NWA New York Presents: Summerfest Live on iPPV
Pre Show- Chuck Taylor def Santino in what was pretty much a comedy match when he blew up the Cobra with a grenade, then pinned him after the Awful Waffle.
We are live in the NWA New York Arena for Summerfest, the iPPV spectacular that promises to give some truly exciting in-ring action, as well as settle some scores along the way. Let's leap straight into the action with our opening contest.
John Morrison vs Justin Gabriel
A great opening contest here, as two tremendously exciting competitors go at it one on one in a match filled with tremendous high flying, high risk action. Morrison is coming off a run as an NWA World Tag Team Champion as one half of The Rockstars of Wrestling, and now wanted to make an impact as a singles competitor, with Gabriel also looking to re-establish himself after a long rivalry with The Texus. This exciting matchup would end when Gabriel missed a 450 and crashed onto the canvas, with Morrison hitting the Nitro Blast followed by Starship Pain for 3.
Winner- John Morrison
"Flawless" Joe Hennig vs Heath Slater
Hennig had quite the spectacular entrance, with a sparkling pyro and a new theme song based on Paul Orndorff's old "Simply Wonderful" WCW theme called "Simply Flawless". Slater put up a fight, but this was largely just a showcase for the all new and improved Joe Hennig, showcasing those flawless wrestling skills and a new arrogance that I think would make his father proud. Hennig hits his newly renamed finisher, 100% Flawless, and gets the 3 count.
Winner- Joe Hennig
The Primetime Players (Darren Young and Titus O'Neill) vs The New Nation (Ezekiel Jackson and Big E Langston)
Both of these teams are new to NWA New York, and want to impress. As much as The Primetime Players are a popular team, that didn't really help them out a whole ton here as The New Nation against just looked utterly dominant. They took O'Neill down with a Double Clothesline, then grabbed Young. DOUBLE BODY PRESS TO THE FLOOR! The crowd chant "holy shit" as Young is done and O'Neill gets back to his feet. They grab O'Neill and hit a massive Double Powerbomb, and that gets them the 3 count.
Winners- The New Nation
The Switchblade Conspiracy make their way out and are ready for the grudge tag team match. John Cena is out as the ring announcer has an announcement.
"Ladies and gentlemen, due to the injuries suffered at the hands of Brodus Clay on NWA New York TV, Michael Elgin will be unable to compete tonight. This match will now be a handicap match."
This is not good for John Cena, two on one may be odds to great for even him to overcome.
Handicap No DQ Match
John Cena vs The Switchblade Conspiracy (Dean Ambrose and Solomon Crowe)
Well Cena definitely gave it his all in this match, but it was an uphill struggle from the beginning for him. He got the better of Crowe early on, but Ambrose started playing mind games from the apron, calling Cena "washed up" and saying that he will die in the ring tonight. The distractions finally got to Cena and Crowe and Ambrose started pulling some double teams, and taking full advantage of the No DQ stipulation by making constant use of chairs, singapore canes and various other weapons. All looked lost for Cena as The Switchblade Conspiracy almost toyed with Cena, looking like they could finish him anytime they wanted.
THEN MICHAEL ELGIN HEADED FOR THE RING! The fans explode and I have no idea how Elgin made it, the man was utterly annihilated by Brodus Clay last week on NWA New York TV and yet he's here, though looking very worse for wear. Cena sees him and manages to fight off Ambrose, grabbing a chair and hitting a desperation chairshot before crawling over and tagging Elgin. Elgin charges in and takes down Ambrose and Crowe by himself, letting out a scream of rage as he does it. Elgin takes Crowe out of the ring with a SICK CHAIRSHOT, then Cena holds back Ambrose for another one. Elgin charges, BUT AMBROSE MOVES AND ELGIN HITS CENA! Cena falls out of the ring as Ambrose grabs Elgin, DIRTY DEEDS ON THE CHAIR! 1-2-3, The Switchblade Conspiracy win it as Elgin has actually cost Cena the win inadvertently.
