Reseda, CA
JT Dunn defeats Mike Bailey in a very spirited opener. The match didn't last but about 6 minutes, but these two packed a lot of action in that time. This was a match full of reversals and quick finish attempts, which saw the lightning fast feet of the "Speedball" go up against Dunn's "New Knockout Kid" power strikes, leading the fans to have no idea who was going to come out on top. The Canadian sparkplug Bailey looked like he might finish things off with a Shooting Star Double Knee from the middle turnbuckle, but Dunn managed to avoid it and catches him with a Kneeling Superkick, followed by a Sliding Elbow Strike, knocking Bailey unconscious for the three count. Dunn gets the win, but both men proved a lot to this Reseda crowd tonight.
Tommy End defeats Frankie Kazarian in strong fashion. The southern California veteran Kazarian would hit some big moves like the sling shot DDT and some nice kicks, but Tommy End was scary effective tonight. The Netherlands native would hit some massive knee strikes in this contest to rock Kazarian, along with various other strikes, before getting a near fall with a Deadlift German Suplex. Kazarian would try to recover from that, only to have a Shining Wizard right to the face, taking him down for the three. Tommy End looks like he may be a force to be reckoned with here in the near future in Ring of Fire.
Simon Gotch manages to overcome the fiery Chris Girard with a roll-up pinfall. Girard and Gotch would put on a great strong style influenced match here, with a lot of tough ground work and striking. Gotch would use his charisma to get the fans into this match, but the fighting spirit and explosiveness of Girard really endeared him to this crowd. Gotch would eventually have to resort to a Adominal Stretch-style roll-up pin to barely hold Girard down for the three.
Air Boom (Kofi Kingston & Matt Sydal) defeats The Usos (Jimmy Uso & Jey Uso) and Blake & Murphy w/ Alexa in a wild contest. This was a fast and competitive contest that went to about the 10 minute mark, which saw Kingston and Sydal really stand out as crowd favorites here. The match would come to an end as it looked like Jimmy Uso might pin Murphy with a Samoan Splash, only to have Sydal fly in and break it up with a Shooting Star Press. Jey Uso would superkick Sydal from the ring, but would catch the Trouble in Paradise from Kingston to knock him out and earn Kingston the pinfall before it could be broken up.
Becky Lynch defeats Carmella with the Dis-arm-her. These two had a pretty drawn out contest, as the cocky and mouthy Carmella tried to break the spirit of "Maiden Ireland" but came up short. Lynch is very talented and resourceful, and would manage to take down Carmella after she would become frustrated, pulling her into her deadly arm bar submission to get the victory. The fans here in Reseda really seem to like Lynch and her tenacity, and gave her a good ovation in the end.
The American Wolves (Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards) defeated Chad Gable & Jason Jordan in a match that really could have went either way. The experience factor was probably key here, as there certainly is no lack of talent on the part of Gable and Jordan. The Wolves would get all they could handle here, but toughness and a little bit of luck went a long way for the "Hunters" tonight. Gable and Jordan would execute the Grand Amplitude on Edwards, but Richards would come off the top with a Double Stomp to the bridging Gable to break up the pin attempt. Jordan would try to attack Richards after that, only to get caught with a Springboard Enzuigiri, followed by the Creeping Death, knocking Jordan out for the three count.
Sami Zayn defeats Jay Lethal in a highly entertaining back and forth contest. Lethal would show a lot of attitude in this match, and really set the pace for much of it, as Zayn showed heart and spirit to keep himself in the match and kick out of everything Lethal tried to throw at him. Lethal would pull out every trick he knew, but Zayn just wouldn't give up and it caused him to maybe make some hasty decisions. Lethal would attempt the Lethal Injection near, the end, but Zayn was a little too fresh and actually caught Lethal mid-move, turning it into a Half and Half Suplex that dropped Lethal right on his head! Lethal, in a daze, would try to charge Zayn near the corner, but ended up getting hit with the Exploder Suplex into the buckles! Zayn would rev himself up to the chants of "OLE!" from the crowd and deliver a devastating Helluva Kick to Lethal, knocking him completely unconscious long enough for the three count.
