“El Juicio Final”
August 1st, 2014
Arena México
1. Delta, Guerrero Maya Jr. & Rey Cometa vs. Puma, Skándalo & Tiger
Tecnicos take the first and third falls but the bigger story comes from the post-match attack of Delta & Maya Jr. by Puma & Tiger and their father Felino. Atlantis makes the save and a series of trios matches can be expected in the future. This could prove to be a series of great matches if Felino and Atlantis remain in background and Atlantis’ feud with Ultimo Guerrero doesn’t pull Delta & Maya Jr. away. This could even prove to be a breakout for the next generation of Casas if this moves to Arena Coliseo and leads to a challenge for Delta & Maya Jr.’s CMLL Arena Coliseo Tag Team Championships.
2. Ephesto, Euforia & Mephisto vs. Blue Panther, La Máscara & Máximo
Rudos take two straight falls after Máscara fouls Mephisto and costs his team a victory. Máscara quickly challenges Mephisto to a match for the Mexican National Light Heavyweight Championship at the CMLL 81st Anniversary show. Máscara gets in a shoving match with Máximo and then slaps the veteran Panther after the match before Mephisto & Ephesto attack him. Panther & Máximo leave Máscara to fend for himself and he takes a devastating assisted Demon Driller.
3. Mascara vs. Caballero Match: Marcela & Princesa Sugehit vs. La Seductora & Princesa Blanca
Rudas took the first fall and tecnicas answered by winning the second. The third fall started with Seductora beating Marcela but Sugehit beat the odds and Seductora & Blanca herself to win. Blanca immediately blamed referee Bestia Negra for the loss and knocked him out with a kick. Blanca and Seductora left the ringside area without taking their punishments but were forced to return by CMLL officials. La Seductora is unmasked and announced as Irene Laguna, a 23 year veteran from Guerrero, Mexico. Blanca has her head shaved and immediately challenges Sugehit to a retirement vs. mask match at the Anniversary show.
4. NWA World Welterweight Championship Match: La Sombra vs. Volador Jr.
Volador wins the first fall quickly and Sombra evens the contest in even less time. The usual absurdly short starting falls for a match between these two, followed by a superb 20+ minute fall to end it. There was over a dozen near falls in the last minute before Sombra destroyed Volador with the Shadow Driver. La Sombra’s first defense of the NWA World Welterweight Championship and he remains the only double NWA World Champion. Volador challenged Sombra for a hair vs. mask Anniversary show rematch but Sombra seemed uninterested.
5. Atlantis, Dragón Rojo Jr. & Mascara Dorada vs. Último Guerrero, Rey Escorpión & Shocker
Máscara Dorada replaced Titán, who suffered a minor foot injury earlier this week. Rudos win in straight falls thanks to Atlantis being disqualified in the second fall for pulling the mask of Guerrero. Guerrero had actually pulled the mask of Atlantis in the first but the referee was preoccupied with Rojo Jr. and Escorpión brawling at ringside. Atlantis immediately demanded the long-awaited mask vs. mask match take place at the Anniversary show for the hundredth time this year. Guerrero agreed and refused to leave the ring until CMLL officials announce the match. After several tense minutes and lots of confusion at ringside, the ring announcer officially announced that Atlantis and Guerrero will have a mask vs. mask match at the 81st Anniversary show on September 19th in Arena Mexico.
6. Caballero vs. Caballero Match: Rush vs Negro Casas
Rush won the first fall with the corner dropkick and Casas evened the match with the Casita. Rush used a ref distraction by his Hijos del Terror partner Texano Jr. to knock Casas unconscious with a vicious chair shot and win the third fall. Rush's fifth hair win of his career, second this year alone, and Casas’ ninth known hair match loss. Rush & Texano Jr. celebrated and humiliated Casas by toasting and pouring champagne over his body before Felino, Puma & Tiger could pull him from the ring.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre majority owner Francisco “Paco” Alonso Lutteroth met with several company officials prior to the “Juicio Final” event tonight in Arena Mexico and announced his impending retirement. According to sources present at the meeting, Alonso will officially retire on September 14th, his 60th birthday, but will oversee the 81st Anniversary show on September 19th. WON is also reporting that Alonso may be succeeded by Salvador “Sal” Lutteroth Guerrero, the great-grandson of CMLL founder Salvador Lutteroth Gonzalez and grandson of Guerrero family patriarch Salvador “Gory” Guerrero Quesada. WON wasn’t able to confirm whether this was alluded to by Alonso in the meeting or simply speculation by CMLL officials. According to sources, Lutteroth has worked for the company behind the scenes in several different roles for the last decade in an effort to learn all facets of the family business in anticipation of Alonso’s retirement.
