From SoundStage 20 in Orlando, Florida
As the show opens, out comes the General Manager of Impact Wrestling, MVP, who gets a good reaction from the crowd. He works the crowd with some pleasantries as Josh Matthews and Matt Striker analyze why he might be out here. MVP says tonight two more tournaments will begin, as the Impact Wrestling title and Tag Team title tournaments continue. He says tonight this Orlando crowd and the world will get a look at the ladies of Impact Wrestling, the "Knockouts", if you will, who will show every one why Impact Wrestling is the home of the best women's wrestling in the world. Secondly, tonight is very exciting because the Impact Wrestling "X Division" will be unveiled. The title is not about weight limits or time limits, it's about no limits. No count outs, no time limits, no disqualifications: the X Division will be one of the most exciting divisions in all of wrestling, and you can only find it here in Impact Wrestling! Tonight, two three way dances will go down, and the two men who walk out of those will be forced to climb at "Final Resolution", because the first X Division champion will be determined in a Ladder Match! The fans like the sounds of this, and MVP says it's time to get down to business, and hands off the microphone to Jeremy Borash, who's ready to introduce our first combatants of the evening.
X Division Title Tournament
Justin Gabriel vs. Kenny Omega vs. Kalisto
Kenny Omega would manage to outlast two very capable opponents in the South African sensation, Gabriel, and the very agile luchadore Kalisto in this opener after reversing a Huracanrana attempt by Kalisto, switching his position on his shoulders to the Electric Chair, and then delivering the One Winged Angel to get the crowd going crazy and get the pinfall. Omega was a fantastic showman throughout, working the crowd well even as he played more of a heel throughout, but his charisma was magnetic and undeniable.
Backstage, we see Maria Kanellis standing in with a leather clad and hooded AJ Styles, who doesn't look pleased. Kanellis asks what his mentality is this week after defeating Chris Jericho last week and nearly getting into a physical confrontation with Seth Rollins. Styles says that he doesn't care who wins tonight, one way or another, he's going to get his hands of Seth Rollins and he's going to give him the worst beating of his life. Twice he was screwed out of his opportunity to obtain World championship gold, and he's made good on that promise once, when he beat the living hell of Chris Jericho last week and made him beg as he threatened to snap his leg. Sooner or later, Seth Rollins will be beaten, humbled, and he will beg.
Knockouts Title Tournament
Dark Angel vs. Ivelisse
These two fantastic women's stars would have a lucha inspired contest, with sound technical wrestling and, by the end, some heated brawling. The pace would pick up in the end, as both women traded a series of quick roll-ups, but the Dark Angel would manage to catch Ivelisse and lock her up in her pet submission, La Reienera, to get the submission and advance to the finals of the tournament.
We head backstage, where interviewer Maria Kanellis is standing in with Cesaro, Chris Hero, and Lord William Regal, the team known as the Kings of Wrestling. Kanellis says many feel that it was Regal's interference that helped the Kings overcome the red hot Young Bucks last week. Hero goes on to answer that things that burn red hot tend to burn out quickly, and last Young Bucks burned out and will eventually fade away as the shadow of the Kings of Wrestling will blanket the world of wrestling! William Regal goes on to say that he has no idea what kind of allegations or gross attacks on his character have been spewed across the rags and the internet that pollute this once proud business, but last week, William Regal was not the story... the story was as it always is, and that is the Kings reign supreme! Kanellis asks Cesaro specifically if he suffered any injuries, as it looked like his arm may have been hurt during the match, but the "Swiss Superman" says he is as fit as an oxen, and will be ready for the challenge tonight! With that, Cesaro flexes, and then the Kings hit their signature pose as William Regal grimaces behind them smugly, his nose turned up as the show heads to the next match.
X Division Title Tournament
Jay Lethal vs. Trent Barreta vs. Johnny Gargano
There was a lot of attitude and great showmanship here, as all three men would work the crowd and get them invested in this action packed triple threat. The former World Junior champion Johnny Gargano had to be seen as a favorite, and he did very well, but it was he who ultimately fell victim to the Jay Lethal's patented Lethal Injection out of seemingly nowhere, and nobody kicks out of that. Lethal will be heading to the finals of this tournament to face Kenny Omega in a Ladder Match at "Final Resolution".
Backstage, Seth Rollins is in his locker room and he's shirtless, pacing in front of the camera. He says AJ Styles talks a lot, but he's not focused on Styles tonight. He says in due time, it won't be Seth Rollins begging, it'll be Seth Rollins getting his hand raised as the first ever Impact Wrestling champion, and to do that, he has to beat Sami Zayn. He says Sami Zayn has proven himself to be one of the best around, but he's nothing to him but the next victim of his march towards greatness. He says Sami Zayn is tough, but he will break, because the reign of Rollins has begun, and nothing can stop it!
