NWA Maximum 20/03/2015
We open the show with Randy Orton, the new TV Champion, making his way to the ring to watch our opening contest on commentary, a match involving James Storm who challenged him for his belt last week.
James Storm vs Shelton Benjamin
Storm's debut match gave him a chance to showcase the skills that he feels make him a top challenger for the TV Title of Randy Orton. Benjamin on the other hand has been on a losing run, and wants to get back into contention for titles so gave Storm a real match, as the two fought back and forth on the mat and put on quite a clinic. But with Storm the man on a mission and Benjamin perhaps a little lacking in ideas right now, Storm would end up coming out on top, as he hat the Last Call and pinned Benjamin for the 3 count.
Winner- James Storm
Storm celebrates his win, but before he can celebrate too much Shelton Benjamin grabs a chair and starts assaulting Storm with it. Randy Orton has seen enough and charges into the ring, taking Benjamin down with a Clothesline and Powerslam, pounding on the canvas as he begs Benjamin to get up. RKO ON THE CHAIR! Benjamin is out as Orton helps Storm to his feet and raises his hand before leaving, with Storm celebrating some more. There is clearly mutual respect between these two but when will we see them fight for the TV Title?
"The Most Hybrid Athlete in NWA History" Kyle Matthews comes out to a huge ovation, as he has a match versus Bad News Barrett. But Barrett rises up on his podium.
Barrett: "Kyle Matthews, you say that you want to rise back to the top of the NWA, that you want to be an NWA Champion once again. Well I've got some BAD NEWS for you: when I defeat you tonight, you'll be on your way back to obscurity where you belong, while my rise to the top will be good news for the NWA."
"The Most Hybrid Athlete in NWA History" Kyle Matthews vs Bad News Barrett
A good, even match between these two, as Matthews showcased all of his tremendous mat skills and managed to outwrestle Barrett, while Barrett used his size advantage and his fists to keep up. But this match would take a surprising twist. Matthews would nail a Slurpee Kick, and would call for the Hidaka Lock, but Paul London ran out to the ring. London climbed to the top as Matthews had the Hidaka Lock on Barrett, AND HITS MATTHEWS WITH THE LONDONS CALLING! Matthews is down as Barrett recovers, picking him up. He nails the Wasteland, and goes for the cover, 1-2-3! What a win for Barrett, but it was all thanks to London.
Winner- Bad News Barrett
London leaves with a smile on his face, the damage done, but why would he attack Matthews, a man who he teamed with in The Prophecy. And what will Matthews reaction to this be? If we know anything about Matthews its that he is a man of action and I have no doubts he will try to get revenge on London as soon as he can.
Its time for a grudge singles match as Shane Helms does battle with Personal Demons. Demons is accompanied by The Reject, but as he gets into the ring CHRIS JERICHO CHARGES OUT! He grabs The Reject and starts brawling with him ,as the two fight all the way backstage. The distraction allows Helms to get an early advantage on Demons as our match gets underway.
Shane Helms vs Personal Demons
Helms is full of fire early on, as he wants some revenge for the attacks that Personal Demons has led on him over the past few weeks. Demons however was practically emotionless, he shrugged off almost everything Helms did and picked his spots, getting Helms down on the canvas and working away on him with utterly ruthless efficiency. Hardy would grab what is becoming his signature weapon, a steel chair, and would smash Helms with it a good 10 or so times, each chairshot harder than the last and busting Helms open in the process, then got out a ladder. He climbed the ladder and wanted a Swanton Bomb, but Helms mustered the strength to shove the ladder over, causing Hardy to land neck first on the ropes. Helms mounted a fightback, hitting a few chairshots of his own and slamming Hardy onto the ladder. Helms threw the chair at a grounded Hardy, who caught it, ONLY TO TAKE A CHAIR ASSISTED SHINING WIZARD! Helms covers- 1-2-NO! Helms calls for the Vertebreaker on the chair, this could end Personal Demons for good! But before he can hit it Hardy nails a low blow. TWIST OF FATE ON THE CHAIR! Demons drags Helms over to the collapsed ladder and places him on it. SWANTON BOMB! 1-2-3, Personal Demons has overcome the challenge of Shane Helms!
Winner- Personal Demons
Demons isn't done, he grabs the chair again and is ready to hit Helms with it a bunch more times. But instead he stops, looks at the grounded Helms and laughs, throwing the chair down and leaving. What stopped him from dishing out more punishment to Helms? Was it actual compassion, more proof of his insanity or is there something more to this that meets the eye? I guess we will find out soon enough, but on the night Personal Demons won this outright.
