Two good sized competitors took the ring here, both over 6 foot tall and weighing around 240 lbs. Oshun was clearly looking to psyche out "Mr. Handle That" with cheap tactics and smack talk early, but it was clear the explosive Facen wasn't having any of it. Facen would manage to block the Rain Drop (Full Nelson Slam), breaking loose and hitting a Standing Rock Bottom, followed by a big Jackhammer to get the pinfall. Facen has a good physique and energy, and really seemed to connect with the fans here in Panama City, who were happy to see him get the win in a decent opener.
Misled Youth (Jude Mackenzie & Joshua Masters) vs. Santos & Eddie Taures w/ La Rosa Negra
While Santos and Taures may have got lucky last week when JD Maverick abandoned his partner James Alexander, leaving them all but handed a win, this week was much different. It was clear Santos and Taures were placed more in their typical role on this particular show, as they got worked and worked hard by the impressive team of Misled Youth. Masters is more of a powerhouse, while Mackenzie has a bit more speed, but these guys seemed to have a whole book of tag team moves at their disposal, as well as some pretty nifty impact moves individually. The match would come to an end when Masters would get Santos up on his shoulders, dropping him with onto his knee with Fireman's Carry Gutbuster and holding him in position as Mackenzie flew off the top with a Double Stomp to the head, effectively ending the night and one match winning streak of Santos and Taures. Only La Rosa Negra seemed to be disappointed.
JD Maverick vs. James Alexander
The Canadian veteran JD Maverick and the younger James Alexander had been teaming for some time as of last week, but all of that changed. Maverick would leave his partner for dead after some miscommunication, and now these two former friends are at odds. Both men have a similar look and style, so it was only the disrespectful comments, taunts, and cheap shots that lead the fans to eventually back Alexander. There was some decent selling in this, as it was primarily a brawl with resting holds in between, eventually speeding up in portions but never really hitting a truly high gear. Maverick would end up rolling up Alexander, extinguishing what looked to be his "house of fire" moment with a School Boy and his feet on the ropes to steal a win! Maverick gets some great heat here, as he really knows how to work a crowd, while Alexander looks more sympathetic with each passing match.
Out to the ring come two unknowns to myself, lead by a confident looking man in a casual suit. The man leading the duo introduces himself as Larry Dallas, and says he has the best and hottest new tag team anywhere behind him, and you can simply call them the NOW! To his left is Vik Dalishus, and to his right is Hale Collins, and they want to issue an open challenge to anybody in the back who thinks they've got what it takes, and they'll find out that the future of this sport is NOW!
This brings out two guys who don't seem too impressed in Homicide and Hunico, who get a good pop from this Panama City crowd! Homicide says he don't know about the future, but he knows about now, and right now he's debuting his new partner, his vato Hunico, in the new LAX, and they are going to kick some ass old school! So that means somebody better NOW call 911!
None of the men in the ring seemed to be expecting this, and all looked kind of panicked as Homicide and Hunico ran to the ring and took things to the outside immediately as the bell sounded!
LAX (Homicide & Hunico) vs. The NOW (Vik Dalishus & Hale Collins) w/ Larry Dallas
This was pretty one sided, as The NOW just didn't really seem up for the kind of match Homicide and Hunico were bringing. The referee would try to bring order to things, but Homicide would grab a chair on the outside and whack Dalishus in the back, while Hunico would fly off the apron and hit a Hurricanrana on Collins! The referee would call for the bell, and while the win was technically given to The NOW by disqualification, the fans and anyone else with a brain could see that LAX are back and are a force to be reckoned with! LAX would posture in the ring with a great deal of fanfare as Dallas would pull his boys from ringside, seething at his big reveal being spoiled by the thuggish duo celebrating in the ring.
-Intermission-
Autograph signing and photo opportunities with Shane Helms and Daniel Bryan, as well as a meet and greet with the rest of the roster.