Knockouts Title Tournament
Kimber Lee vs. "AK-47" Allysin Kay
Where the first match of this tournament was a beautiful display, these two had a very rough, strong style contest, a violent brawl that was full of fire that was kindled at the first episode of this program. Kay works at the valet for fellow Detroit natives the Motor City Machine Gus, while Kimber Lee was the valet of the now departed Juicy Product, and the two got into a bit of scrap on the outside during their contest last week. This week, they would throw every heavy hit they had at one another, with Kimber Lee's vicious palm strikes nearly ending the night for the "AK-47", but Kay would manage to somehow keep fighting and eventually submit Lee with a modified Gogoplata choke, going to the finals to face the Dark Angel at "Final Resolution".
In the interview area we see Maria Kanellis once again standing in, and she has with her Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards, the American Wolves, who will be facing the Kings of Wrestling later tonight. Kanellis says that last week they were able to beat the world traveled Forever Hooligans, but tonight they face a much different challenge in the Kings of Wrestling. She asks if they are worried about the presence of William Regal, who seemed to be a difference maker in their match last week with the Young Bucks. Edwards says it doesn't matter if it's the Kings of Wrestling or the Young Bucks, it doesn't matter who they face in the finals... the hunters of professional wrestling have scouted out everyone, they know their prey, and they are ready to kill any team that stands in their way! Richards goes on to say that if William Regal is feeling froggy, all he has to do is jump, because the Wolves can take all three of them, it doesn't matter. He says the Wolves has a sort of manifest destiny, and that no matter what obstacles, that will not change. They are destined to be remembered as the greatest team of their generation, and that's why they were brought here. He says this roster bolsters without question the greatest tag team division in wrestling. It is now their time, the time of the Wolves, to stand atop that elite list as the MOST elite, as the ABSOLUTE best, the GREATEST and FIERCEST, and tonight, they will rip the Kings of Wrestling limb from limb if they have to in order to fulfill that destiny. They will devour anything they put their sights on, and the tag team division had better be on notice, because no one is safe. Both men stalk off as Kanellis sends it back to Josh and Matt at the announcer's table, and we prepare for the next contest of the evening.
Tag Team Title Tournament
Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) vs. reDRagon (Bobby Fish & Kyle O'Reilly)
The second round of the tag team tournament is filled with possibility, and the crowd was eager to see this battle. The Machine Guns have more experienced, but both teams have been together for some time now and have many battles under their belt; successful ones, at that. The striking of Fish and O'Reilly was superior, and that's what they tried to push, as when it came to speed and technicality, Shelley and Sabin can barely be matched by any team alive. Both teams were exhausted by the end of this contest, however, and as Fish would fly to the outside and take down Sabin, O'Reilly would manage to capture the former World Junior champion, Shelley, in a Flying Armbar, the last of many he would lock on Shelley to wear him down. Shelley just couldn't fight any longer, as his will had been broken and nearly his arm as O'Reilly sunk in the hold and forced the Detroit native to tap. reDRagon now head to the finals and will be watching the Wolves versus the Kings of Wrestling eagerly to scout out their opponent as I'm sure both teams were scouting this contest.
Impact Wrestling Title Tournament
"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles vs. "The One Man Nation" Uhaa Nation
While Nation may be the most imposing force in this tournament, he is also somehow the underdog and knew it coming into this match with a man who's tried to stake a claim as the "Greatest of All Time". Styles had a vicious match with Chris Jericho last week, and Nation knew he was going to try to do much the same to him, and tried to keep Styles grounded. Nation would do an admirable job of keeping Styles down and pounding on him, using his considerable size and strength to try to break down the former World Heavyweight champion, but Styles would show his heart and skills, surging and putting on a catch wrestling clinic for all of the fans watching before landing some huge strikes that sent Nation reeling. Nation would try to protect himself, knowing he was in trouble, and in the end would try to tackle him, but Styles would lock on a Guillotine Choke. Nation would manage to break free and land some big punches, but Styles would eat the blows and counter, locking on a Triangle Choke! Nation would power through, lifting Styles and slamming him into the turnbuckles, but Styles would let go and begin blasting Nation with rapid elbows, followed by a Spinning Backfist, and then a Pele Kick to knock him loopy! Styles heads up top and gets a cheer from the crowd, coming off the buckles with his Spiral Tap, but Nation would shock everyone by kicking out! Styles would attempt to hit his Styles Clash, but Nation would reverse it, lifting himself up and planting a series of punches to Styles head before landing on his feet. Nation would deliver a Overhead Belly-to-Belly Suplex, then called for the end, trying to lift Styles for a Military Press, only to get caught with an elbow to the temple, followed by a leaping knee, and then a Discus Lariat! Styles once again lifts Nation into a Piledriver position, and we're all things he's going for a Styles Clash again, but this time he simply drops down, nailing the Hollow Point, a Ganso Bomb which drives Nation right on top of his head on the mat! Styles rolls Nation over and tries to end this, but AGAIN, Nation kicks out! Styles gets up, and with a murderous look, waits to Nation to get to a knee. From there, Styles spins, connecting with a brutal Sole Butt to Nation, snapping his neck to the side and he looks to be knocked out cold. Styles hooks the leg hard and it's all over! Styles advances to the finals!
