So as hinted at in the preview thread, I've gone a bit of a different route here. My aim for Maximum Impact is to have more interview/segments and showcase matches, using local talent and perhaps even some of the top free agents who are around at the moment, to help put over my current roster and then use iPPV's as the front for big supercards of matches. If this route doesn't work or its especially hated I'll go back to writing these the way I was doing, but I had more fun writing the show this way.
NWA Maximum: Maximum Impact 15/05/2015
We start the show with EGO, the NWA Maximum Tag Team Champions, making their way out. Damien Sandow takes the mic.
Sandow: “Unwashed masses, last week we were forced to accept the resignation of Bobby Roode from our ranks. His decision is understandable as he wanted to go on a different path. I gave finding a replacement some thought, but then I realised, do we really need brawn like his in our team. Myself and Cody Rhodes are intellectuals of the highest order, which is why I have decided that we will no longer be known as EGO. We will instead refer to ourselves by a name of far greater intellectual value, Team Rhodes Scholars.
And to begin our reign under our new identity, I’m issuing an open challenge to any tag team who wants to step up and face us in the ring tonight. We will take on any morons who think they have the intellectual capacity to do battle with the smartest team in professional wrestling today. You’re welcome!”
The challenge is answered by New Jersey veterans Ace Darling and Devon Storm, who have teamed on the independent circuit in years gone past.
Non-Title Match
Team Rhodes Scholars (Damien Sandow and Cody Rhodes) vs Ace Darling and Devon Storm
An entertaining opening tag match, while no longer than 5 minutes in length it wasn’t completely one sided, as Darling and Storm got a few near falls on Team Rhodes Scholars. But in the end it was an extended showcase for the champs, with Rhodes hitting Darling with Cross Rhodes to get the 3 count.
Winners- The Rhodes Scholars
Grudge Match
Alberto Del Rio vs “The Everyman” Ted Dibiase
After Ted Dibiase turned down Alberto Del Rio’s offer to be his right hand man and indeed become rich again, that lead to this matchup between the two in what is billed as an upper class vs working class match. Dibiase came in looking for a fight, looking to extract some revenge on Del Rio with his fists, while Del Rio worked over the arm of Dibiase with holds in order to try and set up for that Cross Armbreaker. Dibiase got a run of moves together, but before he could capitalise Bobby Roode ran down to the ring with a briefcase. HE SMACKS DIBIASE ON THE ARM WITH THE BRIEFCASE! Del Rio then locks in the Cross Armbreaker, which forces Dibiase to tap out!
Winner- Alberto Del Rio
Roode and Del Rio put the boots to Dibiase as the fans boo, with Roode then revealing that the briefcase is filled with money. This can only mean one thing, that Roode has accepted the offer that was originally made to Dibiase to be Del Rio’s right hand man, forming a new version of Money Inc, the very team that Roode and Dibiase made famous in CPW. The upper class vs working class war just took a new twist.
We cut to a bar where Sheamus has decided to spend his evening. He walks in and nods to the camera as the barmaid pours him a Guinness.
Sheamus: “Hey fellas, glad you could join me. As you all know, there’s two things I love to do in life, and that is kick arse and drink Guinness. And in this my local pub, I can enjoy Guinness in peace after kicking the arses of all the local thugs.”
Sheamus is about to take a bid swig of his pint, until a man comes in and sits next to him, causing him to accidentally drop his Guinness to the floor.
Sheamus: “Looks like I’m all out of Guinness!”
We all know what that means, as Sheamus attacks the man by smashing the glass over his head! Another man tries to come to his defence and Sheamus responds with some punches and throwing some packets of crisps in his face. Soon a mass brawl ensues involving everyone in the bar as we cut away, I guess we will see more of this later.
Bad News Barrett vs Azrieal
A showcase match for Barrett against a former member of The Prophecy, as he tossed around Azrieal with relative ease and fired away with some of those bare knuckle boxing trained fists of his. Barrett picked up a much needed victory following the Bad News Hammer.
Winner- Bad News Barrett
Barrett takes a mic post match.
Barrett: “So perhaps in recent times, I’ve not had the best of luck, my win and loss record hasn’t been anything to write home about. But NWA Maximum, I’ve got some BAD NEWS for you. This win is just the beginning of a winning streak, a streak that will take me to the very top of this promotion and put me up there with the all time greats. And with every victory, I will give the NWA another piece of BAD NEWS!”
Dean Ambrose vs Archadia
Just a showcase match for Ambrose in his NWA Maximum debut as he dominated from bell to bell, getting all his signature moves in, while laughing away to himself and shaking his head, seemingly at how easy this was for him. He put Archadia away with the Dirty Deeds.
Winner- Dean Ambrose
Ambrose gets a mic and grabs the head of Archadia, staring into the camera.
Ambrose: "Is this some kind of joke? Steve Blackman I’m very disappointed that this was the best you could for my debut match. Give me a match with a champion, or the next guy’s gonna have his face ripped off!”