Winners- The Switchblade Conspiracy
The Switchblade Conspiracy leave in a hurry, with Ambrose mocking Cena and Elgin for their miscommunication. Cena is far from happy, as he shouts at Elgin for what happened. Elgin looks really pissed off, AND SHOVES CENA TO THE CANVAS! Elgin leaves kicking the guardrails with frustration as Cena looks perplexed, with the fans giving a pretty mixed reaction to this to. I can see why Elgin is frustrated, he needs to get things back on track and perhaps some time away to recover would benefit him.
NWA New York Tag Team Title Match
Mattitude (Matt Hardy "Version 1.0 and "Number 1 MF'er" Shannon Moore) vs America's Most Wanted ("Wildcat" Chris Harris and "Cowboy" James Storm) vs The Second City Saints (CM Punk and "Classic" Colt Cabana)
Mattitude had established themselves as the top team in the NWA by winning the NWA New York Tag Team Titles, but since then have faced an increasing challenge from rival teams America's Most Wanted and The Second City Saints, who have both reunited thanks to the rivalry between Colt Cabana and Chris Harris.
It was a chaotic three way tag match, as I think we all expected, with The Saints definitely having the crowd support. Unlike a lot of these type of matches, we had 1 member of each team in the ring at the same time, giving us a 3 way situation that proved interesting, with America's Most Wanted and Mattitude trying to work together to take The Second City Saints out of the match. It worked early on as they worked over Cabana, but they were only able to co-exist for so long before the hatred began to slip out, and soon the two of them imploded and started fighting each other. This allowed Cabana to crawl over and tag Punk who cleaned house, shouting "it's clobberin' time" as he did it.
Punk, Storm and Hardy ended up brawling to the floor, fighting away as things got wild, BEFORE MOORE TOOK THEM ALL OUT WITH A MOONSAULT! This left us with Harris and Cabana in the ring, as Cabana went for the Colt 45. But Harris managed to slip behind Cabana and sneak a Low Blow in which the ref didn't see. CATATONIC! 1-2-3, NEW CHAMPIONS!
Winners- NEW NWA New York Tag Team Champions, America's Most Wanted
America's Most Wanted have stolen the belts from Mattitude, with Harris also getting one over Colt Cabana in the process. You have to think that Mattitude will want a rematch, and The Second City Saints definitely have some unfinished issues to.
NWA World Junior Heavyweight Title, James Gibson Retirement Match
Daniel Bryan vs James Gibson
So this match took on a whole new level of significance thanks to the announcement that James Gibson is to retire from active competition after this matchup regardless of whether he wins or loses. The fans were completely and utterly behind Gibson from the beginning, to the extent that they were actually booing Bryan, as they wanted to see their home promotion's star go out on top.
The two spent the first 10 minutes of this just playing a game of human chess, exchanging holds and counter holds of the highest quality and utterly fascinating the crowd in the process. Every time Bryan won an exchange the fans booed and Bryan just seemed to laugh about it as it was in the spirit of the match, while they cheered every single move Gibson hat.
Bryan had a long period of control in the middle of this, playing along and being the bad guy by pushing the rules, including telling the ref that "he has until 5" after waiting until the last minute to release from a rope break. Everybody was engrossed in this and knew it could go either way when Gibson fought back.
Gibson did indeed make a fightback as Bryan struggled, missing a Headbutt from the top and also crashing out of the ring after a missed Running Kick attempt. Gibson managed to grab Bryan AND HIT THE GIBSON DRIVER, 1-2-NO! TRAILER HITCH! Bryan is screaming in pain and this could be it. BRYAN MAKES THE ROPES!
Gibson goes for one more Gibson Driver, but Bryan reverses, YES LOCK! The fans are chanting "NO NO NO" as they don't want Gibson to tap, and he doesn't, HE MAKES THE ROPES! The two climb to their feet as the end is definitely close.
