Rob Conway & Nick Dinsmore defeat Jeremiah Plunkett & Jax Dane @ 8:52 when Conway pinned Plunkett after a mistake by the East. As with most East matches, Chase Owens was out pushing the wheelchair ridden mystery man. The 2 teams went at it with specific attention being paid to Conway vs Dane as they are set to battle at Best In The World, former tag team partners outside OVW on the indies outside the NWA, and also Dinsmore vs Plunkett with both entered into Survival of The Fittest next weekend. The East managed to isolate Dinsmore and work over his knee, but failed interference by Plunkett served to only distract the referee and allow Conway to successfully interfere and hit Dane to take him down. Both waited for hot tags with Plunkett getting there, but unable to prevent Dinsmore from tagging out to the Ironman. He entered and cleaned house, but Plunkett managed to get a thum to the eye. The mystery man started directing traffic as he would summon the referee. Owens was directed into the ring where Plunkett held Conway in place for the Roaring Elbow, but as Owens spun, Conway ducked and Owens took out Plunkett instead. Conway then threw Owens out over the top rope and made the cover for the 3 and the victory.
After the match, The East were pretty unhappy with this, Plunkett calling out Owens as dissention in the group began to come out. Plunkett blamed Owens, although on commentary they defended Owens as Plunkett should have never called for the illegal interference in the first place. Before anything could happen though, Ricky Morton emerged and got into the ring. He got in Owens' face and told him to smarten up and stop wasting his time with these jerks. Plunkett wanted to know who Morton was calling a jerk and then shoved him. Morton responded with a right hand as Conway & Dinsmore got back into the ring. The 3 clear The East, but come next weekend, they won't have the luxury of problems because it won't be as a group with any miscommunications.

Special Referee:
Match #2
This is without a doubt, the biggest match ever to take place in the Davis Arena. While both commentators feel that the match next week is of far greater importance with Jamin Olivencia vs CM Punk for the Heavyweight Title, never before have 2 bigger stars faced off with each other in this ring. This is a match that headlined not 1, but 2 national PPVs last year. A match that fans the world over would step over their own mothers to see, and they are bringing it to the fans here in Louisville, Kentucky and Ohio Valley Wrestling, a thank you for the support. Cornette says that tickets for tonight's card he understands were going on the black market for hundreds over the standard price, although most fans lucky enough to get a ticket are not passing this up. These 2 will get 60 minutes. WBNA-TV has given OVW the word that should it be required, they will do an overrun and go long given that there is about 45 minutes left.
The match came about here as Danny Davis looked to serve up added punishment to CM Punk for his actions in vacating the OVW Women's championship. While he has, and will get a Heavyweight Title shot himself at Best In The World, he is on a 1 man crusade to ruin the company and render the championship meaningless, revenge against promoters for allowing Christopher Daniels to vacate the NWA World Title without facing him, in his own mind making that title meaningless because Daniels never fought his best competition before retiring. He started in OVW and has vowed to carry on elsewhere once having acheived his goal here. For Samoa Joe, brought in by Davis as he is the 1 man that has had Punk's number in the past above any other wrestler, this is a chance to pick up a major win as he looks to regain the NWA World Title he lost at Starrcade to AJ Styles and show that he is not to be forgotten. All while the man whose actions brought about this attitude change in Punk, Christopher Daniels, serves as special referee. A move ordered by Davis as the cherry on top.
After all participants are introduced, Daniels calls them to the center of the ring. He goes over some basic rules before they head back to opposite corners, not without some snarky comments from Punk towards Daniels that he tries to ignore. And with that, he calls for the bell, the match is underway! The 2 circle before Joe approaches for a lockup, but Punk instead exits to the floor. He shakes his head as fans boo him, only to tell them this match starts when he decides it starts. Daniels starts a count which causes Punk to stand firm, asking up if he's going to count him out 30 seconds into the match? Daniels just continues doing his job before Joe steps in and forcefully lowers the hand of Daniels, telling him not to waste his time with that. This draws the ire of Daniels as the 2 begin an argument as Punk stands on the floor laughing. The commentators wonder if this is exactly what Punk is trying to do.
