NWA Main Event Showcase 1/25/16

The show opens with the NEW NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Kevin Steen in the middle of the ring with microphone in hand. He’s actually smiling for once as he adjusts the championship belt he’s got slung over his shoulder. Steen looks to the front row where his family is setting cheering him on. Before Steen could utter a word “The Game” by Motorhead hits and the new president of the NWA, Triple H make his way to the ring wearing a suit and tie, climbing into the ring with the champion. Triple H offers a hand to Steen congratulating him on his victory last night at Starrcade. It’s a very begrudging handshake as Steen vows to the president that he’s going to change the landscape of the NWA and bring the Alliance as a whole to another level. Triple H acknowledges Steen but let’s him know that tonight he’d have to face off against Brock Lesnar in the main event here tonight on Showcase!
SINGLES MATCH
Miz vs. Harry Smith
Miz was looking to continue his streak of wins and Smith looked to make his mark in Main Event. This was a great opening match with Harry using his impressive strength to dominate the match. Miz would get lucky a few times showing why he’s a part of the Main Event. Miz would smash Harry in the corner with a clothesline before pulling him out of the corner with a bulldog. Smith would come fighting back peppering Miz with heavy hands trying to wrench Miz up for a running powerslam but Miz would slip free planting Harry with the skull crushing finale to pull out another victory.
SINGLES MATCH
Young Bucks(Matt & Nick Jackson) w/ Adam Cole vs. The Briscoes(Mark & Jay)
The Young Bucks were all over Jay’s arm from the beginning of this match working him over in the worst way. Jay would do everything he could to keep himself protected, making the hot tag to his brother Mark who cleaned house with his redneck kung fu! The crowd were in the corner of the former champs, but Adam Cole would sneak into the ring hitting the florida key suplex on Mark softening him up for the Bucks. Mark would try to get to his feet but took stereo super kicks from the Bucks! The Briscoes would fight hard but the numbers and the injuries from Starrcade was just too much on this night.
The Bucks would continue to assault the former champions with the help of Adam Cole. Adam would get on the mic and put the entire NWA on notice, this is going to be the era of the Bucks!
FATAL FOUR WAY MATCH
Austin Aries vs. AJ Styles vs. Adrian Neville vs. Dolph Ziggler
The winner of this match would go on to X in the ultimate X main event, bodies would fly around the ring with all four men trying to how off why they’d be the best to get a shot at Chase Owens world Junior championship. AJ Styles looked like he’d be the man to beat but ended up getting taken out of the ring by Austin Aries leaving a prone Ziggler the victim of a Red Arrow allowing for Neville to get another shot at championship glory!
NWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH
Brock Lesnar vs. Kevin Steen(c)
This was a war between both men, Lesnar really wanted his championship back since he wasn’t the one who lost the match last night. Steen would hold his own wanting to keep the championship to provide the good life for his family. Things would go out the window when Samoa Joe hit the ring with a chair beating the holy hell out of Steen causing the ref to call for the bell throwing the match out! Samoe Joe would continue to assault the world champion. Joe would wrap the chair around the leg of Steen stomping away on the chair in vicious fashion! Security and medical staff would rush the ring checking on the champ but it looks like some very serious damage has been done tonight. The show ends with Joe standing over Steen who’s being swarmed with staff members checking on his well being.
Unlike the others, though, I kind of like that Neville won tonight. He could have some interesting promos heading into the match with this being his last chance.