"Heartless" Derek Ryze vs. Jonny Vandal
Ryze and Vandal would bring the fans back into things with a very well worked contest. Vandal would once again get the fans against him, this time by offering a handshake early and then pulling it back, sliding his hands through his hair, showing no respect to Ryze early on. Ryze would make him pay for it, showing up the veteran early on the mat and then taking the fight to him around ringside with brawling and shoot kicks. Vandal would manage to come back on the outside, catching Ryze on coming with an elbow to the face, followed by a Snap Suplex on the floor and then a Pescado to the outside to really make him hurt. Vandal would maintain control for a couple more minutes before trying to end it, hitting an Enzuigiri that sent Ryze against the ropes, and then nailing a Body Splash to his back, trying to set up a Kneeling Superkick, but Ryze ducks it and pops up with a shocking Jumping Ace Crusher! From there Ryze attempts a Buzzsaw Kick, but Vandal manages to roll him through with a School Boy take over, pushing him to his knees, and then pops him with that Kneeling Superkick! It was lights out there, as Vandal gets one, and gets it clean in an impressive match by both men! The fans are mixed on this, but every one had to respect the effort and craft of these two tonight.
Manik & Lince Dorado vs. Chasyn Rance & DJ Z
Chasyn Rance and DJ Z were ridiculous, with Rance coming out in a modified bathrobe with his name on the back and sparkly headband, and Z with oversized headphones, pretending scratch records in the air and yelling, "BRO!" a lot. Manik and Dorado are two masked men of mystery, with both having a very quick paced style influenced heavily by lucha libre, and were easy for the fans to get behind. Rance and Z are both outstanding wrestlers, and did a good job of making the offense from Manik and Dorado seem particularly devastating, as well as taking down the pace in wise ways to give the fans a chance to breathe. In the end, Manik would catch DJ Z taunting a little too much after hitting a Headscissors DDT on Dorado that sent the Puerto Rican star out of the ring, lifting him up from behind in a Double Chickenwing and sending him chest first onto his knees! That is able to end the match, as a groggy and disoriented Rance, who'd taken some big offense on the outside, couldn't make it in for the save! The fans are very satisfied here, as Rance and Z look good in a loss and Manik and Dorado are pretty over here in Panama City. Score one for the luchadores!
Kenny King makes his way out to the ring and the fans don't know what to think until he starts speaking. King says he's sad to be here in Panama City, as he'd rather be back in Ibiza, where he just left, or in Vegas, where he was a few nights ago, a place that can really party! Instead "The King of the Night" is here in Panama City, on a lame show with lame stars, and of course the promoters are expecting him to save it! Well, of course he will, because he can't do anything but have the best match on the show! King says he doesn't care who comes out, because they are just going to be a small part of what will otherwise be an epic night for Kenny King!
His face seems to change and his attitude shifts as a man by the name of Raymond Rowe makes his way from behind the curtain. Rowe has a mic, and before he speaks, decides it's not worth it and tosses the microphone over his shoulder and runs down, ripping the bandana from his face and hat from his head as he does, and King meets him with some punches as the bell sounds.
Raymond Rowe vs. "The King of the Night" Kenny King
King tries to take the fight to the bigger Rowe early, but Rowe grabs him up and takes him over with an Overhead Belly to Belly Suplex to send a big message to "The King of the Night"! Rowe isn't done, grabbing up King and whirling him, tossing him with a violent Hip Toss right into the buckles, sending him crashing to the mat on the back of his head! King powders from here and looks like he might take off, but Rowe rushes out and grabs him from behind as the fans cheer, only to get a thumb to the eye! King manages to follow that up with a whip, and then Dropkicks Rowe in a big way against the apron, knocking him loopy for a moment! Back in the ring, King attempts to lift Rowe up on his shoulders, maybe looking for the Royal Flush I (TKO), but Rowe slides off his back and grabs him up with a German Suplex! King stumbles up, and Rowe catches him with a Running Double Knee that sends him flying into the buckles again, and these fans are going nuts for the high impact onslaught of Rowe! Rowe stomps around the ring, goading the fans and taunting King to get up. King pulls himself up on the ropes and back up, and gets grabbed right into a Full Nelson. King manages to slide out of it and tries a roll up on Rowe, but Rowe escapes it. King runs off the ropes, looking for something, but Rowe delivers a big Lariat that stops him dead, and leaves him looking like roadkill! Rowe picks him back up, yelling out, and it's over... DEATH ROWE (Full Nelson Knee Strike)! Rowe pins the lifeless corpse that was once Kenny King and it's all over! Raymond Rowe makes a huge debut here, but King doesn't look too bad, all things considered, and played his role very well in getting him over.