As they argue, Joe turns his back to Punk and gives him the opportunity to run in from behind. Joe senses it and sidesteps to send Punk into the ropes from his own momentum, coming back into a powerslam. Joe stands and the action is underway. Punk sits up and gets met with a kick to the chest. Joe repeats before hitting the ropes and dropping down with a low dropkick. As they get up, Joe goes in behind to lock in for a German suplex. Punk however manages to reverse and get behind him instead. Joe delivers a back elbow. Turning back to Punk, Joe chops the chest. Another, another, another. Punk is in the corner and takes a forearm smash to the face. Joe Irish whips Punk across and charges in, but Punk leaps over the top rope. Joe hits the turnbuckle and then eats a kick to the face by Punk. With Joe momentarily dazed, Punk waits, springboarding up to the top rope, and jumping into Joe with a clothesline. Daniels starts a count as Punk stands up and gets in his face telling him to keep going. Daniels is stone faced, ignoring the taunt and just going about his job. First break as the match will continue.
-- Second commercial break --
Back from break and Punk is working over the arm of Joe. He drapes it over the top rope, pulling it back under as Daniels gives a 5 count to break. Punk takes the arm and twists it, wrenching it down into a wristlock. Joe tries to reverse it, eventually tumbling over and rolling through, standing into a reversal. He now has Punk's arm twisted. Punk reels a bit before trying a similar move, but as he steps over, Joe just ends up flipping Punk down to the mat. He reaches for the ropes and yells for Daniels to give a 5 count to break. Joe breaks as Punk rolls back outside once again, maybe not as cocky this time as the first. He argues with some fans before turning to Joe charging at him, coming through the ropes with a suicide dive. Punk goes down as Joe stands back up. Joe goes over and sets up a chair next to the guard rail. Punk gets up and takes some chops from Joe as he guides him to the chair. Punk gets seated as Joe backs up and charges with the running big boot to the face. Fans cheer as Joe gets up, psyched. The count gets higher, but Joe rolls Punk back into the ring and follows to break it before the 10.
As Punk gets up, Joe locks him into a half nelson suplex, driving him into the mat. Joe covers but only manages a 2. Joe brings Punk up, snapmares him over and locks in a headlock. Punk fights, gets up and brings Joe to the ropes. Still applied, Punk tries to shove Joe off, but the grip is too tight. Punk gets in some shots, still nothing. Finally he lifts Joe up from behind into a belly to back suplex that does the trick. Joe hits hard as Punk shakes off any damage. As they stand up, Punk kicks Joe in the gut. He brings up his head and gives a stuff right to the jaw. Punk lands another as Joe gets backed to the corner. Punk steps in and gives several muay thai kicks to the midsection. Punk backs up and as Joe lifts his head, charges in, stepping up into a high knee. He quickly locks Joe into a bulldog and runs him out to drive him into the mat. Punk covers, but like Joe earlier, only manages to get a 2 count. Unlike Joe though, Punk blames Daniels being slow as the reason. Doing his job and trying to stay neutral, Daniels ignores Punk's verbal jabs.
Joe gets up, but takes a Mongolian chop to both sides of the head, before taking a hangman's neckbreaker. Punk steps out to the apron and then slingshots back into the ring, hitting a somersault senton. Punk covers, but again only manages to draw a 2 before Joe kicks out. Punk brings Joe up and backs him to the corner, dribing a shoulder in. He then goes for the Irish whip, but Joe stops short to reverse it. Holding on, he pulls Punk back in by the arm and drops him with a hard clothesline. Joe will have none of it as he brings Punk back up, chopping several times before lifting him up into a fireman's carry. Punk elbows his way free and drops behind Joe. As Joe turns, Punk tries to lift him into the fireman's carry, but Joe doesn't budge. Punk tries again, but still nothing. Joe finally drives an elbow to the back. Punk feels it as he heads to the corner. As he turns, Joe comes in kicking away to eventually drop Punk to a seated position. Joe then takes the bottom of his boot and rubs it in with a facewash. Joe backs up and charges in with a knee to the face. He backs up and charges in again with a knee to the face. He backs up again and charges in, this time with a low dropkick to the face. Punk is dazed as Joe grabs him and pulls him up. Joe turns away from Punk and then comes back with an enzuigiri. Punk drops to 1 knee as he falls to the mat.
