So I finished the writeup for this show this morning so figured I may as wel get it posted, so I can start looking at expanding my roster up to the full limit, thus giving more options for the Tag Team Titles. Anyway I had a lot of fun writing this show with some fresh talent so I hope you enjoy the show.
NWA Maximum: Maximum Impact 10/07/2015: Extreme League II
Hello and welcome to Maximum Impact, where tonight we will crown our new NWA Maximum Heavyweight Champion in the second Extreme League tournament. The brackets for the tournament are as follows-
Extreme League Quarter Final
Drew Gulak vs Chuck Taylor
A good opening match between these two, as while Gulak came in with a definite hardcore approach with lots of weapons being used, Taylor tried to keep this on the mat any way he so could. The two ended up having some great mat wrestling exchanges but that counted for little when the only way to win is to knock out your opponent. After Gulak smacked Taylor over the head with a vicious chair shot that busted him open, he tried to make Taylor pass out in the Gu-Lock, hoping the blood loss would knock him unconscious. But Taylor somehow managed to hold on, avoiding passing out and using the ropes to drag himself to his feet and free himself from the hold. Gulak would attempt a charge, but Taylor avoided it AND NAILS THE AWFUL WAFFLE! That was enough to declare Gulak knocked out and allow Taylor to advance. That Awful Waffle could be the difference between success and failure for Taylor in the tournament!
Winner- Chuck Taylor
Extreme League Quarter Final
Mike Bennett vs JT Dunn
Bennett didn't seem to take Dunn seriously as a challenger, mocking him from the get go and thinking the match would be a cake walk. However Bennett clearly underestimated Dunn and his wrestling ability, this is one of the top prospects from the independant circuit and he took the fight to Bennett, matching him on the mat and actually being the stronger in the hardcore department. Bennett's best option was to take a more powerful approach, using the minor size and weight advantage he had to his advantage. And that approach seemed to be working as Bennett looked to hit the Photo Finish to almost certainly end the match. He lifted Dunn up for the move and was about to hit it BUT DUNN NAILS THE KNOCK OUT ELBOW! That knocked out Bennett and Dunn manages to get a huge win over a former World Tag Team Champion!
Winner- JT Dunn
We go backstage to the lower reaches of the arena, where Personal Demons sits in darkness alongside The Reject.
Demons: "Its finally official, on July 26th, all that I have been working for will finally come true, when I am crowned your new NWA World Heavyweight Champion. It is the gratification that I have always deserved, but never received. You see for years I had been viewed as a has been and a liability by the promoters of the NWA, constantly sitting on the unemployment line. And in that time I went to rehab, got myself cleaned up and gained a new focus and purpose. That purpose was to reach my potential, to win the World Heavyweight Title and to conquer my personal demons. That dream is now within my grasp, and I don't intend to waste my chance at glory.
You might not have agreed with my methods, the way that I brutally assaulted and retired my brother from this business, the way I ended the career of one of the all time great NWA World Champions Chris Jericho, but I made an impact and got the attention of the entire NWA in the process. Suddenly the NWA needs Jeff Hardy, when a few months ago you didn't give a damn. Well when I win the belt at Summerslam, the NWA will kneel before Jeff Hardy, the man who overcame his Personal Demons!"
Extreme League Quarter Final
Trevor Lee vs Azrieal
Azrieal has had a decent run since his return to New Jersey, but in Trevor Lee he faced one of the top prospects in all of professional wrestling, who can wrestle almost any style of match efficently. Azrieal decided to bring a ladder into play to go with his general high flying approach, figuring an aerial move from the top may have the desired impact to knock Lee out. Lee on the other hand had many weapons at his disposal, he was able to outwrestle Azrieal on the mat and also outfight him with some stiff strikes. Azrieal managed to get up onto the top of the ladder in order to try for that high risk move, going for the EG Splash off the top, but misses and hits the canvas! He then hits the Orange Crush, and that is enough to class Azrieal as knocked out.
