NWA Maximum: Maximum Impact 14/08/2015
The show opens with Randy Orton, the NWA Maximum TV Champion, making his way to the ring to a chorus of boos. He is dressed for action and is also accompanied to the ring by his lawyer David Otunga. Orton takes the mic.
Orton: "So a lot of people have been asking me lately, 'Randy, how come you never wrestle anymore, are you some kind of chicken?'. Well the reason I haven't been wrestling is simple: every time I walk out here Karl Anderson makes another attempt on my life. When you've been attacked in your own home by a violent psychopath like that man then you should know why I am so wary of getting in this ring and doing what I love. That is why in order to silence the critics, my lawyer David Otunga has taken care of this problem."
Otunga: "Mr Karl Anderson, I have here a piece of paper signed by the NWA Board of Directors and by Commissioner Steve Blackman, banning you from walking within 100 feet of my client Mr Orton. If you so much as enter the ringside area again when Randy Orton is in the ring, you will be suspended indefinitely and any chance of a match with my client will be finished. I therefore suggest Mr Anderson that you concentrate on winning your final 2 required matches to secure a NWA Maximum TV Title matchup instead of trying to endanger the life of my client any further."
Orton: "So you see Karl, there's no point in getting involved, not unless you want to throw away all that hard work of yours and end up in a jail cell. Now in order to prove my TV Title holding credentials, I'm issuing an open challenge to anyone in the locker room to face me for this title right here, right now. You think you are more deserving of this title than I am, then come out here and prove it!"
The challenge is answered by JT Dunn, a man who made a real impact in the Heavyweight Title Tournament before losing out to Chuck Taylor in the semi finals. Can he dethrone Orton?
NWA Maximum TV Title Match
Randy Orton w/David Otunga "Attorney at Law" vs JT Dunn
Orton didn't seem to take Dunn seriously at all as an opponent, mocking him from the get go, but Dunn was not here to mess about as he took the fight to Orton from the get go, hitting hard and moving fast. Orton had to try and ground Dunn as best he could, locking Dunn in a series of submissions including a Chinlock that almost saw Dunn pass out in the hold. Dunn managed to escape that and mount a fightback, getting a near fall off a Superkick, but an X-Factor attempt was countered into a Powerslam! Orton pounded the canvas with anger and prepared for the RKO as he looked like he'd had enough of this match. He went for it but Dunn throws Orton into the ropes AND HITS THE KNOCK OUT ELBOW! 1-2-OTUNGA PULLS THE REF OUT! That would have been it and Dunn is furious, chasing Otunga around the ringside area before cornering him in the ring. He grabs Otunga and hits him with an X-Factor, but Orton is back up behind him, RKO! 1-2-3, Orton retains but had it not been for David Otunga then we would have almost certainly had a new champion!
Winner- Randy Orton
Cody Rhodes makes his way to the ring with mic in hand.
Rhodes: "You may be asking where's Damien Sandow? Well the truth is I don't need Sandow at my side anymore, I'm sick of being stuck in tag teams and overlooked by NWA management. I am one of the best wrestlers on the planet, and its time to prove it by rising to the top, starting tonight!"
Cody Rhodes vs Bandido Jr
A basic showcase match for Rhodes, who largely dominated this one and showcased the wide variety of moves in his moveset. Bandido Jr did have one or two opportunities to shine, but he was largely cannon fodder for the newly focused Rhodes. He would hit the Cross Rhodes and that got him the 3 count and the win.
Winner- Cody Rhodes
NWA Maximum Tag Team Title Tournament Semi Final
The Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin) w/Roderick Strong vs BEYOND (Biff Busick and Drew Gulak) w/Chris Dickinson
In what was a surprise move, Roderick Strong accompanied The Motor City Machine Guns to the ring, apparently to counteract any outside interference from Chris Dickinson. The match itself was a very good one, there was plenty of mat wrestling from both teams with quick double team moves from The Guns and BEYOND bringing weapons into play to use whenever the opportunity arose. Dickinson tried to get involved at one point, but Strong pulled him off the apron and the two started firing away on each other with chops and strikes. The Guns would then hit Gulak with the ASCS Rush and that got them the 3 count to advance.