Strong words and we may very well see Ambrose get involved in that title picture soon.
We go backstage where Shane Helms is getting ready for his match versus Matt hardy. Hardy walks in.
Hardy: “Hey Shane, where the hell were you last week when I was getting my ass kicked?”
Helms: “Where were you when Chris Jericho and I were getting our asses kicked on a weekly basis?”
Hardy: “Look, you know I couldn’t run in there without a plan, this has to be done right or Jeff is going to run roughshod over the NWA. The way he’s going he could destroy the whole alliance, you have to trust me on this!”
Helms: "SHUT UP! Because of you, Chris Jericho, one of the greatest NWA World Champions of all time was forced to retire. Because of you, I had to count his shoulders to the canvas. And for what? So you could start your grand plan, that involved turning the lights on and off and being cryptic, a plan that was never ever going to work. You make me sick Matt, if you think I’m making this easy for you tonight your sorely mistaken. I’ll beat you, you can get the hell out of NWA Maximum and I’ll stop Personal Demons by myself!”
Helms leaves as Hardy looks on, shaking his head.
We return to the bar we were in earlier, as we see people lying all over the floor in pain. Sheamus smashes a pool cue over the head of the last person standing before returning to sitting at the bar.
Sheamus: "Well that was unnecessarily violent, but all this business over pleasure is getting old, I came here for a few quiet pints of Guinness and all these people got in the way. I’m going home to enjoy some Guinness in peace.
Sheamus has an entire keg of Guinness with him as he leaves the bar, that should keep him busy for a while. You’d better not mess with this man!
Grudge Tag Team Match
The Family (Bray Wyatt and Paul London) vs The Unholy Union (Johnny Gargano and “The Most Hybrid Athlete in NWA History” Kyle Matthews)
An intense matchup here, as the rivalry between these two teams continues to grow. The rivalry again seems to have split down the middle, as Matthews and Wyatt went at it for most of this matchup, while Gargano had his hands full with London. Matthews grabbed his steel chair and started smacking Wyatt with it to cut him down to size, while Gargano grabbed London on the outside. HURTS DONUT ON THE FLOOR! Gargano then got in the ring and the two start pummelling away on Wyatt with punches and they managed to get the big man down to the canvas. They picked him up as Matthews held Wyatt in place for a charge from Gargano. Gargano charges BUT WYATT MOVES AND GARGANO HITS MATTHEWS! Wyatt takes Gargano down with a Clothesline and throws him out of the ring, then grabs Matthews. SISTER ABIGAIL! 1-2-3, Wyatt gets the win for The Family.
Winners- The Family
Post match The Family left as Matthews and Gargano argued with each other, showing that they still aren’t quite on the same page. They need to get it together the next time they face The Family or Wyatt will just continue to have his way with them.
We cut to Randy Orton who is holding his title and being interviewed.
Orton: “So Dean Ambrose, you want to insult me and my father just to try and get a title match. You think you can just walk in here and demand a shot at my hard earned TV belt? I don’t know what sort of promotion you think this is but I don’t give out title shots to just anyone, you have to earn that shot. I had to go through a battle royal and three tournament matches to get my hands on this, so the way I see it you aren’t getting a shot until you win at least the same number of matches.
But we then cut to Karl Anderson
Anderson: "Randy Orton’s a chicken huh. He’s too scared to put his belt on the line against you Dean. Well I’m not, I don’t give a damn that you haven’t been here all that long, nobody insults my manhood and lives. You want a shot at my belt Dean, come and get it!”
Clearly these two are on a radio link to see each other’s responses as Orton has a response of his own.
Orton: “I’m not chicken Karl Anderson and you know it. I just value the prestige of the NWA Maximum TV Title, a belt that means a lot more than your Heavyweight belt. If I give away title shots without them being earned, that devalues this belt, and that’s not something I’m willing to let happen. Maybe when you beat me in the ring Karl you can decide who and who isn’t a coward!”
And Anderson has the final word.
Anderson: “I might not have beaten you yet Orton, but that doesn’t mean I’m not willing to pin you and end that unbeaten streak of yours. The way I see it as long as the title match is the best match possible then it doesn’t matter how long my opponent has been here. Anybody can beat anybody on the night and Orton, I know I can beat you just like I know I can beat Dean Ambrose, establishing “The Machine Gun” as the true champion of NWA Maximum!”
Its time for the contract signing between Brock Lesnar and Samoa Joe. Joe makes his way out first to a big ovation, then is followed by Lesnar. Chris Jericho has been chosen as the man to oversee the ceremony, in place of Steve Blackman who is apparently finalising a big announcement at the end of this show.
Jericho: "Gentlemen, thanks for joining me for this contract signing. I'd like you both to sign on the dotted line and make this historic match official, a match that all the Jerichoholics in this audience want to see!"