Winner- Trevor Lee
Extreme League Quarter Final
Dan Maff vs Chris Dickinson
Oh man, this match was stiff, just a wild fight between the grizzled and powerful veteran Maff and the hard hitting MMA style of Dickinson. Dickinson just pounded Maff with strike after strike, also grabbing weapons like a steel chair and a kendo stick and pummelling Maff with them. Maff fired back with his own vicious strikes, in particular some super stiff forearms and headbutts that had the crowd wincing, combining these with his power to throw Dickinson around. Dickinson managed to lock a Choke on Maff, adding Body Scissors to make the hold more effective, but Maff escaped by simply falling backwards and crushing Dickinson under his weight. Maff then lifted us Dickinson, HALF NELSON SUPLEX ON A STEEL CHAIR! Dickinson is done after that and Maff advances!
Winner- Dan Maff
So the semi finals for the tournament will see Chuck Taylor face JT Dunn, while Trevor Lee will do battle with Dan Maff! But to break up the action, next we have a tag team matchup for your entertainment.
The Pistols (Matt Taven and "The FN Machine" Brian Cage) vs Irish Airborne (Jake and Dave Crist)
Irish Airborne got a tryout here after the closure of NWA Epic Pro left them without a home promotion, getting a great opportunity against a team that has been on a roll since their return to New Jersey in The Pistols. Irish Airborne showed great double team skill and more than matched The Pistols in that regard, but against the all round power and ability of Brian Cage and the smarts and technical skill of Taven they were a little outmatched on the night. Cage would put Jake away following the Weapon X, getting his fourth pinfall win in the space of 4 weeks and continuing his (and The Pistols) revived fortunes.
Winners- The Pistols
Post match Mike Bennett makes his way out to join The Pistols as Taven gets a mic.
Taven: "You know New Jersey, The Pistols are all about three things: sex, drugs and rock 'n' wrestling! But we are also about one other thing, and that's titles, and we haven't had any of those for a few months now. Thats why we are going to exercise our rematch clause for the NWA World Tag Team Titles belts, we challenge you Young Bucks to a match at Summerslam. If you think you can match up, then The Pistols are ready to gun you down!"
This could be a really exciting matchup, these two teams have had some great matches in the past, but with the added factor of Brian Cage thrown in there who is back on a roll in the team that made him a star we could be in for a really closely fought encounter!
Extreme League Semi Final
Chuck Taylor vs JT Dunn
Taylor looked pretty tired going into this one, the blood loss he suffered in the previous match with Drew Gulak has taken its toll but he still had some fight left in him yet. Dunn had a slightly easier first round so was the more refreshed of the two, and targeted Taylor's head to try and bust him open for a second time, which would only make his task easier. But Taylor has a big heart and refused to stay down, as despite having his head busted open after some punches and a steel chair shot he fought back with all he had, hitting his own series of nasty chair shots and followed it with a Moonsault and then a Springboard Dropkick, sending Dunn into the corner and hitting a Turnbuckle Powerbomb that came close to ending it. Dunn managed to get Taylor into a Choke hold to try and make him pass out, but Taylor reversed, throwing Dunn into the ropes. Dunn tried for a charging Knock Out Elbow, but Taylor ducked, AWFUL WAFFLE! Dunn is done and Taylor manages to advance despite the odds being against him, but he looks exhausted now and 1 more win may be too much for him.
Winner- Chuck Taylor
AJ Styles taped some words earlier this week for Personal Demons and for Brock Lesnar.
Styles: "So Jeff, you managed to get what you want, does it feel good to have the chance to ruin the legacy of this title and all the work I and every other World champion put in. Well it won't feel good for long because I'm going to beat you within an inch of your life at Summerslam, you think I'm gonna let you tarnish the hard work of the true greats of this business, like Harley Race, Ric Flair, Lou Thesz and Dusty Rhodes, no way! When I beat you clean in the middle of the ring at Summerslam, you can go back to North Carolina and drown yourself in meth.
And Brock Lesnar, you want to stick your nose in my business and help out a man who has no respect for the great champions who made this belt important to begin with. You might have beaten me, but you needed Personal Demons to do it, had it not been for him I'd have beaten you and I'd be the baddest man on the planet. When I'm done with Jeff Hardy I'll come after you next and prove why I am phenomenal!"
