Survival of The Fittest Qualifier
Match #1VS |
Elijah Burke defeats Shiloh Jonze @ 6:29 via pinfall after The Elijah Experience, a sit out facebuster. The first qualifier sees a strong performance by Jonze as he looks to breakout in singles, but simply being outmatched against the more experienced Burke. Rudy Switchblade was out with Jonze and told Jonze to lay down as a show of goodwill to Burke at the start as the attempt to recruit him into The Blacklist continued. Jonze was reluctant, but Burke wanted no part of that anyway, leading to the actual competitive match. The commentators put over that The Pope has been on a winning streak since the loss to CM Punk at Retribution in January, perhaps Survival of The Fittest will be the icing on the cake.

Rage In The Cage - October 11, 2014
Footage is shown from the aftermath of Jamin Olivencia's big title win over Marcus Anthony to close the show. In the midst of celebrating, CM Punk would appear in a shocking return to the Davis Arena. Punk offers a congratulations to Olivencia and shakes his hand, but it was all a ruse as he then pulled the new champion in, lifted him up onto his shoulders and dropped down face first onto the knee with a Go To Sleep. Punk stands over Olivencia, looking down as the show goes off the air. A surprise appearance with intentions unknown, and it would remain that way with Olivencia calling out Punk on TV, and Danny Davis having to work towards a deal to get Punk to appear again.VS |
Survival of The Fittest Qualifier
Match #2VS |
Melvin Maximus defeats Eddie Diamond @ 5:34 via submission to the bear hug. Mr. Marvelous avoids Marcus Anthony in the qualifier by drawing EFD instead, 1 time client of Timmy Danger many moons ago here. Diamond would have arguably the biggest task of anybody in these qualifiers as Maximus has been unstoppable since, and even before, his alignment with new manager Danger at the March Saturday Night Special. Diamond started to build towards something, rocking Maximus with some clothesline but being able to take him off his feet. Finally he heads up to the middle rope and comes off, but jumps right into the grasp of Maximus and the bear hug. With the squeeze locked in, it wouldn't take long before EFD would submit. 4M joins Elijah Burke in the 6 man scramble on Sunday night, but the big question is will Anthony?

Saturday Night Special - November 8, 2014
CM Punk would make a second appearance a month after Rage In The Cage to address his actions. While a lengthy explanation was given of the build up, the footage skips to Punk addressing wanting to destroy OVW. He intends to prove that Jamin Olivencia is a fraud, it took him 9 years to be where he was in only 6 months, and Olivencia's been stalling for ages now. Now he's giving him the chance to prove him wrong, and he wants the OVW title so he can walk out with it. He intends to do to the promoters of the NWA what they did to him by not allowing him the opportunity to challenge Daniels for the World Title 1 on 1. Unlike Daniels though, he will beat the best first so that when he vacates it, nothing else matters because the supposed best here couldn't beat him for the accolade. The OVW title will mean nothing just like the NWA title means nothing thanks to Daniels' actions.VS |
Survival of The Fittest Qualifier
Match #3VS |
Rudy Switchblade defeats Ryan Howe @ 6:16 via pinfall after the RudyKO, a jumping cutter. Before the match, Switchblade offered The Rockstar a spot in The Blacklist, but he would have to forfeit this match. Howe pondered the idea briefly, teasing a join, but eventually responded with a right hand to the jaw. Howe came close on several occasions, including locking in the Whammy Bar until Switchblade reached the ropes. Howe continued to control the match, but Switchblade showed just how dangerous he can be when he merely ducked a clothesline and caught the turning Howe with his finisher, picking up the 3 count for the win. Switchblade now joins the man he has been recruiting for The Blacklist, Elijah Burke, in the Survival of The Fittest final. Interesting to see how that plays out at Best In The World, although with Melvin Maximus and 3 others joining them, it might not matter.

Ohio Valley TV - March 14, 2015
What was supposed to be AJ Lee making her first defense of the OVW Women's Title, instead turns into starting the fire for CM Punk. He emerges with the Women's Title belt himself, saying he wanted to make sure OVW knew he was serious because they clearly were not taking him seriously by first making him defeat Elijah Burke at Retribution to get a title shot himself. The championship was vacated, the best woman in the world walked in here, beat the best, and now no matter what happens, the next champion won't mean anything because they are not the best, AJ is. He disrespected and damaged the legacy of the championship, exactly like he will come Best In The World when he defeats Jamin Olivencia for the title and does the same thing as 18 years of history go down the drain.VS |
Survival of The Fittest Qualifier
Match #4VS |
Jeremiah Plunkett defeats Nick Dinsmore @ 6:40 via pinfall with a rollup and a handful of tights. Perhaps the most competitive match yet as the leader of The East has his hands full with Mr. Wrestling himself. Before the match, Plunkett made sure to announce that while the NWA East champion, this was a non title match because Dinsmore was not a contender. This only gave Dinsmore incentive as he had Plunkett on the run and controlled much of the match. Dinsmore had the match in hand, but Plunkett would move out of the way as Dinsmore charged him in the corner. Plunkett then rolled him up with the added leverage to steal a 3 count and the win. Dean calls this grand larceny as Plunkett steals a spot in the 6 way, but Titus says all that matters is whoever's hand is raised at the end of the match. Gilbert makes note that with the win, Plunkett joins Elijah Burke, Melvin Maximus, and Rudy Switchblade, in what is a star studded cast.