NWA WORLD JUNIOR HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE
Daniel Bryan (c) vs. "The Hurricane" Shane Helms
These fans were all kinds of loud for this, as they'd been waiting all night for this epic dream match. Helms looked good here, his hair in cornrows and wearing a red and black body suit that covered all but his arms; his fists were taped black and he looked ready for a fight. Bryan was sporting his traditional maroon and white, and his beard was ratty and unkempt as ever. "Goatface" seemed equally ready to tangle, and the tension was palpable. Bryan would test Helms' ground game to start, and it seemed like Helms might be in trouble early. Bryan would force Helms to the ropes three times early on, really dogging him and trying to get in the head of the former 7-time champion. Helms would finally manage to get one up on Bryan, countering a takedown and BLASTING him with windmill like forearms, followed by vicious knee strikes against the ropes, and then face washes in the corner! The fans were chanting for Helms here as he ran and hit a Boot Scrape Dropkick to Bryan, sending him to the floor!
Helms would proceed to go up top, and he would fly out, hitting a Cross Body to Bryan on the floor that had these fans going crazy! That move seemed to take a bit out of the 40 year old, though, and may have been ill advised. Bryan would recover and hit a series of kicks and European uppercuts before heading inside and hitting his Suicide Dive through the ropes to knock "The Hurricane" pretty loopy. Bryan would get a series of near falls from there once back inside, and things looked grim for the living legend. Had Helms glory days really passed him this far by? No, it seems not. Bryan would attempt a final kick from his 10 kick combo, but Helms would duck and grab him with a School Boy for a short two count. Bryan would get up and immediately run at Helms, but Helms would grab him into a waist lock and then cross his arms, hitting an X-Plex for a two count!
Helms would attempt to Superkick Bryan as he was on his knees, but Bryan would duck it. Bryan would raise his head and Helms was ready, hitting a Shining Wizard! Helms would go for the cover again, but just a two! Helms would seize the moment, though, and latched on with a Cross Armbar! Bryan looked to be in trouble and looked close to tapping for a second, but got to the ropes! Helms tried to capitalize, looking to grab up Bryan, but Bryan took Helms down into the YES! Lock (Omoplata Crossface)! Helms looked to be in some trouble here, but also got to the ropes right as you thought he might tap! The fans couldn't believe it and were chanting up a storm!
Bryan would try for a Dragon Suplex, but Helms would block and roll him up for a close two count. Helms would deliver a big Superkick, stunning Bryan on his feet and leaving him open for the Nightmare on Helms Street (Reverse Facelock Elbow Drop)! Helms would cover, but still just a two! He makes the motion, bringing the fists down and he's calling for the Vertebreaker! Helms grabs Bryan and pulls his arms up, twisting him, but Bryan manages to flip over the move and hits a Dragon Suplex... and he transitions into the YES! Lock! Helms is in the middle of the ring and has nowhere to go... and he taps! Helms has to tap!
Helms and Bryan share a handshake after the match, clearly having even more respect for each other after this showdown than they did before, but before things can get too mushy, the fans break into boos as Jonny Vandal and JD Maverick hit the scene! What is this!?
THE FANS ARE GOING CRAZY! WHAT ARE THESE GUYS DOING!?
Vandal and Maverick grab up Helms and deliver a Double Superkick! Vandal then holds down Bryan, as Maverick goes up top... and he comes down onto the champion with an assisted Flying Elbowdrop, courtesy of the Junior Heavyweight title!!! These fans can't believe it, and out to the ring runs James Alexander and Derek Ryze! These guys are out there and they are mixing it up with Vandal and Maverick, laying into them and sending them out of the ring! Vandal and Maverick rush up the ramp, not wanting any more of their former opponents from this evening, but have clearly sent their message as Alexander and Ryze help up the two greats of this sport, showing them the appropriate respect as this show comes to a close.