Making his way out to the ring now is Bray Wyatt, a man who missed out on a place in the final of the NWA Maximum TV Title Tournament last week. He has something to say and seems in a cheerful mood.
Wyatt: "So sometimes to try and get what you want, you've gotta hurt the ones you love. If there was one thing I wanted in the world, it was to be the NWA Maximum TV Champion, and to do that I had to fight a former brother in arms, a man named Johnny Gargano, and things got intense man. So intense that Ted Dibiase stole that match and that chance from me. But Johnny, I wanna invite you out here now to apologise. Johnny, please come down here man."
Johnny Gargano heads down to the ring, and tentatively accepts a handshake from Wyatt, with doubts clearly in his mind about his "friend".
Wyatt: "I'm glad you came out here Johnny, because like I said I want to apologise. I want to say I'm sorry that that I didn't beat you to a pulp in that ring last week, because I should have. Johnny, we may have been allies once, but we were never family. You're a man who believes that he has a divine right to lead others, you think you can take those that are less than yourself and make them do your bidding. It doesn't matter what the name is: Newgen, Revolution, Group, all the time you think you have control. But you never controlled me man, I follow nobody, only a cause. We had a cause in The Group, we had to take down an evil even greater than my own. But now that their evil is gone, I have a whole new cause, and that is to wipe your evil from my home. And soon you'll be going the way of the buzzards!"
Gargano has something of his own to say.
Gargano: "Let me make one thing perfectly clear to you Bray. I never liked you. I never wanted you as part of The Group in the first place. The only reason you were even considered was because of Christopher Daniels, he said we could use a psychopath to fight a group of mad men. Because that's all you are Bray, a psychopath who tries to justify his actions with philosophy. Well you're not fooling anybody, and I will have no problem beating you in this ring!"
Wyatt and Gargano have a staredown, but before a fight can breakout, Wyatt simply leaves the ring and heads backstage. Gargano isn't sure what to make of this, but I guess Wyatt is just trying to get into his head. Either way I can't wait to see a match between these two.
NWA Maximum Tag Team Title Match
Los Maximos (Joel and Jose Maximo) vs EGO (Damien Sandow and Bobby Roode)
Los Maximos have had an eventful run as champions so far, but against EGO they had a different kind of challenge, a challenge from a team who are not only completely full of themselves, but have the skills and ring smarts to back up their claims. Los Maximos may have controlled things early with their quick double team moves and high risk offence, but EGO pulled things back by isolating Joel and working him over with just about every trick in the book. Finally Joel would break free and tag Jose, who cleaned house, and Los Maximos got Sandow up top to hit him with the Spanish Fly. But before they could, Cody Rhodes (complete with new moustache) ran out, low blowing both Maximos, causing them to fall off the turnbuckle. Rhodes hit Joel with the Cross Rhodes as Sandow dropped Jose with the Terminus. Roode came in and put Joel in the Crossface, he taps and we have new champions, albeit in very controversial circumstances!
Winners- EGO
But before they can celebrate, "The Commissioner of Asskicking" Steve Blackman is out.
Blackman: "Whoa, if you think I'm letting an injustice like this slide in my promotion, you've got another thing coming. The result of this title match is invalid, and Los Maximos are STILL Tag Team Champions".
EGO Look furious as their plan has been ruined, and I'm relieved that Los Maximos have not been screwed out of their hard earned belts.
Blackman: "Not only that, but I'm giving Los Maximos the chance to get some revenge right now. I have a guy here hungry for action who wants to make this a six man tag team match, his name is Karl Anderson and he's going to help Los Maximos kick your asses!"
Karl Anderson rushes out to a big ovation, we all know how much he loves a good fight, and EGO look like they don't know what they've gotten themselves into.
Six Man Tag Team Match
Los Maximos (Joel and Jose Maximo) and Karl Anderson vs EGO (Damien Sandow, Bobby Roode and Cody Rhodes)
This one didn't go all that long, as it was largely just a chaotic back and forth brawl, with Los Maximos and Anderson pretty much dominating save for a few shots here or there from EGO. It was effectively a match of vengeance for Los Maximos, who almost got screwed out of their belts, and indeed a message to others not to pull this sort of stuff in NWA Maximum. Anderson took Roode out of the match early on with a vicious shot with the ring bell, then put Rhodes through a table with a Gun Stun! Sandow would get put up top again by Los Maximos, and this time there was no escape from the Spanish Fly. They cover Sandow and get the 3 count!