Saturday Night Special - April 4, 2015
Footage from the SNS last week with CM Punk coming out with AJ Lee to return the OVW Women's championship to Director of Authority Jim Cornette. Instead though Punk would shove Cornette into Dean Hill and force him to watch as AJ began to hammer the title belt to pieces and desecrate the championship even further. Several talents emerge for the save, but Punk is able to use a chair and stave them off, allowing the 2 of them to escape through the side door. Danny Davis emerges and looks at the destroyed championship belt. Will this be the fate of the OVW title come Best In The World?VS |
Survival of The Fittest Qualifier
Match #5VS |
Marcus Anthony defeats Aaron Sky @ 5:52 via submission to the Crimson Omen, a full nelson. The return of Black Zeus as he has a former Tag Team champion in Sky, having to also contend with Raul Lamotta & The Mexicutioner on the outside. No sign of Shelly Martinez with the commentators speculating that the prospect of a night with EFD at Best In The World sent her running back to California. A couple opportunities for interference gave way, specifically a distraction by Lamotta of the referee, followed by Sky distracting Anthony, and then Mexicutioner catching Anthony with a spear. Sky would pick up his only near fall of the match as Titus declared that this shows just how important Timmy Danger was in his corner and without him, Anthony is nothing. Anthony would then make the comeback and put Sky away, also challenging the others to get in, but nobody wanting to test him out face to face. Bigger than that though, Anthony joins Melvin Maximus in Survival of The Fittest as the showdown will go down at Best In The World in the 6 man scramble elimination match. 1 spot remains to be decided next, and isn't this something as by default it will be Cliff Compton vs Colt Cabana, the co holders of the OVW Tag Team championship.

All that, and don't forget. It's this Wednesday night on ION affiliate WBNA-TV. 8pm, live from the Davis Arena. 2 hours as OVW TV moves from Saturday mornings to Wednesday nights. The regular timeslot will be at 10pm, but this Wednesday, they're giving us 2 hours to mark the occasion. Speaking of which, NWA North American champion John Cena was announced last week, and unfortunately that was premature. Have been unable to get confirmation from his representatives and due to the fact it is only a week away, he is OFF the show. Not to worry though, there will be a surprise appearance in his place, and we are working on something potentially even bigger than Cena. Not to mention all the fallout from Best In The World. The iPPV is on Sunday at 8pm, OVW TV Wednesday at 8pm. A big week of broadcasts you will not want to miss!
Survival of The Fittest Qualifier
Match #6VS |
Cliff Compton defeats Colt Cabana @ 8:31 via pinfall after reversing a small package. The battle of the Tag Team champions sees an initial hesitation that quickly degrades into a competitive back and forth as both want that spot in the 6 way on Sunday night. Both would go for their finisher, but Cabana would counter the Cliffhanger by managing to lift Compton up and over the top rope as he went for the springboard into the DDT, using his own momentum against him. As Cabana went for the Colt 45, putting in the double underhook and lifting Compton up, Mr 1859 was able to reverse back to his feet, break free and scoop out the legs. He then slingshotted Cabana to the corner. As Cabana hit, Compton got up. He turned Cabana and went for the Media Blitz, a sitout scoop slam piledriver. Cabana instead rolled Compton up into the small package, but just past the 2, Compton would reverse it over and manage to hold his partner down long enough for the 3. Compton advances to Best In The World and continues on in Survival of The Fittest. The question remains though, what becomes of the team? Cabana seems a bit taken back by the loss. Compton has the belts and holds 1 out for Cabana. The fans start chanting for Colt, as he grabs his belt and then raises the arm of Compton for his victory in a show of good sportsmanship.
And with that, the road to Best In The World is complete. Sunday night, live on iPPV. Jamin Olivencia, CM Punk, the OVW Heavyweight Title. A match 6 months in the making. And don't forget. Wednesday night, 8pm, here on ION affiliate WBNA-TV 21, it will be live from the Davis Arena. All the fallout as OVW TV moves to Wednesday nights. For Dean Hill, for Michael Titus, Gilbert Corsey saying so long.
Websclusive match #1
Chase Owens defeats Bud Dwight @ 5:16 via pinfall after The Roaring Elbow. Ahead of the match against Ricky Morton, Owens gets a test here against The Party Starter and half of The Wild Boyz, but again shows his worth with a victory. No sign of any of the other members of The East, but The Crown Jewel had no need for them here. Fan Advocate Terry Boddie describes Owens as possibly the best pure wrestler in OVW, if not the NWA, and at only 25, he is just entering his prime and will only get better.VS |
Websclusive match #2
Heidi Lovelace & Mary Elizabeth Monroe defeat Jessie Belle & Taeler Hendrix @ 6:09 when Lovelace pinned Hendrix after a frog splash from the top rope. Big win for Lovelace as she heads into a shot at AJ Lee and the NWA World Women's championship at Best In The World. Boddie says that after what AJ did last week, destroying the OVW championship belt that Lovelace held for the better part of 2014, this may be the most important women's match in OVW history. A win is necessary for Lovelace to not only take that next step, but earn redemption for all the women in the company.VS |