From there Joe sets up Punk and lifts him up, driving him to the mat with a folding powerbomb. Joe quickly transitions from there into the STF. Punk fights tapping as he reaches for the ropes. They might as well be miles away if only a couple feet, makes no difference as Joe has it applied. Daniels drops down to check but Punk will not tap. The commentators mention that the humiliation of having to tap to Daniels may be enough to keep Punk from doing so but he may pass out regardless. Punk finally starts a crawl, eventually reaching the ropes. Daniels gives Joe 5 as he breaks just after 4. Daniels warns him as Joe gets up and gets in his face. Punk saves himself but it's not looking good as a second break is taken during this match.
-- Third commercial break --
Back from break and Joe is still in control of the action with Punk crawling away. Finally Joe grabs him and lifts him up into an inverted atomic drop. Joe follows that with a running single leg dropkick to floor him. Joe follows that with a running senton and covers, getting a 2 count before Punk gets the shoulder up. Punk goes out to the apron but Joe reaches over and grabs him. Punk acts quick, dropping down to hang Joe up on the top rope and drop him back. Punk quickly recovers and heads up to the top rope. Joe is down as Punk stands, raising both arms up. In tribute, Punk flies from the top rope with a Macho Man Randy Savage elbow drop. Punk covers ...

Joe just gets a shoulder up before the 3 by Daniels. Punk is insistent it was a 3 though and gets in Daniels' face, even pushing him. Daniels could DQ Punk for that, but he lets it go as he wants a winner here as much as anybody else. Punk turns back to Joe and as he gets up, kicks him. Punk locks in a double underhook, driving Joe to the mat with the facebuster. Known elsewhere as the pedigree, Cornette says Punk generally likes to hit from the top rope, perhaps to 1 up somebody else. Punk rolls Joe over but doesn't bother with a cover. Instead he gets up and brings Joe up, bringing him to the corner. Punk lifts Joe up, but rather than the GTS, he places him seated on the top ropes in the corner. Punk gets up to the middle rope, shouts "Best In The World", steps up to the top and hits a super frankensteiner that drops Joe to his back. Punk heads over and covers again ...

Joe again barely kicks out. The momentum is now firmly favoring Punk as he has come close to finishing Joe twice now. Punk then stretches out the arm and stomps it. He repeats as he turns his focus back to the arm. This could be a setup for the anaconda vise, but instead with Joe face down, Punk steps in, drops back and applies the Koji clutch. Joe reaches for the ropes as Punk wrenches back on the neck, bridged up. Punk releases before anything though and pulls Joe back to the middle of the ring, looking for the anaconda vise. Punk is seated, trying to lock it in as Joe brings a knee up to the back of Punk's head. A couple of those avoids the hold. Punk gets up at the ropes and charges at Joe, but he sweeps out the legs. Punk drops back first and gets up, but steps up into Joe lifting him up into the fireman's carry and driving Punk into the mat with the Death Valley driver. Joe covers ...

Punk kicks out, but that move was a game changer as Joe is back in it. Punk gets up and chops Joe. The former World champion's response is a hard chop back. Punk responds with a second, leading Joe to answer with a second. The 2 trade chops before Joe starts getting the better. Again and again and again. In the corner Joe goes to send Punk to the corner but Punk reverses it. Joe hits hard as Punk charges in, but Joe steps out and grabs the oncoming Punk into a side slam. Punk is downed as Joe lifts him up. German suplex! Joe keeps the waist locked as he turns them and stands, going to a full nelson. Dragon suplex! Joe keeps the hands locked as he turns them and stands, taking the arms into a cross and bringing Punk with a bridging X-plex. Daniels drops down ...

... NO!
Punk manages to kick out. Joe stands as Punk gets up by the ropes and waits. Punk stands and Joe comes in for the kill, going for the Coquina Clutch. Punk holds the ropes though as Joe tries to bring him back to the center of the ring. Punk fights and instead of going back, rolls forward and both wrestlers stumble through the middle rope and out to the floor. Both wrestlers are down as Daniels starts another count. Will this match end in a double countout?!? Punk is up first and rolls in and back out at 8 to reset the count. Joe gets up and Punk shoves him shoulder first into the ring post. He then grabs the arm and slides into the ring, back out to the floor. He then pulls Joe shoulder first into the post before slamming the arm into the metal post. Joe grabs the arm as Punk slides back in and plays the waiting game. The commentators say this is a good time for a break. In the unlikely event that the action ends during the commercial, the finish will be shown when they return.
