy to get that win and to have survived this contest.
Biff Busick vs. Samuel Shaw w/ Christy Hemme
Biff Busick had a good showing on the last show as he tried to become the number one contender to the Heavyweight championship. "The Star Destroyer" would have his work cut out for him tonight as the couple with a creepy vibe, Shaw and Hemme, made their way out to mixed to mild reactions. Shaw wears a sweater and gloves in the ring, and Hemme watches him work his methodical style with a child like glee, cheering on her man like a good housewife of sorts in her sexy but formal attire. Busick battles relentlessly, the fans getting behind him solidly as he shows off his hard hitting, fast paced style, but Hemme would trip him up as he ran off the ropes, causing him to stumble and Shaw capitalized, grabbing Busick into an STO into an Anaconda Vice, clamping on tight and telling him to "Shhh... go to sleep," and it was all over. Shaw had a crazed, sadistic look in his eye as he felt Busick's body go lifeless, and then almost looked like he was having an orgasm in the corner afterwards, his eyes rolling into the back of his head as he smiled a wide grin. Hemme would rub his back and tell him what a great man, a noble man, he is as they made their way up the ramp.
#1 CONTENDERSHIP TO THE NWA WORLD WOMEN'S TITLE TOURNAMENT FINAL
Sarah Stock vs. Sara Del Rey
The much anticipated finale to this four-woman tournament came to a close here in a great, competitive fashion that had the fans chanting "THIS IS AWESOME!" and "THIS IS WRESTLING!" throughout. From strong style to lucha libre to just good old fashioned brawling, these ladies went through phase after phase in this match, trying to break each other, trying to out wit one another, but it was clear these two were extremely well traveled and knowledgeable, and it wasn't going to be easy to end this one by any means. Del Rey looked to be rallying hard, hitting a couple of Piledrivers back to back to repeated two counts, and then locking on a Butterfly Hold on the mat, but "The Dark Angel" would get to the robes to break up the submission attempt. "The Queen of Wrestling" would continuously try to latch on with her LeBell Lock finisher, but Stock had it too well scouted and would either roll through and counter or get to the ropes very quickly to keep from taking much damage from the hold. In the end, it was a twisting Sunset Flip flipped over into a Reverse Prawn Hold that would keep the exhausted Del Rey down for the three, meaning "The Dark Angel" Sarah Stock will be challenging AJ Lee at Summer Reign for the World Women's championship in July!
NWA OVERDRIVE HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE
Rene Dupree (c) vs. BJ Whitmer
Dupree didn't appreciate the words of Whitmer at the last show, and he proved to anyone and everyone who questioned his abilities tonight that he is more than capable of handling himself in the ring against any caliber of opponent, taking on the world class Whitmer on the mat, striking, and any other way he wanted to do it and he held his own valiantly. Dupree was definitely the aggressor early on, which is how he was able to pick up the title in the first place, but the self-proclaimed "Buzzsaw" was the one who seemed to be rallying and making his mark by the end, lighting up the French Canadian star with chops and kicks, and seemed to be seeing opportunities to put an end to the match and make his way out of New Haven with the belt. Dupree would reverse an Exploder Suplex attempt by Whitmer, though, and floored him with a big European Uppercut, following up by looking for the Death Valley Bomb he's used to put each of his opponents away so far, but Whitmer broke free. Whitmer would deliver a high impact Reverse STO, and then latch on the Peruvian Necktie, and it seemed like it was all over... that is until a man with a Singapore cain in hand hit the ring wearing a hoodie and began beating Whitmer senseless with it, causing the referee to throw out the contest!
From there, the man with the hoodie picks up Whitmer and pumphandles him, lifting him up and driving him on the back of his head with the BRAINEATER! IT'S CHRIS DICKINSON! "BIG DIRTY" IS BACK, AND THESE FANS CAN'T BELIEVE IT! "The Original Death Machine" grabs the microphone, and he's got something to say, as always.
"Whitmer, you piece of shit, you thought you'd come back into my neck of the woods, you thought you'd bring your junkie ass, your over inflated ego, back to the North and there wouldn't be consequences!? Hell, Rother, you pussy, you feared me, you didn't want me on your shows, you didn't want the chaos, well I'm here, I'm on your front porch, and I'm taking a big old shit on everything you've tried to build without me! I'm the man who at Madison Square Garden pinned the World Heavyweight champion clean, one, two, three, and I'm the man who never got a shred of respect for it from anybody! Well, you know what, I hear Samoa Joe's got an opponent at the Bash, and that's fine. I'll be there with my own title, and then I'll come for his. I'll be there with the North American title when I win that bitch at Summer Reign!"
Dickinson tosses down the microphone, lays into Whitmer with another stomp, and then storms off to resounding cheers from the audience just for being absolutely psychotic as this show comes to a close.