Winners- The Motor City Machine Guns
The battle between Roderick Strong and Chris Dickinson continued post match, and the referee demanded they break it up and settle this in the ring. Which lead to....
Chris Dickinson vs Roderick Strong
A wild, albeit it short match here as these two hard hitters unleashed all they had. Strong's vicious chops were more than a match for Dickinson's punches and throat thrusts, on the mat the two were both even but this was more of a fight than a wrestling match. Strong went for a Sick Kick, but missed and Dickinson would grab Strong, hitting the Brain Eater, which was enough to put Strong away in a massive win for Dickinson!
Winner- Chris Dickinson
Personal Demons and The Reject make their way to the ring to deafening boos from the fans. Demons takes the mic.
Demons: "Shane Helms, you know where I stand on what you did to me at Summerslam. You cost me my greatest chance at NWA gold by sticking your nose in where it doesn't belong, and now Shane, you have my full attention. You are going to get in this ring with me, and when you do Shane, its going to be your last match and your funeral. And..."
Before Demons can finish his sentance, Shane Helms in his Kryptonite persona comes out onto the ramp.
Helms: "My how the tables have turned Jeff. After all the time you spent goading Chris Jericho into putting his career on the line, all the time you spent doing the same to Matt and then the way you pushed the NWA World Champion AJ Styles into begging for a match against you, you yourself are now begging for a match against me. Well Jeff, I know what you want, you want a match against me and you want my career to be on the line. But you see Jeff you aren't the one with the power this time around, I'm the one who's going to dictate the terms, and there's only one way I'm putting my wrestling career up. And that Jeff is if you lose, then this Personal Demons character is done, you are going to go back to being the Jeff Hardy we know and love and stop destroying your legacy and the people who love and care about you. Those are my terms, accept them or I'm not stepping in the ring with you!"
Demons confers with The Reject and takes a few moments to think. He then readies his response.
Demons: "So that's how it is Shane, if I lose you want me to go back to being plain old regular Jeff Hardy, the man who wasn't good enough for the NWA promoters to give a damn about. Well Shane, I accept your terms, you know why? Because I know I'm going to beat you Shane, you are a broken down, has been of a wrestler, while I still have many good years left. You haven't got a chance in hell of beating me, and when I win and end your career, I'm going to finally take what is rightfully mine, the NWA World Heavyweight Title of AJ Styles! You have 14 days to get ready Shane, see you on iPPV for your last ever match!"
So the match is set, 2 weeks from now live on iPPV, Personal Demons will do battle with Shane Helms, with Helms putting his career on the line while Demons put his Personal Demons persona on the line. Will Helms force Demons to bring back the real Jeff Hardy, or will Demons put an end to the career of Helms in the same way he did to Chris Jericho and Matt Hardy?
Samoa Joe vs Trevor Lee
This match was perhaps a lot more even that you would expect of what should have been a showcase match for Samoa Joe, as Trevor Lee more than kept up with Joe, and even had a few near falls on him. However it was still a pretty quick match at under 10 minutes, with Joe managing to him some of his signature moves and generally show what he brings to the table ahead of a future title match with Dan Maff. He would put away Lee with the Muscle Buster.
Winner- Samoa Joe
Joe celebrates and also takes time to shake hands with Lee and raise his hand, as Dan Maff watches on from backstage with a focused look on his face, it is sure to be a great match and we will see these two battle on iPPV!