Winners- Los Maximos and Karl Anderson
Anderson and Los Maximos celebrate with their belts, and the fans love it, as EGO now have to lick their wounds and regroup. Cody Rhodes joining their group is definitely a big plus, and I think they do have unfinished business with the champs, but they will have to learn not to cross the boss!
NWA Maximum Heavyweight Title Match
"The Man Beast" Rhino vs Ted Dibiase
Ted Dibiase has been given this title shot after his impressive showing in the TV Title Tournament last, and it is a big opportunity, getting the first shot at Rhino since his surprise title win a few weeks ago. Dibiase provided an interesting challenge for Rhino, as he looked to ground the champ and wear him down, in turn taking the fight out of him and stopping those intense bursts of aggression that he is famous for. This did work to some extent, as Dibiase concentrated on the shoulder to set up for the Million Dollar Dream or Dream Street, but it only worked for so long before Rhino got a rush of blood and a second win. He fought back, taking Dibiase down with some Clotheslines followed by a Belly to Belly, then calls or the move we all want to see. GORE! 1-2-3, Rhino retains his title and in impressive fashion, albeit Dibiase put up a good fight.
Winner- Rhino
Chris Jericho vs The Reject
Jericho has a score to settle with The Reject following his defeat to him in a tag match 2 weeks ago. But this match has even more meaning for Jericho, as he needs to win this to get his match versus Personal Demons, a match where his very career is at risk. Speaking of personal Demons, he was nowhere to be seen, clearly wanting to test Jericho's mettle as well as see how The Reject can handle one of his fiercest rivals. The Reject has just as ruthless a streak as his partner in crime, he took a lot of risks, but all of these risk felt even more dangerous than ever, as if he would die to ensure Jericho can't take on Personal Demons. But Jericho is an experienced veteran of the sport and had an answer for everything The Reject could throw at him, eventually managing to hit the Code Breaker, then locked him in the Walls of Jericho to make him tap out, and thus earning his match versus Personal Demons, a match which could be his last!
Winner- Chris Jericho
Now its time for our final segment of the evening, a contract signing between Brock Lesnar and "Big Bad" Brodus Clay. "The Commissioner of Asskicking" Steve Blackman is also here to ensure that order is maintained, I think we don't have that to worry about with him out here. Clay is out first, and is soon followed by Lesnar. The two stare each other down as Blackman explains the situation
Blackman: "Now gentlemen, if there's one thing I love its a grudge match between two monsters, two men who utterly hate each other and want to beat the crap out of one another. I now ask both of you to put your name to this contract and make it official".
Lesnar and Clay ignore Blackman, continuing the staredown, so Blackman simply put himself between Lesnar Clay and shoves them apart.
Blackman: "Sign the contract!"
Lesnar gives Blackman a glare that would scare most ordinary men, but as we all know Blackman is no ordinary man, so he keeps on pointing to the contract. Lesnar gives and puts his signature on it, then Clay does the same.
Blackman: "Thank you both for your cooperation. This is going to be a great series of matches."
Lesnar, looking confused, takes the microphone.
Lesnar: "Whoa, whoa, whoa, what do you mean by series of matches? I was told one match".
Blackman: "Well if you don't think your up to the task Brock then I can fire you right now, and that fee of yours can go to an orphanage or somewhere else that needs it more."
Lesnar looks flustered but undeterred.
Lesnar: "That's not what I'm saying and you know it Blackman. I'm saying i only need 1 match to kick this guy's ass so bad he won't walk again."
Clay: "What'd you say to me punk?"
Clay and Lesnar charge at each other and start brawling, but Blackman interjects again, separating the two and cooler heads prevail.
Blackman: "Now I know tensions are high, but save this for the series of matches gentlemen. You see I don't think that one simple match can decide which of you is the better man, your too evenly matched and you both monsters in your own right. So I've devised a three match series to determine which of you is superior. The first match will be a regular NWA Maximum rules match, meaning no rules and freedom to beat each other senseless. The second match will be a Hell in a Cell match, giving you the additional platform of a cell to beat each other with or even throw each other off of. And the final match will be a Last Man Standing match, where you will fight until one man remains standing tall. Good luck and may the best man win!"
Blackman signifies for the two men to exchange a handshake. They approach each other with tensions high, and exchange a very reluctant handshake. BUT LESNAR GRABS CLAY, F5! Lesnar leaves as Blackman shakes his head at the poor sportsmanship, and helps Clay back to his feet as the show comes to an end.
We open the show with Randy Orton, the new TV Champion, making his way to the ring to watch our opening contest on commentary, a match involving James Storm who challenged him for his belt last week.