-- Fourth commercial break --
Back from break and the wrestlers are back in the ring with Punk still working the arm. At that point, he extends the arm, steps across and jumps up to crash his weight down to the back of the elbow. Joe clutches the arm as Punk brings it to the ropes and again, uses the top rope as a fulcrum to put pressure on the arm, trying to rip it out of its socket. Punk breaks on the 5 and with Joe leaning on the ropes, catches him with a roundhouse kick. Joe steps forward into Punk's waiting arms. He lifts him up for the GTS, but Joe manages to instead fall back. Clutching his bad arm, Joe fires punches away. He then pulls Punk in and lifts him up for the muscle buster! Punk however fights and instead shifts his weight to drop down as Joe crashes down on his back. Punk acts fast and the anaconda vise is applied. Wrenching on the bad arm, Punk looks for the tap out as Joe has the arm up, fighting to avoid bringing it down. He lowers it a bit before bringing it up. The audience is being teased here as Joe is close to tapping while Punk has the hold firmly locked in. Joe quickly however rolls Punk over him and onto his back ...

... NO!
Punk releases the hold and escapes the near fall, but Joe is down still. Punk stands and kicks him. He tells Daniels to watch this. Joe gets to a knee as Punk locks in another double underhook. This time however he goes to lift Joe up. He's going for the Angel's Wings! What humiliation to make Daniels count 3 on his own move done by Punk. Joe however resists. Instead he reverses it, lifting Punk up and onto his shoulder. Joe has it locked in. He takes a few steps and drives Punk into the mat with the muscle buster! Punk is down, but Joe cannot capitalize. Both are down. All Joe has to do is get over and cover Punk. He clutches the bad arm, crawling over. He gets on top, hooking the leg ...

... 3!
NO! Punk gets the shoulder up. Barely. Had Joe capitalized immediately, the match would be finished, but Punk survives for now. Joe crawls to the ropes and gets up with Punk not moving. Joe gets to 1 knee as finally Punk begins stirring. He gets up and Joe comes from behind, locking in the Coquina clutch! This move beat Punk at not only Spring Stampede, but the Great American Bash. Punk reaches for the ropes and the commentators make mention that Joe's arm strength could play a role in the effectiveness of this hold. Punk shows his MMA training here as Joe drops back, but Punk locks the arm under his own arm and uses his free hands to hold back the other arm from coming across. Punk wiggles and slides his shoulders to the mat before Joe moves up. He frees his arm and gets it to the neck but Punk still pushes the other away. Joe hammers a couple forearm shots to try and get Punk to release. Daniels is watching closely as Punk wiggles again, this time getting to the ropes. Joe breaks. Punk gets up and Joe goes in again for the kill, bringing the arms up, but Punk ducks down and in, instead lifting Joe up into the fireman's carry! Joe however drops behind and shoves Punk from behind, but does so directly into Daniels!
The referee goes down as Punk falls back into the Coquina clutch! Joe locks it in and drops back. Punk's MMA training kicks in as he immediately begins to tap, but no referee. Joe releases the hold and shoves Punk off. He notices Daniels down and goes over to check on him. Daniels is dazed as he gets to both knees, still trying to collect his thoughts and whereabouts. Joe turns back to Punk, but ends up getting a low blow kick directly between the legs. Joe drops to his knees as Punk falls back to the ropes. Keeping himself up, Punk just smiles as the fans boo. He steps off and grabs Joe, picking him up and lifting up onto his shoulders. He drops Joe onto the knee, Go to Sleep! Joe is out as Punk covers, but so too is Daniels. Punk shouts for him to count. Finally Daniels gets there ...