NWA Maximum Tag Team Title Tournament Semi Final
The Unholy Alliance (Kyle Matthews and Johnny Gargano) vs The Pistols (Mike Bennett and Tommaso Ciampa) w/Matt Taven
There was still clear tension between Matthews and Gargano here, but after their win last week they look focused with a clear aim of tag team title gold keeping them together as a team at this point. They gave the World Tag Team Champions a real run for their money, as their pure wrestling ability and speed helped them keep up with the slower, more powerful approach of Bennett and Ciampa. Matthews got isolated from his corner for a good portion of the match, as Ciampa and Bennett used their size advantage to throw him around as Gargano begged for the tag. Taven then grabbed the chair of Matthews and tried to use it against him to finish him off as Ciampa held him back. But Matthews moved, made the tag as Taven hat Ciampa! Gargano cleaned house on everyone, including Taven who shouldn't have gotten involved at all, taking him out of the match with a Hurts Donut! Matthews recovered and took Ciampa out with another few chair shots followed by a Suicide Dive out of the ring. Gargano grabbed Bennett, HURTS DONUT! 1-2-3, massive win for Gargano and Matthews who advance to the final, and no matter the outcome they may be owed a shot at the World Tag Team Title belts!
Winners- The Unholy Alliance
So the final of the NWA Maximum Tag Team Title Tournament will see The Motor City Machine Guns of Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin take on the Unholy Alliance of Kyle Matthews and Johnny Gargano, and that will take place 2 weeks from now on iPPV!
Karl Anderson vs Sheamus
This is the fourth match for Karl Anderson of the five he needs to win, and it is yet another tough match as he does battle with the returning Sheamus. It was a wild match as you would expect, a brawl from start to finish as the two fought with their fists and every weapon they could get their hands on. The two had a kendo stick battle that was pretty impressive, with Anderson initially coming out on top of that exchange, before Sheamus fired a few additional shots of his own and then broke his kendo stick in half over the head of Anderson! Sheamus put a few power moves to use, at one point hitting him with a Sitout Powerbomb onto a garbage can that got a near fall! Sheamus set up a table and looked to put Anderson through it with the White Noise, but Anderson escaped and hat a quick Neckbreaker to get a standing 10 count for both men. Anderson then mounted a fightback with punches followed by a vicious chair shot that busted Sheamus open! He would then grab Sheamus and drag him over to the table, GUN STUN THROUGH THE TABLE! 1-2-3, Anderson wins and now needs just one more victory to guarantee himself a TV Title match versus Randy Orton. Orton has to be feeling the nerves now!
Winner- Karl Anderson
AJ Styles makes his way out to loud cheers, with his NWA World Heavyweight Title in hand.
Styles: "Last week I gave all of you great NWA Maximum fans a taste of what I can do, I once again successfully defended my NWA World Heavyweight Title and proved why I am phenomenal! There's an iPPV coming up in 2 weeks, and right now I don't have an opponent, so I'm throwing out an open challenge. Anyone who wants a shot at my belt in front of the eyes of the wrestling world can step up, so if you think you can take on "The Phenomenal One" then come and get me!"
Styles awaits a challenger to come out and accept the challenge for the iPPV. But I don't think he expected the man who walked out as DANIEL BRYAN COMES DOWN THE RAMP! The fans explode for the former World Junior Heavyweight Champion with chants of "YES!" from the fans echoing around the arena. Bryan gets in the ring and Styles has something to say about this.
Styles: "Daniel Bryan, it would be an honour to put this belt on the line against you, you are the sort of challenger I've been waiting for. But I think this is the sort of match where we should leave no stones unturned, too many big matches in recent times end in controversy, like my match with Personal Demons at Summerslam or the first matchup between Brock Lesnar and Samoa Joe. That's why I want to challenge you to a best 2 out of 3 falls match, this way if the first fall ends in controversy then there is still an opportunity for either of us to get back into the match. What do you say Bryan?"
Styles offers Bryan the mic, but he doesn't need it, he just leads the fans in a chorus of "YES" chants to confirm that he is up for that challenge. What a matchup this is going to be, and its great to see Daniel Bryan back in New Jersey. See you next week wrestling fans with the final week of hype for our iPPV!
