Probably not my strongest show, but this was largely just here to showcase the champions and to get some stuff going for post Summerslam. Next week's show will mostly be Summerslam hype with maybe a few matches to balance things out, as my focus writing wise from here on will be Summerslam itself.
NWA Maximum: Maximum Impact 16/07/2015
The Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin) vs The Bravado Brothers (Harlem and Lance Bravado)
The Motor City Machine Guns are back together again for the first time in many months, a team that we thought we would never see teamed up again in the NWA. They look great here in what was largely a showcase match for them, showing off their wide variety of double team moves and staking a claim for the upcoming tournament to crown new NWA Maximum Tag Team Champions. They would hit the ASCS Rush on Harlem which was enough to get the win.
Winners- The Motor City Machine Guns
Post match Shelley takes the mic.
Shelley: "Now I know what you are all thinking, why Alex, why Chris, why reform the Motor City Machine Guns? Well here's our answer: why not? We've been sitting on the sidelines on and off for months, our talent going to waste. We are both amazing wrestlers, capable of great things in the NWA, but combined we make a team without equal. The tag team scene in the NWA grows ever more stagnant, so we reunite with a purpose, to revive tag team wrestling in the NWA and make it mean something again. Young Bucks, Pistols, whichever one of you win at Summerslam, The Motor City Machine Guns are ready to gun you down!"
Karl Anderson makes his way to the ring, a look of purpose on his face.
Anderson: "Randy Orton ,you've dodged me long enough. You will fight me right here, right now, and I won't take no for an answer!"
Randy Orton then appears on the titantron, his lawyer David Otunga at his side.
Orton: "Karl you really don't get it do you? You might try to kill me in my own home, a crime you will pay for in court, and you may find ways around my restraining order, but that still doesn't mean I'm putting this belt on the line against you. You've not earned a shot, but here's what I'm going to do Karl. NWA maximum recently introduced a rule where if a champion wins 5 matches in a row they will receive an NWA World Title shot of their choosing. Well Karl if you can win 5 matches in a row then maybe I'll give you the title shot you crave. You beat my lawyer David Otunga a few weeks ago so that's one, this week I'm giving you Matt Tremont, a local star who with enough money was swayed to take you out of commission. I'll see you next week for match three, that is if you get through this week's match!"
"Machine Gun" Karl Anderson vs Matt Tremont
Tremont is an ultraviolent star of the local scene looking to make an impact in NWA Maximum, but Anderson was in somewhat of an ultraviolent mood himself as Randy Orton continues to evade him. Tremont used lots of weapons here to keep up with Anderson, but Anderson was in no mood for games and showed his own violent side, busting Tremont open with some vicious shots with a singapore cane then smacking away at him with a steel chair. He planned for a Gun Stun on a steel chair, but then David Otunga ran out with briefcase in hand, distracting the referee. Anderson tries to go after Otunga who leaps off the apron, Tremont then attacks from behind. Tremont then goes for a Urinage, but Anderson reverses to the Gun Stun! 1-2-3!
Winner- Karl Anderson
Anderson tries to go after Otunga post match, but he runs up the ramp and backstage to the waiting limo of Randy Orton, They drive off before Anderson can get to them, as he looks frustrated once again. But three more wins and he will get that shot at Randy Orton!
John Cena head out to boos from the fans, his North American Title in hand.
Cena: "The champ is here, so you'd better show him some respect! I'd like to say its good to be back in New Jersey, but that would be giving you pricks way too much credit!"
The fans boo some more as Cena simply laughs to himself.
Cena: "10 days from now, I have to defend this belt against that loser Chris Masters, a loser who never wins on the big stage. Meanwhile New Jersey I always get the job done when it counts, which is why I am your North American Champion. Tonight I figured I would give all you rejects a look at the skills you will be seeing, so I'm issuing an open challenge. You think you can beat me? Well anyone who wants to step, let me show you why you can't see me!"
Cena awaits a challenger and the challenge is answered by Drew Gulak.
Non-Title Match
John Cena vs Drew Gulak
Largely a showcase for Cena, Gulak had his moments but right now he isn't quite on the champ's level, so outside of a few near falls this was all Cena. He would put Gulak away with the Attitude Adjustment in a little over 5 minutes.
Winner- John Cena
Cena raises his belt and does the "you can't see me" gesture over the downed Gulak. Will he be doing the same thing 10 days from now? Or will Masters be the one doing the celebrating?
