Red, White, & Slam
July 4th, 2015
Live From the Mid-South Coliseum
Sponsored by Bob's BBQ Emporium and the Neon Cowboy Bar & Outdoor Grill
Video crews are set up all over the arena to capture the reopening of one of the Pro Wrestling legendary venues. Hanging from the ceiling are two huge banners one of Brock Lesner and the other of Samoa Joe. The arena filled up fast and the excitement for the night is thick in the air.
Cody Rhodes walks silently to the ring with a cowboy hat perched back on the crown of his head and still wearing tight jeans. He calls for a microphone.
"Ladies and gentlemen let me first just say thank each and everyone of you for coming out tonight. It's going to be a big night for us here in Memphis and I'm sure you are in for a treat. Tonight will also be the first time I have not been able to call my Father before a match. The world knew my Father as Dusty Rhodes, I knew him as my Father and my hero and even more importantly my friend. So I'm not supposed to share this with anyone prior to Mr. Lawler waddling down here and announcing it but I'm in a rebellious mood. Tonight I have a shot to be the first Memphis Wrestling Southern Heavyweight Champion in our new tenure when I face Sheamus, Rusev, and Kofi Kingston in a ladder match for the title. I dedicate this match win, lose, or draw to the greatest wrestler and the greatest entertainer and the greatest Father this world has ever known."
The crowd explodes as Dusty Rhodes entrance music fills the building.
"Oh and by the way, you can all now refer to me as 'The American Dream' Cody Rhodes."
Hype Train: Mojo Rawley & Zac Ryder Vs Caleb Conley & Rob Ryzin
Hype Train came to the ring shouting and high fiving everyone in the arena as Conley and Ryzin waited for them to enter the ring. Ryder started the match but quickly got cornered by Conley and Ryzin who worked him over with a headlock tagging in and out. When they went for a double backdrop but Ryder caught them with a double DDT. The crowd stomped their feet, willing Ryder to get the tag as he lept toward Rawley and got relief. Rawley came in screaming like a maniac and handling both men with clothesline after clothesline. He yelled 'GET HYPED' before lifting Conley onto his shoulder, Ryder flew from the top rope catching Conley with a reverse DDT off of Moho's shoulders.
WINNERS VIA PIN: Hype Train: Mojo Rawley & Zac Ryder
Jerry Lawler made his way to the ring carrying his crown under his arm and issuing curt waves to the people.
"You should all be bowing down to me right now! I have brought your dirty, filthy, unworthy city back to relevance!"
The crowd booed loudly and some were surprised they were getting this version of the King.
"You peons cannot even recognize royalty. Anyway, tonight, because you gave me your money, I have decided to hold a four man ladder match for the REAL Southern Heavyweight Championship! To that 'other' promotion out there, claiming to be the South you should get a map. Louisville, KY is Cincinasty butthole and is hardly SOUTH. Anyway, I digress, oh sorry big word. Let me get back on topic. Even though that moron Cody Rhodes broke MY news I still needed to grace you all with my presence."
Southern Heavyweight Championship Ladder Match
'The American Dream' Cody Rhodes vs Sheamus vs Rusev vs Kofi Kingston
Cody Rhodes came down to Dusty Rhodes' entrance music and the crowd was fully behind him. Sheamus and Rusev seemed at first to be working together to take the two smaller men out of the match but Rusev found himself unable to keep up with the smaller Kingston. Rhodes laid out Sheamus with a huge elbow off the second turnbuckle before rolling outside and throwing 2 ladders into the center of the ring. Cody began climbing and was at the top with one finger on the belt when Kingston flew from the top rope with a missile dropkick. The crowd held its breath as Cody flew into the crowd landing into a heap of chairs and didn't move. As Kingston reached his feet his head was almost knocked off by Sheamus with a huge brogue kick. Sheamus began climbing but was stopped by Rusev who climbed up behind him and locked on the camel clutch while still on the ladder bringing both the ladder and Sheamus to the mat. Outside the ring EMTs were attending to Cody Rhodes. Rusev and Sheamus got to their feet at the same time and then Rusev took Sheamus and himself out with a huge clothesline that brought both men to the floor. Kingston was now on his feet and saw his chance, he climbed the ladder slowly as pain obviously racked his body. The crowd suddenly exploded as Cody pushed the EMTs out of the way and ran into the ring, climbed the opposite side of the ladder and took Kingston out with a big bionic elbow. Rhodes had only to reach up to the belt but Sheamus made the save and pulled him down. Rhodes ducked under the brogue kick and BIONIC ELBOW, Sheamus laid out now completely unconscious. Rusev sneaks up behind Rhodes and hits him with a jumping side kick, Kingston then hit Rusev with 'Trouble in Paradise'. Kingston was the only man standing and quickly climbed the ladder and grabbed the title to become the first Memphis Southern Heavyweight Champion of the new era!
WINNER AND NEW SOUTHERN HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION: Kofi Kingston
Kofi held the title close to his chest as he backed away from the ring victoriously.