The fans cheer and they really want to see this massive dream match. Jericho summons them to sign the contract as Lesnar chooses to sign first. He gives Joe a long stare and then signs the contract. Joe then casually walks to the table to sign the contract, putting his signature on it. But just as he finishes LESNAR ATTACKS HIM FROM BEHIND! He lifts up Joe, F5 THROUGH THE TABLE! Lesnar snatches the mic from the stunned Jericho.
Lesnar: "Wanna embarrass me huh? You thought you'd get away with what you did last week. Nobody makes a fool outta me, your gonna lose to the baddest man on the planet!"
Lesnar goes to leave but Jericho stops him and the two have a stare down.
Lesnar: "Get back to your table announcer boy, even if you weren't retired you wouldn't stand a chance!"
Lesnar leaves and Jericho stares him out all the way, before helping Joe to recover from the attack. Lesnar has made a statement here for sure, and I can't wait to see how Joe responds!
Main Event, If Matt Hardy Wins He Gets His Match Versus Personal Demons
Matt Hardy vs Shane Helms
There was no handshake from these two as it is clear that they are no longer on the same page, and Helms seems to have put the blame for the retirement of Chris Jericho solely on Hardy’s shoulders, which I expect was the intention of Personal Demons in doing all this. Hardy tried to wrestle this cleanly and put on a good match, but Helms wrestled aggressively, not letting up on Hardy for a minute and firing away with everything he had. Helms ended up missing a Shining Wizard attempt, crashing into the turnbuckle in the process, then Hardy dropped him with a Side Effect followed by the Hardy Legdrop, getting a near fall. He then picked up Helms and went for the Twist of Fate, but Helms reversed and hat the Shining Wizard, also getting a near fall. Helms then went for the Vertabreaker, but Hardy blocked it, finally hitting the Twist of Fate to get 3 and secure the match versus Personal Demons!
Winner- Matt Hardy
Post match Helms begins to recover in the corner as Hardy celebrates his win. The Reject then charges for the ring, smacking Hardy in the back with the chair. He slides the chair over the Helms and runs out of the ring backstage, with Helms having not seen the attack. He grabs the chair and wonders how it got there as Hardy gets up and see Helms with the chair. He shouts at Helms and asks him what he thinks he’s doing attacking him with the chair, as Helms denies it rightfully and leaves.
Personal Demons is then shown backstage looking on, laughing away at the development as he has managed to once again one up Matt Hardy thanks to some clever mind games.
“The Commissioner of Asskicking” Steve Blackman is out to end our show, with some big news in hand.
Blackman: “Thank you fans of the NWA, for sticking with us through these first few months. My vision was for a promotion without the usual restriction of wrestling, without rules and regulation, a place where real men like me can kick ass any way that they so please and with whatever they please. With all of your support, I just know that NWA Maximum will continue to grow and succeed in the NWA. And that is why I wan to give you, the fans, not one but TWO rewards!
The first is this. On Friday June 5th, live here in the NWA Maximum Arena, we will host an iPPV, with three big headlining matches. The first will be the Brother vs Brother matchup between Matt Hardy and Personal Demons, with Matt Hardy retiring if he loses. The second will be the dream matchup as Brock Lesnar does battle with Samoa Joe. And finally, we will also have a title defence from the current NWA World Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles against an opponent yet to be decided. I….”
Before Blackman can finish, DANIEL BRYAN makes his way to the ring as the fans give him a thunderous ovation, chanting “Yes!” over and over as he enters the ring with mic in hand.
Bryan: “I’m sorry to interrupt you Commissioner Blackman, but I had just arrived in the area and couldn’t help overhearing the news. There is a title shot available against AJ Styles, and I would like to nominate myself for that matchup. As one of the longest reigning Junior Heavyweight Champions the NWA has ever seen, I know now I can make the step up and challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship, and I’m sure that these fans will agree with me!”
Bryan encourages the fans and they all chant “YES!” over and over to show their support for Bryan getting that shot.
Blackman: “I appreciate that you want a shot Bryan and I brought you to NWA Maximum to take the next step in your wrestling career. You will of course be considered for a title match, but I won’t be rushed into making that decision. Next week, once I have given this match some thought, I will announce the opponent AJ Styles is set to face, which may or may not be Daniel Bryan!”
Bryan seems content with this, as he manages to encourage Blackman to do his own ”Yes” pose and chant with him before he leaves. Blackman isn’t done yet though
Blackman: "As big as the news of an iPPV taking place is, the second piece of news tops even this. I can now officially confirm that on Sunday July 26th, live here in New Jersey, NWA Maximum will be the official host promotion for the next NWA League PPV, Summerslam! We will make this one of the greatest NWA PPV’s yet, starting with one key thing: unless stated otherwise all matches on this show will take place under NWA Maximum rules, meaning there are NO rules!”
The fans explode for that news, what an announcement from Blackman, not only have we got a big iPPV to look forward to in a few weeks, we will also have an NWA PPV held live here featuring the stars of all the NWA member promotions, including all the NWA champions, all competing under NWA Maximum rules! I can’t wait, see you next week for more NWA Maximum action!