Extreme League Semi Final
Trevor Lee vs Dan Maff
Trevor lee looked great in his 1st round win over Azrieal, but in Dan Maff he had a much greater challenge, a man who had a definite weight advantage over him. But Lee is deceptively strong, he was not only able to go toe to toe with Maff in the fighting stakes, he actually lifted Maff off his feet with ease, including with a Suplex that wowed the fans. But Maff was always going to have the power advantage with the 60 pound weight advantage, and used it to throw Lee around with considerable ease and thus control the matchup, coming very close to knocking out Lee with a chair assisted Cannonball in the corner. Lee fought back, again managing to slam Maff and hit him with a German Suplex that came close to keeping Maff down. He then went for the Orange Crush, but did not quite have the strength to hit that move. HALF NELSON SUPLEX! Lee still manages to just about stumble to his feet before the ref counted him down, but Maff grabbed him again. BURNING HAMMER! This time Lee is out for the count and Maff advances to the final to face Chuck Taylor!
Winner- Dan Maff
To give the two men time to recover ahead of the final, we have another bonus matchup for you with the return to New Jersey of Michael Elgin!
Michael Elgin vs Mike Sydal
A tryout Mike Sydal here as Elgin makes his return to New Jersey to a massive ovation from the fans. He looked really good as he ran though his repertoire of moves, with Sydal getting a few chances to shine to but this was mostly an Elgin showcase. He would put Sydal away with the Crossface to make him tap out.
Winner- Michael Elgin
Jay Lethal is backstage with interviewer Sean Waltman.
Waltman: "Jay Lethal, you wanted some time to talk to the fans, what's on your mind man?"
Lethal: "Well Sean, Summerslam is on my mind, you see at Uncensored I came so close to becoming the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, on any other day I could have won the belt but it wasn't my night. But Summerslam is being held here in my home state of New Jersey, and I know these fans will back me to the moon and back, so I'm going to throw my name into the title picture. What belt do I want? I want to be the new NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion, so Adrian Neville if you are up for the challenge then I'm ready to take that title belt away from you, and prove that Summerslam is the night I've been waiting for!"
Waltman: "You heard it here first fans, Jay Lethal wants the World Junior Heavyweight Champion in a match at Summerslam, but will the challenge be accepted? Its up to the champ so keep your eyes out for the next Windy City show to see if the champion will respond. Back to you at ringside!"
Extreme League Final
Chuck Taylor vs Dan Maff
Taylor has had more stitches applied to his forehead after the cut got reopened in his match with JT Dunn, and is really struggling now, so rather than hold anything back he chose to just go all out to end this quickly from the get go. He grabbed a steel chair and smacked Maff with it, having zero effect, before hitting him another 3 times to finally take him down to the canvas. He follows this with a top rope Dropkick and a Springboard Moonsault, but this didn't keep Maff down for all that long. He went for the Awful Waffle but there's no way he's hitting that on someone nearly 100 pounds heavier, Maff simply slipped around the back and grabbed Taylor, HALF NELSON SUPLEX, BUT TAYLOR GETS RIGHT BACK UP! LARIAT BY MAFF TURNS HIM INSIDE OUT! Taylor is down and Maff asks the ref to count, but Taylor somehow find enough energy to get up at 9 and the fans are rallying behind him now with loud "Taylor" chants. But Maff is in no mood to mess about, he grabs Taylor one more time. BURNING HAMMER! Taylor tries but he can't get up in time and is declared knocked out, Maff wins and the title belt is his!
Winner- NEW NWA Maximum Heavyweight Champion, Dan Maff
So Chuck Taylor gave his all and almost pulled the win out of the bag, but in the end Maff was in better shape going into the final and won the belt. Maff wins his first title in two years after holding the Hybrid Pro Heavyweight Title here in New Jersey as part of The Prophecy, now Maff's on his own but looking arguably stronger than he ever has, this New Jersey veteran is going to be hard for anyone to beat. Thanks for tuning in folks, see you next week as the build to Summerslam continues!