NO! Joe just barely gets the shoulder up. Punk can't believe it. So close to avenging his demons, and Cornette on commentary wonders what it would mean to Punk's morale if he heads into Best In The World with a third loss to Samoa Joe. Simply put, Punk cannot defeat the man. Punk gets up and brings Joe up, lifting him up again, but Joe starts landing elbows to the head. Punk struggles to keep him up, eventually dropping Joe to a seated position on the top turnbuckle. Punk steps away and turns back to Joe where he gets a kick to the face. Punk steps in again and takes another kick to the face. Joe goes to stand up on the top rope as Punk grabs onto Daniels seemingly unaware of his location and pushes Daniels into the top rope, causing Joe to fall and crotch himself. Punk looks up and sees Joe there as Daniels seems to momentarily consider a DQ again, but decide against it. The commentators defending the call as Punk had no idea where he was and it seemed accidental because he wasn't even looking at Daniels. Punk lifts Joe up and brings him out, again dropping him to his knee. A second GTS! Punk covers as a reluctant Daniels drops to the mat ...

... Daniels hesitates
... 3!
Punk wins! Daniels registers the 3 as Punk finally defeats Samoa Joe. The time of the match is 36:24 including commercials and perhaps the greatest match in the history of OVW TV goes down in the books here. Daniels as referee seems disgusted in himself for having had to count that 3, knowing how Punk won. With the music playing, Punk gets to his feet finally. He leans on the ropes before motioning for the referee to raise his arm in victory. Daniels shakes his head, but Punk tells him to do his job. He taunts Daniels asking if he's going to walk out on this too? Finally Daniels steps in, raises the arm and immediately exits the ring pissed off. He can't believe he had to do that as he heads away from the ring. Punk meanwhile avenges the losses to Samoa Joe, and will head into Best In The World seemingly on top of the world. Jamin Olivencia, Heavyweight champion of Ohio Valley, better watch this match. Study this match according to the commentators. Olivencia has to be better than Samoa Joe, has to know the mistakes of Samoa Joe, or else ...
Cornette adds that Punk still has to return that OVW Women's championship belt by the end of this broadcast. The match was long, but not too long. They have some time left, he's got a stand by match prepared for after the break. Punk will get some time to recover from this massacre, and after that next match, he'd had better return the title belt or face consequences that could jeopardize the Best In The World match or even force legal action onto Punk. That plus a huge announcement concerning the big April 15 live edition of TV when the show moves to Wednesday nights.
-- Fifth commercial break --
Back from break and it is time to go over the lineup for the Best In The World iPPV as Jim Cornette is finally back out. First though, a reminder as on April 15, OVW TV moves to Wednesday nights on ION affiliate WBNA-TV with a live 2 hour special from the Davis Arena, kicking off at 8pm, and they can announce now for the first time that on that night, NWA North American champion John Cena returns! 14 years ago he walked in as The Prototype, and after conquering the world, he returns to where it all started. That should be big. Now as for Best In The World, it comes your way next Sunday night, April 12. Davis Arena is sold out, the only way to watch is heading over to the website or the partnership with WWNlive.com and ordering the event as it airs live at 8pm central, 7pm eastern. It will be available on replay on demand beginning the next day as well.
- Heidi Lovelace to challenge NWA World Women's champion AJ Lee
- Survival of The Fittest. 12 men, 2 nights. 6 matches on next weekend's TV, winners advance to a 6 man elimination match on Sunday. Participants so far are Elijah Burke, Jeremiah Plunkett, Nick Dinsmore, Ryan Howe, Aaron Sky, Rudy Switchblade, Melvin Maximus, Marcus Anthony, Shiloh Jonze, Cliff Compton, and Colt Cabana. 1 spot remaining.
- Michael Hayes vs TV champion Eric Locker in a Submission match
- Ricky Morton vs Chase Owens, teacher vs student
- Rob Conway vs Jax Dane
- Trailer Park Trash vs Dylan Bostic in a Hardcore match
- Eddie Diamond gets 1 night with "La Puta" Shelly Martinez
- Paredyse vs Chris Silvio in a Dog Collar match
- Jamin Olivencia defends the Heavyweight Title against CM Punk
And speaking of Punk, he was ordered to return that OVW Women's championship belt tonight. Failure to return it and he risks legal action that might finally put an end to his title shot that he won back at Retribution. By the clock, he only has about 10 more minutes and from the looks of earlier, he had better get new representation because Christian Mascagni won't be practicing law again any time soon after what happened last weekend. Punk wants to play hardball, go ahead.