Tag Team Title Tournament
The American Wolves (Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards) vs. The Kings of Wrestling (Cesaro & Chris Hero) w/ Lord William Regal
The Kings of Wrestling are beloved, despite their antics, but the fans are also quite fond of the Wolves. How can you not be? Both teams are just great, so seeing them do battle here was a treat. The offense of the Kings, as well as the defense, is just so unique that it makes the jobs of Matthews and Striker very hard, and they admit as much a couple of times throughout the match. The Wolves would show their smarts by trying to isolate Cesaro, who seemed to injure his arm last week in their match with the Young Bucks, and attempted to make him suffer by targeting it. The Kings wouldn't let that go on too long, though, and the Wolves had to adapt, as they always do. The Kings thought they had this one in the bag after hitting the Helicopter Crash on Edwards, but Richards would save the match with a Diving Double Stomp to Cesaro. Richards and Hero would have a massive strike exchange afterwards, which Richards would manage to counter a Rolling Elbow into a Uranage Suplex into a Kimura Lock, which lead Regal to get on the apron and try to interfere! Richards relinquishes his hold and goes to remove him from the equation. Cesaro tries to capitalize with a Running European Uppercut to the back of Richards, but Richards side steps and he upper cuts Regal instead, sending him tumbling from the apron! Richards sends Cesaro out of the ring and Edwards manages to catch Hero with a Superkick, followed by he and Richards delivering the Force of Nature to Hero, and it's all over! The American Wolves will go to "Final Resolution" to face long time rivals reDRagon in the finals of the tournament for the tag team titles!
Impact Wrestling Title Tournament
Seth Rollins vs. Sami Zayn
Zayn and Rollins have faced off before in three-way competition, with neither man gaining the win in that contest, while Zayn would be submitted by John Cena. Tonight, it was one-on-one, and there was nothing to hide behind and no one to blame. One man would be determined winner, while the other would be eliminated from the tournament. The fans were solidly behind Zayn, and they had to give him a lot of support, as Rollins was ruthless and brutal. Zayn would show his greatness in taking and absorbing punishment, showing his will to fight. Rollins looked absolutely defeated not by any offense Zayn landed, but simply his inability to end the Quebecois. Zayn would use this frustration against him, reversing a quick and hasty attempt at a Turnbuckle Powerbomb, turning it into a Sunset Flip roll-up for a near fall. Zayn quickly follows up, hitting a Brainbuster, but Rollins still kicks out. Zayn sends Rollins into the buckles and is really feeling it, the fans chanting his name, and comes crashing in with a Helluva Kick! Zayn rolls up Rollins again, this time with a Small Package, but Rollins manages to kick out again! Zayn, once again, sends Rollins into the buckles, and desperately rushes in once more, delivering the Helluva Kick, and this time wrenches Rollins' arm afterwards and climbs the buckles, springboarding and attempting to nail a Swinging DDT, but Rollins reverses it into a Northern Lights Suplex into the buckles! Rollins shakes off some cobwebs, but rather quickly recovers and then delivers a Turnbuckle Powerbomb to Zayn! Rollins, with his fists clinched, yells out and then points at Zayn, performing a throat slash as Zayn gets to all fours. Zayn tries to get to a knee, but Rollins rushes and plants him with a Blackout Stomp! Rollins pins, but Zayn kicks out at the very last moment! Rollins gets up, yelling profanities as the fans cheer, and Zayn gets to a knee, trying to hold up his fists, showing he still wants to fight, but Rollins blasts him with a Superkick as he still kneels! Rollins then grabs him by the hair and picks him up, cradling him and then driving him down to the mat with God's Last Gift! He has Zayn held in tight, and there's no chance of escape. Rollins is headed to the finals to face AJ Styles at "Final Resolution"!
Rollins celebrates after the match, but out to the ring runs AJ STYLES as the commentators and the crowd go crazy! Styles and Rollins exchange blows in the middle of the ring, having wonderfully fierce exchange of fists, kicks, and knees before the agents and officials rush from the back, breaking these two up, and it's clear Styles can barely contain himself, he wants to destroy Seth Rollins! Rollins looks absolutely infuriated as they pull them apart, and this is shaping up to be maybe the most explosive match of the year, as these two face off on live stream to see who will become the first ever Impact Wrestling champion! Be sure to tune in live next week to see the exciting conclusion!