The Pistols make their way to the ring as they have a tag team match against Irish Airborne. Taven takes the mic.
Taven: "Now Young Bucks, I bet you think you have The Pistols all figured out. You think that the most rock 'n' roll team in the entire NWA don't stand a chance cause you've beaten us before. Well ladies, gentlemen, I have an ace in the hole. You see we weren't going to announce the two members of our group to take on the World Tag Team Champions until the night of the show, but with the coup I just pulled off I think you all deserve to know. The first man is the man unbeaten since he came back to our family, The FN Machine Brian Cage. But his partner is a new member, a man who's never been in our group before and one who will give you Young Bucks the challenge of your life. He's not just a machine, he's an UNBREAKABLE machine, because the new member of The Pistols is MICHAEL ELGIN!"
The crowd explode for Michael Elgin as he joins The Pistols in the ring, and this really is a massive signing by The Pistols. Not only have they got a man who was on fire last year here in the NWA and continues to grow as a wrestler, but they have under The Pistols banner reunited The Unbreakable FN Machines. This could be trouble for The Young Bucks!
The Pistols ("The FN Machine" Brian Cage and "Unbreakable" Michael Elgin) w/Matt Taven and Mike Bennett vs Irish Airborne (Dave and Jake Crist)
A totally one sided match for The Pistols, as Cage an Elgin ran riot on Irish Airborne here who I don't think knew what hit them. Cage would knock Dave out of the ring with a Discus Lariat as the two fought outside of the ring, as Elgin hit a Revolution Elgin Bomb on Jake to pin him for the 3 count!
Winners- The Pistols
Post match The Young Bucks came out, still looking smug, and the two teams had a staredown in the ring. The Young Bucks left before either came to blows, but deep down I bet they now think that The Pistols might have a chance of victory!
Jay Lethal is out for a warm-up match against Jimmy Jacobs to prepare for his matchup versus Adrian Neville. Before the match can begin however, Adrian Neville makes his way out, joining the commentary team to scout his opponent for Summerslam.
Jay Lethal vs Jimmy Jacobs
A good matchup here, short as it was a little under 10 minutes in length, but a fun and competitive matchup as Lethal gets ready for his shot against Adrian Neville. Jacobs brought his spike out and used it against Lethal, busting his head open with some shots from that and only making the wound bigger with some punches to the skull. Lethal managed to survive the assault and fight back, the support of his home town crowd only inspiring him more towards victory. And he would get that win as he would hit the Lethal Injection to get the 3 count!
Winner- Jay Lethal
Post match Neville quickly got up from the announce table and charged into the ring with his title, NAILING LETHAL FROM BEHIND WITH THE BELT! The fans boo as Neville raises his title, I'm sure the fans want to see a home town victory for Neville in New Jersey 10 days from now, but will Neville defy them?
Main Event Grudge Match
"The Phenomenal" AJ Styles vs The Reject
Styles has tried to get his hands on Personal Demons for weeks, but it seems every time he tries The Reject manages to provide the distraction needed to ensure Demons comes out on top. Now Styles had a chance for revenge against the man formerly known as Shannon Moore who has been Demons' right hand man through his entire run in NWA Maximum so far. These two have wrestled in the past and it was as you would expect, Styles was the better wrestler of the two on the mat but The Reject was completely willing and able to put his body on the line with high risk moves, taking to the air at any chance he got.
Styles was about ready to wrap this one up as he called for the Styles Clash, but before he could hit the move Personal Demons ran out with a chair in hand. He goes for a chairshot on Styles, but Styles avoids it AND DEMONS HITS THE REJECT! Styles gets his hands on Demons and the two fire away with lefts and right at each other UNTIL STYLES HITS THE PELE! He picks up Demons. STYLES CLASH! The Reject tries to attack from behind, but Styles avoids the attempt and hits a Discus Lariat! He picks The Reject up, STYLES CLASH! 1-2-3!
Winner- AJ Styles
A big win for Styles as he grabs his belt and holds it up as Demons and The Reject are down on the canvas, with Styles finally having gotten some retribution over The Fallen after weeks of torment from them. If this happens 10 days from now at Summerslam then Styles will be on his way to another successful title defence. But does Demons have something else up his sleeve? Or will his dream and what could be his best ever opportunity at becoming the NWA World Champion end in vein?