Standby match
Match #3VS |
Rump Thump vs Chris Silvio never started. Before the match could begin, Mary Jane distracted Rump Thump, allowing for Silvio to surprise him with the Psychodelic Superpunch and essentially knock him out. Silvio called for the bell to start the match but the referee refused as Rump Thump was already out of it. Mary Jane then lifted the apron and pulled out a dog collar, handing it over to Silvio. The Psychodelic Superstar put the collar on Rump Thump and started kicking him repeatedly. Then just to really show he has lost it, he picks Thump up and readies to send him over the top rope and to the floor, grabbing the other end of the double sided dog collar. Out runs Paredyse just in time, sliding in under the bottom rope. Silvio lets go of Rump Thump before he can hang him and manages to exit the ring before Paredyse can get to him. Not yet, not now. Silvio just points back to Paredyse and says he will have his day at Best In The World when he will make him pay for what he did last month at the Saturday Night Special. This could be a bloody affair given the intensity of the grudge that has been built up between these 1 time tag team partners all those years ago.
Jim Cornette says that there is still a few more minutes here. No time for another standby match, if you can even call what we just saw a match, but maybe time to go over the lineup agains for Best In The World, not to mention a reminder to tune in next weekend on OVW TV for the first round of Survival of The Fittest. 12 men, 6 matches, the winners move on to the iPPV and 6 man elimination match. Last man standing wins. Should be a hell of a match ...
... hold on
... "Cult of Personality" starts again
Jim Cornette: Just hurry up, we're running out of time here.
CM Punk: I said I would be back out here, and I said I would bring the Women's championship with me. It's such a shame too as I had really grown attached to the thing. I mean I've had titles, 3 time World champion, but I mean, really, is there anything quite like holding the OVW Women's championship when you're a man? Pretty rare accomplishment. So yeah, I'd say I'm kind of proud by what I did. But I keep my word, so here it is.
Punk pulls up the Women's championship and holds it up before placing it on the table. Cornette stands and looks down at it, nodding as if to verify it is in fact the championship belt.
CM Punk: So you know, do what you want with it. Have a match, have a tournament, have a lingerie pillow fight. But hold on. I only said I'd return it. Where's Danny Davis?
Jim Cornette: He's in the back, I'm sure he's the last person you would want-
CM Punk: Then you'll do.
And with that, Punk grabs Cornette and shoves him into Dean Hill to knock Dean over and to the floor. He then holds Cornette and directions him towards the table as AJ produces a hammer. Punk forces Cornette to watch as she starts smashing the OVW Women's championship belt to pieces as it lay on the desk. She screams as she repeatedly brings down the hammer in the most sadistic way possible. Cornette can't believe this! Nothing will stop her as finally some talent arrives. Paredyse is back out from moments earlier, as is Elvis Pridemoore and Ram Jam Jon Ramser. Punk pushes Cornette into Paredyse so that he has to catch him, picks up a chair, and as Elvis approaches, just smashes him with a chair shot. Ramser gets hit in the midsection and brought down across the back with it. All the while AJ just keeps going, at this point, just overkill to the completely desecrated and destroyed title belt.
By this point, several more are out. Danny Davis manages to reach across the desk and grab the championship belt away. Punk alerts AJ to leave as she heads to the side door exit with the hammer, ready to use as a weapon if necessary. Punk is walking backward, ready to hit anybody with the chair if they get close enough. As final parting words, he takes the mic, still in hand.
CM Punk: Come Best In The World, I do that again for the crap you pulled on me tonight with Samoa Joe and Daniels, only next time it's to the OVW Heavyweight championship belt and it's to 18 years of history. At Best In The World, OVW dies!
The 2 exit the door and escape as the scene shifts to a car crash scene. Several are helping up Dean Hill and tending to him, Cornette assures he is alright. Danny Davis meanwhile stands with a completely destroyed OVW Women's championship belt in his hands, pieces hanging off, some even falling. He holds it up before just dropping it. The look on his face would be of anger, but is more of hopelessness as the deed here is done. Jamin Olivencia next to him is looking to have reached a boiling point with this situation. A week before Best In The World and CM Punk has once again topped himself as he always seems to, likely leaving little doubt among the wrestlers and fans that he will find a way to do the same yet again at the iPPV on April 12. The Davis Arena is in silence, left speechless as the show goes off the air with a fading shot of the destroyed championship belt.