THEN PAUL LONDON RUNS DOWN TO THE RING WITH A CHAIR, OH FOR FUCKS SAKE! HE SMASHES THE REF WITH THE CHAIR! Garbage starts flying into the ring as this match ends a no contest.
Winner- No Contest
London charges and smashes Gibson with the chair, before throwing the chair in Bryan's face. He flips the bird to the entire crowd as they chant "bullshit" as the top of their lungs, and I completely agree with them. LONDON THEN GRABS THE WORLD JUNIOR HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE AND RUNS OFF INTO THE CROWD! London has stolen Bryan's belt as Bryan watches on, still recovering from the chairshot.
Gibson and Bryan both look very frustrated by this outcome and the fans are deflated, but it doesn't take away from the effort they put in. The two exchange a handshake and embrace as the fans pick up and give Gibson a standing ovation and "thank you Gibson" chants. The entire locker room empties to applaud Gibson as he looks ready to cry. He walks up the ramp and shakes every fan and wrestler by the hand on the way, waving to them all for the last time as he goes backstage. Thank you James Gibson, your achievements will never be forgotten.
Bryan meanwhile runs off into the crowd, in an attempt to catch up with London who will be long gone by this point. London has his title, what will Bryan do to get it back?
Main Event, NWA New York Heavyweight Title Match
"King" Brodus Clay vs The Rock
A match that has been on the cards since The Rock made his comeback several months ago, the fans were red hot for this match, The Rock's first singles match since his comeback. He had one hell of a challenge on his plate though in the 2014 King of the Ring Brodus Clay, who after being pinned by The Rock at The Great American Bash in a tag team match is now out to end The Rock's career.
It was a war of a match for sure, as The Rock fired everything in his arsenal at Brodus, and managed to hold his own despite the size and weight advantage of "King" Brodus. Brodus on the other hand just used that raw power of his, tossing Rock around with ease and brutalising him in the exact same way he has done to so many opponents over the past few months.
After a long period of control from Brodus, he went for the G-Grip as he looked to end it, but Rock counters, ROCK BOTTOM! Rock is too hurt to make the cover as both men struggle to their feet, and The Rock fires away with punches, followed by a spit punch that has Brodus wobbling on the ropes. One more spit punch and Brodus is sent outside the ring. The two brawl on the outside before it gets back inside again, and Brodus goes for a Splash Mountain. He goes for it, but Rock moves and the referee get squashed in the corner!
Brodus grabs Rock, G-GRIP! He covers Rock but the referee is out, and Michael Elgin makes his way down to the ring, which distracts Brodus. He's cheering on his tag partner The Rock and begging him to get back up. Brodus then grabs a chair and wants to put an end to The Rock's career, he wants that chair assisted Brodus Bomb. Elgin isn't having any of this, he leaps on the apron and grabs the chair from Brodus who obviously doesn't appreciate that. Rock however is up, ROCK BOTTOM! Elgin with chair in hand gets in the ring and the two call for a Double People's Elbow as the fans go nuts!. They charge the first rope and then the second, AND ELGIN SMASHES ROCK WITH THE CHAIR! What the hell is Elgin doing, he's smashing Rock over and over again with the chair as the fans boo the hell out of him!
Elgin leaves as Brodus looks on confused, before grabbing the chair and placing it over Rock's lifeless body. BRODUS BOMB! The ref recovers, 1-2-3, Brodus wins it thanks to Michael Elgin, and I never thought I'd say those words.
Winner- Brodus Clay
Brodus Clay has overcome the challenge of The Rock, all thanks to the betrayal of Michael Elgin on his now former tag partner The Rock. Brodus will now almost certainly go on to fight Samoa Joe for the NWA World Heavyweight Title, while The Rock will have to pick himself up from this and try and get some revenge. The question is why? Why did Michael Elgin do this? Was it frustration from the bad few weeks he has had, or is there something more deep seated here that caused Elgin's betrayal? We can only hope that this is answered on NWA New York TV on Friday. Thanks for tuning in, we will see you this Friday.
